Product filtering in Shopify is easy! (Development tutorial)

foreign, what's up YouTube Welcome Back to,another edition of coding with Robbie,I'm your host Robbie and in this video,we're going to be covering filtering and,Shopify so this has been a highly, requested video and one that I've kind,of been dodging because I don't like, filtering in Shopify it's never been fun,and it's always been kind of kind of,weak in what they allow you to do up,until recently so they recently expanded, upon it and it's a whole lot better now,so I'm going to show you the Legacy way, that it was done and then I'm going to,show you the new way that it's done and,uh I hope you like this video so make, sure to like subscribe leave a comment, and we'll get into it right now all, right so real quick I'm going to show, you the old school way of filtering and, this is just for informational purposes,it's not recommended anymore but right, here I got a basic collection page and,I'm just on slash collection slash all,and yes I want to filter this list uh,you can only do it on tags so say I,wanted products tagged with shirt I,would just add slash shirt to the URL,and now I got all the products tagged, with shirt and say I want products, tagged with shirt and also men I could, add Plus Men,and now I got shirts uh that are tagged, with shirt and also men and that's all,you could do there's no way to add any, logic to it or do anything more advanced,so say I wanted save products that are, either blue or red it's impossible to do,it there's no way to do or uh with this, method,so this is how filtering was for years,in Shopify probably 10 years up until, recently, and uh yeah in the past he had to depend,on third-party apps and there's a bunch,of them and they kind of just gave you a,big monstrosity of a page that was hard,to customize and they often wouldn't,work with other third-party apps so I,wouldn't recommend using any of those, and um yeah you'd basically just build,an interface that would modify the URL,and redirect the user,um but yeah they completely kind of,reworked filtering as of recently and,it's a whole lot better now there's a,whole new language you can add to the,URL or you can do less than greater than, this that is a lot better and they added,an app that kind of AIDS with it so we,have the Shopify search and Discovery, app and it's super easy to use and yeah,I'm going to show you how to use it,right now so let's go alright so good, news guys the new filtering method is,much easier to use and uh significantly, better so I'll link this page in the, video description but here's the, documentation page for storefront, filtering and if you scroll down on this, page they give you a big snippet right, here and we can actually just copy this, entire snippet,so let's go ahead and grab that, and then we can add this to our, collection template so let's go in vs,code and uh I'm on my collection, template I'm just going to paste it,right below my sorting select box, right there hit save and now we're ready,to use the search and uh what do they, call it search and Disc

How To Benchmark Your Top Performing Pages on Shopify

How To Benchmark Your Top Performing Pages on Shopify

hello Shopify enthusiasts welcome back,to another video and in today's video, what we're gonna be talking about is,doing a phase 2 audit is to SEO audit on,a Shopify store okay this is probably my,all-time favorite part of the audit, there's only four parts part two is my,favorite and the reason why it's my,favorite is because we get to see, exactly which pages of a website are, performing the best what keywords those, pages are ranking for we get to see, things like version rates time spent on,page a whole lot of good stuff and after,we benchmark this data we can go in and,fix up those pages and further optimize, those pages for different keywords if we,wanted to so let's get down to the meat, and potatoes so today we're going to be,doing in the phase two audit on FS,performance engineering let's get to it,I'm excited to get into this because,we've had Google Analytics and search, console set up on this website for a,little bit now we've got some good data,to work with and we've got everything, ready to go so first step is we're gonna, pull up screaming frog and if you don't,have screaming frog that's okay you, could just watch me do it so what we're,gonna pull up is the API configuration, for Google Analytics first and the, account the properties FS performance, engineering okay and for the date range, let's go back a year, okay and metrics are fine dimensions are, fine and that's good, okay that's set up now for the search, console let's go ahead and set that up,Nik,okay FS performance engineering, and for the date range, back year, and this is fine this is fine, okay and last but not least let's,connect each refs neck, and it okay alright, and after all of those have been, connected we're going to start our CRO,after I've done my screaming frog crawl,I pretty much paste it into this Phase, two template it's like the same thing, with some extra columns up here in the, front which I'm gonna explain in a,second now what I need to do real quick,is just drag a couple of these columns, over here for example the amount of,Google Analytics sessions Google,Analytics bounce rate gold conversions, average session duration just a bunch of,those so let me do that real quick and,we'll continue,we have here is the most important, metrics and you can look at a lot more, too but we've got the average session, duration which for this we're looking at,greater than two minutes be a good, metric,so what we have here,is pretty much all the important metrics, from Google Analytics and,we will search console and I've tried to,get this formatting as good as possible, but it's just not working out perfectly, for me right now so what I'm gonna do,now is,organize this from the greatest amount,of sessions to the least amount of time, remember we've only had Google Analytics, set up for the last week or so we have, way more search console data but for, analytics you know we're only working, with like a week's worth of data so,we're gonna try to go off that but we're,definitely going to do another benchmark,in anoth

RailsConf 2019 - Rails Security at Scale by Jack McCracken

RailsConf 2019 - Rails Security at Scale by Jack McCracken

all right,hi everyone um so i'm jack mccracken i,work at shopify, and today we're going to talk a little, bit about how we manage security in one,of the largest rails apps in the world,so first off a little bit about me um,they took this photo with a little bit,of a low resolution camera so you know,i'm sorry about that but uh i love, puzzles i love crosswords,i'm big into baking these are just two, kind of things that i get my mind off, software with and, most importantly i love security i love, making sure that, every single one of shopify's merchants,is secure, and like does not need to worry about, their, platform security and just gets to do,what makes them awesome,so first off uh what is shopify so,shopify,is like a multi-channel ecommerce, platform which is super fancy words for, whenever you want to sell something, shopify will let you sell it,wherever so if your customers are on,instagram we sell on instagram if your, customers are on facebook we sell on,facebook, okay so a little bit of context on what,we're dealing with here,so shopify the main application, deploys about 40 changes to production, per day,in 2017 and it has,one we have one we had 1 900 employees,we had 375 000 merchants and 80 000 peak, requests per second,so the the joke at shopify is that we,double every year, but um i'm going to show you that it,slightly outpaced that so,this year this is a year and a half, after that presentation,we deploy 150 changes to the core, product we have 4 000 employees,100 1 500 of which are solely in r d,800 000 merchants and 170 000,peak requests per second so what that, means to me,is that our two main customer bases as a,security team, the employees the people who need to,employ safe changes, and the merchants the people who need to,use those safe changes, have both doubled or tripled in the past, year and a half so,that kind of leaves me feeling a little, bit like this i'm freaked out,i joined in 2017 when that uh when those, numbers earlier were accurate, and at that point i was like oh my god, there's like a thousand people working,on this product how the heck can 10,people,secure this thing how can we make sure, that every merchant that uses shopify, has a good experience and doesn't like, feel like we're insecure or,experience god forbid any data breach, problems,so how do we prioritize these things,it turns out it's just straight up,impossible for 10 people to police the, actions of 1 000 people,it's just not a thing you can do so you, need to be you need to build it into, your culture, you need to make sure that every single, developer your company is aware that, their changes impact 800 000 merchants,or a million users or however many, people, use your application these are real, people you need to make sure that those, things, are embedded in your culture and you, need to make sure that they don't,like they don't,like forget those things so,other thing we do is we use robots a lot,of robots hopefully better robots than, these robots,um i like to break down what we do,into t

Smokeless Fire Pit with a twist! // Camphouse Shed Build Part 6

Smokeless Fire Pit with a twist! // Camphouse Shed Build Part 6

up till now the camp house shed hasn't,really been living up to its name so I,fixed that by building a smokeless fire, pit then I take it a step further by,cleverly mounting a flat screen TV to,watch some college football by the fire, this blending of ancestral TV,Technologies is sure to make even the, coldest Ohio day a little bit more, bearable, say that the weather has been crappy for,the past couple weeks would be kind of,an understatement it's been unseasonably, cold we haven't got snow once or twice,we've got it three times just in the, past couple weeks which means that, unfortunately progress on the shed has, come to a screeching halt during that, time and getting work done on a metal, roof when it's wet and at times icy is,kind of a deal breaker for me but there, are plenty of things that we can do that, don't involve me getting up on the roof, and one of those things is the fire pit,you see it wouldn't be much of a camp, house without a campfire so let's go,pick a spot and put a fire pit there, this process started with some very, meticulous calculations to triangulate, the best possible spot yeah or how about, right here now you may notice it's not, perfectly centered with the shed and, that's because it's centered with the, overhanging branches because remember, only we can prevent forest fires I then, dug out a circle about one foot wider, than I would need to prepare for the, drainage and foundation of the fire pit, stone ring, and I figured I might as well use the, dirt to build up the area on this side,of the shed that's eventually going to,be used to store the firewood I then dug,out the center section to help with, drainage or at least that's what I'm,going for remember I have no idea what,I'm doing,I then filled that Center section with a,couple bags of River Rocks before trying,to get the outer ring kind of flat and, roughly level, and trust me I can fully appreciate the, irony in me spending so much time on,this little fire pit Foundation after, basically ignoring the actual shed,Foundation prep altogether next up was,pea gravel as a mid layer across the, whole area again seemed like a good idea, not sure if that's actually going to do,anything but I guess we'll see my,thought here is that I didn't want this, fire pit to turn into a bird bath after,a rainstorm so I'm trying to allow for,as much drainage as possible, then I just got the gravel layer roughly, level I figured I didn't need it to be,exact quite yet,and finally for the top layer I'm,putting down about an inch of paver base, this stuff compacts really well and I,believe should make a nice stable, foundation on which my fire pit ring can, stand, now it's time to add my stones and I,landed on these tumbled Allegheny Stones,I picked up at Lowe's now they do sell a,fire pit kit but I just didn't really, like how the stones look that came with,it so I went this route but the kit is,actually pretty affordable if you like, the look I then laid out a ring of,stones to match the internal diameter of,what I needed and

Was Solidus Snake Really A Villain? Character Analysis

Was Solidus Snake Really A Villain? Character Analysis

George Sears or should I say solid a,snake is not a man without sin during, his life he was involved in some, monstrous things be it mind breaking, children establishing a crew of child, soldiers or you know orchestrating the, entire shadow moses incident but this, all being said solidus is a man with, strong morals about freedoms and liberty,he was a man tired of his corrupt, government and its secret and he decided,to take action he wasn't a good person, but he was a true patriot, born in 1972 through a cellular cloning, project called Les Enfants terrible's he,never did like the French the terrible, children's project solidus was a perfect, genetic clone of big boss copying the, data they gathered from solid and liquid, they figured out the perfect genetic, match for the perfect soldier gene or,the perfect soldier DNA this explains, why he's named solidus because solidus,is the point in temperature in which an,object shifts between salt and liquid it,also has to do with the fact that, solidus is the name of the coins that, soldiers were paid in Aldous would go on,to be tested in a civil war the first, civil war of Liberia which takes place, between 1989 and 1996 which means that, solidus was about 16 to 24 at the time, but he came off appearing much older, than that this is due to him suffering, from a much more accelerated aging,fail-safe that was used on all the, terrible children clones causing him to,age much faster than solid or liquid, ever had to worry about another fallback,of this being a clone that is when, solidus was unable to have children, during the war both due to his desire to,test the hypothesis on whether he could, shape someone out of ideals alone and,his desire to have a successor to,himself just in case he were to die, during the war solidus killed a young,Liberian child parent and then adopted, him he named this child Jack and taught, him many things such as being ruthless,in his killing learning to lead an army, and how to honour a blade amongst, anything else he also during the, training of his child soldier unit, brought Jack in and had him injected, with a serum used on soldiers during the,Gulf War this was a very basic version,of the perfect soldier serum Jack then, went on to be one of the most successful, child soldiers earning the name the, white devil and Jack the Ripper though, after the conflict had ended Jack and, solidus were separated but they wouldn't,remain separated forever after proving, himself as a shadow government called, the claw lela lela that he was a,competent leader at la Lalah Lalah sune, trusted solidus with the White House and,the presidency of the United States in,the early 2000 during this time Saudis, learned that not only he was absent from, freedom Athiya student prior to his, involvement with la lela lela but the, whole united states was under complete, media control during his run as,president solidus was involved in two, major historical events one of these, events being his creation of dead, and another one being biggest his push, for s

Mktg2032 Ondemand Week09

thank you, welcome to week nine it is markets and, marketplaces you know the drill let's,get on to it what we're interested in,making certain we're covering this week,is that we are checking in on key, theories, that we are thinking as we are working, our way through this not just how can I,use it but how would I describe it from,a marketing perspective, and this is the week in which, distribution Theory gets its very own, application set as we look at how you, would use an intermediary as a platform, for Distributing your product to your, audience, now one of the things I will say is that,if you set out to use Etsy or eBay or,depop or one of the smaller brokerages, then that has implications throughout, this section, also we have a number of other elements,we've talked about in different sections,so red bubble and bandcamp would equally, show up as markets and marketplaces,it's important to think about,e-marketing in terms of sometimes we'll,use a case example because it's got a,really good illustrative point but that, doesn't mean that it is just isolated to,that section,we teach in incremental blocks but, reality works as a heavily cross-wired,medium,theories of notes and things you want to,be thinking about, because it's a market therefore there is,a distribution Channel involved, therefore we are looking at distribution, theory that opens up Siva in terms of,access but also can open up,Siva in terms of information, how do I learn about the product that I,want to use can I learn about it through, the marketplace where I'm going to,purchase it from,we also open up positioning strategies, when we start thinking about the way in,which distribution and when we're,looking at a platform like eBay where, there are subcategories where we're,looking at Etsy where there are, subcategories and you can position, within a category against competitive, alternatives,we open up retail in theory because we,start thinking about how does a market, space, get to borrow from theories that, describe how physical world environments, work so we can start thinking about, retail clustering from an internet, perspective of do you set yourself out,on your own website and run your own,Shopify account with a PayPal,transaction cart or do you join up to,one of the bigger brokerages and work, where you know there's more competition, but equally there's more traffic,so markets and marketplaces are also an,area where,it's important to consider that well, historically the internet was supposed,to replace the intermediary, the idea was we would go to that flat, distribution of Direct Customer to,manufacturer, turned out not to be as practical as,previously imagined and it was pretty, imaginary when it started, what happened is that the internet gave, rise to the super intermediary,amazon.com,is an intermediary it is a wholesaler, retailer manufacturer brokerage,it is a giant monstrosity it's also an,evil entity and it should pay its, workers better and it is,proof that Humanity needs an upgrade, patch because we shouldn't
