hey everyone young here,codingwithyan.com,if you ever wanted to build your own,theme for the official theme store then,would you be interested in hearing some,advice directly from the CEO of the most,successful theme company out there,well good for you because that's exactly,what we are doing today we will be,speaking to Thomas Kelly the CEO of,archetype themes a multiple eight figure,brand and I'm super stoked he blocked,some time for us so let's dive in and,hear what he had to say Alright good,morning Thomas Thanks so much for being,here and yeah as you know today we want,to talk a bit about themes in general,how to build them what comes comes,alongside with them and since the,audience maybe doesn't know you yet,would you just like to quickly introduce,yourself,yeah good morning on thanks for having,me,um yeah my name's Thomas I am CEO of,archetype themes as Jan has mentioned uh,I have been,building and growing archetype themes,for the past year after having acquired,it uh from two of my previous teammates,that I worked with at Shopify uh before,so before archetype themes I was working,at Shopify on the theme and online store,platform for six years so in different,in different capacities I was building,themes I was working on developer,tooling I was working on online store,performance making all themes and online,stores faster working with the developer,Community as a developer Advocate uh so,I have I'm just over one year into this,journey of now looking at themes from,building a business angle how do you,build and scale a successful theme,business,okay I couldn't imagine a better sparing,partner for this interview,um so I have I have different topics in,mind and just looking at my notes here,really quick um I would like to touch on,requirements a bit,um coming up with a concept for theme,the development process marketing and,ongoing support and I'm pretty sure,you're very not knowledgeable in all,these topics because you work at Shopify,you also see the business side of things,running a theme company now so how about,we just get started with the,requirements,um what qualifications are needed in,order to build a theme like who should,even consider doing that,so I think the the magic recipe that,I've seen uh it's kind of time and time,again,uh I have seen success with as little as,two people uh starting a theme company,starting their own theme and that is,typically a designer and a developer uh,it's rare that those skills overlap uh,in full capacity uh it's possible you,could be a really good designer and a,developer but it's also a lot to take on,just yourself uh that building a theme,is a big project there's a lot of,upfront investment involved it would,it's it's nice to have at least somebody,else to work with I think maybe is a,place to start,um and then in terms of skills required,uh,from the design side you know Kenai for,for what's appealing understanding of,users that you want to Target maybe we,can get into that separately,um because I

hey guys in this video we're going to be,talking about should you become a,Shopify developer in 2023 is it a viable,career path for you right and who should,actually become a Shopify developer so,we're going to cover a lot of things in,here in this video all right so again,what is Shopify right so Shopify is a,Content management system right,um it's a platform where you can sell,products right you can have discounts,you can have uh secure uh user data,right you can basically have a secure,payment Gateway you also have access to,a whole bunch of different applications,so don't matter what type of business,you might have you might have something,like a I don't know a digital product or,maybe you're selling uh products online,maybe Drop Shipping right so again it,doesn't matter what type of business you,have you can use Shopify to sell your,products through uh their platform okay,now again,a lot of people use this every time that,you see like an advertisement on YouTube,Instagram Tick Tock you're gonna see uh,basically products are being promoted,through advertisement I could tell you,right now probably 95 99 of those stores,are built with Shopify okay so again,it's a platform that everybody uses now,again for you as a developer why should,you care about Shopify the fact that,there's so many people using uh Shopify,it basically allows you to say hey you,know what there's going to be a high,demand for this skill now becoming a,Shopify developer has two different,career paths that you could go on you,could say I'm gonna become a Shopify,theme developer or I can become a,Shopify app developer a Shopify app,developer is more on the back end right,basically being a full stack developer,to create applications within the,ecosystem of Shopify and a Shopify theme,developer is pretty much a front-end,developer that knows how to to create,websites create themes and connect them,through shopify's you know liquid,or using their apis right so pretty much,it's just if you ever use WordPress or,something like that it's like the,WordPress of e-commerce okay so again a,lot of people use Shopify so there's a,huge demand for it,now one thing that you're gonna see,right now,um as far as like the sales right you,could take a look at how this Black,Friday has been crazy uh for Shopify uh,I believe they had what like three,billion or something like that I can't,remember the exact number I'll tell you,right now I believe it's like 3.36,billion dollars in sales in Black Friday,just on Black Friday alone okay we're,not talking about the whole year right,so again this is huge a lot of people,have been switching to Shopify from all,other uh different type of platforms you,know you might have heard of maybe,Magento maybe big Commerce,um there's a whole bunch of other ones,that's out there even Wix Etc but again,when it comes to e-commerce Shopify is,the number one platform now,um I'm gonna talk to you guys about,becoming a Shopify theme developer and,like who should care about t

hey everybody this is zory from astroweb,and i'm making this shopify video for,shopify store owners and this video is,going to talk about how to interact with,your developer what do you need to know,what are the most basic things you need,to know,of how they develop and how you,communicate with them and how you,actually deploy,new code so what does that mean deploy a,new code,you ask for a certain feature for,example on my development site,i just want to change all my colors to,blue for example,so what you do is you write out the,requirements and you tell them i want,things to be blue i want this to be blue,i want this to be this blue i want you,know etc,whatever the requirement is so what you,do is you give it to them,and then you typically just wait for,them to finish it but there's a really,important part that you need to,understand or you should understand of,how they should develop,and what you should do in order to keep,your website stable and well and not,have conflicts between the two so this,is a topic of this video okay,so what do you need to know it's really,really simple,when you go to the back end all of the,code changes,are in your theme right so if you click,here on themes right here you can see,your live theme and you can see all,these other themes typically you should,have a lot of them okay,and so what's going to happen is you're,going to give the requirement to the,developer and they're going to take that,theme and they're going to duplicate,that theme right,so they're going to go here for example,express1 they're,going to click on actions duplicate and,what they're going to do,when they duplicate it is it's going to,be loading here and i'm going to rename,this okay so,let's say i'm going to call it okay,express,and then copy of express and then i'm,going to put maybe the,date for example and i'm going to put,blue,color change change okay so,right here and so what you're going to,do you're going to name every single,theme with the,actual development thing that the,feature the development requirement,that's there so you can easily go,back and forth you can easily see what,was done in every single step,why do you need to do that a few things,number one,is you don't want the developer working,on the live site because if they make,mistakes,or they're you haven't tested yet or,while they're developing and making,things,actual visitors are going to see it,because it's the live site so,rule number one is you never want,developer to work on the live uh theme,okay that's number one that's why you,have duplicates okay,number two is when they work on it uh,you're gonna do a few things so number,one you duplicate either your developer,is gonna duplicate the theme and you're,gonna tell them,only work on this do not work on the,live one,okay so that's number one number two,while they're working on it you do not,want to,customize the theme because if you,customize the theme right here,for example change the logos and things,like that then whe

hey guys it's your boy joe back out of,the game codingphase.com today we have,something special for you guys we are,going to be doing the shopify developer,roadmap okay so stay tuned if you're,planning on learning shopify development,for 2022,this is gonna cover everything let's get,started,all right guys so we're gonna basically,split this up into two sections one is,gonna be for the front end and another,one's gonna be full stack okay meaning,that you know the front end and also,know the back end so let's get started,we've got shopify developer roadmap,front end again we're going to start,with the front end the easiest thing,shopify theme developer this is the road,that you can go on you need to know html,css and what we used to call psd to html,pretty much is like if we give you a,design you need to be able to build it,exactly how it looks on the design okay,pretty simple javascript jquery and this,is for legacy themes that might be out,there so if you get hired at a company,and you need to work with jquery guess,what you got to work with jquery okay it,is what it is from there you have to go,in and learn about uh javascript,framework it could be react or view one,thing that i've been noticing a lot is,that a lot of companies are deciding to,go with you because view is easier to,work with as far as like you know you,don't even have to go in and use webpack,or anything you could just pretty much,use like a cdn just like jquery so,people are used to that so they like it,okay order backing guys this is why they,enjoy vjs they don't have to go to the,webpack in the whole build okay the next,thing that you have is shopify platform,you need to understand how the shopify,platform works to be able to be a good,shopify theme developer okay uh you need,to know how to work with the shopify,apis you know you got the storefront api,you have a whole bunch of other ones,that that's in there you need to be,comfortable with that because that's how,you're going to be able to communicate,with shopify when you're creating your,themes and it's going to be all done,through ajax you know axios requests etc,okay you also have liquid which is the,templating language for uh shopify,themes so you need to learn how to work,with a templated language and,specifically with liquid okay you also,need to know how to use graphql and just,enough for you to query the data so when,you're doing requests to shopify and say,okay,what are the top selling products and,you want to get that data back you need,to know how to actually query that with,graphql okay um you can be getting up to,eighty thousand dollars just starting to,become a shopify team developer and also,to up to a hundred sixty thousand,dollars,you know as you become,more knowledgeable and you have more,experience now of course you can also,make way more money if you are your own,uh developer like in the sense of like,you're creating your own digital,products and you're selling them,yourself okay because now you're not,ju

arrêtez d'acheter des thèmes shopi,faille du moins avant d'avoir vu cette,vidéo et ouais on veut tous augmenter,notre taux de conversion notre panier,moyen optimiser notre ratio ou exprimer,notre créativité sur notre site on veut,tous réduire nos frais en application et,augmenter nos profits de manière,générale et évidemment l'acquisition,d'un thème shopi faille peut t'aider,dans chacun de ces points c'est une,certitude le problème c'est que dans la,plupart des cartes tutti prend trop tôt,et encore moins de la bonne manière moi,c'est thomas et je dirige une agence de,six héros dans laquelle on teste des,dizaines de composants par semaine sur,les plus grosses boutiques en ligne du,marché et oui j'ai aussi créé un thème,shopi failli tourner depuis deux ans il,contient plus de 650 membres j'avoue ça,fait plus de six mois qu'on a pas mis à,jour et pour couronner le tout dans,cette vidéo je vais mettre à dos la,moitié des membres qui ont acheté ce,thème mais croyez-moi c'est pour votre,bien allez c'est parti revenons à la,toux de base et même aux fondations,pourquoi une boutique en ligne génèrent,des revenus est ce que c'est parce,qu'elle a un bundle un conteur ou d'être,ce badge,la réponse est non c'est parce qu'elle,propose le bon produit à la bonne,personne et soit dit en passant de la,bonne manière en effet sur le papier,c'est un principe qui est assez simple,et si la personne qui est en face de toi,peux absolument ton produit peu importe,l'expérience que tu vas lui fournir elle,trouvera un moyen de se le procurer ce,qui veut pas dire que tu ne dois pas te,concentrer sur la création d'une bonne,expérience d'achat ça veut juste dire tu,dois avant tout concentré sur ton,produit la manière dont tu annonces ses,bienfaits et évidemment la personne qui,le verra avant tout c'est pour cette,raison que toutes ces boutiques qui,utilisent des thèmes gratuits des thèmes,début des thèmes brooklyn des thèmes,dans tous les autres nouveaux thèmes,gratuits créé sur shopi faille génère,chaque année des centaines de milliers,d'euros parce que les thèmes gratuits,sont par défaut simple et t'oblige à te,concentrer sur les étapes les plus,importantes de ton business,particulièrement au début de concentrer,sur des fondations à savoir ta,proposition de valeur des visuels des,bénéfices et on offre c'est ça que tu,vends pas une garantie satisfait ou,remboursé ou une réduction de 60%,totalement injustifiée et j'en passe,pour le bonheur des vendeurs de thèmes,et j'en faisais partie on avait juste à,dire ultra personnalisables ou alors,augmenter votre taux de conversion et,hop ça se vendait tout ce pour la simple,et bonne raison qu'on venait juste,confirmer la manière dont tout le monde,avait été éduqué à ce propos vous a,vendu d'acheter des thèmes chauds qui,file dans la plupart des cas pas pour,l'heure bien fait parce que tout le,monde était affilié à tout le monde et,vu des centaines de fois parmi mes,clients en offrant des milliers,d'options de personnalisation de section

what's up YouTube today I've got a,different kind of video for you guys,today I'm gonna take you through a day,in the life of a Shopify theme developer,you may have seen some of my kind of,day-in-the-life videos on my other,YouTube channel Chris the freelancer but,while you can watch me work from,beautiful locations and tap on the,keyboard move the mouse around the real,magic is happening inside the computer,and so I think for you guys interested,in web development you'll appreciate,what I actually do on a day-to-day basis,currently working as a Shopify theme,developer working for an agency so in,this video that's exactly what we're,going to do I'm gonna hop onto the,computer and I'm gonna show you a day in,the life of a Shopify theme developer,all right so before we get started a few,things to note obviously depending on,when you're watching this things might,have changed right now my situation is,I'm currently working with a single,agency client so the agency has their,own clients and then I just contract for,the agency so I'm working with one,agency and one of the projects that that,agency is running at the moment a,website project is something that I've,been basically spearheading and doing,most of the work on so you'll see that,when we log in today you'll see that the,most of my work is being done on this,one website project just note however,that I will be blurring out a lot of,things in today's video because I want,to respect my client and their clients,privacy so I won't be giving away any,identifying information but hopefully,you can still see all that you need to,see in terms of the workflow and the,actual steps I take on a day to day,basis so without further ado let's jump,into the computer let's check the emails,and see what has come through over the,weekend so as I mentioned I'm working,with an agency client and this agency,uses the project management tool asana,so the workflow working for this agency,is I get assigned tasks I complete those,tasks or ask for more clarification in,order to complete the tasks and then I,put the preview link back into the,comments of the tasks for the client to,review if they're happy they can mark,complete if they need some changes they,can ask for them in the comments and,then I can do them and comment back so,using asana it's basically just tasks,with comments and back and forth until,the task is complete so each day I'm,starting with the communication within,asana but I'm also starting with,communication via email because my,client does send me emails for perhaps,things that aren't in a particular task,so I'm going to click over to my work,email inbox here and as you can see,I've got a mixture of notifications from,asana mixed in with emails directly from,the client so that way I have all my,client communication in the one place in,my inbox I'm sure I could look at,notifications for asana with in asana,but I prefer it this way,seeing my notifications for asana as,well as my email replies here you ca
