hey guys i'm greta and in this video i'm,going to be going over everything that,you want to know about shopify themes,we're going to go through some tips and,we're going to go through some of the,best themes that you can be using this,year,so these are three things that i always,consider when i'm picking a shopify,theme so the first one is your product,range is it a,multi-product store or is it more a,single hero product store just because,it's going to affect the layout uh and,the overall conversion rate of the store,depending on which you end up going with,the second thing that i consider is the,niche of my store so from a design,perspective the same store won't always,suit electronics as it would suit,fashion for example so you want to have,a look again at the layout and make sure,that that layout is applicable to your,niche and the third thing and probably,the most important is prioritizing,conversion rate and so what i mean here,is like functionality over just design,so you want a theme that is fast,responsive fairly simple,and has an easy to navigate i guess like,interface so here are three shopify,themes that i would be using this year,and number one is debut and you cannot,look past this theme even though it is,kind of the most stock standard shopify,theme that is kind of where the beauty,of this theme lies as well because so,many stores use this same theme it,outperforms almost any other theme we,always try to introduce new themes or,custom coded themes uh,and we find that from a conversion rate,perspective they just do not compare to,debut so i really would not look any,further than this theme,until you're kind of at a point where,you can do enough a b testing and,conversion rate optimization to know,that your kind of like more design,orientated theme for example is,outperforming this theme so just to,really quickly show you guys through it,let's just hit view demo store while,it's really simple and straightforward,it's really really effective customers,are very used to using this theme as a,whole in fact one of our brands claytime,that's done over a million dollars in,revenue in its first few months of sales,uses this theme and while it's a really,simplistic sort of website as a whole it,converts so well,so as you can see,pretty straightforward,very straightforward very simple theme,but effective impressive,most impressive now we're gonna move on,to our dawn theme this is a theme by,shopify again so shopify,uh has designed this theme in the same,way it's designed debut says that it's,great for clothing and accessories,health and beauty home and gardens so,kind of like multi-sku stores so while,debut might have been better for kind of,a single sku store dawn is really really,great if you've got kind of like a,really broad product range so,let's view the demo store it's a really,clean sleek design definitely looks a,lot higher end as well so if maybe you,had kind of a higher perceived value,sort of product uh like especially yeah,of cour

How to pass the Theme Review Process - Theme Store Requirements

hey everyone jan here codingwithyan.com,today we are back with the second,episode of the build your own theme,series we are going to be covering what,gives you the best chances of getting,listed and also how to pass the review,process on the theme store so i hope,you're as excited as i am and then let's,have a look all right liam um yeah so,here we are again after an amazing round,of first questions the feedback has been,really good last time um yeah so what do,you think shall we answer a few more,today,let's go for it i'm super excited to,answer more questions,and you know share more insights on,everything shopify themes and the,shopify theme store,awesome sounds great and as you already,know today we've planned to dive a bit,deeper into the review and testing,process,getting your theme listed is quite a,challenge and if we can get the audience,or if we can give them the best chance,of doing so i'm sure they would,appreciate that,but maybe we should,backtrack for a second and talk about,the review process in general i'm sure,not everyone is aware of it um so would,you like to elaborate a bit,sure so essentially the theme store,review process is when your theme is,tested against our theme store,requirements to ensure that all,mandatory features are working correctly,and that the theme needs our performance,and accessibility,benchmarks so essentially the goal of,the theme review team is to help surface,as many bugs as they can so that when,the theme is published on the theme,store the experience for merchants who,install the theme is as smooth as,possible,so once a theme is submitted for review,which can be done via the partner,dashboard in the theme section,it will then be entered into a queueing,system for our theme review team to,evaluate and if your theme requires some,major changes that prevent us from,launching then you will receive an email,from our review team that contains a,private github gist where we will,outline the required changes that you,would need to make,we'll also include some notes some,general advice,and some you know opinions that we have,on how the theme could be improved,uh once you have actioned on the,uh advice that we've given um you know,if there's potentially some features,missing or you know some ux issues uh,you can make those changes and then,resubmit again,the same process through the partner,dashboard,okay so yeah maybe to summarize that,would you say the the review process is,to ensure that all the themes meet a,certain standard and that they are all,feature complete um just to give,merchants the best experience when,picking a theme from the theme store is,that right,exactly you know there is like a,baseline level set of features,and that we expect all themes in the,theme store to contain um and there's,also you know in terms of you know the,the performance and accessibility,benchmarks um there's you know a,specific high standard that,we feel all merchants are entitled to,okay awesome,and would you also like to

Hoverable Dropdown Menu | Shopify Debut Theme - ShopCode 101 [2021]

today i wanted to,make a video about how to make a hover,drop down menu in uh the debut theme,we're gonna start off here in this uh,this is like a dummy store that i set up,with this shop code 101 thing,and uh this is just gonna be like your,store's admin home page so just start,out there,then go to uh go ahead and you're gonna,edit the code of your store so you click,on online store to do that,in this left hand menu,then you're going to click on edit code,here,after you click on the actions drop down,all right now,my theme.css file is already open and,this is the file that we're using,users might not be open if that's the,case you can either search for it in the,search files uh search bar or you can go,down here,uh open up this assets folder,click on theme.css and it'll open it up,for you all right now,what we want to do,here,is we are going to scroll all the way,down to the bottom right,and then um,what you want to do is anytime you're,adding new code to like a shopify file,it's very important that you leave a,comment or this is what i do is i leave,a comment um kind of describing the,change and,that way in the future i know the code,that i've added to the theme file,and so if anything breaks i know that,it's probably my code and not a,shopify's code,and then i also know what things do what,and what i can get rid of what i can,change and whatnot it's just helpful so,i'm going to go ahead and leave a,comment which in css to do that you're,going to,do this bracket and then,or this this,slash and then and then an asterisk,right and then,i'm just going to put um like hover drop,down,hover drop,down,i don't know this is one word maybe drop,down menu,uh,and then,that,and then i also leave,a comment where the end of the code is,so,i go end hover,drop down,menu,all right so now uh we can add our code,so,i'll flash the code up on the screen but,i also have it down in the comment,section so,uh that way you can um,you can copy paste it uh so,we're gonna add this code in,and what this code does is it basically,looks at these classes this dot site nav,has drop down and then it's like saying,on the action and or on the hover and,focus actions,it's gonna change this these classes uh,display attributes to block right and,that basically means it's like just,gonna display them right um and so when,we go to this drop down menu,which if we look at it right now,yeah so right now it's it's um this is,like my dummy site or whatever uh right,now basically,when we we have to click this catalog to,bring up these collections and the,behavior we want is we want to hover,over it and the collections will just,pop down right so,once we add this here and we go ahead,and save,uh now if we refresh this,it should yeah see now it's popping up,right,uh the issue is now though is that it's,popping up but if we try to move our,mouse down to the collections because,we're not getting there fast enough,see that time i did but,other times if i don't get there fast,enough basically it's

[Custom HTML in Shopify] How To Create Custom Section For Raw HTML

welcome to my youtube channel with another shopify tutorial,where we will be learning how to add a new custom section,with the ability to add raw html so all of the free themes in shopify,do not have a section where we can add raw html,today we will learn how we can copy a current current existing section and,create a new section using the same code and changing the code to make it usable,for raw html so we'll be we'll be able to add raw html and,shopify okay let's go to the backend,we'll navigate to the back end by going to slash admin,we'll go to online store by the way this is one of my clients website,we do maintain this for this and enhance the layout okay we will go to,customize,debut is a free theme of shopify in this theme we do not have the ability,to add raw html so for example if we click on,add section we do not see any,section where we can add raw html,so what we're gonna do we will go to the code of this theme and we will create a,new section by which we can add raw html,okay let's go back to the admin,click on online store edit code of the theme,here we can see all of the chords for the theme,and these are all the sections which we were seeing on the customize section,now we will create a new section let's call it raw html,here we have our new section ready,we'll copy the code from rich text section,here's the code for rich text section so we will copy it,paste it on our newly created section raw html,and rename it to call grow html,let's rename only english version for,now,uh,rename it here so we will be renaming it,on two lines one is line number 23.,and the other is line number 256 after renaming the section we will go to,line number 111 here's the line number and replace,the rich text with text area hit save and now let's go to our,customize to see if it's working,okay i'm open the customize section and now i'm gonna click on add section,that's the latest section which we created,click on that click add,and there we go as you can see we can add,we can remove the heading if we don't need that and we can replace this text,with our own custom html so for example if we,need to add another div,h1,paragraph element,try adding h3,as you can see now we can easily add raw html to,our through our section,that's it for the tutorial i hope you guys like this tutorial please let me,know in the comments below if you want me to create more shopify tutorial for,you and do not forget to click the subscribe,and hit the bell icon so you'll be notified whenever i create,new videos have a great day

How to add custom fonts in Shopify with any theme | Easy Way

How to Add Font Icons to Shopify Theme

i'm going to show you how do you add,additional font,icons to your shopify theme,now the free themes that shopify offers,they do have their own set of icons like,we see,in the upper right hand corner here,and down below in the footer,however the available icons are,are limited in what you have what i'm,going to show you is how do you,import your own font icon library and,use those fonts,now the library that we're going to use,is called font awesome it's a pretty,popular font library,it has a lot of different fonts if you,go up into the icons here,click on that link you'll see we have,a lot of icons if you click on the free,only there is a pro version that you can,pay for but if you click on the free on,the left hand side here you'll see,all of the different icons that you have,available to you,what i'm going to do and even more than,this if you load more icons,many more will show up,we're going to import this into our,shopify theme so we have access to every,single one of these icons,now how do you do that first thing that,you'll want to do,is we're going to reach out to what's,called a,cdn font awesome cdn,and what cdns are are basically,let me we'll choose a different one,besides this bootstrap cdn let's do this,cdn,js right here the second link,in our search here what this allows us,to do,is it allows us to point to,this library so someone here this,website is hosting that library for us,and we can just point to it,by going to this url,now what i'm going to do is i'm going to,click on this little middle icon right,here,this middle icon what that's going to do,it's going to copy,this url,and if we go to our shopify theme files,i'm going to click into debut,edit code,and the first thing that we want to do,is we want to open up our theme,liquid files so go into layout theme,liquid file,where do we want to paste this code,let's paste it,somewhere in our head let's do it right,after this right after these,other links here,ctrl paste now it's a pretty long piece,of code,that's okay don't worry too much about,that,but we are now pointing to the library,ctrl s to save it,now let's test this out let's go and,grab,any icon i'm going to click on one,and you'll see here if i click,in this piece of code it's going to copy,that code,and that way i can paste it so i'm just,going to click on this to copy this html,code right here,and let's go find where we can,use this icon i'm going to open up my,sections here maybe we'll go into the,footer let's click on the footer here,because we see that we have an icon down,below here maybe,we want to add more icons maybe we want,to add some,payment icons so we scroll all the way,down,right on line 300 or 320,i'm just within this div i'm just going,to paste it in there it doesn't really,matter where we paste it in we just want,to see that it's working,paste in my code save it,refresh the page,oh that might be the wrong spot let me,go and grab a different spot,and you see social icons maybe in here,this might be better so

hey everyone jan here codingwithyan.com,so today we have the first episode of,our sell your own theme series and all,of you have been asking tons of great,questions so please keep doing so this,project can only be as good as the,community is and you guys are amazing so,appreciate everyone watching and now,it's time for some answers so let's dive,right in,all right liam then thanks so much for,taking the time today as you know we're,here to answer some of the most burning,questions that people have,are you feeling good about it as well,i'm feeling great jan thanks for having,me here um,obviously a huge fan of the channel and,uh yeah any opportunity i can have to to,share the good word of the shopify theme,store um is is my absolute pleasure um,yeah then maybe as an entry point to our,conversation one of the most burning,topics or one of the most requested,topics was like what is the best way to,create a theme which kind of ties into,two subcategories the concept then the,actual development like workflows tools,and everything,so why don't we talk about the concept,first and,what is the thing or what can we give,people on the way in order to come up,with an amazing concept should we talk,about that,yeah i think that's a great place to,start,so i think the the first thing to really,think about is to really dive into how,merchants and how buyers will interact,with a theme,and and also consider how it's different,to design for a marketplace versus,designing for an individual client,so with an individual client you're very,commonly going to be requesting or being,asked for specific settings whereas in,theme store,these settings are,a little bit more generic um they're not,requested specifically by any merchants,um so merchants may be encountering uh,these features and functionality for the,first time um so i'd really you know,before even writing a line of code um,you know think about the the buyer,journey think about the merchant journey,and how,you know all of these people will,interact with the theme with the online,store editor,and you know think about know you're not,really designing just a storefront,for a buyer to,pick a product and take it to the cart,and check out you're also,essentially designing a ui that,merchants will be using to,bring their store to life,and and ideally with the the minimal,amount of friction possible,okay yeah i think that's a very good,point because as you know many merchants,don't have a strong technical background,then the settings have to be very,straightforward i mean this all ties to,usability i think that's what we are,trying to trying to get across here,um yeah so would you have any tips or,maybe how could someone approach that,would you recommend maybe using tools,like or like design tools to come up,with the visual concept first or would,you just be diving head first and,writing lines of code how would you,approach that yeah so i think there's a,few different methods um but i would,definitely advise,um investing
