so IBM sponsored us down to IBM think,2019 and I'm here walking around in this, veritable sea of next-generation,technology like they've got everything, here from cloud computing to AI to,quantum computing both from IBM and its, partners and then I spot this out of the, corner of my eye now this might not look, unusual at all we've got what like a,motherboard and like a workstation or,something but what you're looking at,here contains tech that at this time is,simply not available from the CPU,company is that most consumers would, think of PCI Express Gen 4 right here so,these systems are running CPUs based on,IBM's,power 9 architecture and what's really, cool is that the hardware for them, basically all of it even even this, motherboard is open source what on earth, does that mean let me let me explain, that,so IBM's power architecture is nothing, new in fact if you bought a Mac back in,the early 2000s you've used it before, but over the last 10 to 15 years it's,gotten some big upgrades and the power, nine processors in our demo rig here are,the same ones in everything from,high-performance Network storage, appliances to literal supercomputers but, what makes them open-source well, the CPUs themselves are not although IBM,actually does allow even CPU hardware, technology to be licensed but it's the, ecosystem around them that is that's,where the open power foundation comes in,so now instead of only being able to get,a power 9 solution from IBM directly you,can get one from half a dozen or so,different manufacturers and what we're,looking at here are examples of ones, that are open in every way so this, motherboard I could just assuming that I,had the means I could just download the, schematics and build one myself it's,crazy even down to the firmware so it's,got these two BIOS chips with actually, this really cool solution so you can, actually flip this little dip switch and, write protect them so that they can't,become corrupted or infected in any way,and I could just I could build the whole, thing and it would be ready to rock and, then I could just run standard software,on it like Linux or FreeBSD so this, system right here is running regular old,Linux and other than the fact that it's,power 9 instead of x86 is every bit as,normal alike workstation or tower server,as you could expect so you got a couple,CPU sockets for up to a total of 44,cores you got 16 memory slots they run,quad-channel memory I mean the thing, that's exceptional about it is how sort,of unexceptional it is it just looks, like a normal motherboard you've even, got just like a standard Radeon Pro,workstation graphics card in here x5,sound card of all things and PCI Express, slots I mean their Gen 4 that's cool but, like yeah us USB header, normal friggin thing like could I just, like run video games on this thing,hi prince gaming keyboard and mouse on,here nice I like it,keeping it classy right enterprise show, this is what like a quake arena style oh,my god this mouse is so sensitive is,this a shotgun oh god

why look at you you're nothing but Skin, and Bones come sit down let me hand feed, you a healthy helping of tech news now,100 sugar-free Intel has partnered with, chip giant Media Tech in an effort to,close the gap on manufacturing Rivals,Intel Foundry services will manufacture, chips for medical devices industrial,Computing and more as they invest over,40 billion dollars building new, fabrication plants around the world the, aggressive play is in line with Intel,CEO Pat gelsinger's pledge to make The,Foundry business a key priority in the, face of stiff competition from the likes,of tsmc and Samsung who now account for, over 70 percent of global Foundry, production it's really heartwarming to,see two small companies that are worth, only a couple hundred billion dollars, each come together to take on the big, guys last year Intel announced it would, build trips for Qualcomm as it launched, its Foundry play and it hopes to catch,up to its rivals in the Asia region, sometime in the 2025 time frame, meanwhile the U.S Senate readies itself,to potentially pass the chips act, offering up to 52 billion in subsidies,to Makers who design and manufacture, their own chips by suddenly hungry I'm,wearing cheesy guys security researchers,at Kaspersky have discovered what, appears to be a root kit in Asus and, gigabyte motherboards running Intel 8th,gen chips nicknamed Cosmic strand this, isn't a new strain of ultra potent, marijuana but rather a malicious piece,of code which runs during the low-level,UEFI startup when you first power on,your machine not as good the root kit, embeds a series of nasty hooks into, startup processes in order to gain, access to a target's machine and since,it's embedded in the low-level firmware,it can persist there even after a clean, install,it's like a monkey pox rash you can't,just scrub it clean, analysis and comparisons to similar code, patterns from crypto mining bot my Kings, has led researchers to believe that,Cosmic strand is connected to a,chinese-speaking individual and it's,thought to have been circulating in the, wild since 2016. that's right they've,got your entire depraved search history, stored on a server somewhere, but then again Google and Facebook have, had that for years now do something new, hackers,Amazon is hiking the prices of its Prime, subscription service across Europe, amidst a rising tide of inflation the, company announced that customers in the,UK would see a 20 jump in their annual, subscription fees while Germans can, expect to pay 30 percent more what did,the Germans ever do,and those in France will see a,staggering 43 increase though In,fairness France kind of had it coming, sorry France snails are not a delicacy, and I haven't forgiven you yet for, exporting that idea, the move follows a similar price, increase in the U.S in February where,American customers saw their yearly, memberships bumped up to 139 dollars, from 119. Amazon CEO Andy jassy I mean, how am I going to get used to that, referenced higher costs driven by,inflation and supply

History of the Motherboard
History of the Motherboard
thanks for watching tech quickie click, the subscribe button then enable, notifications with the Bell icon so you, won't miss any future videos these days, just adding a CPU a stick of RAM a,storage device and a power supply to a,mini ITX motherboard will give you a,small and fully functional computer in a,matter of minutes and this is possible, because of how many different functions, the average motherboard combines into, one little slab of like fiberglass metal, and silicon but it wasn't always like, this,in fact early electronics didn't have, anything resembling the lovely green, boards with black integrated circuits, that were used to today instead it was, common to see individual full sized, wires linking every capacitor resistor, and other component necessary to make up,a full computer system unsurprisingly, this approach took up tons of space, added a bunch of weight and was, relatively fragile meaning that the, printed circuit board took off in,popularity pretty quickly starting in,the 1950s it should be noted however, that these early PCBs were still a far,cry from the RGB motherboard that you, might have sitting in your computer, right now while back then a simple, device like a radio might have gotten, away with using just one PCB,full-fledged computers needed many, circuit boards to handle different, functions connected by a backplane that, you might consider to be a forerunner of,the modern motherboard unlike true, motherboards though these back planes, tended to be dumb connections with no,actual logic that consisted of little, more than a bunch of slots lined up in a,row so that other expansion cards could,be plugged in for example the Altair,8800 used one slot to insert a processor, another for memory and so on,it wasn't until 1981 that we got a big, upgrade the planar board in the original,IBM PC featured an Intel 8088 CPU built,in memory and actual external IO so it,was far more than just a glorified, bundle of wire, like smooshed together all you could, connect directly to it was a keyboard, and a cassette drive but it also, included a handful of expansion slots, that didn't look too different from what,we're used to today and those slots were, important because motherboards were, still so simple that they didn't have, features that we consider basic now like, drive headers for example so if you, wanted to load up your copy of flight, simulator 1.0 you would need a,standalone disk interface card and we,didn't see modern memory modules that, fit into RAM slots until the mid-1980s,either by the late 80s though engineers, had fully embraced the goal of,integrating more and more functions onto, the motherboard and so little ICS called, super i/o chips were becoming more, common these functioned like rudimentary, versions of a modern chipset they, provided drive controllers ports for, printers mice keyboards and other, devices and the systems bios now that, all doesn't sound like a huge deal today, but super i/o chips took up less space, and they were much more cost effective, than expan

How Motherboards Work - Turbo Nerd Edition
How Motherboards Work - Turbo Nerd Edition
- This heatsink right here, pointless.,Four Ram slots, you only need two of them.,And why is there a PCI
express slot that has SLI?,No one uses it.,Why the heck does
everybody want all of this?,It's because nobody actually
knows what motherboards are,and how they work.,So here it is,,to the best of our ability,
how motherboards work.,So buckle up nerds, Linus is on vacation, and we're not holding back.,Just like I can't hold it back
this segue to our sponsor,,I fix it.,You like to repair your
own electronics instead,of having to spend hundreds
on expensive replacement,or a pair of services, learn more about,I fix it's essential electronics toolkit,at the end of this video.,(upbeat music),- Computer power supplies output 12 volts.,If you apply 12 volts to a CPU,it looks something like this.,Suboptimal, for sure.,(chuckles) Suboptimal for sure.,To avoid the magic smoke,,we need to take that 12 volts, and step it down to something
more like 1.2 volts.,And this is exactly the job
of voltage regulation modules, the VRMs that overClockers
talk about so much.,The basic circuit consists of two MOSFETs,which in this situation are
basically just fancy switches,,an inductor and a diode.,This first switch closes which
then charges this inductor, converting the electricity
into a magnetic field.,The voltage of the CPU gets, depends on how long the switch is closed, but the instant it is opened,
the voltage to the CPU,begins to drop kinda like a drain.,So this is where that diode
here is very important.,If both switches are open
while the inductor is charged,it's magnetic field will
collapse and pop goes your CPU,but the diode is highly inefficient.,So it's important to get the
second switch closed as soon,as possible to avoid creating
any unnecessary heat.,If you're paying attention, you might have noticed
a problem here though.,Although the voltage will be bouncing, around what the CPU is asking for.,There are a lot of spikes,
not great for stability, and there are two ways to remove this.,The first is to just increase
how fast the MOSFET switches,on motherboards.,This is normally done at
about 300,000 times per second, but even then the voltage
can fluctuate more, than the CPU wants.,And it isn't practical to try, switching a whole lot faster than that.,Every single time the
MOSFET switches on or off,it generates a bit of heat, and above about 150 degrees Celsius.,The MOSFET's gonna die.,So if we want cleaner power,
we don't need faster MOSFETs,,we need more of them.,The circuit we have here
represents a single phase sun.,Another term that overclockers
love to use so much.,So by adding another phase, we can roughly, double how clean our
power is with the benefits,of additional phases,
scaling, roughly linearly.,From there, the number of phases,in your motherboard is normally shown,as a number like eight plus
two, which means eight phases, for the CPU and two dedicated for the RAM.,Let me put this away.,Multiple phases also have another benefit.,Say you're a CPU requires
a

How to build a computer
How to build a computer
what's up guys Jays two cents here and,we need to build a new computer we are, gonna build ourselves the ultimate 9900,Kay editing rig so we've teamed up with,MSI to show you how to build it so these, are the parts that we've chosen for our, onion 100k build and again a huge thank, you to MSI for sponsoring today's video, now the main part of this and, everything's gonna attach to is our m EG,z 390 god like this is their flagship z,390 motherboard it has all the features,we need to unlock all of the features of,our 9900 k it's overclockable expandable, and even has a live streaming capture, card that comes with it as well as an,MDOT 2 expansion card that can plug into, your PCI Express Lanes giving you a,total of five nvme m2 drives on this so,that's amazing when it comes to a,motherboard for a graphics card we've,also chosen the msi RT X xx atti trio, this is a custom PCB overclocking, friendly xx atti that's gonna give our, gaming performance as well as our, rendering performance a huge boost now,as mentioned we've got our 9900 K we,will be overclocking this because you, know overclocking you might be asking, yourself why we chose a 9900 K for an,editing rig when there's X 299 a much, higher core count CPUs out there well, that is because of quick sync this has, something called quick sync which means, premiere can actually leverage the, internal GPU in this chip as well as our,GPU on top of all the other core you, know workout that's happening during, premiere to give us a huge edge when it,comes to rendering speeds so we saw a,huge improvement with the 9900 K in our, small form-factor build when we enabled,Hardware encoding and it was a huge, boost versus not using it at all even, with having a GPU so that's why we're,using that now in terms of power supply,I am using my RM 850 this is a Corsair a,power supply we're using a custom sleeve, cable set for that to make it look good, obviously I mean this is a little bit of,an extreme build we want it to look as,good as possible because it's a,showpiece as well as a regular desktop,PC now we've got here some very special, edition Corsair ram this is the,Dominator platinum it's actually the, black and orange with, the burnt tops but I switched the silver, tops back on this making this more of a,one-on-one custom one-off as a lot of,ones in their RAM for this build because,we are using our be quiet silent bass,801 case which is also black and orange,so this is gonna tie in a bit of a theme, there, speaking of case obviously we like I say,we're using the silent based 801 it's a,full tower case it's gonna fit our, motherboard our graphics cards and we,have plenty of expansion availability on,there when it comes to hard drives want,to add more spinning storage to keep our,CPU cool we're using the NZXT kraken X,72 this is a 360 millimeter a i/o water, cooler which is going to be easy to,service because this is a rendering, system we're not doing custom loop or,rigid tubes or anything like that, because ease of maintenance and working,on th

What makes X670E "EXTREME"? AM5 Chipsets Explained (featuring Aorus!)
What makes X670E "EXTREME"? AM5 Chipsets Explained (featuring Aorus!)
AMD ryzen 7000 series CPUs actually go,up for sale today all the reviews went,up starting yesterday and today I had a,choice for the video I was going to make,I could either continue to stare, listlessly ahead as I run Benchmark, after Benchmark to supplement my initial,7950x review or I could try to do,something else and I've been wanting to,focus on the motherboards versus the,CPUs because there are now four chipsets,to choose from on the am5 platform not, just x670 and x670e that are launched as,of now but also b650 and b650e that are, launching in October at the same time my,friends over at gigabyte said hey Paul,we have a massive Media Kit to send you,and we'd love to sponsor an unboxing, video and have you check out our debut,am5 motherboard so I said that sounds, great I'm going to do that instead of,staring listlessly at the benchmarking, screen I can pick that up again tomorrow, today let's find out about the quartet,of chipsets available on the new, platform and also find out what gigabyte, has in store with their new aorus am5,motherboards,excellent so amb's new platform is am5,and that term is typically used to refer,to both the socket as well as the, overall platform there are some changes, this time around for example it's an LGA,socket this time so the pins are, actually on the motherboard rather than,on the CPU itself there's more power, delivery available with up to 230 watts,of socket power and we have support for,ddr5 as well as pcie 5.0 also backwards, compatibility with am4 coolers which, does ease the upgrade path a little bit,for anyone who's already invested in a,nice cooler now a specific thing that,I've pointed out and will continue to,point out is that AMD has promised, platform support through 2025 and when, they originally launched am4 back in,2016 they said they were going to,support that through 2020 and they, actually extended that through 2022. so,I really like this because it provides,an upgrade path for home builders and a,little bit more confidence that you will,be able to upgrade your system down the, line as new hardware launches and then, one other tidbit from amd's Keynotes is,they say motherboard should start at 125,US Dollars and that's probably going to,be the B series chipset other boards, that are launching next month but on,that note let's get into the tutorial, part of this video which is that there, are four chipsets for this platform x670,extreme x670 b650 extreme and b650 what,is the differences between them should, you save some money with the B series, chipsets and wait till October or should, you drop your cash on an x-series,chipset right now so we'll start with a,nice chart from this and antec article, which I will link in the description and,if you're not concerned with IO these, are the main differences between the, chipsets io is a big difference as well, and we'll get to that in just a moment, but note everything that's the same you, have memory overclocking support and CPU,overclocking support across the board, you're go

ASUS Z690 Motherboards Preview - First Look at 7 new Intel LGA 1700 Motherboards
ASUS Z690 Motherboards Preview - First Look at 7 new Intel LGA 1700 Motherboards
so intel's new alder lake cpus are just, around the corner and today we can, finally start looking at some of the, motherboards that will come with these, processors because yes,you will need a new motherboard for, these new chips now unfortunately i'm,not really allowed to talk about, anything that is performance related in,any way so today i wanted to focus more,on the overall feature sets that these, asus motherboards have to offer talk, about what's new in this generation, what sets them apart from each other and, just basically figure out which, motherboard will make the most sense for,you but first this video is brought to,you by seasonic and their prime series, power supplies these top quality power, supplies are very efficient they are, whisper quiet extremely reliable and my,go-to choice for most of my test rigs, and builds around here and to make the, deal even sweeter seasonic wraps it all,up in a cozy 12 year long warranty check, them out using the links in the, description below, the two big feature upgrades that older, lake cpus will bring to this new, generation of motherboards are the, support for ddr5 memory and the pcie gen,5 support now the ddr5 ram should grant, some performance improvements over the,ddr4 and even though most boards will, focus on this ddr5 there will be some,ddr4 boards available as well for those,of you that don't want to upgrade your, memory kits just yet and while the pci, agent 5 support isn't something that you, need to worry about right now because, well all current gpus don't really make, use of it and the first pci gen 5 ssds, will not be launched till next year it,is nice to know that your pc will be,ready for that when that happens,i have seven different models right here, and i'm gonna start with the most basic, one the tough gaming z690 plus d4 board, and the d4 at the end of the name, indicates that this motherboard supports,ddr4 memory unlike the other six that, will only support ddr5 although i do,expect there will be a ddr5 version of,this as well and it will also offer no,gen 5 ssd support which is technically, not a big deal just yet but the first, pcie slot is gen 5 ready now even though, this is the most entry level model i,have to admit that with each generation, the visuals have improved a lot now they, drop most of those old bright yellow, accents for something that is more, neutral and that would fit most systems, out there i actually quite like this, simple design it is not over the top it,looks like a solid board and it,definitely doesn't look like a cheap one,if you want a lot of rgb this is not a,motherboard for you i also think calling, this an entry level board isn't,completely accurate considering all the, features you do get, usually entry-level boards have limited,m2 slots while this one right here, offers a total of four pci agent four, ssd slots with three of them having a,proper heatsink also all of the ssd, slots do come with one of the best and, biggest quality of life improvements, that asus is bringing to this whole, gene
