Shopify Tutorial: Hiding a Long Description in Collapsible Accordion (on free themes)

hello guys today i'm doing a requested,video but i hope that this is going to,be helpful to a lot of people this is,for anyone that has a really long,product description right and it's,pushing the rest of the page down and,people need to you know really scroll,to kind of see more information about,the product it's even worse if your,description is up above your buttons,and then people don't actually see your,add to cart buttons and your quantity,field and stuff like that right so,you may want to somehow,contain this entire description,inside something like a collapsible row,an accordion a toggle drop down whatever,you want to call this kind of interface,you click it and it opens up your,description but when it's closed it,doesn't take up space,i'll also show you,a couple of different options for,example if you want a little bit of,preview text so if you want like a short,description here right,and then you want a read more,with the rest of your description,um then i'll show you how to do that as,well and i actually think that this is a,much nicer solution than simply this in,case you're wondering no i'm not talking,about just using the collapsible row,blocks because,this is very limited obviously you can't,put like this wasn't intended for a lot,of text and in this all you can do is,like bold and italic i am actually,talking about the main product,description,about this field and wrapping the output,in a collapsible row like this or,actually splitting it so as you can see,this first sentence from here,is the first sentence here,and then the rest of it starts from,lowdom altera,and this is a london altera here so,actually splitting it here in between,these paragraphs so that it outputs in,two different places,showing you how to do all of that oh and,i almost forgot to mention but you are,going to be able to set this classical,description,as uh enabled or disabled on a per,product basis so if some products have,short descriptions and you don't want,the collapsible accordion at all,then this will be false by default,actually,and to turn it on you will have to click,true right and this is using meta fields,so if you're interested,in one of the features of shopify 2.0,which is meta fields and this will also,be a small introduction to using emitter,field,in a real life scenario i'm going to be,using,dawn right you'll be able to follow this,tutorial exactly if you're using dawn or,if you're using any of the free,shopify 2.0,themes right like dawn craft,crave sense all of these they have the,same code they have the same settings,if you're using a different theme from a,different company not from shopify then,i think you're still going to be able to,use this tutorial and kind of apply the,same concepts to another theme it might,be a bit more difficult but,many of these collapsible rows are built,in similar ways and what we're actually,going to be doing in this tutorial is,copying the code,that does these collapsible row blocks,and simply wrapping it aroun

hey guys dylan here the ecom lion and,today we are going over that thing you,already know what it is,that nasty online store speed you may,look at your score and go how do i have,16 you may have jumped on facebook even,and seen people going it's not real,shopify just wants more money off you,spoil it it is real everything about it,is real it's actually a google product,it's not shopify shopify don't want more,money off you this way but today in,today's video we're going to teach you,how to understand what the speed score,actually is we're going to assess the,damage and then fix it everything is,free there's no paid apps so let's go,how do we understand what the speed,score actually is so the first thing you,want to do,is click online store then under the old,theme box you're going to scroll down,and click view report you're then going,to click see how your score is,calculated this is going to pull three,different metrics so you have your home,page your product page or your most,popular product page i should say and,your most popular collection page,google is then testing those three,different pages by giving them a score,of them pulling the average of those,three numbers and giving your store a,total score which happens to in this,case be 16. now,um if you're like me and you're a drop,shipper and you have a one product store,the most important metric is actually,your product page if that's the page,that all your advertising is targeting,to it actually doesn't really matter,what your home page score is it really,doesn't matter what your collection page,score is it's your product page which is,the most important so you want to click,view insights and it's going to pull up,a report from here there's one thing you,have to check and that is to make sure,that it's actually pulling the product,which you are testing and advertising,right now so you need to make sure that,that is the page which is being analyzed,so the way you do that is you just grab,that url you chuck it into this box you,click analyze it's going to pull the,report so once you have the correct page,up here you'll get a total score now you,want to run it about three times and get,a rough idea of what the score actually,is the reason why you do that is because,any sort of page speed software anything,that analyzes,pages and websites,in terms of speed and optimization they,all are actually done from servers,there's not someone sitting there going,oh,user3269,wants me to look up my website and they,type it in and they you know it's not,it's not it's not what's happening we,all know that right so it's a it's a,server which is actually pulling your,speed it's testing your site and the,problem with servers are servers aren't,real users so of course servers,can have issues in different scenarios,servers can have errors they can be,overloaded there could be heaps of,people trying to test their websites,right now this is why i say analyze it,three times the next thing you want to,do is pull up gt

Tutorial: How to Embed Videos on Shopify Pages, Products, and Themes

hi everybody my name is john and in this video we're going to learn how to embed ,different types of videos onto your shopify store so the first thing we're going to do is if we're ,using a small video and a very short video we're going to use the file manager within shopify ,to embed that file on one of your pages or on your actual home page itself or in one of your ,products so if you have that video you're going to go into settings and then files and then click on ,the upload files button and select the video file from your computer i've already uploaded my file ,and it's located right here so the next thing i'm going to do is copy the url,and then i'm going to go into my online store so let's go and add ,this file onto the home page of my theme so in order to do that click on customize,and then click on add section custom html,and then select,now if you click on this custom html button you'll see the html that already exists on ,the page right here i'm going to delete all this html and then i'm going to use the following code ,to embed on the page i'm going to copy and paste this code within the video description ,and include a link to it within the description itself so don't worry about pausing this video ,and rewriting everything there's going to be a link in the video description to copy this code ,i'm going to take the url from my file manager that i copied earlier i'm going ,to paste it within this section that says your video link here so i'm just going to paste that ,url and then i'm going to copy all of the code here and then paste it within the html section,and now you'll see that i have my really nice video on the home page with some controls at ,the bottom to adjust the volume start and stop the video and make it full screen so this looks pretty ,nice how do we add this on a product let's exit this page and then go into our products i already ,have a product made but you can also click on the add product button to start from scratch,so what i've done in this product page is i've embedded ,html but you can also embed the html code that you copied earlier,and then save this so that it's visible on your product page itself if we preview this page ,we'll be able to see that video playing right here on your product ,this works really well with small videos and videos that are below a certain file size ,watch what happens when i try to upload a video that's too big into my file manager for shopify,so you'll notice that the file that i tried to upload is too large so if you run into this ,situation you're not going to be able to use the method that we just went through and using that ,special code we'll have to find a workaround with youtube so what we can do in this situation is ,that if we have a video that is larger than 20 megabytes or is longer than four minutes ,either one of those we can upload the video to youtube which is completely free and then we ,can go and embed that

How To Shopify SPEED Up | The ONLY way to do Shopify Speed Optimisation

hi guys welcome to dead ground so i'm,going to show you a real quick video,all about how you can speed up your,shopify site,in little more than about 20 characters,20 characters yes,so i've been running a shopify store for,the last seven years,and the thing that i've been focused on,every single day has been speed speed,and performance and if you run a shopify,store,and you actually look at the details on,things like pingdom,gt metrics page speed insights you'll,probably be pulling your hair out a lot,more hair than this,and then a shopify store there's an,awful lot of functionality and apps,you can get on shopify which can make,your store slick,quite nice to engage with but all that,comes at a cost of performance,and one of google's known ranking,factors is speed,importantly page performance the ability,for it to load on mobiles,and well if your site's not fast and,you're wondering why you're not ranking,that might be your point so we have,always focused on every site we launch,for our own business this is for our own,business as well as for clients is,speed speed and performance down to,whether or not you,uh start with a theme a pre-made theme,look for the fastest theme you can have,look for the fastest theme with the most,functionality and features already built,in so you haven't got to then,add apps to do those things i always try,to strip away things,anyway i told you i'd show you how you,can speed up your site,with about 20 characters let me just,explain first,why you do that and what the problem is,so,when you download an app on shopify uh,every app will say to you our app super,light,and the code runs asynchronously and,what that means is as the site runs,the app is not blocking the rest of the,page to load it what it does it sort of,runs at the same speed and so it's,called a synchrony it runs at the same,time,and that's their that's their sort of,pitch that hey this is not going to,affect your site,but the reality is if you download,something like with a delivery timer so,on a product page at the add to cart it,will say order now within the next x,minutes and it will constantly cascade,down based on your geographic region,um to get next day shipping i'll get,delivery by xday it's a great feature,really good feature people want to know,when are they going to get some things,one of the most common reasons,to abandon car is shipping related,issues not knowing when it's going to be,maybe it's too long,hidden costs so having a shipping,delivery timer with a predicted date,there,telling them when they do it it hits,with sort of fomo for missing out but,it's a really cool little feature,however and it's not it's be fake it's,also,it's not a not a particularly large,feature however,when you download an app like that on,shopify it's injected into your,theme liquid and your theme liquid is,essentially the,the page for your entire site your your,theme i suppose,i suppose it's the skeleton of your site,that means when you load a blog page the,scrip

hi everybody thanks for tuning back in i,know it's been a while since i made a,video but came across something today i,thought that could be helpful for a lot,of you people who are trying to set up,your google maps so i'm going to show,you how to get a google map api key and,get it working on shopify,okay so google maps has changed,considerably in the last couple of years,and what they've recently done and this,is recently going back six or seven,months is they have required billing,information to be set up for their apis,so people that are high users are the,ones that are going to be paying for it,now what i'm going to do is i'm going to,walk you through how to set up your,google api account now keep in mind,there's a number of apis that are still,offered for free,and when we set up this account i'm,going to show you the two that you need,to have enabled in your google cloud,account so that it shows up on your,shopify site so let me walk you through,that now,all right so step one is we need to set,up an account now it's important that,you set up an account,underneath the google username that you,want to have the billing information go,to so if you have a google account the,first thing you want to do is you want,to go and set up your billing so if you,go into go to google cloud.com maps,platform that's the first place that,we're going to go and you want to make,sure that you're logged in underneath,your username now there's lots of videos,out there that are going to show you how,to add billing and stuff like that i,will find one and list it down in the,description but once you've got your,billing set up what you want to do is,you want to go to the get started button,right here in the middle i'll also link,leave a link to the,google cloud platform so you go and go,right to it so the first thing you do is,you go to google cloud platform and,it'll ask you to get started,once you've done that you're going to,need to set up a project so i have got a,number of projects set up in here i'm,going to go and create a new project,and i'm going to give it a name of test,map,api,we're going to create that,let's get rid of those notifications,there,and then we're going to go to maybe apis,and there are two that we need to enable,so the first two that we need to enable,in order to get the correct um,work the correct api working on shopify,is you need maps javascript api and you,need the geocoding api so there's a,bunch of ones that when you set this up,initially it's going to try and,activate all of them you can leave all,of them set up if you want to but you,don't necessarily have to,i like to keep mine to the bare minimum,so i don't accidentally get charged for,something that is not something that i,want to be using so once you've set up,the individual two apis and added them,to your account you simply click on the,api that you want to add i'm not adding,directions.api but you click enable and,it will add it to your account,so let's go back here to the,dashboa

hello everyone does Edwin from,resolution design tap lead Shopify,experts here today going to review,Mobilia the Mobilia theme from Shopify,or actually from out of the sandbox,Shopify website so the developers of,this beam not to mixin anybody up is out,of the sandbox and the platform that,we're using here is Shopify alright so,I'm sure everybody is aware that you,could get this theme online or test it,out yourself but the purpose of this,video is not for coders definitely if,you're an expert at coding you know a,whole bunch of HTML and all that stuff,this is not the video for you this is,the video for the basic person that's,just trying to build their website,you're trying to sell some products,online right and they don't have enough,time or maybe resources to get a,developer so they want to kind of do it,themselves right so that's what it's all,about,this is Mobilia let's get started I have,four tabs open and then these four tabs,we're gonna go over there for different,looks and on this presentation I'm going,to tell you everything in and out as far,as pros and cons regarding Mobilia if,you should install it or not let's start,all the way at the top so right here the,one we're looking at it's called Sydney,I'm sure you guys seen it before with,Sydney we're gonna first begin over here,with the notification it's very tight,very limited so some information like,this would be more than enough or you,could disable it which is a good thing,so you're not permanently stuck with it,then we have the logo canvas um having,or doing business with some clients I,noticed that some clients have like,square logos logos that kind of like,let's say look like this or they have,the rectangle logo well themes typically,have a canvas to fit your logo in here,and in this example is just trying to,give you an idea what type of logo can,you fit and so ideally simplistic logos,like this would be great so a logo like,this is like you know it has this and,then it's transparent inside here but,according to the other demo versions,this is a square logo this is a square,logo this is more of a rectangle logo,here in their other version they have,again a rectangle very minimalistic and,then right here,they have another very simple rectangle,logo so the way that that's recommended,is for you to have a rectangle logo you,don't want something real big because,then it's going to obliterate the header,so this is kind of giving any idea then,after that as you can see here we have,the social menus over here or the social,icons so that people could find you,online and then we have the navigation,system the main menu navigation and,according to all of the examples as you,can see they have that same pattern,where you got out here your phone number,or something like that and then the drop,down menu or you could have a contact us,where it links to the contact us page to,sign in and then this is the the regular,thing right so it has a good,presentation and a search bar I believe,if you want

Shopify how to edit the contact us page - how to create custom contact forms

hey this is young from let's go chopper,fire and today I will quickly show you,how to set up a contact page if you,don't already have one and then we get,into customizing the default form if it,doesn't quite fit your needs and,actually the things that we will learn,today are fairly simple not too,complicated but still I'm very excited,to make this video because by preparing,it I had the idea that in my next video,I will show you a very practical use,case of all the things that we will,learn today and then I will also explain,why some developers can charge a hundred,or even above dollars per hour for their,services even if they don't always,require some advanced technical skills,so this is going to be super interesting,for all the freelancers and developers,in the audience,make sure to watch out for that but,today we have to learn the basics first,and let's get into it all right setting,up a contact page can be done in 20,seconds you would just go to the pages,section of your Shopify admin dashboard,and you click on add page and we could,call it contact or contact us doesn't,really matter and you can also add a,short description maybe contact us here,for simplicity now and most important,you would apply the page template to,page contact and then save it,on the front end you would see that this,already brings up the default contact,form and you can see this is nothing too,fancy we have the page content on top,followed by two text fields that are,taking half of the container with then,we have one full row text field and down,below a text area followed by the submit,button and we can already keep the,structure in mind so that we will have,an easier time getting an overview in,the theme files soon but one other thing,is very important and that is when,someone submits this form Shopify will,send you an email and they will send it,to the customer email that you can set,up in the general store settings so I,would just search for general and this,would bring up the general settings and,then you can enter the customer email,right here alright next we will start,adding some new fields to the contact,form itself so therefore I will navigate,to my theme files and here's this little,action button and then go to edit code,this would bring up with a Shopify theme,file editor and in the templates section,I would search for the page table,contact template and actually I would,copy everything in here and then I would,create a new template just so that we,have the backup it's a new page template,and we could call it contact - custom,create the template and paste everything,in here and then save it and now that,we've created the custom page template,we would also need to go back to our,page and then apply this template right,here and save the change all right so,before we start making some,customizations to our new contact page,template let's get ourselves an overview,and therefore I switch to full width and,zoom in a bit so you can read this,better and let's start f
