Theme Development: New Tools, Better Liquid (Shopify Unite 2017)
well good afternoon everyone my name is,nathan ferguson i'm the front-end of,the themes team and Shopify I'm joined, today by Dave,a-kor new senior developer lead of the, online store channel, all right today everyone's have a theme, development more specifically we're,going to be talking about some new tools,we've launched for the editor and some, that are upcoming and we're gonna be,talking about some improvements of it,made in liquid that'll make customizing, themes easier as well take a moment to,remind everyone you can start asking, your questions now through the app using, the QA Code YYZ to be able to submit, those throughout the talk and at the end,we'll take a I pad and answer questions, you've submitted so last year you,Nightwind, announced a new way of building, storefronts using section and by October,of that year we launched a new editor as,well as a new starter theme called debut, that came with a wide range of section, types and in just four months February,of this year every theme in the theme, store was using sections and today there, are 45 unique themes powered by section,in terms of merchants adoption as Satish, mentioned this morning the vast majority,of customizations being done in the, editor today are being done on section, theme and partners have been using, sections to give their clients more, control over the site's content and its, layout this is a clean theme this is,expressed expression theme by clean, themes and here they have a static, sidebar where they let their merchants, choose customize their own sidebar from,a variety of block types and as well of,course reorder the sections the blocks,as they see fit, another example so the JavaScript API,makes customizing themes for partners, and merchants a better experience this,is a trademark screen by maestro who is,in the audience today I see so they have, their own custom script so it's able to,hook into editor events which make sure, that the appropriate content is always, brought into focus so the new editor in,sections have made customizing themes a,much better experience for partners and, merchants but this just isn't for themes,in the theme store shelf I plus, merchants and and shop buy no shelf I,plus partners and Java partners have, been using sections and creative ways, for the client since its release and I'd,like to give an example today from CTMS,a Shopify Plus partner,so this merger is called kalo it's based, here in California and they have a page,as promoting a product called stackable, let you design your own silicone ring,CTMS is using a static section to give, their merchants the control of what, feature combination is shown on that, template and they're using another, static section to let their merchants, control what related collections and, related products get shown alongside it,so sections and the JavaScript API,represent vast improvements and, customizing themes we've continued to,ship some improvements they'll make, building themes for this new editor a,much better experience to start w

HOW I MADE A LIVING SELLING BEATS IN 2 MONTHS WITH NO FOLLOWERS
HOW I MADE A LIVING SELLING BEATS IN 2 MONTHS WITH NO FOLLOWERS
so in today's video what we're going to,go over is some of the best ways as a,producer to make big money what we're,going to outline in this video is three, different revenue streams that i'm going,to be pushing for this year of which i,think are worthwhile to making a lot of,money so before we start i'm just going,to say that the first one is beats that,we are going to be covering this was, pretty much my whole revenue stream uh,throughout the beginning of this year, before i started like focusing on,youtube a little bit more and yeah i was, still in university at the time and i,was making some pretty good money just, off selling beats so we're gonna go into, some of the strategies i used to be able,to do that these are just some loopholes,i've found to sell in a good amount of,beats so yeah let's get into it right so,right so i've got a little list so we're,just going to go through some of these,so the first one is beats so likelihood,is that if you are a producer probably, make beats in which case once you've got,the b you need to find a way of,promoting it so there is a few different, places you can put them so we're going,to go from now so the first is beat, stars so this is probably the most, popular one if you have been producing, for a little bit you've probably heard,of beat stars so this is what beat stars, looks like and this is where artists, will find your beats and purchase them,so all the purchases from here come, through to a paypal account so this is,like the easiest way of getting your, beats sold you have a bunch of these, different contract types which you can, make yourself so for the mp3 i've got, thirty dollars for the mp3 web and track, stems i've got 79 blah blah blah and so,on you can negotiate a price if you, think you'd be it's really good charge a,million if you want so yes 99 of the, times to this day still i still use beat, stars when i go to promoting any of my,beats or even if someone just sort of,hits me up and like oh i want this beat,i'll just send them the link to on my,beat stars and yeah it's just pretty, much the easiest thing they get the b i,get my money we're all good so once you, have got a b uploaded to beat stars and,now you can sort of like get into where, you're gonna promote it so the first, obvious place is youtube so if you just, type in type b there's literally gonna,be a million maybe even billions of,beats maybe maybe not billions so a good, strategy if you are going this route, would be to get something like tubebuddy,so i even use this for doing these like, youtube videos so what tubebuddy does is,it gets your keyword so for example if,we just click on this one now you got a,bunch of keywords here which that person, used of which could have possibly been, the reason why this beat blew the hell,up so if you press this sure rankings so,now it's going to show you what are the,top keywords for the artists uh central,c type beat 2021 and yeah this is really, important if you're doing the type b,game is the keywords and this is g

SREcon16 Europe - Scaling Shopify's Multi-Tenant Architecture across Multiple Datacenters
okay welcome back,um hopefully you're all sufficiently, caffeinated from tea coffee and i,enjoyed uh some time networking outside, now back to real sre networking, and i'd like to introduce florian, weingarten from shopify who's going to,talk about this, yeah good morning uh thanks for coming,to my talk um my name is flo and i work,on the production engineering team at,shopify, and today i want to talk about, scaling shopify's multi-talent,architecture across multiple data, centers,so just a few quick words about shopify,um,our headquarters is in ottawa we're,canadian company and we have a couple of,other offices in toronto and montreal in,waterloo and especially for the, production engineering team we also have,a bunch of remotes, all over europe but also in north, america, and,a quick quick history, lesson about how shopify, started so,shopify was, started by this guy from germany who, around 2003 2004,left germany to go to canada and he,decided to sell snowboards and he wanted,to sell them online,so he was looking for, evaluating all the existing e-commerce,solutions and um,he wasn't really satisfied with any of,them and um,everything he found was kind of targeted, for like enterprise and like for for, existing businesses who want to,transition online but there wasn't,really anything to start a business, online, and since he had a he had a very strong, programming background he,um decided to use this weird japanese, programming language that nobody has, heard of in 2003 and, that's how shopify started and, after a while he realized that maybe, the software that he wrote to sell, snowboards should be the product and not,the snowboard so,um he decided to restructure the, application to be a multi-tenant,architecture,and,just to give you an idea of the the kind,of,size we're talking about,um,we,today we have around um 275,275 000 merchants and on a normal day we,do about um something around 16 000,requests um per second, and um,so we have we have around um more than, more than 1200 employees,um most of them in in canada,um,that's me,so the the talk is kind of structured as,um as a history um,around the evolution of our platform so,in 2004 there was only one tenant, snow devil there was the snowboard store, and then shortly after we changed it to,be a multi-tenant architecture, and um what i mean by multi-tenant is,that the same code based and the same, deployment um supports multiple, user multiple tenants um,in contrast to just, deploying the same single tenant, application multiple times,so um,for the next um couple years there, wasn't really that much changes in this, architecture um but then around 2011,2012 or so,as,this the platform got bigger and we if,you saw emil's talk you had a little bit, about flash sales um so those things, happened and um we ran into serious, scaling problems um,for a little bit of context,we are, pretty much a traditional ruby and wales, monolith and there is scaling, limitations that you that you will run, into,so in in 2013 2014 we we started to,address thos

How OpenX Built a Scalable Global Digital Revenue Platform - Anthony Molinaro
How OpenX Built a Scalable Global Digital Revenue Platform - Anthony Molinaro
see ya Anthony Molinaro I'm a senior, staff engineer at open axe and I know, you're supposed to traditionally sort of,start with a joke but I couldn't really, come with one up with one so I just sort,of let our marketing guy come up with a,title of my talk so if I can get it to,pop up there it is so I kind of think,it's sort of silly title but you know so,what our marketing guy decided that it,should be so what am I here to talk, about well I want to talk a little bit, about sort of the history of open axe, what it is what we do and sort of how,Erlang fits into this picture and then a,little bit about sort of how I conspired,to get Erlang used in quite a bit of,open axe so open X actually has a sort,of long lineage it actually started out,in 1998 as a PHP ad server called PHP,ads Rabia was a script or who knows and,it sort of went through various name, changes over time became PHP ads knew, became open ads eventually around 2007,it was rebranded as open X and I sort of,went and looked at the download this is,sort of the downloadable product and,it's actually installed on quite a few, servers according to one of these online, top sites things and the way it was, originally built was pretty much, straightforward to tear app PHP and my,sequel so I've got a little picture and, hopefully everything comes through here, but what we had is you know we had an ad,server we had some way to manage the, data data was sort of kept in my sequel, and I sort of keep little boxes to keep, track of the languages that these, components are written in because a big, part of this is well how did we get,Erlang so in 2008 the company was, incorporated, they hired a CEO who was an employee,Yahoo he left Yahoo he lived in Pasadena, the company had been based in Europe but,he didn't really want to move to Europe,so he moved headquarters to Pasadena and, started hiring a lot of sort of X Yahoo, folks but at this point most of the, development was still being done in,Europe mostly instead of outsourced, there and they started developing, the sort of the vision for the company, changed from like a downloadable product,to hey let's sort of focus on like, enterprise customers,software-as-a-service will run out, servers for them as opposed to them, running them themselves and then in,order to make money we should create a,marketplace where you know advertisers, who maybe don't have a direct, relationship with the publishers running, this ad server have a place to go and,you know bid on inventory you know bid,on eyeballs as they're showing up so the, open X is called the market and, development began since it was still the, same people that had been working on the,ad server it was sort of started in PHP,in addition at this point Hadoop was, introduced because you know once you, weblog has only get you so far and, there's usually a lot of information, you'd like so there's a protocol called, the lightweight event system that is,great for sort of logging information, and a bridge was created to sort of dump, that data onto H

Most Favoured Nation Clauses
Most Favoured Nation Clauses
okay so sanction and thanks to the ccp,for uh,giving me the opportunity to to to,present this,uh today uh so i'm going to quickly, review uh,economic theories that have been, developed in relation to some of the, cases, and use of mfns or price parity clauses,by platforms, and then discuss the empirical evidence,so recent empirical evidence, and maybe ask whether we we,we are really still looking at the right,uh questions,so economic theory there's been a few, papers that, that have been written on this uh on,this issue of uh platform price parity, closes,uh with that i will group here in two uh,in two groups so the first group, starting with bookend courts,uh published in journal affluent, economics two years, back and johnson in review of economic, studies, look at the impact of commission at the, impact of,mfns on on commissions, and show that price parity clauses, will tend to increase equilibrium, commissions, and this will lead to higher equilibrium, prices, and the intuition is very simple and,it's uh,it's very close to the theory of arm, that's been developed in the um,in the various cases especially in the,uh,in the hotel sector or in the cma car, insurance, inquiry so the idea is once you have, price parity if you,if one platform increases its commission, that's going to increase the cost for,for suppliers but suppliers will, pass on this added cost through uniform, price increases,so they will increase prices uniformly,on all price on all platforms because of,the,uh price parity especially if you have, generalized price parity that means,uh prices will be equal everywhere, and so this price increase has no impact,on market shares,it has a second order effect on total, sales but, more or less the market shares are not, affected the margin, increases for the platform so that gives,a unilateral incentive to increase, the commission above the originally, competitive equilibrium without mfm,so mfns i lead to higher commissions and, higher commissions are higher costs,so higher costs lead to higher, equilibrium prices and consumers, are armed by the by the mfns,a few years ago we kind of,extended that model with uh collect from, bergen bjorn olaf johansson and,so what we did is we simply added what,we observe in practice so direct sales, but more importantly we also allow, suppliers to freely choose on which, platform,to sell once they have observed the, commissions,so you negotiate commissions and if the, commissions are too high you can simply, drop out of,of the expensive platform, and that has an important uh impact on,the,on the equilibrium come as we as we show, especially when competition between, suppliers,or inter-brand competition is fierce, enough and the idea is if one,uh if one platform becomes too expensive,so,increases its commission above the other,or substantially above the others,it becomes tempting for the suppliers to,drop out of that platform so they are, going to lose the consumers, who are loyal to that platform but you, know at least in a symmetric model, that's,one part

What factors decide YOUTUBE CPM? HIGH CPM YouTube Cash Cow Niches | Earn 100$ a Day | What is CPM?
can a youtube creator cpm change for no,app and reason,by studying different channels we know, that cpms fluctuate all the time,it increases or decreases, and it doesn't happen randomly whether, your cpm source to the moon like dodge, coin or drops to the ground like a,meteor there's a specific reason every, time so here are the 7 reasons why your, cpn might have been down,so before proceeding to the video let's,exactly know what is cpm on youtube, cpm is the amount of money advertisers, pay per thousand views for example if,one of your videos get 1 lakh views and,the cpm is 8.5,the video's total revenue is 850 dollars, that's a nice profit but only a portion,of it goes to your bank account youtube, takes a 45 cut which leaves you with 467,dollars,after that subtract a healthy amount for, taxes, this is a best case scenario because not, every view on youtube is monetized in,the youtube studio there's a metric, called estimated monetize playbacks it,shows how many views were actually, monetized on your channel,to find all this data you should go to,the youtube studio go to the analytics, page to see your cpm and estimated, monitors playbacks, and with that in mind here are the seven, factors that increase or decrease your, cpm the first factor is how safe your, videos are for viewing, does your video show idle content or,guns and violence,or shocking content or dangerous acts or,demeaning words or derogatory content, these kind of videos are cpm killers for,the most part, advertisers want to market their product,on positive user-friendly pg-13 videos,so anything that falls outside this gray, area will result in limited monetization, and lower cpms, here are the youtube's list of,non-advertiser friendly topics, you must have seen this page very often, let me read that to you the first one is,inappropriate language violence rl,content shocking content harmful or,dangerous acts hateful or delegate free, content recreational drugs and drug, related content, firearms related content controversial, issues sensitive events, demanding words remaining videos tobacco, related content idle themes in family, content so these are the topics, that will lower your cpm if you have a,doubt you should follow these youtube's,community guidelines to keep your, channel in good standing and earn the, highest possible cpm,the second factor is,if your channel is made for kids or not,a couple of years ago youtube was fined, the sum of 170 million dollars for, violating the children's online privacy, act, this law states that websites cannot, collect personal information from users, under 13 years of age so what does that, mean for you if you have a made for kids, channel it essentially means you'll make, less ad revenue youtube isn't allowed to,collect personal interest data for most, children as a result those views don't,see targeted ads they are likely to,click advertisers know this and they, aren't willing to pay top dollar for ads, placed on content with limited revenue,so if you have a kids channel that's,another fa
