all right guys so in this video i'm,going to be showing you how you can go,ahead and,customize your debut theme within,shopify so debut theme,is the theme that all shopify stores,start out with,by default when you go ahead and start a,shopify store and if you haven't already,opened your shopify store yet you can,start your 14 day free trial by clicking,the first link in the description,so i figured i'd make this video because,debut theme,is one of the most commonly used themes,because it's the one that all stores,start out with and the view theme,actually looks,really good so right here we can see,that this is what debut theme looks like,when it's first installed with,absolutely nothing filled out,so we can see that we have where our,logo should be,we have a big header right here with,some text we have an image here,we have three images with text below,here we have,a uh empty collection and we have,another,um header type image right here another,wallpaper image,we have some testimonials and we have,three images down here,and then we have the footer so,right now we have a nice little template,but it's blank,so if you're looking to go ahead and,fill out,your um store using debut theme,the first thing you're going to want to,make sure you have is,a few key things so i'm going to bring,up a notepad and just make sure,because before you go ahead and start,the design process you're going to need,a couple things so the first one is,going to be a logo,so i assume you already have a logo at,this point if you're ready to start your,store design but if not,then make sure you get a logo first,because everything else is going to be,based around the logo,and then we're going to have a color,scheme selected,and normally this color scheme is going,to,be derived from colors from your logo,and typically,you're going to use one to two colors,to base your entire store around and,like i said these colors will be derived,from the logo and the next thing we're,going to need,is a couple wallpaper photos,so we can see we're going to need some,photos to go ahead and put back here in,this header,we need some photos to put back here and,this header as well,so if you have any large photos related,to your business,go ahead and upload them to your,computer or,put them all in one folder so we can go,ahead and,use them as backgrounds here and if you,don't you can use,different sites such as pixabay,to find free stock images that you can,go ahead and use,so let's just type in something like,fishing,so if you had a store related to fishing,you could go ahead and just,look for different stock photos here,or maybe you have something related to,yoga,or fitness you can type in a lot,of different niches depending on what,your store is based around,and you can use some of these wallpapers,to go ahead and put back here,now obviously i do think it's better if,you have your own,custom photos but uh you know not,everyone's gonna have that starting out,so if you don't you can go ahead and us

hi this is clear from Shopify in this,presentation we're going to focus on,liquid if you're new to the Shopify,platform you might be wondering what,exactly liquid is well in actual fact,it's the template language that is used,to create Shopify themes it has a lot of,similarities to traditional web centric,programming languages such as PHP and,Ruby and in this presentation we will,have a look at the main features of it,and how they relate to the Shopify,platform,let's begin by actually asking what is,liquid well in its simplest form it's a,template language used in Shopify themes,I like to call it a language other,people might call it a syntax or an,engine there's various terms but to me I,think language is probably the most,applicable in as much as it has common,constructs that you'll be familiar with,if you have done any sort of programming,things such as if-then-else statements,or logic or filters and loops and things,like that so if you've done PHP or Ruby,as I said earlier then you will probably,familiar with a lot of the concepts and,find the syntax very very easy to pick,up what liquid actually does for us it,creates a bridge between our template,files and a datastore now in our case,the datastore is actually a Shopify,store and it allows us to have,constructs within our files that will,then when compiled on the Shopify,platform will be replaced with data from,a particular store and the search this,allows our themes to be agnostic and,reusable whether that's the whole theme,or a chunk of code as the templates,themselves and liquid in effect doesn't,have any concept of the actual data that,it's pulling in for example it doesn't,need to know the name of your store it,doesn't need to know what products are,in your store all it needs to know is,that if a product has been requested it,will go off and grab that data relevant,to the store that that particular theme,has been applied to this also means that,when you come up with a really,functional piece of liquid code you can,use that over and over again in all,future projects so let's have a quick,look at how liquid at,works let's say that someone is,requesting the URL of your Shopify store,Shopify platform then needs to work out,which store is being requested from that,URL and once it's done that it will go,off and hunt out the actual theme now it,will hunt out the active theme directory,obviously if you have a Shopify store,you can have multiple themes within that,store but you can only have one active,one so it will go and grab the,particular theme directory and then also,work out which template file is being,requested so for example is it a,collection page is it the home page is,it a product page once it's done that it,will work through the template it will,find out if there are any liquid,placeholders in there with a baby output,and logic both of which we'll look at,shortly and they will go off and grab,the data that's being requested for the,particular store from the Shopify,platform now wha

hello everyone christian here and today,we're designing a clothing store from,scratch and we'll be using shopify's,newest theme,dawn you know the one with all the fancy,new juicy features from os 2.0,yeah let's get,started now if you didn't know dawn is,the first free os 2.0 theme released by,stopper5 now if you really don't know,online store 2.0,it's the future i made a video about,this so you can check it out right here,dawn is a flexible theme that includes,an adaptable layout site-wide,cross-selling sections and media,optimized product pages with this new,theme you can add sections to every,single,page which is pretty awesome,now in this video we're going to go over,the home page so we're going to design,the home page from scratch for a new,boutique called shibby's boutique,completely fictional but yeah,step number one install the theme,so now that we're here in our totally,nineties kid shop what we're gonna do,we're gonna use totally nine it's good,but we're gonna still make shippies,inside of toilet 90s kid just for the,purpose of um convenience,we're gonna go to online store,under themes,we already have it installed already but,we're gonna go through the process so,you know we're gonna click on explore,free themes,and then should be probably one of the,first ones so you'll see dawn it's free,and it's from os 2.0 so that means they,have some of the newest and greatest,features that shopify has released now,you'll see like some of these old other,ones don't have the os 2.0,um,badge so you want to make sure that you,get that one,that's the one that we're going to be,designing on,and moving forward and i would i highly,recommend to start using some of these,os 2.0 themes and if you have an older,one that you paid for you might want to,check with,the back end of your website because you,might have the opportunity to upgrade to,the new os 2.0 so everyone's going to be,upgrading these and i believe by the end,of this year,everyone should have os 2.0,themes on their store,we click on try theme,and this will automatically download the,theme to our store,that way we can manipulate it and start,using it,you can have a bunch of different themes,installed,on your actual,backend and dashboard and that's what,we're doing so right now we have this,live theme which act it's actually,totally nice kid but what we're gonna do,is we have this theme live library down,here and these are all the themes that,we have installed right here on on this,totally united skit website and what you,can do is you can customize these themes,and you can make them your own and once,you're ready to publish that then you go,to actions and then you publish and that,will bring this particular theme all the,way to the top and put this one right,here down here at the theme library so,just keep that in mind when you're,creating new websites,all right so since that one's still,installing i'm gonna go and manipulate,this one oh never mind it just added so,we're gonna actually click on cu

hi my name is Elle McCann from curious,themes web development studio in,Nashville Tennessee and in this video,tutorial I'm gonna walk you through how,to find the best theme for your Shopify,store so right now I am in the backend,of Shopify so this is what you'll see,whenever you first log in and I'm gonna,click online store in the left hand menu,and then you can see now we're under the,themes area so Debut is a free theme,with Shopify that's included whenever,you set up your Shopify store and,actually in the next video that I'm,recording I'll go through how to,customize that however this one we're,gonna go through setting up a free theme,so you can preview what it looks like,now by hitting this view your store so,we haven't customized anything yet but,you can see the kind of general overall,look and feel of it there's different,areas for products and you can add even,more areas like Instagram and a blog,things like that however if you want it,to be a little bit more stylized the,free theme that is included with Shopify,is a little bit more minimalistic so if,you wanted to do a more designed theme,you can go in to the Shopify theme store,so to do that I'm just gonna go to,Shopify calm which I have set up already,here and if you go under resources you,can go to the theme storm so the theme,store are pre-designed themes that are a,little bit more stylized that you can,still customize with your own branding,and colors and you can sort through,there's so many different options of,them so we'll go up here and you can see,under collections there's different,collections of themes that you can do,also they're done by industry but to see,the free themes that are there you can,go under all themes and under this price,field you'll be able to select free now,a lot of the themes in here that are,really nice and stylized,are paid and they really range in the,the pricing of it but you can now see,all of the different free themes that,are available and you can further limit,how many,things you're searching for in terms of,looking for a free theme that also has,the capability it looks really good with,just a single product so now you've got,that set up so let's say you want to add,one of these themes to your store you,will just select the theme you want,that's the debut one we go back we,already have that one so I'll do this,narrative and you can see different,stylized versions of it here and then,you can just say start with this theme,you would log into your store,okay and then now it has it set up to,where you can either publish it,automatically or install it as an,unpublished theme so if you already have,a store that's live you want to make,sure that you pub install it as an,unpublished theme this way you can go in,and customize it before you actually,make it live so there's no kind of,downtime for your current site well if,you however if you haven't launched yet,you can just hit publish as my store's,theme so I'm gonna say install as an,unpublished theme and t
