hey everyone jan here codingwithyan.com,today i want to give you a quick but yet,very important update on some of the,changes coming to shopify's free themes,we are going to be covering the new,themes that are coming what features you,can expect and also how to migrate from,older themes is going to be particularly,important if you're an agency a,freelancer or shopify partner because,you just need to know how this is going,to impact merchants so then i would say,let's have a look alright so by now,you're probably all familiar with the,new dawn theme it was the first theme to,support the online store 2.0 features,and it's also the new default theme when,you create a store from scratch,in direct comparison to the older free,themes don is also a very fast and,lightweight theme yeah i guess we all,know how performance and page speed is,always a major concern for merchants,right and you can also use dawn to learn,more about the new theme architecture or,how to build themes in a very web native,way and it can even be used as a,starting point for building your own,themes which is pretty cool,okay but now why am i telling you all of,this what is changing in 2022,at the first announcement starting from,today you will find three new themes,sitting next to dawn,and the way these were created is that,they were forked from dawn's github repo,and then each of the themes is,pre-configured for one of the top,merchant industries so don will be an,apparel theme,then craft for home and decor stores,crave there will be a theme for beverage,and the food industry,and sends there will be for the health,and beauty niche,and when we say pre-configured it means,that they will all share the same,sections and the same settings but the,pre-configuration or the default,configuration is really focused on one,specific industry and to give an example,here the crave theme which is for food,and beverage they will have a,collapsible tab with ingredients on the,product page and in the same way they,all have their own visual styles their,own branding per default to support,their industry and to help merchants get,started more quickly,all right then we can also talk a bit,about the new features and first of all,all these themes will have a slideshow,section which was heavily requested for,dawn,and then there will also be more styling,options on a global level as you know,every theme has section specific options,and then also the global theme settings,and here you will be able to make,changes to borders or control the,shadows of different elements things,like the opacity width radius offset and,so forth and this would apply to,different components like product cards,or buttons for example then we will also,have more settings on a section level,and just to name one example here on the,product page within the main section we,can now choose between different layout,options which gives more control over,how much size the media occupies or how,thumbnails are being displayed,and of course the

Using dynamic sources in your product and page templates

hi everyone this is tim from,milehighthemes.com and in this video i'm,going to show you how to create custom,product and page templates using meta,fields as opposed to creating alternate,templates,this functionality is supported in all,of our themes that support online store,2.0 functionality,so first of all i'm going to go ahead,and customize my theme here in this,scenario i'm using the galleria theme,but it works the same for all of our,themes,so i need to go to a product page so i,can do that by either clicking through,here the navigation to get to the,product page or i can use this drop down,menu,i'm going to click products,and we can see the custom product,templates that we've already created,i'm going to go ahead and go to a,default product so i can see what just a,regular product is set to look like in,this theme,so we've got a pretty typical product,layout here with a product gallery here,the title pricing and the ability to add,it to the cart,beyond that we have this image here with,some heading and regular text,and then another image with some text,over here,we've got some testimonials we've got,some related products,and we've got another image with text,section here,so,this is what every product page that's,using the default product template will,look like obviously this information,will change depending on which product,we're viewing but everything else,is going to be static with the exception,of these related products,because that's pulled in using shopify's,recommendation engine,but all these other sections that were,added manually over here are going to,have the same images and the same text,on every product page,so this may or may not work for you,if it does work great if it doesn't you,could create a unique product template,for every single product and drag and,drop your own sections to each one but,that's pretty tedious,and if you want to reuse some functions,like for example this image here,is just about saying that our products,are locally made with a background image,of san francisco,so this is kind of global content that,you might want on every product page,but this this might be like a feature of,the product for example,and maybe you want to have the same,section on each one but you want this,text to be different and this image to,be different,so in this case we can use meta fields,to do that,so i'll show you how to do that now,so the first thing i'm going to do is,i'm going to go ahead and create a,duplicate product template,so i go back to products and i click,create template,and in this situation i'm just going to,call this meta fields you can call this,whatever you want just whatever makes it,easy for you to remember,i'm going to base it on the default,product since that's what we're using to,you to preview,create template,so now i'm going to exit out of here for,a moment i'm going to go back to the,product,and i'm going to locate this key ring,product because we may as well use that,so there's the key ring,and i'm just

How To Make Custom Shopify Layout Templates, Sections, and Themes

hi everyone Scott here with the five day,startup today I'm gonna do a quick video,on how to create custom themes in,Shopify so we're working with debut and,basically what this means is if you want,to make a page so we'll go in here I,gotta float the video alright so if you,wanna make a custom page so I'm just an,opening a new tab so normally you would,go create new page over here so I'll,just do this test so then you'd create,test page and then hi,and then theme is gonna be the default,which is what they bu gives you or,Shopify gives you and this trick will,work for all the themes or at least all,the custom or standard free Shopify,themes so I'll go ahead and save that so,then the problem with this is you all,havin a user interface you just have,this to control and edit the page and,then you can do code here but when you,go to view it it's very basic it's just,gonna be HTML and it's not very user,friendly so if we go in here that's the,test page so now we're going to do is,we're going to go into our themes,customize so this is gonna bring you,into it's kind of be your user interface,slide and basically for your homepage,you have all of these really easy click,and drop kind of user interface for,Shopify but none of the other pages had,that and what we're trying to do is get,the other pages to have a custom theme,like that where you can edit them very,easily by basically clicking dragging,and dropping photos in short bits of,HTML in different sections things like,that well that's loading we can view so,basically this is what I'm talking about,this is one I'm gonna use for example,but this section basically wouldn't be,here so you wouldn't have this or this,and so that's what we're trying to add,in is your different sections basically,that's called a page theme so you can go,here there we go so you can see that the,homepage has a whole bunch of options,here and that's by default on any of,those themes I didn't give you a whole,bunch of really cool features but that's,not anywhere else and that's just,basically because the coding is a little,bit complicated so if we go to our test,page I'll show you,so you can see there's nothing here and,the whole goal is to actually get,something into there so what we're gonna,do is you can couple ways get there I'm,gonna go here and then edit code so guys,this doesn't actually take a lot of,coding it's all copy and paste you just,need to know where to edit things it's,pretty simple there's I think one line,of code that I'm going to give you so,mine has a bunch of themes already so,what I'm gonna go ahead and do is I'm,gonna look at one that I already created,and you guys obviously don't have this,but I'll put the line of code in there,for you I in the description you'll see,this line but it's basically you're just,copying pasting this so look down for,that button so then this is your actual,theme so under templates we're just,doing new and then you wanna go down to,page because we're doing it pages you,could do it
