Structuring and customizing product pages in Online Store 2.0 Shopify themes

hi everyone this is tim from mile hi,themes and in this video i'm just going,to quickly run through how to structure,your product page and also talk a little,bit about using custom product templates,so i'm looking at a standard product,page that we have in our showtime demo,this will be similar in our other themes,but for this particular video we're,looking at showtime,as you can see we've got kind of basic,product information up here at the top,where the cart button is some other,stuff,and then we have some sections down,below using the new sections everywhere,functionality,that comes with online store 2.0 and the,latest version of our themes,so i'm just going to briefly show you,how this is set up and how you can,control how this looks,so over here i have a clean dev version,of the theme that i'm going to be,messing around with i'm going to click,customize here,and i'm going to use this drop down to,go to a product page now you'll notice,that there could be a few custom product,templates in here already in your theme,version,but we're just going to look at the,default product for now,and this is what every product page in,your store will look like out of the box,so for our default product template for,this particular theme we've added a few,sections already,and then this this information obviously,will be there on every product page and,it will update to show the details of,that particular product,so we have an image of a text section,here we have some recommended products,and we have a gallery down here,so first of all we're just going to talk,about,the right side here of this product,information,you see that there's this product,information section here,that you can toggle on and off and,there's all of these different features,enabled,product title is obviously the title,price variant selector all that's pretty,standard we've got a stock status here,you'll notice that you can,turn these on and off,turn off the display,if you click on one of them,you'll see this option to remove the,block over here and then some additional,settings will show up over here,you can drag these around to put things,in different positions like if you,wanted the stock status to appear right,below the product title you can drag it,so it appears there,if you wanted to add some additional,features that are included with your,theme you can click add block and then,you see all the different options,in this case there's quite a few,different things you can add to layout,this area of the product page,we'll talk about a few of them here,so you can see that,most of these are pretty straightforward,as far as determining what it is if you,wanted to add a custom text blocks,there's the quantity selector,pickup availability,if you allow your customers to pick up,the products at your store,product rating would be if you're using,the shopify reviews app,you can add some accordions of text so,if you have a long block of text that,you want to show for the product,description you can

Using Javascript in Shopify Theme Development

so far on this channel we've covered,quite a bit of shopify liquid,but in order to allow the user to update,the ui without reloading the page,we're going to need to use javascript,javascript is essential in shopify theme,development,as shopify liquid the language that,allows us to access the data layer of,our store,is only executed on the server side,using javascript,we can add features like front end,variant switching lazy loading and so,much more,basically any interaction on the front,end that you see on a shopify store,relies on javascript code so in this,video let's talk about how to use,javascript inside shopify themes,and talk about two ways we can pass data,from shopify's backend,for use on our front end,so the fundamental concept you need to,understand here before we can dive into,javascript,is the difference between front end and,back end when it comes to web,development,if you're not familiar with the,distinction between back-end and,front-end,web development i encourage you to check,out lesson four of my skillshare class,understanding web development a,beginner's guide to the web,otherwise to give you a quick summary,the front end code is what you can see,and edit in your browser so when you see,me using chrome dev tools,i'm able to see the css the html and the,javascript in my browser,and edit it on the fly the backend code,shopify liquid in this instance never,makes it to the browser,now that we've established the need for,javascript let's talk about how,and where we write javascript well just,like any website project,we can either include an opening and,closing script tag,anywhere we include html in our code,base we can store it as a separate,javascript file and include it where,necessary,i'll show you how to do this in shopify,very shortly,if executing javascript based on an,event we can also insert the code,directly inside a html element although,this is not a very,common option so if we look inside our,debut theme here,we'll be able to find at least the first,two examples,so what we're looking for for the first,example is,any dot liquid file that contains html,so all of these should contain a mix of,html and shopify liquid,if we look at theme.liquid we can scroll,down and we can see,that there is an opening script tag and,a closing script,tag here and inside there is,javascript so wherever this template,loads,in this case this is the theme.liquid,template so,that is a layout file so it's going to,basically,show up everywhere that javascript,that's written in between these script,tags,will execute and we can make sure of,that,by putting in our own script tag right,here and just,outputting a simple console log,if i hit save on that,and then preview that if i go into my,dev tools,you can see here if i zoom in,script loaded there you go so,you can basically put javascript,wherever you can put html,in your template files okay,another way to store javascript or to,include javascript in a project,which is generally considered best,pract

How to edit your Shopify Mobile Site. Make different sites on mobile and desktop

I'm going to show you how to edit the,mobile version of your Shopify store and,really customize your store differently,on a mobile and on desktop so first let,me go into admin okay on my store,customized so let's add a gallery go to,the bottom pad section gallery so there,it is here's the new gallery and now,what I want to do I don't want to show,this on a phone,how am I gonna do that open up the,website I'm gonna inspect that element,not there yet I have to save here it is,so if I make this screen small you're,gonna see that it's also here so on a,mobile phone it would be visible on a,computer would be visible now what I'm,gonna do right now is make it invisible,on a mobile phone so that's right click,and inspect this element this is Google,Chrome so I want to go through these,until I find the one that is the whole,row so it's right here they should have,the ID of Shopify section so I'm gonna,copy this section number then I'm gonna,go back here and I'm gonna go to the,custom HTML if you don't have that you,can just click Add section and add,custom HTML so in this HTML I'm gonna,add style tags so for example let me,just get rid of this or I'll just put it,right here,style that's the opening one style,that's the closing one and then I'm,gonna write at media max width 450,pixels and opening brackets closing,brackets so what this line means is it's,saying that anything that's in here is,gonna happen when the phone is small,when it's 450 pixels and less which,means you're probably on a mobile device,so what we want to do when our mobile,device is not show the gallery so I'm,gonna paste what I have this section ID,I'm gonna put a hash in front of it and,then again Open bracket close bracket so,now what's in here is what's gonna,happen to this section at this time so,all I'm gonna do is display:none which,means it's not going to display and if I,click Save let me go back here and,refresh,so it's here as you see but then if I,make the screen small it's not there,anymore,it should be under this video it's not,there so that's how you do it it's very,simple and I'll show you a reason why,you would want that so you can see that,I did it for this image right here,because this image is just one picture,so if this is on a phone it would be too,small you can't read anything and I,could show you that let me go here and,remove that refresh this and now let me,make it small and you'll see that it's,way too small and you can't even see,anything so that's just one time that,you would probably want to do this and,then if you wanted to do the other way,around you would just write min-width,450 and then that would make something,only visible on the phone instead of,only visible on a computer so you could,really have two different pages on,different devices and yeah that's how,you do it,thanks for watching

hey shopify users today i'm going to,show you how to make changes to your,theme,preview those changes and then take them,live let's get started,so here's a test product i've put in,here called cool jeans uh let's give it,a preview see what it looks like,okay cool jeans looks great all right,but ah not as great as it could i think,i want to move this sail down under the,next line so let's just look at the code,and see how we can manipulate it to make,that change,here we are in our shopify,administration panel and we're going to,jump straight into it by coming down to,online store,and we want to duplicate this theme the,reason we want to duplicate this theme,is because we don't want our customers,to see the changes that we're going to,be making until we're absolutely sure,that they're ready to be looked at,so down here actions and duplicate,so the theme we want to edit is not the,current theme but it's in the theme,library,i'm going to select this actions tab,and i want to choose edit code,on the left here what we can see,is all the files associated with our,theme and what we want to edit is the,snippets,today the snippet we particularly want,to edit is called,product price dot liquid,okay so now we're navigating down here,to these price badges,and let's see what happens when we,manipulate these i'm going to grab this,whole block,i'm going to copy it i'm going to move,it under this div here,and paste it and what i think will,happen is it's just going to duplicate,exactly what we see here and that is,going to be,the,sale,and the sold out badges,right first now we're going to save it,and just see what happens let's see what,has changed,i'm going to show you how to preview,these changes,we can click the actions button and,bring up a preview,and this will give us a specific preview,of the test store that we're working on,not the live store,so that's important here,i can come back to my page,knowing that i'm looking at my preview,theme this is not the live theme it's,very different,reload and some success okay we have the,sale price here and we have the sale,price there so technically we have a,duplicate,now,this is bad if this was the live site,but this is just our testing site so we,can do whatever we want here we can get,it right and then make it live so,let's just move this along and get it,right and i think we can do that just by,removing this block of code and leaving,this one,so coming back to our code,i'm going to look at this span here,talking about being the sale,i'm gonna grab that and,i'm going to delete it,now i also have this sold out badge that,is duplicated here and here so i,definitely don't want them in the same,space either so,um today i'm going to take the sold out,from away from down here,okay i'm going to save this and let's,preview it again,i can see here the asset is saved,going to my test store,reloading and,great this is exactly what i was looking,for i'm happy with this so i'm going to,now,make it live,okay so now we want to t
