hi,i'm erin merch from 2h media in this,video we're going to take a look at how,to create amazing product stories in,shopify's online store 2.0,to proceed you're going to need to have,a basic understanding of meta fields as,well as the shopify customizer so if any,of that sounds intimidating check out,some of our other videos before diving,into this one from the product page if i,scroll down to meta fields and click,view all,you'll see that i've preemptively,created several meta fields which we're,going to use throughout this video check,the video description for a complete,list of meta fields and a brief,explanation of what's going on with each,of them with that out of the way let's,head to online store customize and get,started from the customizer click the,dropdown at the top of the screen and,select product create template,when the modal appears enter a name for,your new template and click create,template,in this case we're calling our template,product with story,when the product page loads in make sure,you're previewing a product that,actually has some meta field values,to change which product is being used,for the preview click change in the,upper left hand corner of the screen,after clicking change select the desired,product from the menu on the right hand,side of the screen with the correct,product selected we can get to work,building our product story,on the left hand side of the screen,click add section and select image,banner,once the image banner loads in click the,dynamic source icon in the top right,hand corner of the screen a list of,available meta fields will appear on the,right-hand side of the screen,in this case we have labeled all of our,meta fields based on how they're going,to be used in the product story since,this is the first image in the product,story we're going to select feature 1,image,after selecting the desired meta field,click connect in the bottom right hand,corner of the screen for the purpose of,this example we're going to leave most,of the image banner settings alone,select your image banner's heading on,the left hand side of the screen and,once again click the dynamic content,icon on the top right hand corner of the,screen,once again our clearly labeled meta,fields make it easy for us to link the,desired data,in this case we're going to click,feature 1 title and select insert,make sure to clear the unwanted,placeholder text from your title and,let's move on to the description,click your image banner's text block on,the left hand side of the screen,in the top right hand corner of the,screen highlight the placeholder text,and then click the dynamic content icon,in this example we're selecting the,feature one description meta field,we aren't planning on using dynamic,content for the image banners buttons so,in this case we're just going to select,that block from the left hand menu and,then remove it in the bottom right hand,corner of the screen,with our image banner complete we can,move on to the next section of

hi guys so the video you're about to,watch is actually a clip taken from one,of my recent videos in which i gave sort,of an overview and my review of every,single free shopify theme on shopify's,theme store so if you guys are just,first right now getting started choosing,a theme for your shopify store,i'd recommend you guys go check out that,video it gives a pretty good overview of,what the different pros and cons of each,theme is and like what your choices are,as far as themes go so i'll leave a link,to that down in the description of this,video,and i'll also link to it at the end of,this video but uh without further ado,let's just get started with this theme,review,alright guys the next theme that i want,to review is the narrative theme,basically i find narrative works really,well if you're building a store that's,centered around a single product right,or you know a single product that has,multiple variants right,and you'll see like as we go into the,demo stores and we start to look at the,sections and whatnot you'll see what i'm,talking about so you know they say it's,built for small catalogs this hero video,um,you know basically that it has a really,nice uh section on the home page where,you can put a full screen video that,theoretically should auto play depending,on your your visitors browser slash,whether they're using an ad blocker or,not a lot of themes they have the option,to embed videos but they don't have,the big like impressive full screen uh,experience on on a desktop,uh you know they say design for visual,storytelling yeah that's the name,narrative,um fixed navigation that's just,referring to this like instead of having,a menu bar it it just has this hamburger,and you'll see as we get into looking at,the demo site we'll see that more,vertical slideshow you know that's,better shown than said so we'll just,wait until we get into the demo to show,that,and then the wide layout basically this,this theme looks really good on on,desktops this theme more than a lot of,the other themes uh free themes on,shopify makes use of you know having,that huge,width on a desktop so if we get into,looking at some of the demo stores,you can see this is just their earthy,theme style so you can see it basically,has,uh you know it's pretty standard for a,lot of themes they just have a sort of a,an image a huge image and then they have,you know the title and a button or,whatever,that's pretty standard but this is what,i was talking about with this this,hamburger icon you know you hover over,it uh gives you a little animation you,click that it opens up and you can see,now we have our menu here right so if,you want a um you know across the screen,menu this is not the theme for you um,but if you're fine with having this you,know transparent uh header with um,with the hamburger that's good and the,other thing to note is this is like a,semi-sticky header because basically,when you're scrolling down it's not,there as soon as you scroll back up we,can access the m

Shopify Themes - Free, Paid or Custom? (The Honest Truth)

so far on this channel we've continued,to go deeper and deeper into shopify,theme development but today i want to,zoom out and talk more broadly about the,need for theme development to begin with,if you're new here i'm chris and i,currently specialize as a front-end web,developer for the shopify platform i.e i,do shopify theme development but if,you've clicked on this video i'm going,to take a guess and say that you don't,actually need my services let me explain,so given that i've built a bit of a,reputation for this kind of work i get a,range of people reach out to me some of,which are just starting out in,e-commerce and to virtually all of these,people i tell them to start with a,pre-built theme and focus on customizing,their theme later,why because as a new store owner your,primary goal should be on sales and,marketing not on getting your theme,perfectly customized i'll be honest a,custom site for me is typically going to,come with a five figure price tag and if,you don't have a ton of traffic on the,site yet that budget is probably better,spent on generating traffic instead,pre-built themes whether free or paid,will do the trick for the majority of,sellers and with premium themes starting,at a price tag of just around 220 usd,it's an easy investment to justify that,is until you reach a certain level,that level is typically when you start,to turn over more than a million dollars,in revenue at this point you have a real,business and with around 40 profit,margin you're making around 400k which,you can start to split up between,marketing and website improvements,people often ask me do i build websites,to which i answer no i customize,existing ones regardless of whether,you're just starting out or a few years,into your business,very rarely is it the case that i as a,developer need to create a brand new,theme for a client,most e-commerce sites have similar,features almost every product page has a,set of product images a product title,description price product form,and the add to cart button so there's no,need to reinvent the wheel but with a,bit of theme development we can add,extra features to the product page make,unlimited changes to the styling of this,page and this is where theme development,comes in,while the theme might come with some,customization options the only way to,achieve full control is enlisting the,help of someone who understands,front-end web development on the shopify,platform so with this in mind let me,directly answer the question in the,title of this video,the first decision you need to make is,free or paid theme as i mentioned,earlier this is going to be a question,you need to answer no matter whether you,plan to create a custom site or not as,it's almost always more cost efficient,to start with a pre-built theme and this,decision i would recommend you make,based purely on your budget if you can,afford the two to three hundred dollars,required to buy a premium theme then i,definitely recommend you do it,at the time of record

welcome to ecom ranks in this video i,will guide you on how you are able to,customize,the latest uh empire theme,okay for your shopify website let me,show you an example websites that are,built using empire,theme so this is the first example,here is the logo this is the search bar,and this is the menu,and here is the second secondary menu,okay after we scroll down,it's a slider image or the main image,and it's the feature text and these are,all the collections added here bedroom,dining living,and this is the featured section all of,these sections,uh have been added to create,a beautiful websites okay so all of,these,sections are available in empire theme,so,uh let me show you another example this,is another beautiful website that is,built using the umpire theme,okay so uh we will customize,this website okay this is the,uh german-based uh website and all of,the,languages german i have switched it to,english,but it is built using the empire theme,okay so we will build an exactly similar,website so that,you are able to move or get to know,about different sections,of empire theme okay,so let's get started our video,okay so first section is here that it is,the announcement bar,and then here is the logo section and,this,is this my website okay once i have,added my theme,over here just like here i have added it,it's the latest updated empire theme,version and i'm customizing it from,start,okay so once it's added here,we have to click on the customize,and after clicking on customize,this window will get opened okay in this,window you will see,all the changes and from this window,and this sidebar you are able to do all,the settings of your theme,okay so firstly we have to add this text,okay let me switch it back to german,okay,we have to copy it and simply go to the,announcement bar,and paste it over here okay so,the color the background color would be,this one,and the text color would be white okay,okay so the announcement bar has been,added,let's just move back what's the utility,bar,basically utility bar is,a bar that comes under an announcement,bar,here you are able to add one more menu,just like you have,some privacy policies pages or about us,or contact us pages,you can create a menu and add all those,links,here okay similar to this one,i don't want to use this in this theme,so simply i will disable it,okay so after this,here comes the header section once we,click on the header section i want to,increase its,width okay,set it to let's 60 px okay,and from this section you are able to,see the mobile version of your um the,mobile version of your website,okay so let me increase the width on,mobile version,okay it's already fine you don't want to,increase it in mobile version,switch back to desktop okay,to move so show search bar on mobile yes,i need it,i simply enable all these options these,are,very good options you can do the same,okay it's asking for the secondary menu,it's similar to the utility bar,and all the links are added here and,when we add t
