hey it's klaus here i haven't done a,theme review for shopify for a while and,as there are more and more,os 2.0 online shopping 2.0,themes are coming out i thought i will,do one for you this time so let's dive,right into it,so the theme that i'm looking at this,time is the focal theme by maestro some,of you might know that the warehouse,theme of maestro is one of my favorite,themes in the shopify universe,and so i thought this new theme that,they brought out,might be a good catch to see what they,have done so let's dive in here into the,demo store first and then we go into the,back end,the demo store itself you see here's,coming in three different styles if i'm,not completely wrong it's actually it's,four different styles so basically you,can choose from different color schemes,on the demo or on the theme itself,you see it has a pop-up integrated here,directly not the best way to work with,pop-ups here obviously but depending on,how you integrate your theme you might,get rid of this anyway and might,integrate a pop-up coming from for,instance clavio or any other kind of app,now let's be on the homepage here and,see what we have here so obviously we,have a hello bar notification bar right,up here interesting here they have a,slider in there see this one is actually,quite nicely done saves a lot of space,you can put in some more information,than just one line i think that's that's,very easily done so if you have um for,instance one more than one promotion,there or you want to mix it up with free,shipping notifications something like,that you can do this here so i like that,a lot,i like that the header is very narrow,one thing that i always recommend when i,do store reviews um website audits is,having a very narrow header so you want,to bring the main content high into the,browser window above the fold so that,people do not need to scroll down to see,the main content so that's nicely done,then we have here the navigation in this,color scheme actually quite nice high,contrast white text on black background,so easy to read easy on the eyes so,that's also very well done,simply also,enough space here to put enough menu,items in here my screen resolution is,1920 1080 so you see that might even,work with smaller ones,it seems so that they have a currency,converter in um included already that's,nice,here i have contact field something i,would not recommend but that seemingly,is an option in in their um in their,theme,er search icon um again not best,practice so they have it here that's,something i would change there and,obviously the,annoying login account creation thingy,and then we have the back or the card,here and also with a contrasting color,so that's nicely done so overall i like,the header you have all the main,information in here a couple of things,that i would add would for instance like,a support email address right here and,other things but overall the header,quite easy,now then we have here our slideshow our,hero image usually i do not recomme

hey klaus here with another quick tip,episode of the e-commerce coffee break,podcast i just have received an email,from the shopify team informing me that,they have released three online shopping,2.0 themes so these are free and they're,called crave sense and craft and in this,video i want to dive in and have a look,at them and see how they work also from,the back end so let's dive into it,so here we have the first theme which is,called crave and it's great for food and,drink related shops,fits any catalog size quick setup visual,storytelling,so on the shopify store,you will find this theme here and let's,have a look at their demo store how it,looks from the front and just to get an,idea so see it's very clean so we have a,notification bar here we have a very,narrow,navigation bar very narrow header which,i always like so this brings the main,content higher up into the screen,it gives you a little bit of space here,for your unique selling proposition so,that looks good,they support a slideshow here which i'm,not the biggest fan of um for conversion,rate optimization reasons,and then you have a uh very good,overview here of different collections,of products,you have yours email sign up box down,here,and then obviously you have your footer,here so obviously you can change all the,coloring and all of this but overall,looks very clean i like the header is,very narrow let's see how look how crave,looks on a mobile device also here the,usual burger menu if i click this up,then i have my social media icons down,here,i have a search,feature down there,and,fits quite nicely so yeah so this is,basically targeting on everyone who runs,a food related business and,is looking for a theme that sort of,plays into that topic let's go into the,next one it's the sense theme,this is more for health and beauty,related stores,works either for more for smaller,catalogs so it's probably not working,with a huge catalog if you have a lot of,skus a lot of products in your store,um energizing theme featuring standard,product detail layouts so let's have a,look how this looks so again we'll open,the demo store have a look there and go,a little bit deeper and look at the,product detail page,also here i'm starting with a hello bar,notification bar up here where you can,put in your promos then the logo here is,in the middle um again not i'm a big fan,of that i rather would like to have the,logo on the left hand side and the,search bar more in the middle,but overall the navigational area the,header area is relatively narrow you see,they don't opt for a card here they opt,for a back here which might work better,for,the user audience or for the audience,overall,here some trust building elements you,can put in some reviews some,testimonials,again here a little bit more of benefits,for the brand and down in the header now,we have to sign up for your newsletter,in the footer area which is usually the,best place to have it now let's go into,a product detail page and see how that,looks

hey class here how's it going in this,video i want to do a review of shopify's,new dawn theme it's the first free theme,that works on shopify's online store 2.0,so and let's dive into it and see how it,looks,okay we're now in my shopify partners,store and as you see there is no dom,theme installed yet so the first thing,that i saw which is news up here is it,gives you a notification on the updates,for themes and this is basically,targeting for the online store 2.0,themes so if you go in here and then a,new window opens,new tab opens it gives you an overview,of what is new in the online store 2.0,themes so you can just go through that,and you see what kind of new features,these themes have and just given get an,overview what,sections and blocks mean,for you when you want to edit your,shopify themes so i would recommend to,read through of that to get an overview,what online store 2.0 actually means and,once you have done that,go back to your theme overview in your,own store and then you can go down and,just scroll down here to three themes,and go into explorer free themes,again a new tab opens and gives you a,overview here and you see here now there,is a difference between the sort of old,theme structure,and the new ones so you have dawn 2.0,here so this is not operating system,that's online store 2.0,and you see that also,there are more and more um,actually should see it um that there are,more because i put it on page so that,there are also paid themes which are,already compliant to,os 2.0 as well so,dawn right now is the only free theme,so we will dive into that in a second,but you can see that there is more and,more stores coming with giving you the,updated theme structure now,up to end of this year or from the first,of january next year,shopify will not accept any updates or,any new themes that are not compliant to,online store 2.0 so you will see more,and more,um stores coming or themes coming in,that are compliant and if you have a,theme and you have your paid theme then,check with your theme developer if they,already have an update or an upgrade,of your theme or ask them when it will,come out so most of the paid themes over,time um within the next weeks i reckon,will offer a os 2.0,version,now if you want to install the free dorm,theme and that's what we're going to,talk about today you just go in here and,try theme so you basically thrive try,stream and i will install it i've done,this already here on this demo store of,my shopify partner account,and it comes up here so,obviously you want to just test it um so,you can work in the preview if you go on,actions on preview,but,just to dive in and see the back end,which was out doing any changes on your,running store,you just go in here and then you have,the preview of what's happening there so,let's move that over here,so the first time that i've opened it so,let's see what we have here so they,obviously have a notification bar this,is up here welcome to our stores you can,also easily go in her
