hi this is Kim from Shopify this,screencast gonna have a quick look at,snippets in many ways snippets are the,opposite of the layout file we're in the,layout file had all of our declarations,are HTML our doctype our headers are,links to CSS files in javascript maybe,the sidebar footers all that kind of,thing a snippets working the same way in,fact they are a file that allows you to,have code that can be reused across the,site but they tend to be much smaller,smaller chunks of reusable code so a,good example might be something like a,pagination block or maybe a email,newsletter signup form that you don't,want to cross the whole site but you,just want to have that one piece of code,you can inject into one or two templates,so they work in the same way in as much,as if you change it here they will,change across the site but as I say they,are much smaller or tend to be much,smaller pieces of code if you want to,create a snippet in your theme you can,do that online using the online editor,just click add new snippet and you can,give it a name so let's just call this,new and it will be created and it will,be available to start adding in your,code you'll see that they have the dot,liquid extension just like all our,templates up here in the templates,folder and as I said earlier they do,live in these snippets folder if you're,working locally you can simply create,that folder if you haven't already and,then just create those files as you,would but just ensure that they do have,the dot liquid extension so how do they,work well very very simple all you need,to do is open up some liquid code I'm,going to do the curly bracket percentage,type the word include open up some,quotes and then put the name of the,snippet without the dot liquid extension,so I have one I made earlier called,headline it's simply got a an h1 heading,in there with some text in the middle so,I'm just going to type headline yes I,was right there we go and I'm going to,do ctrl s to say which you can do in the,editor if you weren't aware of that and,we're going to click across to my store,make sure I'm on the home page I am and,give it a refresh and you'll see that,that heading has been injected now if,that was included on a bunch of,different templates and I changed it,over here,and I went back and refresh the page,rather I changed it in the snippet all,of those pages will be updated so as I,said earlier they're kind of like,layouts in the sense that it allows you,to change something globally but they,tend to be much smaller pieces of code,so that's a very very very simple,example what if we wanted to go a little,bit more complex well you can you can do,a lot with snippets and what they really,come into their own when you can pass,data into them now,what I've got set up here is a snippet,or collection listing liquid and what,that allows us to do is output a,collection in a list in an unordered,list and it will reference the the URL,of the product that we're looping over,within that collection

If you want to create  drop-down menus for your store,  ,but aren’t sure where to  start, then keep watching.,If you haven't set up your  header and footer menus,  ,then watch the previous video  in this series to learn how.  ,You’ll need to have your header menu set  up before you follow along with this video. ,Drop-down menus are used to organize products,  collections, and pages in the main menu of your  ,online store. This type of organization makes  it easier for customers to navigate your online  ,store, and quickly find what they’re looking for. Drop down menus are made up of top level menu  ,items, and nested menu items. Top level menu items appear in  ,the main menu of your store, and nested  menu items appear in a dropdown menu. ,You can have up to two levels of nested  menu items within a top level menu item.,In this example, one of the  top level menu items is Shop.  ,Shop has four, first level nested items within  it. Shop all, Tops, Bottoms, and Outdoor. ,Everything nested under those first level  items, make up the second level of nested items. ,Let’s create a first level nested menu item now.,In this example, I’ll start  with the Equipment menu item,  ,and nest the collections for Fitness Trackers,  Yoga Equipment and Water bottles under it.,Start in the Shopify admin. From your Shopify  admin, click Online Store. Then, click Navigation,  ,and then, Main Menu.,If you haven't created the menu item that  you want to nest, then click Add menu item,  ,give the menu item a name, and link  it to an existing collection or page.,For full instructions on adding menu items,  watch the first video in this series.,To begin the nesting process, first, I  grab the icon next to Fitness Trackers,  ,and drag it up, and to the right, under Equipment.,When you drag a menu item to the right, it nests  it under the previous, or top-level menu item.  ,You know that the menu item  is nested correctly because  ,it’s offset from the rest of the menu items. ,Now I’ll do the same for the Yoga  Equipment and Water bottles menu items. ,To see what the nested menu  looks like on your online store,  ,click Save. Then click the  eye icon next to Online Store. ,Now let's create a second level nested item. ,In this example I’m going to  take the collection,”Yoga mats”  ,and nest it under “Yoga Equipment” making  it a second level drop down menu item. ,I’ll do this by clicking and holding the six  dot icon next to “Yoga mats”, and moving it  ,under and to the right of the Yoga equipment menu  item. hi everyone and welcome back to 20,minute mark Ian as always hope you're,all having a great day today gonna get,started straight away and introduce you,to today's guest so today's guest is,Laura hi Laura oh yeah how are you doing,today yeah really well thank you good,good,could you just give us about 30 seconds,to a minute introduction on yourself who,you are etc yeah so my name's Laura,Hogan and I've been doing SEO and,digital marketing for almost 10 years,now as you can probably tell from the,twang I'm a born and bred woman and I,own an agency called jelly bean and,that's based in Birmingham and we full,service digital marketing agency yes so,we're gonna get involved straightaway,and talk about Google Ads maybe a little,bit on SEO but try and keep it,specifically on paid ads so we're just,gonna have a little bit of a chat about,Google Ads specifically just to give you,sort of a background on this episode I,came across Laura's speech actually up,search leads which is the probably one,of the biggest events in the north for a,digital marketing Laura touched on,competitive bidding specifically it was,really engaged in talk so I wanted to,find out a little bit more from her and,share her findings with the audience,and our listeners so could you just go,into that a little bit in detail more,about how competitive bidding works and,the value they add yeah definitely so I,think this with competitive bidding,there seems to be people are either,really for it or really against it does,the old saying about you know glass,houses and throwing stones and obviously,sometimes your competitors will have a,higher Adwords or Bing budget than you,do but my opinion on it has always been,that there's ways to advertise on your,competitors and to advertise to their,audience without directly doing a search,ad on Adwords or on bing that's got,their name in it I've seen brands do it,I've run it,for brands it does work you standardly,have a lower click-through right when,you bid directly on competitor brand,names but we do it we like to look at,the smart ways of doing it so one of my,favorite ways of competitive bidding,with AdWords is to use Gmail advertising,so with Gmail app for Tizen you can,specify specific keywords that if the,regime I'll recipient has received,emails that contain those keywords that,cannot view and to trigger so we quite,often do this for competitors and we'll,run the competitors names as the,keywords on Gmail ads because you know,that these guys who are receiving these,emails from competitors are actually,interested in your product or service so,you know that there's they're not,necessarily gonna be completely top of,the funnel when that when they're coming,to you with it and we've also done it,for events as well which works quite,nicely so if you know that your audience,is going to be a specific event,naturally events send out emails to,their list engage them to make sure that,they attend so that's a nice way of,doing it too with kind of like a,com
