hi this is gear from Shopify today we're,going to have a look at the starter,theme called skeleton it's a Shopify,theme that you can download from github,and it's maintained by shopify so first,thing we're going to do is go and grab a,copy of that by going to get hub calm,and i'm just going to search for that,there's quite a few repositories called,skeleton so the easiest thing to do if,you type in skeleton dash theme,hopefully we should find it and there it,is Shopify skeleton theme let's click on,that okay so you can see the the last,change was eight hours ago so it's,well-maintained and this is sort of read,me down the bottom that tells you all,about it but I'll turn a little bit more,about it and some of the details once we,downloaded it you can of course use a,github for Mac and clone it but I'm just,going to grab the zip file so I'm just,going to click on that icon there okay,that's come down so let me show in,finder and there it is I'm just going to,put that on my desktop and close these,windows down there it is extract the zip,file and then bring the folder front and,center okay as you can see we've now got,the familiar Shopify folder structure,here with our assets or config layout,snippets and our templates I have a look,at the actual files in a bit more detail,shortly but why don't we just upload the,theme to our dev shop so I can show you,in action okay so I'm just going to go,to Shopify calm / partners and log into,my partner account here we go and,hopefully I remember my password,correctly okay yes I do want chrome to,remember thank you so deb shops and i'm,going to use the Shopify for designers,development shop this is the,accompanying website to the series of,workshops that i do so just let me log,into that again okay we've touched on,themes in previous screencast that is,how to upload them and how to change,them so just go to the themes tab and,upload a theme we've already got the zip,file from github so i'm just going to,choose that from my desktop and there it,is and click upload as you can see there,it is and let me just publish that,that's such a year going to swap out the,minimal theme which is the one that's,already published with the skeleton,theme that I've just uploaded and yes i,do want to replace minimal so let's go,ahead and publish that okay that's how,easy it is so let's go and have a look,at our website and here it is this is,the skeleton theme in action as you can,see Sir very very bare bones we've got a,menu we've got some text we've got some,products this is one I added as you can,see some very very basic styling nothing,too heavy at all clicking back there,we've got the opportunity to add the,product to the car,just double check that happen yep and,there we go and this is our car as you,can see really really simple a really,really good base to get started with ok,so one I'll just drop that onto sublime,and here it is so as you can see very,very limited number of assets there's no,graphics in there we've just got

all right guys so in this video i'm,going to be showing you how you can go,ahead and,customize your debut theme within,shopify so debut theme,is the theme that all shopify stores,start out with,by default when you go ahead and start a,shopify store and if you haven't already,opened your shopify store yet you can,start your 14 day free trial by clicking,the first link in the description,so i figured i'd make this video because,debut theme,is one of the most commonly used themes,because it's the one that all stores,start out with and the view theme,actually looks,really good so right here we can see,that this is what debut theme looks like,when it's first installed with,absolutely nothing filled out,so we can see that we have where our,logo should be,we have a big header right here with,some text we have an image here,we have three images with text below,here we have,a uh empty collection and we have,another,um header type image right here another,wallpaper image,we have some testimonials and we have,three images down here,and then we have the footer so,right now we have a nice little template,but it's blank,so if you're looking to go ahead and,fill out,your um store using debut theme,the first thing you're going to want to,make sure you have is,a few key things so i'm going to bring,up a notepad and just make sure,because before you go ahead and start,the design process you're going to need,a couple things so the first one is,going to be a logo,so i assume you already have a logo at,this point if you're ready to start your,store design but if not,then make sure you get a logo first,because everything else is going to be,based around the logo,and then we're going to have a color,scheme selected,and normally this color scheme is going,to,be derived from colors from your logo,and typically,you're going to use one to two colors,to base your entire store around and,like i said these colors will be derived,from the logo and the next thing we're,going to need,is a couple wallpaper photos,so we can see we're going to need some,photos to go ahead and put back here in,this header,we need some photos to put back here and,this header as well,so if you have any large photos related,to your business,go ahead and upload them to your,computer or,put them all in one folder so we can go,ahead and,use them as backgrounds here and if you,don't you can use,different sites such as pixabay,to find free stock images that you can,go ahead and use,so let's just type in something like,fishing,so if you had a store related to fishing,you could go ahead and just,look for different stock photos here,or maybe you have something related to,yoga,or fitness you can type in a lot,of different niches depending on what,your store is based around,and you can use some of these wallpapers,to go ahead and put back here,now obviously i do think it's better if,you have your own,custom photos but uh you know not,everyone's gonna have that starting out,so if you don't you can go ahead and us

hi guys welcome to dead ground so i'm,going to show you a real quick video,all about how you can speed up your,shopify site,in little more than about 20 characters,20 characters yes,so i've been running a shopify store for,the last seven years,and the thing that i've been focused on,every single day has been speed speed,and performance and if you run a shopify,store,and you actually look at the details on,things like pingdom,gt metrics page speed insights you'll,probably be pulling your hair out a lot,more hair than this,and then a shopify store there's an,awful lot of functionality and apps,you can get on shopify which can make,your store slick,quite nice to engage with but all that,comes at a cost of performance,and one of google's known ranking,factors is speed,importantly page performance the ability,for it to load on mobiles,and well if your site's not fast and,you're wondering why you're not ranking,that might be your point so we have,always focused on every site we launch,for our own business this is for our own,business as well as for clients is,speed speed and performance down to,whether or not you,uh start with a theme a pre-made theme,look for the fastest theme you can have,look for the fastest theme with the most,functionality and features already built,in so you haven't got to then,add apps to do those things i always try,to strip away things,anyway i told you i'd show you how you,can speed up your site,with about 20 characters let me just,explain first,why you do that and what the problem is,so,when you download an app on shopify uh,every app will say to you our app super,light,and the code runs asynchronously and,what that means is as the site runs,the app is not blocking the rest of the,page to load it what it does it sort of,runs at the same speed and so it's,called a synchrony it runs at the same,time,and that's their that's their sort of,pitch that hey this is not going to,affect your site,but the reality is if you download,something like with a delivery timer so,on a product page at the add to cart it,will say order now within the next x,minutes and it will constantly cascade,down based on your geographic region,um to get next day shipping i'll get,delivery by xday it's a great feature,really good feature people want to know,when are they going to get some things,one of the most common reasons,to abandon car is shipping related,issues not knowing when it's going to be,maybe it's too long,hidden costs so having a shipping,delivery timer with a predicted date,there,telling them when they do it it hits,with sort of fomo for missing out but,it's a really cool little feature,however and it's not it's be fake it's,also,it's not a not a particularly large,feature however,when you download an app like that on,shopify it's injected into your,theme liquid and your theme liquid is,essentially the,the page for your entire site your your,theme i suppose,i suppose it's the skeleton of your site,that means when you load a blog page the,scrip

all right what's up guys this is jake in,this video i'm going to be showing you,how you can go ahead and customize and,build a store using the dawn theme with,shopify so dawn is the new default theme,whenever you set up a shopify store so,we're gonna go ahead and take a look at,how you can,set it up to make your store look good,so first thing you need to do if you,don't already have a store you can go,ahead and click the first link in the,description,and you'll be taken to this page right,here and you can just enter your email,address and go ahead and start your free,trial and we can go ahead and get,started setting up your store,so once you've went ahead and started,your trial,you're going to be taken to the back end,of the store right here and we can see,that by default the current theme is,going to be dawn so what we're going to,go ahead and do first is take a look at,the base template of this theme and then,we're actually going to start building,it out so i'm going to come over here to,actions and click on preview and now we,can go ahead and take a look at the base,skeleton that dawn provides us so we can,see here that we have a little,announcement bar up top we have our logo,we have our menu and we have the cart,and search icon we have a nice header,wallpaper right here along with a call,to action right here,we have another little,call to action with some information,right here we have,four featured products right here in,this section,and then we have a media collage that,includes a video,a collection and a product and then we,have a video section down here and then,we have a multi-column section which,includes three different text sections,right here and then we have the footer,so this is how dawn looks out of the box,and we're going to do a couple small,changes to it but mostly we're going to,be,building out this store using the base,skeleton of the theme to keep things as,simple as possible so with that said,we're going to go ahead and come back,over here and really quickly we're going,to take a look at the things you're,going to need to go ahead and build out,your store using this theme,so the first thing you're going to need,is a logo if you don't already have a,logo for your business or your brand you,can make one over here at logomaker.com,or you can come over here to fiverr.com,and search for a logo designer and get,one made for relatively cheap the next,thing you're going to need is some,wallpaper photos because we've seen,especially on the header you're going to,need some photos to use for that so,these are going to be pictures that are,related to your brand or your product,and if you don't have any of those,yourself you can go ahead over here to,pixabay.com or,unsplash.com to look for free stock,photos that are related to your product,or niche and then obviously we're going,to need product photos as well as,product details so this is something,that i assume you would already have,and then in this case we saw that there,was a video

hello and welcome in this video I'm,going to generate a Shopify team with a,lot more options so this is again going,to be a starter team and it does not,have anything out of the box but it is a,good starting point to develop your own,team so in the previous video as you,know we use the team kit to generate our,team but the templates are a lot,different than what we saw in the debut,team for example you don't have a,snippet you don't have sections you have,your missing muscle templates also if,you open some of them they have the only,thing they have it like the titles and,some subjects and if we come to the,customers if you open the login it does,not have the code even this could does,not do anything and this is not what we,want so I need something it should have,a little bit of coding out of the box,for me so it will save time and it is,going to be a standard team so how you,can do this one you can use this little,if you remember in the beginning of the,tutorial I said the air is a tool called,is literal this is developed by Shopify,teams but this is under low maintenance,you are not going to maintain it for now,because as I said this is not very good,because it does not work on Windows and,there are many more things about this,one I didn't like about this but the,good things they have they have a,stronger team like they can generate a,team for you which have most of the,feature out of the box it does not have,any styling but it has a lot of template,automatically like created if I come to,my account my account section it has all,the liquid file I need so I don't need,to coat the liquids and what is required,and what is not required it is already,there all you have to sell it so if you,come to the documentation here you don't,have to go through everything if you,want you can do this one but in the,guide how to create your own team you,can see if you have installed your in,your computer you can start creating,your own team so let's create team this,run this coming in our terminal and see,what happens so here in the directory I,am recording the video,I open power I will open the portion,here and I,test the code to see how it works oops I,forgot to copy this one sometimes,general does that if you copy it does,not take it so if you run this coming I,already have your install so make sure,you do have your initial and see what,this is going to create as you can see,it will download all the packages I will,do everything practically you don't have,to do everything I will push the code on,github all you have to do is you can,clone that repo and then you can start,creating your own tip that's all you,have to do for now I will do everything,manually if you are interested you can,watch it otherwise you can watch the,next video where I will show you how you,can clone it how you can push it and,pull it from github and start using it,so it will take a while to install,everything on configure so while this is,drink let's see what it has created here,is our team

hello everyone how are you doing this is,blind club again this is episode 3 of,building our shopify team from scratch,and today we will interact with our,first with our first show for fighting,basically but before we do i just want,to show you that we have a discord if,you want to join it's all about shopify,development if you are interested and,the link is in the description,and also,i want you to check if you haven't,watched the two episodes that i've made,earlier,you really need to watch them because,uh that way you will understand,how,the how to create a development store,and all the toolings that we have set up,already so,basically now,we have the shopify cita already set up,so if i type shopify cli dash,h we'll get help command we have no gs,also setup which we'll use to improve,our development environment,and,that's basically it we also have git,which is a way to manage our,project,and,what else i think that's all that's all,we need at now we will actually improve,our development tools uh progressively,and so yeah let's get started i will,just go to the folder structure the team,called it sandbox if you check we,actually have two files one is called,one is called dot get ignored the other,one is just a readme file for,documentation that's all,and before we get started with creating,our shopify team we need to understand,what is a shopify team in the first,place,what is a shopify team yes,and,basically a shopify team is just a bunch,of static files it's,think of it like just a folder just like,any regular folder that has files static,files like images,just like that think of it like that a,folder,that has static files and also has also,some folders so we have,seven folders in fact we have seven,folders we will create one by one and,why we have seven folders it's because,shopify has something called,the shopify the standard directory,structure,and this needs to be respected it's,basically shopify seeing that if you,want to build a shopify team you need to,respect this guideline so let's get,started with creating our shopify team,yeah let's do that so,the folders are called the first folder,is called config i will just call it,config and,it's called config you need to call it,config in fact,uh mkdir config this is default folder,the second folder will be called assets,it's basically a folder that will hold,all the assets static assets in facts,and you need to understand one thing we,will get through every folder in more,details in upcoming episodes so don't,worry about this for now i just want to,talk about shopify team in general,and the second folder we call it layout,and the the fourth folder will be called,um templates,yes templates,and sections and finally we have one two,three four five snippets and the final,folder that is used for translations,will be called locals,now we have,symbol folders assets config layout,locals sections snippets and templates,this is basically all we need this is,our shopify team the other files you can,ignore

liquid a server-side templating language,designed by shopify for building themes,and page templates,but what does that even mean let me,explain,okay so every web page on the internet,is made up of just three things,there's html,css,and maybe some javascript,but nothing else,the way these three technologies come,together is that html is like the,skeleton or the building blocks of a,website,css takes care of the styling so this is,where things get arranged and start to,look good,and then javascript is like the muscles,of a website so this is where things,become really interactive,okay now if you ever try to build a site,from scratch using html css and,javascript,then you already know that it can be,quite a bit of work,you have to write all the code things,need to be tested debugged adjusted and,so forth and then you only end up with,one single page but if we're talking,about an entire website that could mean,multiple pages or in the case of an,online store it could actually mean,hundreds or thousands of different pages,if the store had a ton of different,products for example and then coding all,these different pages would not only be,extremely time consuming it would also,be very hard to maintain,because let's say we somehow managed to,create 1 000 different files for 1 000,different product pages just imagine,that in the future someone wants us to,make a simple change to all of them we,would be busy the entire day just doing,the same change over and over and over,again on all these different product,pages and of course i don't know about,you but personally i don't know a single,developer who would enjoy doing that,so the question really becomes is there,potentially a better way,and you know what now that we talk about,it,all these different different product,pages actually look suspiciously similar,to me i mean maybe it's just me but they,all have a title a prize maybe some,images so in essence they're really not,that different from each other right and,maybe also instead of having a thousand,different pages with these hard-coded,values,wouldn't it be cool if we just had one,single template file that works for all,the different products because then we,just need to create the page once and,for the price the title etc we would,then need some sort of a dynamic,placeholder so that we can grab the,right data depending on the product,that's currently viewed and this product,data is available on the shopify backend,anyway,and believe it or not that's exactly,what shopify liquid is,it's a server-side templating language,for building themes and page templates,and you could say it creates a bridge,between your html files and the data of,a store,so that one single template file works,with multiple objects of the same kind,in this example it was products but of,course we could also make the same case,for other types of objects for instance,all the collections are similar,collection template or all the block,articles are similar they all have a,title some con
