Shopify Theme Review: Focal by Maestrooo [2022]

hey it's klaus here i haven't done a,theme review for shopify for a while and,as there are more and more,os 2.0 online shopping 2.0,themes are coming out i thought i will,do one for you this time so let's dive,right into it,so the theme that i'm looking at this,time is the focal theme by maestro some,of you might know that the warehouse,theme of maestro is one of my favorite,themes in the shopify universe,and so i thought this new theme that,they brought out,might be a good catch to see what they,have done so let's dive in here into the,demo store first and then we go into the,back end,the demo store itself you see here's,coming in three different styles if i'm,not completely wrong it's actually it's,four different styles so basically you,can choose from different color schemes,on the demo or on the theme itself,you see it has a pop-up integrated here,directly not the best way to work with,pop-ups here obviously but depending on,how you integrate your theme you might,get rid of this anyway and might,integrate a pop-up coming from for,instance clavio or any other kind of app,now let's be on the homepage here and,see what we have here so obviously we,have a hello bar notification bar right,up here interesting here they have a,slider in there see this one is actually,quite nicely done saves a lot of space,you can put in some more information,than just one line i think that's that's,very easily done so if you have um for,instance one more than one promotion,there or you want to mix it up with free,shipping notifications something like,that you can do this here so i like that,a lot,i like that the header is very narrow,one thing that i always recommend when i,do store reviews um website audits is,having a very narrow header so you want,to bring the main content high into the,browser window above the fold so that,people do not need to scroll down to see,the main content so that's nicely done,then we have here the navigation in this,color scheme actually quite nice high,contrast white text on black background,so easy to read easy on the eyes so,that's also very well done,simply also,enough space here to put enough menu,items in here my screen resolution is,1920 1080 so you see that might even,work with smaller ones,it seems so that they have a currency,converter in um included already that's,nice,here i have contact field something i,would not recommend but that seemingly,is an option in in their um in their,theme,er search icon um again not best,practice so they have it here that's,something i would change there and,obviously the,annoying login account creation thingy,and then we have the back or the card,here and also with a contrasting color,so that's nicely done so overall i like,the header you have all the main,information in here a couple of things,that i would add would for instance like,a support email address right here and,other things but overall the header,quite easy,now then we have here our slideshow our,hero image usually i do not recomme

New FREE Shopify Themes! Should You Switch To Online Store 2.0?

following up the release of online store,2.0 shopify has just come out with a,suite of brand new free themes for your,shopify store today we're going to break,down all the new cool stuff that's,coming up,what's going on everybody and welcome,back to the channel if you're brand new,here and we've never met before hey,what's up my name's carrie i'm the,founder of shirt school and i created,this channel to bring you the best,strategy secrets and hacks to grow your,online t-shirt apparel or e-commerce,business i want to jump right into it,today because i'm really excited that,shopify has just released four brand new,free themes for your shopify store,sense crave dawn and craft,last year in the middle of 2021 shopify,released a brand new upgrade to their,entire system called online store 2.0,now if you have no idea what i'm talking,about basically what they did is,upgraded their entire dashboard inside,your shopify account they added a ton of,new features they completely redid,the store editor the actual like website,builder where there's tons of new,features it's laid out a little bit,differently there's a lot more,customization that you can do and along,with that they released one new theme,called dawn we just mentioned it now,they've come out with not only more free,themes the four that we're going to talk,about today but also a lot of additional,paid themes now online store 2.0 as i've,been using it over the last eight to,nine months has been a huge upgrade it,really does take shopify to that next,level and take it into 2022 and it feels,like a new and exciting and fresh,experience as opposed to kind of the old,and a little more clunky experience,although i still thought shopify was,very good before the upgrade,now it just really is at a whole new,level initially a lot of the upgrades we,saw with os 2.0 were on the back end,with the coding with the language so,shopify rolled this out to developers,and just now we're starting to see a lot,of these upgrades coming to us as,sellers,let's start with dawn dawn was the first,one that rolled out uh when they rolled,out online store 2.0 and i've actually,been using dawn for a while and i think,it is the best of these four themes from,my experience now keep in mind these,other themes are brand new so i haven't,had a lot of time to really use them but,dawn has been pretty awesome and at the,end of this video i'm gonna go into the,editor and kind of show you what that,new editing experience looks like if,you're editing with the dawn theme so,let's look at what it has to offer here,and we'll look at some examples dawn is,great for clothing and accessories,health and beauty home and garden,and you kind of get some pictures and,some different things here minimalistic,design,media forward product page advanced,customization options that's actually my,favorite thing about dawn is the,customization options which i'm going to,show you uh here at the end of the video,but dawn is really really good if we,look at a pr

want to add a custom font to your,Shopify store I have found a few,tutorials recently but I didn't find,that they were quite up to date with the,Shopify that I was using so if you log,into your Shopify and go to your store,you'll want to preview your online store,first that way you can have a look at,which CSS you will be targeting to,change the font so I'm gonna look at the,headings so if you control right click,and inspect you should be able to find,that the section I'm looking at it will,highlight there we go then I want to,find the header right so I'll be looking,at the headers anyway so that's quite,easy but if there's any other font that,you want to change your meticulous you,can go through the code this way and,find out what the class is that you'll,be targeting so go back to Shopify now,I'll just go to home so you can see it,again so what you want to do is go to,your theme edit code now that's just,open straightaway for me but if that's,all collapse it will be under your,assets so assets and you'll be looking,for the theme SCSS liquid,file now that that's opened I'm going to,go to a site called font squirrel so you,can type that in ivory in there recently,as you can see so go to the web font,generator I I just leave it as optimal,let's find a font that I have recently,downloaded which was Appleton,this one's a licensed one so just make,sure that you have a license or it's,free to use open and yes it did sorry,okay and I'll open zip that way it's all,already on zipped ready to use so,there's two file well three files in,there that I'll be using the first two,are the ones that we'll need to add into,the assets folder in the Shopify and,third one is where we will get the code,that we'll need to copy and paste into,the theme file so let's go back to,Shopify in the same folder assets folder,you want to go add new asset select your,latest files so I think where is it gone,I've downloaded a few times recently so,you want to download each of those files,so that'll be done separately so second,one asset then if you go to I'm just,gonna go file open and have a look at,the CSS sheet that was downloaded with,that web font generator from font,squirrel and you're basically just,copying and pasting this code so command,C on Mac and oops I've shut the page I,needed instead of hoping your new one so,I'll just go back there so we're in the,theme s CSS and I I just pop it down the,bottom so scroll to the very bottom of,the,Paige control-v on Mac to paste save,that just check that those files are,still there because I accept my close,that in assets yes they're still there,great so using command F to find the CSS,selector I am going with headings so,I'll just type h1 for example that,should what's happened here I think I'm,on the wrong page there we go so I'm,looking for h1 okay what you want to do,is pop in the name of the font that,you've just downloaded now if you want,to make sure it's exactly the same which,I would recommend otherwise that's not,gonna wo

Free vs Paid Shopify Themes (Pros/Cons)

hey it's klaus here with another,e-commerce coffee break quick tip,episode today i want to talk about,the differences between having a paid,and a free theme on shopify,so i had a client this morning who asked,me to,for a app for plugin,for his shopify store i couldn't find,anything in the app store shopify just,to have a different notification bar,you wanted to do a very short or small,change in there and i told him it's,better to have a developer,doing a couple of lines of codes for him,and have this done as a fix quick fix,instead of buying a monthly fee for a,app,and that's the problem with a lot of,people have so there are not developers,or they want to have a feature and they,could go the quick and dirty way of,looking for a app in the shopify store,and they collect more and more apps in,their store which will slow down their,store and will increase their monthly,invoice because most of the apps will,cost you five dollars seven dollars,twelve dollars whatsoever and this just,adds up at the end of the month,so the main question you should ask,yourself is,do you really want to go the route of,having another app in your store,or do you want to have a developer doing,a once-off job for i don't know 20 30,to implement a quick fix in your store,without having an app and then this,basically pays very quickly for itself,the other option you have is instead of,collecting a lot of apps with different,features for your store,instead of going for a free or a cheap,theme go for a premium and obviously was,that a more expensive shopify theme,because these themes come with a lot of,features,that usually are already included in,there so you don't need to have,additional apps,so you can have a shopify theme which,has i don't know the equivalent of 20 30,apps already included,and,that will save you a lot of money over,time you might,pay 200 or 400 or 500 dollars for a,premium theme as a one's off,but then you have all the features and,functionalities that you're looking for,already in there,if you are getting into the habit of,adding more and more apps obviously that,will add up with every single app that,you have and you will reach very very,quickly within a few months probably the,um price or what you pay for these apps,over time what you would otherwise have,invested into a once off fee for a,premium theme,so therefore the app store is a great,source but on the other hand it can be,also,costing a lot of money if you just,aimlessly add more apps,to your store,so just to summarize if you have a store,and you want to add features really,think about if you want to use the app,for that,if you want to use a developer to do a,one-time job to integrate that into your,store,or use a premium theme which has these,features already included,on the long term usually it pays off to,go for a premium theme,to invest your 400 500 into a premium,theme it just gives you so much more,variability flexibility on what you can,do with your store even without the help,of a softwar
