Well, everyone Christian here,that, you know,,beautiful design and excellent,user experience can increase,the perceived value,of your Shopify store.,I want to go over best practices.,Why they actually matter.,And I'm actually going to show you,hands on how to get it done,on the dawn theme.,Stick around.,It takes point zero,5 seconds for a customer to decide,if they're going to,shop on your site or not.,That's insane if you think about it.,So it's very,,very important,that you are doing,everything in your power,to stand out,and make a great first impression.,Now we're going to categorize,best practices,into four main categories,that define a great e-commerce,website experience.,Number one is going to be,esthetically pleasing.,The be esthetically,pleasing category.,So first off,,your Shopify store,needs to impress,the customer, right?,So a good visual appeal is a must.,If you're going to capture,their attention and 50 milliseconds.,So what are some best practices,to ensure that your website,is esthetically pleasing?,Well, I'm glad you asked.,The first one is to display,your product,photography with a clean,white background,and also include,lifestyle photos of your products,being used.,That's like the gold standard.,You don't,necessarily have to,follow it verbatim,,but I'm telling you,,these are best practices.,So maybe,you don't have a white background,,maybe you have a slight,gray background,,maybe you have a pan background.,The important thing here,is to make sure,that your photography is on point,,that your photography looks,great, crisp,,you can actually appreciate,the product.,We've actually talked,on several videos,on different examples,of different websites who are doing,great product photography,and they don't necessarily follow,this white background gold standard.,Now, if you want to follow this,,then the number one app,that I would recommend is removed.,Dot be,,as you can see, remove,that bag,,remove the image background,of any image 100%,automatically and free,if you do want to use removed,the iPhone.,iPhone for iPhone 14 or iPhone 16.,I was,just came out,with an awesome feature,that if you take your photography,with your iPhone,,you can just tap hold,it will cut it out for you,and you can pace of,whatever you want.,So there are ways,to clean up your photos,very, very easily.,And again, obviously,,you want to have awesome lighting,with all your photos,,but cutting them up,,putting them in,some clean backgrounds.,Again, gold standard.,Best practice,number two,is to limit your website,to two main colors.,Use them wisely.,Now, in order to pick your colors,,you want to make sure,that you have some sort of either,brand guidelines or brand kit for,your whole company.,Right.,It's not just coming up with a logo.,A lot of times,the logos are just black and white,and they don't show a lot of color.,So it's very important that you pick,some sort of color palette,that showcases,the personality of the brand.,It showcases,who the brand really is,,and

hey everyone welcome back to this series,on shopify online store 2.0 in this,video we're going to talk about the new,github integration with shopify this is,a very powerful and exciting tool that,has come out in the suite of changes,that shopify have labeled as online,store 2.0 i'm going to jump straight,into the tutorial today and show you how,we can automatically synchronize shopify,themes with branches on repositories,using github,so in today's tutorial what i'm going to,do to illustrate using github in shopify,is to take an existing project create a,git repository connect it to github and,then use that remote repository to,connect to our theme library here on the,shopify store that we're working on in,my case it's chris testing shop as,always all right so,for those of you who haven't really been,across version control in shopify before,this,virtually there's only one native way to,do version control in shopify and if we,click on edit code and look inside here,we can see what it is,let's open up any particular file and as,you can see next to the file name if we,click on older versions this drop down,menu appears and we can revert to an,earlier version,this is a very primitive form of version,control it doesn't work as good as git,git has so many more features in terms,of looking at line by line differences,between commits and branches creating,branches for that matter merging in,branches and pushing and pulling codes,so,git is a much better version control,system than this which was all that,shopify offered you up until now,so clicking out of that i want to draw,your attention to an article i wrote,last year about using git with shopify i,encourage you to still read it even,though it's a little outdated now,because we do have this shopify github,integration now but essentially this is,how i used to do my git before the,integration came out,and because there was no integration,what i would do is i would of course,have to move the code locally,so i talk about the development workflow,here,i would have to move that code locally,as i recommend for all developers to do,and of course i was using themekit at,the time,as shopify cli has only just been,extended to work with themes which we'll,cover in a later video so what i had to,do,was i had to synchronize my theme code,with my branches manually so as you can,see here in this little diagram,you of course have your current live,theme i synced that up with a master,branch and then have a staging branch,and then if there's multiple developers,working on the theme you can have a,branch for each of them and then they,would merge into staging you would look,at staging and then you would merge into,master and go live but the problem with,this is you had to do this all manually,and the changes only went one way,so,using this one-to-one relationship,between themes and branches we were able,to determine which changes had been,carried out on which theme and the only,issue is that this relationship this,structu

alright let's talk about customizing,your theme so your store looks the way,you want it to look if you follow it,along when in the last video you,downloaded the simple theme if you,download it a different one that's fine,as well we're going to go ahead and set,that as the default theme by publishing,it,and if we take a quick peek at that we,can now just view what our site is going,to look like,and there we are so the happiness,t-shirt and the desktop wallpaper,automatically pushed to the homepage,simply because they're in the Home,Collection we can talk about our brand,here we can edit this,as well as add any links down here and,add our menu over here you'll see it,also comes with a search feature and,cart and checkout so we're good to go,let's go ahead and update this make it,look a little bit better back here in,our admin side you click customize,this is going to bring a preview of our,theme up with the customizer on the,left-hand side two things we need to,focus on here sections which is the,areas on our page and theme settings,let's start with theme settings take a,look at colors the background is white,the text is a dark gray as well as the,links and primary button backgrounds are,a dark grey let's just go ahead and,change that and we'll make that kind of,a dark blue,if we go into a product you'll see our,Add to Cart button now is dark blue you,can update any of these as you will,clicking the back button goes back to,the main theme settings area and now I,can update my typography I've never been,a fan of Times New Roman let's go ahead,and choose a lotto lotto is a Google,font so the web font will be downloaded,automatically I much prefer that look,and feel again choose whatever font you,want the base size is 28 pixels if you,like that you can leave it the body text,is Helvetica new and again I like that,just fine you don't want too many,different font styles on your site so,you need to be careful there button size,fonts and navigation size again preset,from our theme,if we click on cart you can choose,whether to stay on the current page when,an item is added to the cart or go,straight to the cart page where they,need to click back and can click on,continue shopping if they want to I,prefer this but it's up to you,navigation shows the breadcrumbs,that's what these are right here and I,like leaving those on social media you,can actually update all of the social,media settings here and as you put in,your own links well then those icons,will show up here for any one that you,select as well you can give a link to an,external blog if you want but of course,ours is on our site and you can also,select an image to show whenever you,link a page to social media completely,up to you one of the cool things is they,have free images here and you can choose,one of these or again you can go back,and get something out of your own,library and there is selected so that,image will be sent with every social,share that we send out we can upload a,favicon the image

shopify world we are back with another,coding video and in this video,i'm going to show you how to add your,own font or someone else's font that you,are registered to use,commercially to your shopify store so,that you know you have a different phone,and it looks better,we're gonna do some coding for this step,by step i'm gonna explain to you how,let's just jump straight into the demo,store okay we are into the demo store,right here let me actually show you what,it currently looks like so you know,i'm not bamboozling you um this is what,it looks like pretty straightforward,the current font let's here we do right,click,inspect the current font of this,particular element is called,pup font works on,song sheriff,here we go font family so we're going to,change,this particular one,let's go let's do this so first and,foremost we're going to,find the font that we need and we're,going to download it so,uh so here we go free commercial use,fonts for a thousand and one fonts um,here this one let's click on this one,um it's free for commercial use which is,fantastic,i personally don't particularly like it,but you know as they say in french,league there is a zip file that is,opened,perfect let's look at that zip file,right here from scriptina,and here we see we have a ttf file,and a text file which is a readme file,let's take a quick look,that says how we can use this font okay,now the font is actually in the ttf file,there is a small issue though is that,shopify will not recognize this dtf,file and will have to convert it your,font will,only work if it is in a woff,format or in a woff,2 format which might seem like an issue,but no worries that's why there is,online converters so let's convert,those files um the easiest way is i,found a little website right here,font converter.net let's go to,that so we go to fonts,converter.net,perfect this is what it looks like,select the,file you want to convert so we're going,to browse,um that's not the right one downloads,scriptina and here is our scriptina ttf,file um i want it in a,let's do a w o f f ii but again a w,o f f would be fine as well i hereby,confirm i have the license,yes because it's a free font um download,your converted font as a zip,scriptina1 it is called and,right here is our,font wf w0f2,perfect now we have the correct font,format file format now we can close,all of this um let's close this as well,so now what what's the next step the,next step is we're going to jump into,the code so you're going to go to online,store,right here and voila we are on the,online store now this is very important,as i say in,all my dev videos make sure to create a,duplicate of your theme,otherwise if you make a mess up it's,going to cost you a lot of money so,super important actions duplicates,and we're going to be working on this,duplicate right here,so now we wait a second until it is,completely copied and then we're ready,to jump,into the code all right that is done so,now on the,copy of the version we want to so on th
