Tobias "Tobi" Lütke is a German-Canadian  billionaire entrepreneur, and the founder  ,and CEO of Shopify, a company based in Ottawa,  Ontario, Canada. Shopify is one of the most  ,incredible technology platforms  to be built in the 21st century. ,In this video, we are going to talk more  about the story and the journey of Tobi.,Tobi isn’t like most big tech CEOs. Even  though he’s worth billions of dollars,  ,he’s somehow very relatable. Whenever someone builds a massively  ,successful business like Shopify, everyone  wants to know the secret of how they did it.  ,And Tobi has answered this  question directly and he said, ,“Because I’m a computer programmer, I actually  succeeded in this. But looking back, I was saying,  ,I only succeeded in this because I was  a computer programmer” - Tobi Lutke,But I don’t think that answer tells the full  story. There are plenty of computer programmers  ,who try to build great companies, only to  crash and burn. Tobi clearly has a different  ,mental model for building companies than most  entrepreneurs, and I wanted to know exactly  ,how he thinks, so I studied the history of Shopify  and boiled his strategy down to a few key points.  ,In 1980, Tobi was born in a small  town in Germany. Like lots of other  ,successful technology entrepreneurs, he started  playing with computers at a very young age.  ,When he was just six years old,  his parents gave him this computer.  ,It looks ridiculously old by modern standards, but  at the time, it was incredibly versatile. Not only  ,could Tobi play games on this thing, but he could  use it to program, and that’s exactly what he did. ,By the time he was 11 years old, Tobi was  hacking games and building his own levels. ,Lots of tech entrepreneurs fall in love with  computers while playing video games as children,  ,but most of them grow out of it and start  focusing entirely on business as they get older.  ,Not Tobi though, he actually claims that video  games taught him more about managing a business  ,than anything else. And his gaming experience  will become really important later in this story. ,By the time Tobi turned 17 years old, he  was completely obsessed with programming.  ,Instead of preparing for college,  he chose to drop out of high school  ,and become an apprentice at one of  the leading German tech companies,  ,Siemens. This experience allowed him to develop  some really solid programming skills and start  ,making decent money, but he wasn’t very  happy with the projects he was working on. ,He was forced to build accounting software for  old-school companies using Java and this just  ,wasn’t scratching his itch to work on cutting  edge technologies. salut a tous laïcs hommes famille,j'espère que vous allez bien c'est yoann,a sauvé aujourd'hui je vous parle d'un,sujet qui me tient réellement à coeur le,parcours client au sein de votre site,internet et sa réassurance,concrètement beaucoup de gens croient,que la conversion vient uniquement de,votre capacité à développer des pubs de,grande qualité,pour moi c'est faux effectivement on,peut avoir des audiences moyennes bonnes,très bonnes noires hyper qualifiés,bon évidemment qu'on attire beaucoup,plus mais ce qui pour moi fait,réellement la différence aujourd'hui,celui qui fait réellement le taf c'est,votre site internet,je fais vite fait un parallèle avec mon,nom c'est un job,vous savez j'avais des boutiques en dur,à marseille et ailleurs,et concrètement la grande différence,avec le e-commerce c'est celle ci quand,on a une boutique en ville dans un choc,dans une rue ce qui se passe c'est que,le plus dur c'est faire venir le trafic,pourquoi parce qu'une fois que le pion à,la rentrée c'est très facile de le,convertir avec des vendeurs des,vendeuses qui vous accueillent qui vous,conseille on va dire pas de doute mais,pas de doute c'est d'abord le produit de,suite vous savez lâche t elle payer,exhaler repartir avec ça c'est le,commerce physique,nous on est sur le commerce web commerce,internet et la cance différence et c'est,très facile de faire venir finalement,beaucoup beaucoup de trafic,non pas qu avec votre budget mais si,vous êtes justement performant dans le,cube,si vous utilisez les bons leviers,d'acquisition graphique naturellement,d'abord beaucoup de trafic contre la,grande différence avec le business en,dur c'est qu'évidemment ça va être,beaucoup plus compliqué à convertir,puisque vous n'êtes pas là vous en,personne,conseiller le client grande foi et le,convertir directement ce qui va,réellement faire la différence pour moi,et pour d'autres,évidemment comme mon ami au riche passé,évidemment la carrosserie de votre site,internet peut considérer que choupi,faille est un excellent moteur pour,lancer un site internet pour développer,son activité,mais concrètement si on n'a pas la,carrosserie qui va faire vraiment vibrer,qui va séduire vos clients quand ils,arrivent sur l'occident pour moi c'est,moi effectivement quand j'ai commencé le,e-commerce j'ai commencé avec le thème,débuts comme tout le monde,je suis passé après sur le thème turbo,sur lequel ben j'arrive et caïn à faire,du chiffre,très très bien mais il est vrai que dès,que j'ai mis face l'oeil le 4 octobre,2010 est sur ma boutique,j'ai rencontré le lait je suis dans un,rassemblement à paris,ça a été une révolution dormons shop,concrètement je suis passé de 2500 euros,de 2017 2000 2005,en l'espace de quinze jours je suis,monté un 5500 euros,on verra ça je vous montrerai ça juste,après surmontant directement vous le,savez je ne fais rien si je ne peux pas,le prouver à l'écran directement les,promesses il y en a marre aujourd'hui on,veut parler de concret avec vous,très honnêtement ce thèm

greetings my wonderful viewers,today i'm gonna make my attempt at,valuation of shopify,now this stock debited at less than,a little short of 30 in 2015,and in a space of just over five years,has gone over a thousand dollars,and in my valuation today i'm just,trying to,understand if this uh numbers the stock,price,numbers are justified,so and how i'll be doing it is and i'll,be breaking this into three steps,the first step is i'll be looking at,other companies in this space,and see if there are inputs that i can,use as assumptions,uh for my valuation of shopify,i'll take those inputs as a part of my,assumptions uh from comparable companies,or similar companies,and add on other inputs specific for,shopify like cost of capital,and projections for the next 10 years,i'll put them into the spreadsheet,available or provided by professor the,modern on his website,and lastly i'll look at the terminal,value and use it to compare,the current stock price come up with the,valuation of the stock,and compare it to the current stock,price,so let's get started i was intrigued by,shopify,when the name showed up on a receipt,that was issued by a local bakery,it's a small bakery probably about 10 15,employees,and they had a homegrown,like a website earlier from which they,transitioned on to the web,of the shopify model and just talking to,the owner i got the sense that they were,pretty happy with uh,with how flexible the site was how,customizable it was,and they didn't seem to have any qualms,about the price,uh because they had let go of the the,local developer and move on to the,shopify model,uh so so the business was there like so,any retailer out there which is,wants a web front uh shopify is a,possible solution for them,but what's also interesting is that,shopify has yet to post,a profit on its financial statements,so there is some kind of disconnect here,and that's what i'm trying to understand,in my valuation today,so let's start by looking at some of the,companies in this space,now there are no direct comparables for,shopify,the only probably a direct comparison,would be big commerce which just went,public a few weeks back but i was able,to,find out other eight companies which are,in this,enterprise resource management uh space,and they are listed here in increasing,order of revenues the,the smallest being the taxes and the,largest being oracle,uh which is about 39 billion in revenues,so without any further analysis i think,what i could get from this,is that the market cap that shopify,currently commands,it seems to be way out of sync in terms,of,the revenues that it's currently pulling,in so it does,deserve a deeper look,now i need some data or some assumptions,to develop my model uh for shopify,so i've used the the operating these are,the non-adjusted numbers,for these eight companies and for my,assumption,i'm using a target 18 operating margin,for shopify for its terminal year,i also need a reinvestment rate,and again these are unadjusted numbers,but i am
