hi this is reuben from crown things and,in this short video i want to explore,some unique features of our kingdom,theme,and give you some tips on how to achieve,a really strong layout and make use of,the awesome features that we've included,in our theme,first we will look at the collection,grid talk about the unique product,badges then we'll move into the product,page and at the end i'll give you a few,tips on regular pages,so let's get started,from,version 2 and hi,we've introduced some,cool features that not only spice the,product grid a bit but also,highlight unique features about your,products directly in the grid,i'm talking about these uh little badges,which you can see in our collection page,with,some text and an extra icon,which which are a nice uh,way of uh catching the your customers,attention and make them wanna see,more about what's uh what's going on uh,here,so,for uh making this to work we'll,have to use metafields,uh you can see that here is a blank,theme i don't have this feature uh,working so,first we need to go to the,settings,choose meta fields and,inside products we will add two,definitions that our theme will use for,this feature,in the in the name we can write,something like a,unique feature,title let's say,and here i need to make sure that i uh,follow the,documentation which says,uh the net the name space should be,unique,underscore,feature,dot title okay here i can write a,description to remind me what's this,about like a,short,title for unique feature in product grid,and the type for the unique features,title should be,single single line of text,where is it okay text single line,okay i can save it,then i'll go on to the next definition,this i will call unique,product icon,or unique feature,icon,again it needs to be called,unique,feature,that,icon this is the way uh in which the,team will uh recognize these unique,features and make them work,as a description i may want to add,like uh,48,on 48 pixels,png image just to remind,yourself,what's with this field and what you have,to insert here i will choose the file,type,only accept images this is good save it,now when i go to any product,let's say the first one,if i go to the bottom of the page,you will see the meta fields here so the,materials that i already have it's the,unique feature icon and unique feature,title let's start with the title i will,write here,great,packaging,okay,and when i save it and,go here and refresh the page,as you can see the title appears here so,now i have this first item with a unique,feature at the top,no other product has it,so this is how you,would also want to make some products,stand out,from the other make sure that you write,a really short item here because on,slower devices or,on uh,different uh,thumbnails that will be,smaller,this will uh,truncate so,there's no use in writing a really big,title here so in this way you can add,product badges like unique product,badges for any any product in the grid,if you want to also add the icons,we go ba

all right guys so in this video i'm,going to be showing you how you can go,ahead and,customize your debut theme within,shopify so debut theme,is the theme that all shopify stores,start out with,by default when you go ahead and start a,shopify store and if you haven't already,opened your shopify store yet you can,start your 14 day free trial by clicking,the first link in the description,so i figured i'd make this video because,debut theme,is one of the most commonly used themes,because it's the one that all stores,start out with and the view theme,actually looks,really good so right here we can see,that this is what debut theme looks like,when it's first installed with,absolutely nothing filled out,so we can see that we have where our,logo should be,we have a big header right here with,some text we have an image here,we have three images with text below,here we have,a uh empty collection and we have,another,um header type image right here another,wallpaper image,we have some testimonials and we have,three images down here,and then we have the footer so,right now we have a nice little template,but it's blank,so if you're looking to go ahead and,fill out,your um store using debut theme,the first thing you're going to want to,make sure you have is,a few key things so i'm going to bring,up a notepad and just make sure,because before you go ahead and start,the design process you're going to need,a couple things so the first one is,going to be a logo,so i assume you already have a logo at,this point if you're ready to start your,store design but if not,then make sure you get a logo first,because everything else is going to be,based around the logo,and then we're going to have a color,scheme selected,and normally this color scheme is going,to,be derived from colors from your logo,and typically,you're going to use one to two colors,to base your entire store around and,like i said these colors will be derived,from the logo and the next thing we're,going to need,is a couple wallpaper photos,so we can see we're going to need some,photos to go ahead and put back here in,this header,we need some photos to put back here and,this header as well,so if you have any large photos related,to your business,go ahead and upload them to your,computer or,put them all in one folder so we can go,ahead and,use them as backgrounds here and if you,don't you can use,different sites such as pixabay,to find free stock images that you can,go ahead and use,so let's just type in something like,fishing,so if you had a store related to fishing,you could go ahead and just,look for different stock photos here,or maybe you have something related to,yoga,or fitness you can type in a lot,of different niches depending on what,your store is based around,and you can use some of these wallpapers,to go ahead and put back here,now obviously i do think it's better if,you have your own,custom photos but uh you know not,everyone's gonna have that starting out,so if you don't you can go ahead and us

so if you're new to shopify and just,setting up your first store or maybe you,already have a store launch but you're,ready for a little bit of a refresh then,this video is going to help you find the,perfect theme for your shopify store,because to be completely honest i have,totally for my shopify stores as well as,client stores gone through customizing a,theme only to realize,yeah i should have just done a different,theme and now i've wasted all this time,and money and i just have to make this,theme work when i should have just,picked a better theme in the first place,so when you're going through and looking,at the theme store it's kind of hard to,figure out which theme that you should,pick for your business so i wanted to,create this video to give you some help,so the first tip that i have is to,really think about how many products,that you have do you have hundreds of,products that are all these different,skus all these different categories or,maybe do you have a handful of products,that you're wanting to showcase on your,site it really does depend because the,way that your site design is going to be,built is going to be very different,based on the needs that you have based,off how many products that you have to,show on your site so for example if you,have a ton of products on your site then,you're definitely going to need to have,a really good search functionality,you're wanting to have some filtering,where people can filter by size or color,or availability as well as a really well,displayed drop down menu so that people,can both on desktop and mobile versions,quickly get to the collections and the,product pages on your site,where if you have a bit smaller maybe,let's say 20 or under products you're,not going to really need all of that,functionality and it's actually just,going to make your site look a little,bit more bare instead it's going to be,better for you to go with a site that,doesn't have all those bells and,whistles and instead is focusing on more,storytelling aspects and using some,lifestyle product photography to really,kind of bring more of your brand and,your mission throughout the site and,then feature your products there you can,tell it's very different than of,different customers and buying styles,all based off how many product skus that,you have so it's really important to,keep in mind and you can actually search,on the shopify theme store whether it's,a small or a large catalog and you can,kind of see then where what,functionality is available for each,my second tip is to really keep in mind,of what your individual product,photography is like because let's be,honest we'll go to the theme store and i,definitely do the same as well i will,click on the themes that the photography,is more attractive to me and then i'm,realizing that i'm more into the,photography than i am the theme and,that's a problem because the photography,honestly has probably been purchased to,use for the theme store and so if you,haven't paid a lot of mone
