which one is the best shopify theme in,2022,together with our good friends at,storetasker we wanted to find out,exactly that so over the last week we,interviewed various experts developers,agency owners from our network and from,storetasker's awesome freelancing,platform link in the description,and to our surprise we actually found,out way more than we expected so if you,listen to this you will not only,discover which one was the most upvoted,theme but you will also learn what makes,a theme great from a merchant's,perspective like what to pay attention,to when picking a good theme and you,will also learn what makes other,developers want to use your theme which,is a very interesting angle if you want,to build themes yourself and then,potentially sell them on the theme store,so here's what we discovered,all right patrick i'm super excited that,you're here today and yeah i actually,can't believe that we didn't do this,earlier um so would you like to,introduce yourself really quick,thank you jan for the invite um yeah my,name is patrick i'm the founder of the,agency eshop guide we are the fastest,growing agency in germany uh 2 million,in revenue 35 people,it's crazy people and we love shopify,and i'm happy to talk about the themes,that's awesome um okay maybe before we,get there would you also like to share,one or two sentences about the clients,that you typically work with this is,like smaller businesses larger,businesses yeah just,uh yes so we usually work with,existing businesses that,migrate to shopify,on woocommerce shopper or whatever,or with businesses who come,traditionally from a b2b space um and,who are dipping their toes into the d2c,world and just need their first job,rarely we work with real real startups,because that's usually,for them it doesn't make sense to work,with a with an established agency,because of the pricing,okay that's great and yeah as you know,today we wanted to talk about themes um,so you also do quite a few store setups,per month um so the question would be do,you guys have a favorite theme,yes um,so there are trends uh it's it's,actually quite quite funny uh from turbo,to prestige but now our favorite theme,is impulse um from archetype,um,the the story behind archetype is that,uh people who used to work for shopify,actually and um they really built the,themes,that you want them to build they they're,just awesome and they have good support,they've um they're,rather um fast in terms of performance,the themes they have a lot of um,features and they're usually,like right on top of the technological,curve what's possible with the themes,however at the moment because you you're,probably aware of that uh shopify 2.0,came out and with that um,shopify released a new standard theme,don,which really breaks records in terms of,performance and speed,and we don't see those numbers yet with,the um,paid themes,also not with imports,okay so yeah let me just wrap this up so,okay so you basically have,two favorite themes let's say impul

all right guys so in this video i'm,going to be showing you how you can go,ahead and,customize your debut theme within,shopify so debut theme,is the theme that all shopify stores,start out with,by default when you go ahead and start a,shopify store and if you haven't already,opened your shopify store yet you can,start your 14 day free trial by clicking,the first link in the description,so i figured i'd make this video because,debut theme,is one of the most commonly used themes,because it's the one that all stores,start out with and the view theme,actually looks,really good so right here we can see,that this is what debut theme looks like,when it's first installed with,absolutely nothing filled out,so we can see that we have where our,logo should be,we have a big header right here with,some text we have an image here,we have three images with text below,here we have,a uh empty collection and we have,another,um header type image right here another,wallpaper image,we have some testimonials and we have,three images down here,and then we have the footer so,right now we have a nice little template,but it's blank,so if you're looking to go ahead and,fill out,your um store using debut theme,the first thing you're going to want to,make sure you have is,a few key things so i'm going to bring,up a notepad and just make sure,because before you go ahead and start,the design process you're going to need,a couple things so the first one is,going to be a logo,so i assume you already have a logo at,this point if you're ready to start your,store design but if not,then make sure you get a logo first,because everything else is going to be,based around the logo,and then we're going to have a color,scheme selected,and normally this color scheme is going,to,be derived from colors from your logo,and typically,you're going to use one to two colors,to base your entire store around and,like i said these colors will be derived,from the logo and the next thing we're,going to need,is a couple wallpaper photos,so we can see we're going to need some,photos to go ahead and put back here in,this header,we need some photos to put back here and,this header as well,so if you have any large photos related,to your business,go ahead and upload them to your,computer or,put them all in one folder so we can go,ahead and,use them as backgrounds here and if you,don't you can use,different sites such as pixabay,to find free stock images that you can,go ahead and use,so let's just type in something like,fishing,so if you had a store related to fishing,you could go ahead and just,look for different stock photos here,or maybe you have something related to,yoga,or fitness you can type in a lot,of different niches depending on what,your store is based around,and you can use some of these wallpapers,to go ahead and put back here,now obviously i do think it's better if,you have your own,custom photos but uh you know not,everyone's gonna have that starting out,so if you don't you can go ahead and us

Shopify CLI for Theme Development (How to use)

hey everyone in this video we're going,to talk about shopify cli for themes,shopify cli stands for shopify command,line interface and is the latest,alternative to shopify theme kit,previously shopify cli was a tool that,helped users create and deploy shopify,apps but since the online store 2.0,announcements in june 2021 shopify have,extended the shopify cli to provide new,functions for theme development,including the ability to serve themes,locally,so in this video let's talk about how,the shopify cli works and how to include,it into your theme development workflow,before we get started talking about how,to use the shopify cli for theme,development i want to provide some,context here and talk about where this,tool fits in compared to the other,previous tools for developing shopify,themes,when i first started shopify theme,development back in 2019 there were two,tools available slate and theme kit,i believe it was theme kit that came,first but at shopify unite 2017 shopify,announced something called slate a new,build tool for shopify themes intended,to provide a more developer friendly,scaffold for building themes,slate did have some good points such as,the ability to split up scss into,multiple modular files and update css,changes locally but over time shopify,decided not to maintain the project and,eventually announced that they were,officially ending support for slate in,january 2020. therefore slate is not a,tool i recommend to anyone anymore in my,opinion the only reason to use slate is,if you have to i.e you have an existing,slate project that you're unable to or,unwilling to migrate that left us with,themekit a simple tool for uploading and,downloading theme files from your,shopify store making it possible to work,on themes locally,and now the latest option which is to,use the shopify cli for theme,development,chances are if you're watching this,video close to the release date you,might be using shopify themekit as,mentioned shopify themekit is a simple,tool for uploading and downloading theme,code from themes already hosted on your,shopify store we can do a one-time,download from themekit or a one-time,upload from themekit or we can run the,command theme watch and allow themekit,to detect and upload changes to the,theme as it exists on the shopify store,as soon as they happen for a full,tutorial on shopify themekit check out,the lesson in my skillshare class,shopify theme development how to build,and customize your own online store the,shopify cli by comparison is a bit,different with shopify cli you first,connect the tool to your online store by,running shopify login and from that,point you can begin to serve the theme,code you have on your computer locally,running shopify theme serve the cli will,take your theme code and generate a,development theme this development theme,will come with a theme id and a theme,editor but it won't exist in your,shopify store's theme library and it,will disappear after you run shopify,logout,running these s

How To Build A Theme From Scratch

hey everyone jan here codingwithyan.com,building themes in 2022 and beyond a,brand hot topic especially since the,theme store reopened for new submissions,and we've already been covering quite a,bit throughout the last few interviews,with liam we've been talking about how,to come up with a concept how to compete,with existing themes,earning potentials the theme store,requirements how to pass the review,process and so on and so forth so if you,haven't seen these episodes yet i highly,recommend you check them out because,there's like so much good information in,there,but i also know you guys,you don't want to be sitting here all,day long and just brainstorm you want to,go out there and build things right so,that's exactly what we're going to be,talking about today we will ask liam,about the specific tools we need and how,to practically get started that will,make the whole series a lot more,complete,so then let's have a look alright liam,it's great to have you back one more,time um so how are you doing today,i'm great jan thanks for having me here,today always a honor and a pleasure to,be chatting with you and your audience,uh we've actually been working,internally on a lot of,interesting tools and resources so i'm,sure,team developers will be very excited to,see what we are releasing in the next,few months but uh otherwise,uh doing good i've been using actually a,lot of the tools that we'll be talking,in this video today so i have some,first-hand experience and insights to,share,and uh yeah just excited and happy to be,talking about building themes with you,today,awesome that sounds great um yeah so,then let's just cut the chase liam what,tools do i need to get started with,building themes from scratch,sure so the main tools that you will,want when you're setting up a,development environment that is suitable,for building themes as opposed to,customizing themes,would include,firstly a,development store that is associated,with your partner account,these are free to create and they act as,really great sandboxes that you can use,for,sending information to a store or,also downloading theme information or,store data from,and uh again totally free to create so,do uh feel free to create those uh,secondly uh you will need to be working,with a text editor on your local,computer so a program like vs code or,sublime,will let you edit the theme files so you,can edit the,liquid files javascript files css files,json files you'll be able to edit all of,those on your local computer with a text,editor of your choice,thirdly,you will likely want to work with the,shopify cli which allows you to transfer,information to and from your linked,development store,as well as generate a,what we call a development theme which,runs locally on your computer,and we'll be talking a little bit more,about that in this video,and uh fourthly and finally you will,likely want to work with the shopify,github integration which essentially,allows you to create,a version control,management s

Top 5 Shopify Themes for Clothing Stores

what's up christian here and today i'm,going to share with you the top five,themes to use,if you are a clothing store and i'm,going to show you at the end of this,video how to get the theme,use it customize it for free before even,purchasing anything,let's get started,all right so always as always just want,to preface these uh,theme suggestions these are just our,opinions and some of the things that,we've used within shopify,and again we try to stick with themes,that shopify provides,in their store they usually tend to have,the best support,and the best organization and structure,um,we try to stay away from the,themeforest.com which is i mean it could,be nothing wrong with them,but we just haven't had the best,experience with those type of things so,starting at number one,is warehouse now warehouse is designed,to be,uh for large catalogs of products so if,your store or clothing store that has a,lot of different products,maybe you have shirts dresses pants hats,jewelry a little bit of everything then,warehouse is going to be really good for,you so i'm going to jump in here and,kind of show you,how the back end or not back in just an,example,right of a preview of the of one of the,theme styles for warehouse,so this one has um again a lot,an emphasis right on the large catalog,so as you can see,one of the main things here is a search,bar right where you can actually,uh highlight different categories and,search within those categories so,um besides the search and the nice,navigation,and then log in the account the card,over here then,on this home page we also have a good,breakdown of different categories right,so these different categories again,could be from beanies and accessories,to running and shoes to actually phone,cases,so a large wide variety of products i,love that,i really really like on this one in,particular um,what they call the uh the different,color,options for the for the products so it,shows you right there,from within the the product collection,where this shoe in particular,could be different products different,colors i'm sorry not different different,colors,it shows you the reviews and actually,has the option to show you,how many units are in stock so again,talking about a large inventory,of products it might be good to showcase,you know how many you have,in stock i also like the option that you,know it shows you add to cart if it's,just one,one variant or if it has different,colors maybe different sizes and things,like that,then the button changes to say choose,options so when you click on choose,options,it actually takes you to the product,page,where you have just more information,about the product,i love this zoom feature you can see,this on,amazon so again this theme reminds me,very much so of of amazon and again a,large inventory theme,then this one also has integrated,customer reviews so you don't have to,add any additional app,to get customer reviews on the theme,nice some of the other things that i'm,going to talk to you ab

Shopify 2.0 Coding Tutorial: Building on Dawn Theme [Part 1: The Setup]

today as you can see from the title we,are doing a shopify 2.0 store coding,tutorial where we are where in,we are going to build on the dawn theme,which comes,as a starter theme with shopify in this,new version of 2.0 and in this part this,part one of the series we are going to,work on the setup and i'm going to,introduce you to shopify and the store,so,not a pre-warning but before we get,started while this course will delve,into,themes and customizing them and what,that means this is also a coding heavy,course so as you can see,let's look at this we are going to be,looking through,the dawn,theme code so this is the theme liquid,and we can see,these are,uh templates that's not i'm trying to,give an example of how like complicated,it can get um there are so many,different css files to kind of mull,through,we have all of these snippets,uh we're not really going to delve into,snippets so much,what we're going to really look at are,templates,sections and let's look at a section,yeah so again this is can be complex,we're kind of just gonna,go on the surface of this this is also,i'm kind of dipping my toes in and i,kind of want to show what i learned and,have us kind of learn together and so,that's the purpose of this tutorial,series and i'm actually i'm going to,keep explaining the purpose so this is,how the dawn store starts,right and i can go back to my dashboard,again i'm going i'm going kind of fast,but i'm going to go through this with,much more depth so if i go here to dawn,and click customize i just want to show,you what a theme,is all about and how we can customize it,in this store 2.0,i never actually used shopify before 2.0,so i'm not sure of all of the changes,but i do know a new change is kind of,just like how easy it is,not the making of the template but once,you have a template in place how easy it,kind of should be to just add in,like the top image banner i can just,select an image let's see let's add that,in,and boom and then i can talk about my,brand here,and we can go back from image banner,and i can write,hey there,you know and i can save all of this,and it's just there's a lot of uh,ability to,uh customize i can even add more,sections so i could have another image,banner at the bottom,yeah and then i could even in this image,banner maybe i don't want this overlay i,don't want the buttons there,yeah so i can just have the image,okay so we are going to go from this,dawn theme once again so kind of uh,the base the basic,theme that just comes pre-installed,in shopify so you're going to take this,theme and we're going to elevate it so,here as you can see i have a similar,very similar structure but i'm using a,different typography,i think i yeah the colors again you can,change within the theme,but there are other ways within the css,maybe we want to customize some of the,colors,i also added it so there is a video,section but i made sure the video,the youtube video could be auto played,as soon as you click i don't want to,blast the youtub

HOW TO: Increase Your Shopify Page Speed

what's going on guys this is jacoby also,known as the coolest nerd ever today,we're back with another video today's,video we're going to be covering,page speed when we talk about page speed,because shopify recently came out with,an,update to their interface showing how,fast your website is running,we've had some customers reach out with,concerns on if their website is running,fast or slow so i'm going to show you,what shopify came up with,and actually show you real-time page,speed and i'm also going to show you,some other competitors some heavy,hitters,in your industry and probably in a,different industry who also may suffer,from some,page speed problems so we're going to go,over that video we're going to dive,right into it let's go,all right so first thing first we're,going to cover um,one of our clients website this is the,client that we have,her brand is called the main mafia a,really successful,beauty brand and if you notice right,here,shopify recently came out with a new,update,that's made some customers you know,scratch their heads a little bit,and it says online store speed it says,the score shows how fast your store is,loading for visitors,store speed is affected by installing,apps editing theme code and the size of,images and videos,learn more right so if you're a customer,this is your first website or even if,your 10th website,if you've seen the page speed that,looked a little little less than average,you,have every right to be a little bit,concerned but i just want to talk to you,guys about what real,page speed and relevant page speed to,your actual business model,so hitting this button view report you,can go through the ins and outs of,trying to do this but i'm just going to,advise you,not to even go through those additional,steps uh it doesn't really bring any,value to your life you're just going to,be kind of diving in a rabbit hole,of trying to understand what this even,means,so page speed shopify is equating,the page speed of you having little to,no content,of a freshly installed vanilla theme a,theme that really doesn't have much,content in it,if you're a brand and you're selling,something like beauty products if you're,selling something like hair,then you're going to need content so the,average paid speed that you're going to,see which is still considered a good,page speed is about 28,to 50 that's about the average page,speed once you have,content in your website now that doesn't,affect the,real time low speed of what your,customers are experiencing,the only way to really judge real-time,page speed is,in interacting with the website yourself,so,even though this says 48 i'm going to,show you guys,real time real live page b of me loading,the website if i'm a customer coming to,the website,so i want you to be realistic and not,get caught up on this number,and thinking this is the reason why,you're not making sales right,we're not going to use this as a,scapegoat for a reason on,you know why a customer didn't check out,or why deal,o
