Shopify 101: Using Color Swatches on Your Website Theme

hey boutique owner and other e-commerce,friends um today I want to talk about a,really cool feature that I love but it,does require a little bit of maintenance,um but I think it's definitely worth it,is these cool color swatches so a lot of,themes have this built in if not you,could always have a custom coated in but,if it's something that's really,important to you it might be the kind of,thing that's worth you know like being,on your features list when you're,picking what theme you're gonna go with,and then you're making sure that you,pick a theme that has as many of the,features that you want on it so this is,one of those things so these color,swatches now you'll notice that right,off the bat if you have these color,swatches turned on sometimes the colors,are not exactly the shade that you would,want and sometimes they're just white,and the colors are just not even there,particularly if you have a pattern or a,unique color name now what happens is,that these themes that have this built,in they are pulling colors from a very,very basic set of color codes and so any,color that's out of the ordinary and,even some that like I would consider,very ordinary like well at least in our,industry I mean like love for example,okay maybe that's not that ordinary but,to me it is and blog would not show up,it would show up as white any pattern so,stripes Leopard if you had like a sequin,or a floral like none of that is gonna,you know how could your theme possibly,know what leopard means because even,within leopard there could be different,patterns of Leopard which I don't know,how deep you want to go into that anyway,for these tiny little swatches also some,themes the swatches are bigger so this,one it they're quite small but sometimes,they're square or larger circles so,that's just something to look at when,you're trying to pick the right theme or,if you're having these coated in but,okay it's really easy though to keep,this updated but here's a couple,recommendations one is if you can start,to try to streamline the names,so the variants that you're using for,your colors or patterns or prints or,what have you so if you normally have,for pink for example if you normally,have like 15 different colors that you,sometimes use for pink can you narrow,that down maybe not all to just one pink,because maybe you do still have multiple,like maybe there needs to be a fuchsia,and I'm wofe it but maybe is that enough,or do you need like three but you don't,need like 15 because this will help you,so that when you're adding new products,you don't have to worry every time about,the colors needing to be updated in your,themes coding what do I want to show you,how to do so that's just the tip now the,only issue I can see is I know that some,clients will some boutique owners will,use then the color names that the vendor,used so that way say that they had to,reorder they can remember exactly what,color because I know there are some,brands that could have multiple shades,of pink i

Shopify Dawn Theme Customization - Dawn Theme Design Tutorial (OS 2.0)

all right what's up guys this is jake in,this video i'm going to be showing you,how you can go ahead and customize and,build a store using the dawn theme with,shopify so dawn is the new default theme,whenever you set up a shopify store so,we're gonna go ahead and take a look at,how you can,set it up to make your store look good,so first thing you need to do if you,don't already have a store you can go,ahead and click the first link in the,description,and you'll be taken to this page right,here and you can just enter your email,address and go ahead and start your free,trial and we can go ahead and get,started setting up your store,so once you've went ahead and started,your trial,you're going to be taken to the back end,of the store right here and we can see,that by default the current theme is,going to be dawn so what we're going to,go ahead and do first is take a look at,the base template of this theme and then,we're actually going to start building,it out so i'm going to come over here to,actions and click on preview and now we,can go ahead and take a look at the base,skeleton that dawn provides us so we can,see here that we have a little,announcement bar up top we have our logo,we have our menu and we have the cart,and search icon we have a nice header,wallpaper right here along with a call,to action right here,we have another little,call to action with some information,right here we have,four featured products right here in,this section,and then we have a media collage that,includes a video,a collection and a product and then we,have a video section down here and then,we have a multi-column section which,includes three different text sections,right here and then we have the footer,so this is how dawn looks out of the box,and we're going to do a couple small,changes to it but mostly we're going to,be,building out this store using the base,skeleton of the theme to keep things as,simple as possible so with that said,we're going to go ahead and come back,over here and really quickly we're going,to take a look at the things you're,going to need to go ahead and build out,your store using this theme,so the first thing you're going to need,is a logo if you don't already have a,logo for your business or your brand you,can make one over here at logomaker.com,or you can come over here to fiverr.com,and search for a logo designer and get,one made for relatively cheap the next,thing you're going to need is some,wallpaper photos because we've seen,especially on the header you're going to,need some photos to use for that so,these are going to be pictures that are,related to your brand or your product,and if you don't have any of those,yourself you can go ahead over here to,pixabay.com or,unsplash.com to look for free stock,photos that are related to your product,or niche and then obviously we're going,to need product photos as well as,product details so this is something,that i assume you would already have,and then in this case we saw that there,was a video

hey guys in this one i want to go,through some of the best shopify,themes that are completely free to use,so for this year there are a bunch of,free themes,you can upload these you can edit these,make them really unique but the best,part about them,is they are completely free to use so,you can basically set up your shopify,store,by just downloading one of these themes,and getting straight into it,and that's what we're going to do just,get straight into the video i will leave,some more information in the description,so you can go and check that out i'll,leave some links that might be,interesting and some more information,in the description apart from that let's,just get stuck into the first one which,is debut so debut is a super flexible,theme,and you can basically use this even if,you don't have a lot of products,but if you do have a lot of products it,can work for you too,they really call this debut because this,is one of the main themes that you're,gonna get when,starting out with shopify because of,that it's really,easy to customize this theme and it can,start small and grow with you so,even if you don't have a ton of products,right now it will still look really good,and then as you fill out your site if,you do want more products it's also,gonna have no issues whatsoever in,adding those in it's really easy to,rearrange everything when using debut,actually if you just want to start a,store using your smartphone and you,don't have a computer or,you know you just don't want to do that,you want to start a store really quickly,you can actually use debut on your,smartphone set up your store i've got,some more tutorials on that if you want,to check those out,just look through my videos or maybe,i'll put them in the description as well,but,debut is really customizable and you can,edit it right on your smartphone,if you are on a computer though you can,look between these,two different styles basically one is,called default and one is called light,and you can just see,how different styles can actually really,change the look and feel of a website,one of the things i like most about,davey really is that it's just not,really offensive,and it's not too salesy it looks really,nice and pleasant and welcoming as a,site,and of course you do have the store,there as well to put your products in,this store honestly looks completely,different to an actual store like this,is not amazon most,stores and businesses that are going to,be using shopify are kind of more,boutiquey style,kind of uh not as just mass market as,something that you'd find on amazon and,so,this type of theme i think really goes,well with most businesses that want to,actually use,shopify to sell items not only can you,start your store on here list your,products on here and it's obviously,really simple for the user it just has,that big item up there,shop and then you can go to shop but you,have that home page as well,where you can really just promote your,story and your brand,because obviously if yo

Shopify Dawn Theme: Display Inventory On Product Page, No App

today i'm going to show you the easiest,way to add your product inventory uh or,your stock level uh onto the product,page on dawn and on other modern shopify,things this is really easy to do if your,product does not have variance like,color or like size,unfortunately it gets pretty complicated,if your product does have variants so i,won't be covering that in today's video,but if that's actually what you're,looking for just leave a comment below,and i'll make that video for you and,like i said this is a tutorial using,dawn which is shopify's new default,theme on shopify online store 2.0 but,you can do the same thing on any theme,that has the custom liquid code block,available on the product page so as you,can see here i am on my product page on,my development store,and i have this line right under the,price that says we have six items,remaining this is a product without any,variance so this is really easy to do,first we're going to add a block,and that block type is going to be,custom liquid okay so this is,a block where you can add custom code,now i'm just going to write test,so that it shows up,here it is at the bottom test,and i'm just going to drag it up,to where i want it to be so like right,under the price,there it is,and i'll just hide my other block right,now,because i'm just going to show you step,by step how to do this,first thing i'm going to do is write,stock or something like that and then,i'm going to add these curly braces like,this,and we're going to write product,dot,variance,dot first,dot inventory,quantity,okay with an underscore,and that will show up our inventory,quantity great so the next thing you,might want to do is add text,to other parts so if you want to put it,in a sentence like mine was,then i would,write something like we have,and then this,code and then items remaining at the end,here,and we can also wrap this in a paragraph,so that it's,neat you know,don't forget the closing tag,all right this is just normal html right,paragraph tags now another thing you,might want to do is,only show it when you're low in stock,on a particular product right,so we can add an if statement,that says,if you have less than five products,then show this otherwise do nothing,so let's do this let's open,a logic block in liquid okay and we're,going to write if,and then here is where we write the,condition,okay and we're going to write,and if,once again in a logic block and if,after,the code that we want to show up,okay,so,and what is our condition the condition,is that this number that we're,outputting,is less than 5 so you can literally,copy this,paste it here,and we're going to write,less than,5,product variance,first inventory quantity is less than 5,show this so as you can see it's,disappeared from here,because we have more than 5. if i had,less than 10,it would reappear,there you go so that's all guys it is,pretty simple,i'll also add this code in the video,description and like i said if you have,a product with variants this won't work,

Planner Sticker Haul: Shopify, Etsy & Erin Condern!

so today we will continue with,our previous session in the previous,session we were designing,website for the salon so in this session,what i'll do is i'll continue with,the other pages last session we designed,the home page now what i'll do is i'll,take the same structure,some components some modules were,designed when i was designing the,home page right so i will try to,make sure or i will try to reuse the,existing components wherever possible,and then create the additional new pages,okay so let's get started,now what i'm designing is the service,page and i have used the components from,the home page itself,and now depending upon the category,you might you know have additional,information on this page,now this one doesn't make sense having,the location here,expert keeping this makes sense right,because people will feel confident right,once they see that oh they have like so,many experts so,you know so so that might be helpful so,we can keep the,additional information that can help the,or basically help to sell these services,testimonials if you want you can keep it,if don't is fine or we can just have the,testimonials and remove the experts,fine and media we can remove and then we,can have this,common footer,so this is a one page one category page,that is basically a service page,and now if i want to create,a detail page service detail page and,i'll just,rename the,page service let's call this as service,detail,or details now you can have this service,name some detail,and then intro copy into that to that,particular service,okay and now you can play around with,different styles and themes,okay so what you can do is you can,have an image a sub heading image and,some text,depending upon what you're planning to,put or what the what content you have or,you can write,okay and you can plan all these things,after having discussion with with the,company the boss or,whoever is managing the product,if you can put like multiple images well,good,okay you can have heading bullet points,or text and bullet points if you want to,highlight something,or if you have some some unique feature,you can create a new style or a template,or a module,like x y z happy customers something,like that,okay if you can put some numbers better,you should try and put,just in order to show that yes you have,successful clients,or something else like in terms of,technology,and if you can put testimonials well you,should try and put,let's remove the testimonial from this,because otherwise there will be too much,of repetition,so we can have testimonial in the so,that is what you need to decide,okay you will have to decide basis the,product or the,website you are working on,and this only you will be able to decide,once you have the understanding and once,once you have defined the storyline okay,now here what i've done is like i have,first introduce the salon,then services then about the founders,then where they are located then who are,the experts and then the happy customers,and also
