hey everyone in this video we're going,to talk about shopify cli for themes,shopify cli stands for shopify command,line interface and is the latest,alternative to shopify theme kit,previously shopify cli was a tool that,helped users create and deploy shopify,apps but since the online store 2.0,announcements in june 2021 shopify have,extended the shopify cli to provide new,functions for theme development,including the ability to serve themes,locally,so in this video let's talk about how,the shopify cli works and how to include,it into your theme development workflow,before we get started talking about how,to use the shopify cli for theme,development i want to provide some,context here and talk about where this,tool fits in compared to the other,previous tools for developing shopify,themes,when i first started shopify theme,development back in 2019 there were two,tools available slate and theme kit,i believe it was theme kit that came,first but at shopify unite 2017 shopify,announced something called slate a new,build tool for shopify themes intended,to provide a more developer friendly,scaffold for building themes,slate did have some good points such as,the ability to split up scss into,multiple modular files and update css,changes locally but over time shopify,decided not to maintain the project and,eventually announced that they were,officially ending support for slate in,january 2020. therefore slate is not a,tool i recommend to anyone anymore in my,opinion the only reason to use slate is,if you have to i.e you have an existing,slate project that you're unable to or,unwilling to migrate that left us with,themekit a simple tool for uploading and,downloading theme files from your,shopify store making it possible to work,on themes locally,and now the latest option which is to,use the shopify cli for theme,development,chances are if you're watching this,video close to the release date you,might be using shopify themekit as,mentioned shopify themekit is a simple,tool for uploading and downloading theme,code from themes already hosted on your,shopify store we can do a one-time,download from themekit or a one-time,upload from themekit or we can run the,command theme watch and allow themekit,to detect and upload changes to the,theme as it exists on the shopify store,as soon as they happen for a full,tutorial on shopify themekit check out,the lesson in my skillshare class,shopify theme development how to build,and customize your own online store the,shopify cli by comparison is a bit,different with shopify cli you first,connect the tool to your online store by,running shopify login and from that,point you can begin to serve the theme,code you have on your computer locally,running shopify theme serve the cli will,take your theme code and generate a,development theme this development theme,will come with a theme id and a theme,editor but it won't exist in your,shopify store's theme library and it,will disappear after you run shopify,logout,running these s

hey guys this is an example of some,Shopify custom development that we did,for a client the client is brian at BP,wei brian this video is going to show,you how to get in and make some edits to,your new theme fields most importantly,this guy right here this new ad so what,we did if you go ahead and login to your,dashboard you come down to themes you,can see we have two themes set up here,we have the houser design group mods and,we have fresh with aj mobile edits this,is your mobile site you don't need to,mess with this because right now this,image is too large to bring into the,mobile theme so what we're going to,focus on is this guy over here if you go,to template editor if we open theme that,liquid you can see this is all of our,new code for the header the CSS is in,another file and this is our custom code,for the home page ad and the settings,are down here and sending snotty HTML we,wrote some new lines of code for that so,the way you access that you don't have,to worry about that edge wanted to show,you where it was that way to access that,as you go back to themes go to the,houser design group mods and you click,on theme settings now up in the top here,there's this little box that's unfolded,right now and this is Howser mods,and we have a couple fields here the,first is to change the featured homepage,image now the recommended size is 1066,by 3 41 and what this is actually going,to do when you upload an image is it's,going to constrain it to that width in,that height so we're going to upload an,image that's way too big so i can show,you what that looks like and then the,URL right here this is where you put the,link where you want this this new image,to go you just put your link here and,then you go ahead and click Save up here,so right now we have this guy and it,links to the chop saw stand we're going,to back it up come over here first thing,we're going to do is we're going to,upload an image that's way too big open,and we're going to change the link while,we're in here we're going to change this,to test com actually no we're going to,go TP,go ahead and click Save so now you can,see here large test was the image that,we uploaded and it's changing the name,to home page ad that's what this is,going to pull in so now if we refresh,this page,oh there we go sorry it took a while for,the theme settings to save so now if we,refresh the page it resized our image,which is too big and we also changed our,link which doesn't work so what you want,to try to do with possible and I can,help you with this is you want to upload,images that are this dimension if you do,that if we click browse let's pull in,one that we know is the right size and,let's just go over here,let's get the link we're just going to,copy the entire link for the contact,page and we're going to select this,paste it in place click Save theme,settings have been saved if we come back,over here home refresh the page here's,our new picture we click on it go to our,contact page so to put it bac

How to use SCSS with Shopify Themekit (2021)

How To Create Sales Popup Notifications in Shopify (Without Shopify Apps)

in this video we're going to create a,sales pop-up notification like this,without using or installing shopify apps,stay tuned for that,before we start this video this video is,sponsored by shopify i'm just kidding,it's not sponsored but thank you for,sending me this t-shirt it's really,really cool so in this video we're going,to create the following sales pop-up,notifications so we're going to divide,this into four sections the first is,using the toastify.js it's a javascript,plug and that allows you to create a,toast window and then the second is,creating these schema settings to use,products and then the third is creating,javascript code to use the toastify.js,so we can display the products,sales pop-up notification and then the,fourth is i guess designing it so with,that being said let's start by,using the toastify.js open your browser,and go to the following github,repository i'll put its link in the,video description below and then you can,just scroll down and then we can start,by using the following cdn links that's,the css and then the javascript cdn so,let's go back to our shopify store admin,page and let's open the online store and,let's open the theme code editor as well,as the theme editor or customizer page,so open your customize,window in a new tab and then the theme,editor so select the actions and select,edit code open them in a new tab,and then let's open the customizer and,we should have here,a sales pop-up notification section that,allows us to create the um blocks so,let's open the theme editor and open the,sections folder right over here create a,new section and let's just call it sales,hyphen pop-up hyphen notification,create that file and here we'll just,change the name of the section to sales,pop up,notification,save it,and then let's open our theme that,liquid here in the layout folder,open that and then let's scroll down,until you reach the the opening of the,body tag so right over here so look for,the opening of the body tag and then,inside of it we're going to create the,section tag so section and then we're,going to reference the sales hyphen,pop-up notification,so make sure that's the name of your,section file okay,make sure they close the section tag,save it,and you can now close the theme.liquid,you don't need it anymore and let's open,our customizer page and refresh the page,and this time we should have the sales,pop-up notification section there we go,so as you can see now we have the sales,pop-up notification so the next thing,that we're going to do is to create the,blocks so we can create or use the,products of our shopify store so go back,to your theme editor,and then here underneath of the settings,we're going to create the blocks,so create the blocks,and then for its value make sure it's an,array,and then inside of this array we're,going to create a one an object,basically so create a set of curly,braces and then inside of this we're,going to create the um the name,so name of the block we'll set it to,product

Coding a Shopify header section from scratch
