all right hello everyone welcome welcome,good morning good afternoon,good evening wherever you are in the,world,thank you so much for joining us today,let me know if you can hear me and see,me in the comments and um,hopefully you guys will also see hannah,in the comments who is our one of our,alumni mentors,and she'll be popping in to keep,everyone organized all right i see,people coming on now awesome,all right hey hannah okay we can see and,hear you great,welcome everyone this is factory 45 live,the live show for fashion entrepreneurs,i'm your host shannon lore the founder,of factory 45 the online business school,for sustainable fashion brands,and i'm here today with candace monroe,of buttercream clothing,who is going to be sharing all about her,experience,using the virtual pop-up method to,launch new products for her brand um as,we wait for a few more people to join us,just go ahead,tell us in the comments where you're,tuning in from,um and then at the end of the interview,i also want to say now um we'll take,questions from all of you so you can pop,those questions in to the chat at any,point during the live show and candace,or i will answer them all right,okay i see some faces and some familiar,names los angeles chicago awesome,atlanta,hey jacqueline hey julie hey kristen,okay great,so i'm gonna go ahead and get started,we'll bring candace on here,hello shannon hello,welcome welcome thank you so much for,being here yeah thanks for having me,it's such a pleasure yeah i'm so glad,we're finally,meeting,in person virtually but um because i've,just admired your brand from afar and,watched one of your virtual pop-ups,several years ago i think um and it's,just been really cool to see your,progress and everything you've done with,the brand will you tell us a little bit,to start,about buttercream clothing what it is,how you got started yeah so buttercream,clothing started at my kitchen table i,always tell the story of how,i had had my first child and i was,trying to get creative with a way to,stay home with the children,so um yeah pretty much started sewing,aprons and at the time i thought i'm,gonna open an etsy store and so cute,aprons sell them and make a business to,stay home with my kids,um so the first iteration of buttercream,was called buttercream aprons,and from there it quickly turned to,clothing when i realized that aprons,were kind of like a niche market,um lots of people wanted canadian,clothing and we really pivoted quickly,and i saw the demand grow so that was,really cool i started hiring people on,and now we've got quite a big team,um so i'm personally based in bc my team,is based in alberta,um we've got about six home seasons,we've grown it to nine now,um we have three local ethical factories,in calgary that we work with,um and then yeah a team at the warehouse,we have our own warehouse in the south,and we have support staff so from myself,at the kitchen table staying home with,my kids it's totally blown up so it's,great to offer so ma

you want to create a clothing brand and,you don't know where to start you have,some money saved in your bank,well now you just gotta watch this,single video to start your clothing,brand you won't need to watch any other,video ever again,so if that sounds like something you,would like please watch the whole video,so you don't miss any tip without,further to do,let's get straight into the video,okay so first you will need a design for,your shirt,if you don't have any design you can go,on fiverr and pay someone to make a,really good design,okay so there's three ways to start this,business,number one is print on demand,if you choose this one you will never,touch the inventory,everything would be handed by a website,for example teespring but there is many,more the upside to this is that you,won't have to do any work besides,marketing it but the downside is that,you will get less profit margin,number two is to bulk order the shirts,and this requires more work but higher,profit margin,number three is to make yourself the,shirts but you will need a lot of time,but the profits are gonna be way higher,but what i do is a little mix of all of,them i started my clothing brand with,just 250 dollar,what i did first is commissioned artist,on fiverr to make me some art second i,found a website that sells clothes at,wholesale without needing a resale,license for very cheap,finally i went to a local print shop and,printed them all for only 100,they turned out fire in the end,after that you will need to do some,photo shoots you can hire someone or,just ask your friends to help you,after that you will need to create a,website i didn't create my website,myself but i will share with you someone,that did this is just a basic way to do,it but you can add more things if you,want but before we get into how to make,the website if you are enjoying my,content please subscribe to my channel,that really helps me a lot,and if you want to share this knowledge,with other people please share this with,your friends,now let's get into how to make the,website,in less than three minutes i'm going to,show you how to create a website from,scratch and put it online for free the,first thing you're going to do is,install visual studio code which is free,and available for mac linux and windows,then i'm going to create a new folder on,my desktop and i'm going to call it,website,and there it is,then i'm going to open up visual studio,code and just drag this file inside to,open it,so now i'm going to click here and,click here to create a new file and i'm,going to call it index.html,so just like that and click enter to,create the file now in the index.html,i'm going to put an exclamation mark and,click enter and this will give me a,layout of an html document so i'm going,to go down here to the body so in,between these two body tags i'm going to,create a title,so we're going to use an h1 tag for it,which is means header1,and i'm just going to say hello,and save that,now we're going to open up our

hello everybody and welcome to it today,we're going to be talking about how to,make a website and how i personally,created my website here's what my,website looks like if you don't know i,have a website that's kind of,acts as a portfolio for me and also,hosts a lot of my graphics that i,offered for free to my followers that's,kind of why i made a website because i,wanted my followers to be able to,download my free designs and graphics,that i was creating and then i also,wanted to have a portfolio for like my,academics and for youtube and stuff to,look back on so that's where we're going,to be starting with the whole process is,you need to first start thinking about,why you want a website and what you want,it to be about that's overall the whole,reason and thing that you need to figure,out in the first place but once you have,that then we can move on to the next,step also just for a couple questions,right off the bat is this whole process,did take me actually a lot shorter than,i thought it only took like a couple,days maybe a week max to get my website,up and running because i was in a rush,trying to get it up because at the time,i was also posting my big video of,macbook customization and i wanted,everybody to be able to find the,graphics super easily so i had this all,super quick but sometimes it'll take,people weeks or maybe even months to do,this all then later on in the video i'm,going to try and do my best to at least,give you some resources on how to figure,out how to monetize your website but,okay i'm going to get on a screen,recording on my macbook so that i can,literally walk you through my exact,steps i did use squarespace to build my,website they are actually sponsoring,this video today and i actually had my,website created with squarespace before,i even started working with them so,obviously i didn't just choose this,website building platform just because i,was working with them i genuinely loved,them and started using them before a,partnership so first you're going to use,the free trial to make this website that,we're about to do and then once you are,ready to launch which i will show you,how to do also to go to squarespace.com,juliacryst to save 10 off your first,purchase of a domain or website all,right let's go ahead and flip over to a,screen recording real quick first what,we need to do is go to squarespace.com,to get started go ahead and go click get,started and then it comes up with all,the templates i will be honest i've been,looking to try and find the template,that i started with but it was a while,ago before they updated to a new version,and the template that i had is no longer,on here so we're going to use a blank,template and see what we can do and try,and build it from the ground up but,we'll see how it goes once that all,loads up you will title it so i,literally just held on mine like julia k,crist sample,continue,edit pages,create pages,style your site all right here is what,our blank template looks like but i'm,going

and yourself sales tax ID is mandatory,you need to have a sales tax ID because,if someone finds out you're doing it you,can get fined and you'll most like most,places you're gonna buy clothes from are,gonna ask for yourself text ID you,really can't get into any like websites,any wholesale accounts if you don't have,that ID so that for sure you need to do,and then after that you create your,website so I created my website through,Shopify I have no clue about anything,about the Internet,well I know about the internet but I,don't know how to create and know how to,code I don't know anything about,anything,so Shopify was super easy to create my,website um I pay monthly thirty dollars,to host it but up front you would pay I,mean there's free templates on there you,can do but then your website might look,like everybody else's website so um you,can pay for a template which they can,range from like $50 to 200 and if you,want a custom built one you can pay,someone more stuff like that but Shopify,you want to have like your theme so this,goes back to defining your customer um,you want to have what colors is she,gonna react to um like maybe if I wanted,to go for a more rocker vibe I would,probably pick black and red stuff like,that but my vibe is a little more um,like like that I can't be bohemian so I,picked like pink and peach for my site,um but I played around with it a lot,I've probably had a bunch of colors but,right now that's what my site looks like,um but played around with themes I've,also changed seen the themes up but yeah,Shopify is super helpful and there's I,mean tons of YouTube videos also saying,how to set up my Shopify account what do,I need stuff like that so um really just,googling watching YouTube videos I,learned everything from the Internet and,then just put it all together so Elise,when you're looking for a business name,you want to make sure that name is,available everywhere so you want to make,sure there's not a website called that,there's not an Instagram name ticket,there's not a Facebook account there's,not a YouTube account those of you want,to start one,there's nothing taken with your name,everything needs to be available because,that happened to me when you're looking,for a business name you want to make,sure that name is available everywhere,so you want to make sure there's not a,website called that there's not an,Instagram name ticket there's not a,Facebook account there's not a youtube,account those of you on a start one,there's nothing taken with your name,everything needs to be available because,that happened to me and to me and I,ended up having to change my business,thing because I didn't check if the,website was taken so yeah so just make,sure that everything is available so,it's easy for people to find they're not,confused or of having to put shop in the,beginning of it or I don't know whatever,it is fashions or something like that um,so after Shopify then you can set up,accounts of different vendors um one,like main

so in today's video i will be talking,about how you can automate,many of the shopify tasks with or,without a coding experience,using a page if i app which called,mechanic,before we get started each task will be,linked,in the timestamp with their link in the,description below,so let's get started so the mechanic app,it's a development uh,tool for technical and non-technical,person so,they already have some pretty predefined,tasks that you can use,and i will be using some real live,use case for this app so the first thing,we need to do is,install the application so i will leave,the link,in the description or you can search for,mechanic in the app store,so i will grab my development,store,so i will click on install up,so i will start with the first task,so it's search product template based on,the product tags so for example,so in the shopify admin dashboard you,can,bulk edit shopify product template,so you need to manually change the,product template for each one,and if you have like a lot of product,catalog it will be like a,very time consuming task so in this,task so i will you need to provide the,tag,that the product tag that you want to to,have some custom products on it,and the product template so i will,create a new task,so i will leave the link of this task in,the timestamp in the video description,so this is how a task look in mechanics,so it's,you don't need a have a technical,background to be able to edit this,so for example this is the task name and,this is,add item so you can add in the left you,can add,the the tag so i will make it pre-order,and for the left box you can just add,the custom product template cfx so i,will make it pre-order also,so if you are a technical person and you,want to edit like,this tasks you can just click on show,advanced,and the code will show up and you can,edit it,so i will click save,so there is some tasks the when you are,starting the mechanic app it will be,just,asking for the basic shopify permission,but when you add when you add a new task,it will ask for new permission,that the task need,so i will update the shopify mechanical,permission,to access to the product to read,and write in to the product permission,so it will be read and write products,and collection so i will click on update,app,so i will go back and click on should it,to add,a custom product template so in online,store,and in the shopify team i will add a,custom shopify,products page to test the task,so it will be just a basic product,template,it will be the same but just just the,functionality,so i will go in new template and choose,products and the suffix that,that we use in mechanic i will call it,pre-order,so it will be like the basic product,page,so i will go back here and i will choose,this one for example,so currently in the shopify team,template we have the product,so i will add pre-order in the tag,and this will be the same if you have,like a previous so for example if you,have like a,previous before installing this,application you
