Shopify Themes - Free, Paid or Custom? (The Honest Truth)

so far on this channel we've continued,to go deeper and deeper into shopify,theme development but today i want to,zoom out and talk more broadly about the,need for theme development to begin with,if you're new here i'm chris and i,currently specialize as a front-end web,developer for the shopify platform i.e i,do shopify theme development but if,you've clicked on this video i'm going,to take a guess and say that you don't,actually need my services let me explain,so given that i've built a bit of a,reputation for this kind of work i get a,range of people reach out to me some of,which are just starting out in,e-commerce and to virtually all of these,people i tell them to start with a,pre-built theme and focus on customizing,their theme later,why because as a new store owner your,primary goal should be on sales and,marketing not on getting your theme,perfectly customized i'll be honest a,custom site for me is typically going to,come with a five figure price tag and if,you don't have a ton of traffic on the,site yet that budget is probably better,spent on generating traffic instead,pre-built themes whether free or paid,will do the trick for the majority of,sellers and with premium themes starting,at a price tag of just around 220 usd,it's an easy investment to justify that,is until you reach a certain level,that level is typically when you start,to turn over more than a million dollars,in revenue at this point you have a real,business and with around 40 profit,margin you're making around 400k which,you can start to split up between,marketing and website improvements,people often ask me do i build websites,to which i answer no i customize,existing ones regardless of whether,you're just starting out or a few years,into your business,very rarely is it the case that i as a,developer need to create a brand new,theme for a client,most e-commerce sites have similar,features almost every product page has a,set of product images a product title,description price product form,and the add to cart button so there's no,need to reinvent the wheel but with a,bit of theme development we can add,extra features to the product page make,unlimited changes to the styling of this,page and this is where theme development,comes in,while the theme might come with some,customization options the only way to,achieve full control is enlisting the,help of someone who understands,front-end web development on the shopify,platform so with this in mind let me,directly answer the question in the,title of this video,the first decision you need to make is,free or paid theme as i mentioned,earlier this is going to be a question,you need to answer no matter whether you,plan to create a custom site or not as,it's almost always more cost efficient,to start with a pre-built theme and this,decision i would recommend you make,based purely on your budget if you can,afford the two to three hundred dollars,required to buy a premium theme then i,definitely recommend you do it,at the time of record

How much does it cost to sell on Shopify in 2023

in this video I'm going to show you how,much does it cost to start selling on,Shopify many people assume that the only,costs involved in here are the Shopify,monthly fees but that's not exactly,right because there are many things that,you need to pay for and there are many,costs involved some of them can be,avoided and others cannot in this video,I'm going to break down all the involved,costs and I'm going to give you my best,recommendations depending on your budget,and how much you are willing to spend so,get your paper and pen or maybe your,iPad ready and let's start the first,course involved is obviously the Shopify,monthly fee and here you can choose,between five different plans but mostly,probably you would go with a standard,plan or with a Shopify plan so you would,be either paying 24 dollars per month or,maybe 69 depending on which plan you,went with now if you pay for the full,year you can lower this cost from 24 per,month to 21 dollars per month well it's,up to you but logically speaking if you,are looking to create a sustainable,business you must at least pay for one,year now that you have signed up to,Shopify and you decided which plan you,are going to use we move on to the cost,number two and it is to get your,professional domain name when you sign,up to Shopify Shopify will give you a,default store URL that looks something,like this I highly recommend you to use,your own domain name so you must,purchase it you can purchase it from any,domain name provider such as namesilo,name cheap or maybe even Shopify or from,GoDaddy if you decide to use name zero,for example and you purchase your domain,name for two years this is gonna cost,you 28 dollars and that's it basically,these are the only costs that you must,pay starting a Shopify store can cost,you less than 50 dollars as a starting,point but we are not looking to create,any Shopify store we are looking to,create a very professional highly,converting Shopify store and that's why,there might be more costs and more world,so stay with me now moving to the Third,Coast and it is the cost of purchasing a,Shopify professional team,well whether you want to go with a free,theme or with a p theme this is a,decision that you need to make,there are many good free themes that are,available within the Shopify theme store,but I highly recommend you to go with a,professional theme if you have some,budget and I'm going to explain to you,why well building a store takes time and,usually paid themes offer so many,Advanced features and tactics that will,allow you to increase your store,conversion rate and your average order,value well with free themes the options,are limited that's why if you have the,budget I highly recommend you to go with,a paid theme so for the course number c,you can either pay zero or pay something,between 250 dollars to 350 dollars,depending on the theme you choose now,moving to the course number four and it,is the cost for your email marketing,software if you have been following me,

I turned a FREE Shopify Theme into a Christmas One Product Store for Dropshippers!

in today's video we are turning,shopify's free theme origin into a,Christmas one product store theme before,we get into the video if you like videos,about winning products Drop Shipping,Shopify themes apps and tutorials do us,a favor and hit that subscribe button,and turn notifications on now let's get,into the video If you haven't seen a,theme origin yet it's one of shopify's,newest free theme it's a one product,store setup I did a video on it as well,as the second free theme that Shopify,released at the same time so if you want,to see that watch this video but to get,started start by installing the theme,origin,foreign,thank you,once origin has been installed click,customize,then click the paintbrush icon,and click colors,now follow along with me,foreign,thank you,for the gradient you can select any one,of these that has two colors because,we're going to change the colors anyway,foreign,foreign,foreign,next we're going to move on to the,checkout so from the drop down select,checkout,then scroll down here on the left hand,side until you see checkout,click it,and scroll down more so you can see your,options,first I'm going to upload my logo,then for the main content area,background I've created two gradient,backgrounds that you can upload and use,you can choose red or green both of,these are included in theme files which,you can find a link to in our,description box as for the colors follow,along with me,thank you,foreign,now let's head back to the home page to,set up our sections,foreign,at the top I decided to turn the,announcement bar off but it's up to you,if you have a sale going on or have an,important notice feel free to utilize,this for the header upload your logo,and set it as 200px,there's an option to add a menu here but,because this is a one product store I'm,not going to add that in I want to give,the visitor all the information they,need in order to make a purchase on this,one page,next we have Rich Text for the text add,something that will hook your visitor,and make them want to stay don't add,your store name here or anything like,happy holidays or whatever it may be,this is a lot of space and it's the,first thing a person will see when they,come to your store so make it work for,you next I'm going to add a text block,underneath and add this text,next we have our featured product you,can choose a product by clicking here,and then set the color scheme as inverse,normally it would pull the description,from your product listing but in origin,they actually have their own custom,description here just type something,brief because we're going to add in more,information below it in a second next,scroll down,and click add section,then select multi-column,drag that right up below the featured,product,erase the heading,set the image width as 1 3 width of the,column,set the number of columns on desktop to,4.,column alignment as Center,set the secondary background as none,erase the button label,set the color scheme as inverse,and set the number

I turned a FREE Shopify Theme into a One Product Store for Dropshippers!

in today's video we are going to turn,shopify's newest free theme refresh into,a simple easy to set up one product,Dropship store,before we get into the video if you like,videos about winning products Drop,Shipping Shopify themes apps and,tutorials do us a favor and hit that,subscribe button and turn notifications,on now let's get into the video alright,first things first we need to install,refresh to do that click online store,themes,and then scroll down to the bottom where,it says explore free themes,chocolate,select refresh,and click add to theme Library,once it's finished installing click,customize,the first thing we're going to do is,adjust the colors so click on theme,settings,colors,and follow along with me,just a quick note with these gradients,I'm choosing colors that match my,product I chose the orangey gradient,because of the color on the sleeves and,the purple because of the product photos,but feel free to choose a different,gradient that better matches your,product,oh,thank you,foreign,go ahead and save your work I know this,looks a little strange right now but we,will adjust everything when we work on,the sections by the way if you guys want,a cheat sheet with screenshots of my,settings colors the text I used as well,as the AliExpress link to the product I,feature in this theme join our private,Facebook group I'll be posting it there,you can find the link in our description,box,all right up next we are going to adjust,the checkout colors so from the drop,down select checkout,click theme settings,checkout,the first thing I'm going to do is,Select my logo you can't see it right,now because it's white but as soon as we,change the background color you will,next I'm going to change the background,color,change the form fields from white to,transparent,change this background color,the accent color,and the button color,save your work and head back to the home,page,for the home page I won't add any text,here yet all we're going to do right now,is set up the sections starting at the,top with the announcement bar I decided,to go with the other greeting I set up,so I'm going to select accent 2.,next I'm going to click on header,I'm going to change the color scheme to,background one,select my logo,and increase the width to 250 PX,then Under menu I'm going to remove the,menu this is a one product store so we,don't need any Links at the top,last but not least deselect enable,sticky header no need to have the Top,Bar following us around since we don't,have any menu links,moving on to the slideshow I'm going to,remove the third slideshow block because,I only need two,next change the desktop content position,to Middle right I won't be uploading the,slideshow image just yet but the image,size I used was 1920x620,by default I have a featured collection,section here which I'm going to delete,your sections might look a little,different than mine but not to worry,keep following along and I'll show you,which ones to keep,what I want here instead is a featu

Spark Shopify Theme

hey everyone welcome to a new video,today we're going to be doing a review,of the,spark shopify theme,by fluorescent design inc here on,shopify now we're actually going to be,comparing it to one of my favorite,shopify themes for jewelry and i figured,you know be a good comparison because,this theme uh is actually categorized,for uh jewelry and fashion and clothing,and things like that so i'd actually you,know be pretty interested to see the,comparison so without further ado let's,go ahead and get into it so the spark,shopify theme,is actually a theme that is shopify 2.0,friendly so it uses the operating system,2.0 for shopify,it's a 280 dollar shopify theme i,actually own both of these shopify,themes,the spark shopify theme and the jewelry,god shopify theme the jewelry got shot,by theme is actually also 2.0 but it's,60,so it's significantly more expensive and,i want to see are,significantly cheaper than the spark,theme and i actually want to personally,see the different benefits now i,actually know,and personally kind of believe that one,theme is better than the other but we'll,go ahead and talk about that towards the,end so to go ahead and view the demo i,always recommend always view the demo,before you go ahead and see a theme now,i've viewed this demo before i'll say,that for the first,like 30 seconds it took a little bit of,time for the theme to load i don't know,really what it is or why it was so slow,but since everything now is loaded i'm,happy that it's loaded i could actually,make this video now for me to view the,theme here the jewelry god theme i have,to go ahead and head over to the jewelry,god page and click on view shop demo,and use password ocean to log in so,let's go over here type in password,ocean,and hit enter okay whenever you guys,click on the view demo it'll take you to,that password page you type in the,password and you're in okay so the first,thing i notice is both have this banner,so there's a banner here and there's a,banner here now i actually do believe,that the jewelry got i can't remember,but i think you are allowed to put video,for the banner but you should read the,description just to make sure but um,there is video here as well if you're,not planning on using video uh you can,also use image as well it's not like,these themes require you to use video,you can use image as well okay uh the,next thing here is we have a uh,section just that talks about you know,the benefits of the business,so,you have heirloom pieces ethical,materials free shipping perfect gifts,the best way that i can describe this,is this is like,your business policies in a way right,it's what you stand for as a company um,and i believe this theme has that,feature as well in a different way and,you guys will see this actually it's the,exact same so you can see here the,benefits listed here as well so it's,literally the same you just have to,change up the text i think the,difference here is that um very clearly,that jewelry god doesn't present their,fe

Shopify Released a NEW One Product Theme!

Shopify has just released two new free,themes and in today's video we're going,to check them both out together you're,going to get my real honest live,reaction to these two new Shopify themes,publisher and origin before we get into,the video if you like videos about,winning products Drop Shipping Shopify,themes apps and tutorials do us a favor,and hit that subscribe button and turn,notifications on now let's get into the,video so the First theme we have here is,called publisher,so let's just go ahead and take a look,okay,so we have this one's a link right here,I guess to a collection,this uh picture isn't clickable,then we have a new arrival collection I,like this,um it looks like there's more here but I,just don't see like a way to scroll,which is kind of odd like you can tell,this is a carousel but,where is the arrow I don't know,that that part's a little confusing okay,next,another image here with no click,I have mixed feelings about this because,it's a huge image and I just feel like,if you're going to take up that much,space It should be clickable it should,be leading to something like if someone,sees this product and they want to buy,it well you can't click it like there's,no option to,uh see the product the actual product,this one right here is we have the,apparel collection,then gift card I love that Shopify is,um showcasing more gift cards this is,pretty cool oh nice they have the option,of physical digital and then yeah I like,that,um,then we have a little notice here about,free shipping,and then yeah this one isn't clickable,and then I guess,um an advertisement to see upcoming,events and then we have the footer okay,let's just check out some of the,individual Pages oh that's interesting,too actually I didn't notice that right,away but there's no menu and there's no,scrolling menu either so,this is more of like um,one page design could be used as a,um one product store,um but yeah I'll just go down here I,guess I'll click this but yeah that's,really odd like there's like I mean we,have the links here and then the shop,buttons but,why is there,literally no menu whatsoever,that that's kind of odd okay anyways,let's go,let's check out books,okay,I like the Mouse,um Mouse over effect where it changes,photos that's nice,just kind of curious to see like an,individual product page so we'll just,click this one,I do really like the purple background,here this is really nice,nice I like the little icons,change here,you may also like that's handy okay,um again see like I want to like click,somewhere else but there's no links I,really right at the moment I dislike,that I'm curious to see how this is,gonna look on mobile I'll just pop it up,on the screen so you guys can follow,along as well but,curious to see how that works on mobile,but I feel like scrolling to the bottom,here to change the links every time is,not if not very user friendly,let's just check the about us page,yeah it's just it's nice,um,let's see what else we should check out,here,se

Shopify Dawn Theme Customization - Dawn Theme Design Tutorial (OS 2.0)

all right what's up guys this is jake in,this video i'm going to be showing you,how you can go ahead and customize and,build a store using the dawn theme with,shopify so dawn is the new default theme,whenever you set up a shopify store so,we're gonna go ahead and take a look at,how you can,set it up to make your store look good,so first thing you need to do if you,don't already have a store you can go,ahead and click the first link in the,description,and you'll be taken to this page right,here and you can just enter your email,address and go ahead and start your free,trial and we can go ahead and get,started setting up your store,so once you've went ahead and started,your trial,you're going to be taken to the back end,of the store right here and we can see,that by default the current theme is,going to be dawn so what we're going to,go ahead and do first is take a look at,the base template of this theme and then,we're actually going to start building,it out so i'm going to come over here to,actions and click on preview and now we,can go ahead and take a look at the base,skeleton that dawn provides us so we can,see here that we have a little,announcement bar up top we have our logo,we have our menu and we have the cart,and search icon we have a nice header,wallpaper right here along with a call,to action right here,we have another little,call to action with some information,right here we have,four featured products right here in,this section,and then we have a media collage that,includes a video,a collection and a product and then we,have a video section down here and then,we have a multi-column section which,includes three different text sections,right here and then we have the footer,so this is how dawn looks out of the box,and we're going to do a couple small,changes to it but mostly we're going to,be,building out this store using the base,skeleton of the theme to keep things as,simple as possible so with that said,we're going to go ahead and come back,over here and really quickly we're going,to take a look at the things you're,going to need to go ahead and build out,your store using this theme,so the first thing you're going to need,is a logo if you don't already have a,logo for your business or your brand you,can make one over here at logomaker.com,or you can come over here to fiverr.com,and search for a logo designer and get,one made for relatively cheap the next,thing you're going to need is some,wallpaper photos because we've seen,especially on the header you're going to,need some photos to use for that so,these are going to be pictures that are,related to your brand or your product,and if you don't have any of those,yourself you can go ahead over here to,pixabay.com or,unsplash.com to look for free stock,photos that are related to your product,or niche and then obviously we're going,to need product photos as well as,product details so this is something,that i assume you would already have,and then in this case we saw that there,was a video

Find Cost of Goods Sold for Your Shopify Store

hey everyone lindsay here so i'm going,to be filming a bunch of videos on data,you can find on your shopify backend,especially for taxes but also just to,know for,the health of your business,just know your numbers so the first one,i'm going to do is cost of goods sold,so i'm going to get right into the,computer and show you how to find that,on your shopify store okay now that we,are over on the computer i'm going to,show you how we can find our cost of,goods sold from shopify now first off so,i'm in the products area,and i want to click on one of these and,i want to show where it is going to pull,the information from so see right here,you needed to have entered your cost of,goods in this section right here because,that is what shopify is recording every,time you get a sale let's say i sold one,of these 10 inch hoops,it would record that my cost of good was,245 okay so now that we know that you,know it's not going to magically know,your cost of goods you've had to have,entered it shopify does make it hard,because you can't enter in different,costs of goods let's say you had 10 that,came in that were a dollar and the next,10 you bought were a dollar and 10 cents,it won't let you change it so that there,it will automatically switch now you can,change it and it will record the cost of,good as whatever this section right here,is,at the time of your sale so you can,change it throughout the year but,sometimes you might have to make little,notes,that it might have recorded one wrong,i'll go over that a little more once we,get into the actual document,so to find your cost of goods go over to,the analytics section,and click that,and then you're going to go to reports,and then we are going to go down to,finances this is my favorite spot to go,there are a few other areas where you,can find the cost of goods but this is,the one will be broken down the most so,then you are going to click on finances,summary you'll see over here it has cost,of goods sold you want to pay attention,up here what it says that the period of,time is that is recording so right now,it says month to date,so this is only showing me the current,month i can do,year to date,if you're doing this for taxes and it's,january and you want to get the past,year go to last year so i'm just going,to click here to date for this example,hit apply see now it says year to date,up here so down here we have the cost of,goods sold we have 142 000,so then i like to export this so then,you want to click the cost of goods sold,and again here make sure this is correct,so we are still going to do year to date,for this example it is showing that same,142 000 some odd dollars and then go up,to here to export in the top right,corner,and then it's saying it will be exported,as a csv file now i go through these in,microsoft excel if you do not have,microsoft excel you can use google,sheets so then i hit,export,and now it popped up,so i'm gonna hit open with excel now you,can save it and open it in google sheets,if y
