in june of this year shopify announced a,suite of changes to the online store,experience that they called online store,2.0 as i addressed in my online store,2.0 what you need to know video this,wasn't a fundamental change to the whole,shopify platform it was just a bunch of,updates mixed together into a single,release,i've done my best to cover each of these,updates within its own video but what,i'm finding is that this idea of online,store 2.0 is still confusing some,viewers and i think i may have found the,culprit the new dawn theme from shopify,has been touted as the standard for,online store 2.0 themes and if you look,at the code it's coded very differently,to the previous debut theme that's why,in this video we're going to break down,the new dawn theme and in the process,break down some misconceptions around,online store 2.0,before we dive into looking at the dawn,theme code i wanted to clear up a few,misconceptions you guys have shown me in,the comments of my youtube and,skillshare videos the most common,misconception is that online store 2.0,and i guess you could say online store,1.0 are some sort of mutually exclusive,systems but this is not the case in my,video on json templates we saw that we,could update any theme even a theme,created long before online store 2.0 to,use json templates therefore giving it,some of the features of online store 2.0,then came the question if we're using,json templates instead of liquid doesn't,that mean that liquid is no more again,this is incorrect just because we're now,using json for templates doesn't mean,that liquid code is gone rather that,code has just been moved into sections,that's it finally and this is what i'll,demonstrate in this video dawn and,online store 2.0 are not the same thing,what i'm finding is that some of you are,referring to the way things are done in,dawn as online store 2.0 yes the dawn,theme takes advantage of the features of,online store 2.0 and as i mentioned,online store 2.0 represents a suite of,changes and new features to the online,store experience but it doesn't mean,that the way that dawn has been built by,shopify has to dictate how you create,your themes moving forward with that,being said let's actually take a look at,the structural differences that shopify,have implemented in the new dawn theme,and break down what is or isn't,considered online store 2.0,all right so if we go into the dawn,theme i've got it right here as my live,theme on chris testing shop if we go in,here and inspect the code,the biggest difference you could say is,json templates,now of course json templates are an,online store 2.0 change and i'm pretty,sure whenever shopify are referring to,online store 2.0 themes they are mainly,talking about the use of these json,templates so as we have seen in the,previous versions of shopify,these were typically,404.liquid article.liquid blog.liquid,instead of 404.json,article.jsonblog.json,so on and so forth now because we've got,json stored in these templates i

customize and transform your store in only about ,10 to 15 minutes from scratch so without wasting
time let's jump straight onto my laptop here and ,i'll show you step by step how to build a
beautifully custom shopify store with this ,no code page builder app incredibly important

do is go on to the shopify app store actual ,first step is to get shopify if you haven't yet

store and then this is where we're going to get a ,crucial tool and this app is going to allow us

myself and the team have used to design custom ,shopify sales pages and the plan of attack today
is to create a custom one product store simply by ,using the gem pages drag and drop tools right
here i've spent some time before this video ,creating the brand and all the assets like product
renders brand name and whatnot i'm calling it to ,charge because we all need to charge our devices
that's terrible i know i have all the assets to ,go in my folder right here as you can see and so
what we're going to do now is build out our page ,with gem pages using all the files that i've
created here so head on to the dashboard and then ,click create new from here is click more types and
you can see that you're able to create a bunch of ,different pages based on what you want to go for
so a landing page a home page a product page etc ,and so let's just click for example home page so
there's a whole bunch of home page templates here ,there's also a whole bunch of landing pages the
theory here is i'm going to build a one product ,store so i'm going to use a landing page
only and i found the one that i want to use ,and it's bluetooth headphones you can click
preview to preview the template first or ,you can just click start editing so i'm going
to click start editing i'm going to give the ,the page name a name and then click header and
footer i want this off only because we're creating ,a one product store and we don't want a header and
footer at the bottom really quickly though you can ,use a completely blank canvas but if you want to

all right guys so in this video i'm,going to be showing you how you can go,ahead and,customize your debut theme within,shopify so debut theme,is the theme that all shopify stores,start out with,by default when you go ahead and start a,shopify store and if you haven't already,opened your shopify store yet you can,start your 14 day free trial by clicking,the first link in the description,so i figured i'd make this video because,debut theme,is one of the most commonly used themes,because it's the one that all stores,start out with and the view theme,actually looks,really good so right here we can see,that this is what debut theme looks like,when it's first installed with,absolutely nothing filled out,so we can see that we have where our,logo should be,we have a big header right here with,some text we have an image here,we have three images with text below,here we have,a uh empty collection and we have,another,um header type image right here another,wallpaper image,we have some testimonials and we have,three images down here,and then we have the footer so,right now we have a nice little template,but it's blank,so if you're looking to go ahead and,fill out,your um store using debut theme,the first thing you're going to want to,make sure you have is,a few key things so i'm going to bring,up a notepad and just make sure,because before you go ahead and start,the design process you're going to need,a couple things so the first one is,going to be a logo,so i assume you already have a logo at,this point if you're ready to start your,store design but if not,then make sure you get a logo first,because everything else is going to be,based around the logo,and then we're going to have a color,scheme selected,and normally this color scheme is going,to,be derived from colors from your logo,and typically,you're going to use one to two colors,to base your entire store around and,like i said these colors will be derived,from the logo and the next thing we're,going to need,is a couple wallpaper photos,so we can see we're going to need some,photos to go ahead and put back here in,this header,we need some photos to put back here and,this header as well,so if you have any large photos related,to your business,go ahead and upload them to your,computer or,put them all in one folder so we can go,ahead and,use them as backgrounds here and if you,don't you can use,different sites such as pixabay,to find free stock images that you can,go ahead and use,so let's just type in something like,fishing,so if you had a store related to fishing,you could go ahead and just,look for different stock photos here,or maybe you have something related to,yoga,or fitness you can type in a lot,of different niches depending on what,your store is based around,and you can use some of these wallpapers,to go ahead and put back here,now obviously i do think it's better if,you have your own,custom photos but uh you know not,everyone's gonna have that starting out,so if you don't you can go ahead and us

All everyone Christian here.,And today,,I want to share with you,the latest themes to use.,If you are a clothing store,and you want to actually,stand out,,also stick around,to the end,for my personal,favorite theme right now,,So after the OWS 2.0 release,,there have been,a lot of new themes showing up,or popping up on the Shopify,theme store.,And the theme developers,are getting better,and better,when it comes,to making them more distinct,and just adding subtle features,and things to make them,look really good,and different from each other.,Because before I would say,,like a lot of these themes,have some,some of the same elements,and some of the same things,,but I feel like now,we're starting to,see a little bit more,wide gamut,of different themes out there,,and that's what we want,to talk about today.,Some of the top five,right now that we're loving,and you should check out,if you are a clothing store,or not a clothing store.,Really,,you want to check out,some really cool,themes right now.,So the first thing that we have,is Stockholm,by code supply code.,A couple of highlights here.,It's a very clean, minimalist,,has some subtle animations,and some unique sections.,Now, I do want to show you,this real quick.,So I'm going to click,on The View Demo Store.,By the way, it's $280,and then a lot of these themes,,like I've mentioned in the past,,they have different theme styles,and all the styles they're for,really is,just to kind of show you,a different look,and feel,of the site of the theme,before you actually,install it on on your store.,But a couple of things here.,These are the,,the unique sections,that I was talking about,the section right here,which just categorizes,your collection,so that Top's sales,,new arrivals and bags,and this kind of,store animations,and it just looks really cool,and nice,really cool,to just kind of navigate,through a section like this.,And they're using it.,And this particular style,on the very top,as is kind of like the hero,probably wouldn't recommend,something like this,for the hero.,But if you want to use a section,further down on your,on your home page,,I would definitely do,something like that.,This is another,sort of animation,that I was talking about,,just like this talk on,just rotating here,on this corner.,It just it just adds,an extra flair, right, to the,to the actual store.,And like I said,,when you hover over certain,things like the products,,you get this subtle,animation with the name,and then a little zoom,right there.,So just subtle things that,make this,theme just really pop for me.,And look at this.,Like when you hover over,the categories, bags, hat tops,,you actually get a picture,in the background,that moves with your cursor.,I've seen that being done,in other websites.,I've never seen it,done here on Shopify.,So that's actually really,,really cool.,We have a review section,popular and look at this,also subtle animation.,When I'm scrolling,,you get some sort,of parallax effect,with the images,that ar
