Vario 1918 Trench Watch Review

hey guys welcome back,as you can see here we have the 1918,trench watch from,verio it's traveled around the world,it's also landed on our doorstep,and it's a very interesting design very,legible,beautiful finish i'm going to have a,good close look at it today so,let's run the intro let's get stuck into,the review of this 1918 trench watch,from verio,okay welcome back everybody so like i,said uh this has traveled,around the world it's been to a lot of,different reviewers,in fact jody from just one more watch,has sent this out to me,uh ivan asked me if i can have a look at,it myself what do i think and,look i'm glad he's asked me to have a,look at it it's an interesting watch,i like what they've done i like what,they've done with this because uh,this is basically historical for us guys,it's uh you know the first wrist watches,pretty much,started you know in the trenches uh back,in world war one and uh,this is symbolic of that uh what they're,trying to do a hundred or so years later,is basically designer watch that um you,know pays homage to that and,it's it's quite nice it's lovely i think,ivan's done a great job here with its,legibility,the size being a 37 mil watch uh,you know it's pretty much true to form,of that period that era and,obviously they brought it into the 21st,century by putting you know sapphire,crystal,automatic hacking and all the rest so,but look let's get into the specs of,this watch let's see what it does offer,it's basically a 37 millimeter case uh,case,diameter with a case height the specs,say 10 mil but i measure it in at 11.6,all the way to the top of that dome,sapphire crystal it has a 44 millimeter,lug to lug distance,with an 18mm lug width now if you notice,the lugs themselves there they're,actually fixed lugs they're called,wired lugs and uh they're basically a,super strong super solid,so you know designed similar to what,they would have in the day you know back,in the trenches,they they basically had uh wrist or i,should say pocket watches,that they would have welded lugs on,something like this to be able to put it,on the wrist,so speaking of the wrist let's put this,on the wrist and see what it looks like,okay so there you go so that's what it,says like on my seven inch wrist being a,37 mil it's,relatively small but the fact that,they've got it on a boot strap i like it,i like it it's quite nice it basically,brings the watch up it,creates a bigger presence and so forth,but the strap itself if you look at uh,you know i've got a seven inch wrist and,on basically let's have a look here i'm,down to the,third third last hole on that strap so,if i had a seven and a half or possibly,a bigger wrist,i might struggle with this particular,strap so that's just something to note,but for anyone smaller six six you know,a quarter or six inch wrist,five and a five inch wrist you won't,have a problem so but,look it sits quite nice a little bit,proud obviously,with that bun strap and i measure it,i'll take it off just to show you guys,

Vario 1918 Trench Watch Review:

so today i'll be taking a look at one of,the newest release from one of my,favorite micro brands,vario and this was a pretty successful,kickstarter campaign,their various world war one trench watch,um i was pretty excited to get it in so,let's take a look at we have a diameter,of 36.9 a lug to lug of about 44.2 a,height of 12,and a lug width of 18 millimeters some,other general specifications for the,watch we have the mioda,82s5 movement beating away in here it is,hacking and hand winding which is nice,to see it's a little grainy,but you know it is a more affordable,movement there we go hacking there it is,not quite as loud as some other miyota,movements are but you still do,hear the rotor from time to time uh,mine's running pretty decently around,like 10 seconds a day or so you have 100,meters of water resistance with a screw,down crown,which is really nice to see so have a,double domed sapphire crystal there,with inner air coating beautiful little,sapphire and,c3 loom applied to the hands and,the markers all around and last but not,least,this retails for around the 300 mark,right now it's 3,13 i believe on the vario website,and i think like 350 or something is,retail so,not badly priced at all one thing that,is nice about this movement that i,didn't mention before,it is it is a true no date so there is,no ghost position,which is really nice moving into the,dial here we can see we have this very,legible dial it is,based off of like the world war one,style of watches which were very legible,they were meant to be so because they,served a function more than anything,we have this very bold typeface for the,plain numerals,very prominent i think they're well,proportioned for the size of the dial,simple varial logo up top there nicely,balanced out by this sub seconds,marker or sub second style sorry,one thing to note again this dial is,enamel so you get this nice beautiful,deep,rich black tone which obviously catches,reflections like crazy everywhere,we get this nice bright white section,for the sub seconds,with this nice black painted track,we also have the railroad track along,the outside here very small a little bit,more discreet very nicely executed,cathedral handset which is again old,world styling,reminiscent of older watches pretty,nicely done overall no,complaints there and just to note we do,have c3 super luminova and i don't know,how well,it's coming across in this lighting but,it is a slightly different shade than,the white of the,enamel sub seconds so that's just,something to know clean design it,doesn't use any text it doesn't need,because the only text on there is vario,i think everything looks very nice it is,just a good looking nicely designed,watch overall zooming in a little closer,we can see vario doing this nice bright,white font,that matches really nicely with the,white enamel sub seconds,we can see the actual numbers are,outlined in this black,text to give them a little bit more,contrast which is a nice touch,it also has this litt

Vario Silver Empire Review

hello everyone and welcome to watch,complications I am Brian this is a watch,review video of the Vario silver Empire,before I get into the details on that,make sure you subscribe if you haven't,and I also want to give you a couple,little snippets of what's coming up,first I want to show you a custom dial,custom watch project that you're gonna,see some content on soon on both the,blog in the site and I want to give you,at least a sneak peek at this I'm really,having a great time working on this,particular watch I want to give you just,a an example up close look of this dial,this is just one of the test dials it's,got some imperfections and stuff but,this is going to be a project that I,share with you about how I've gone about,building it from cutting this custom,window for the second time zone to doing,the printing and this is hand applied,loom so I can't wait to show you more,about this project that I'm building for,a client that'll be in the custom dials,and custom watches series probably a,little bit of both,so that's one thing second is I've got a,great incoming this week that I'll be,reviewing fairly soon,it's a grand Seiko SB ge 249 le it's a,spring drive gmt movement i cannot wait,to get this watch into my possession and,i'll have a wonderful review and with it,being a grand Seiko the up-close macro,shots are going to be spectacular so i,can't wait on that but for this video if,you recall not that long ago i had a how,to video on swapping out switching,replacing a hand wound watch movement,and that was because i got sent a Vario,silver empire by ivan who is the owner,and operator of the micro brand REO it's,based in singapore and the review watch,i got wasn't working the movement had,been abused in some way either,overwhelmed or took a hard hit or,something but Ivan said if you can fix,it then you can keep it and so I ordered,up a replacement movement and I got it,working and now this is the proper,review so Thank You Ivan for letting me,have this watch and this is going to,give you an up-close review the specs,and information about this Vario watch,now before I get into it I want to say,one thing about it that's wrist check,for today I'm out,I'm wearing black today glasses got,black shirts so I'm wearing my,Christopher Ward's see a power reserve,chronometer I love this watch and that,has the s age 21 movements gotta five,day power Reserve love it,aviation style watch one of the biggest,in my collection in terms of the size 44,millimeter but I got a review on that as,well the only reason I'm not wearing the,Vario today is cuz I'm wearing black and,not blue if I was wearing blue I'm,probably wearing the Vario so I have a,selection of watches in my collection,that are you know blue and silver tones,white tones and things like that and you,know how much you like a watch by how,much it works itself into your rotation,right you can only wear one main watch,through today I mean I do multiple,switches through the day but you know,how much you like

Vario WW1 Trench watch review - brilliant and different

so,hi and welcome to another watch geek,video today,we're taking a look at a new model from,vario the 1918 trench watch,this is a faithful recreation of trench,watches from world war 1,but with the more modern dimensions and,modern materials,the trench watch is considered the,origin of men's wrist watches as back,then,wristwatches were reserved for women and,considered jewelry,while men wore pocket watches during the,world war one,officers realized taking out a pocket,watch while fully dressed for combat,and wearing gloves was a bit impractical,so they simply welded pieces of wire,onto their pocket watches,allowing them to pull a leather strap,through it and wear them,on their wrists soon manufacturers,responded making dedicated trench,watches,that featured the welded lugs big easy,to read arabic numerals,and large hands this watch is a,recreation of those watches,although it has been upped in size to 37,millimeters in diameter,while the original trench watches were,often 33 to 34.,with a locked log of under 45 and a very,slim case of 11 millimeters,it is very comfortable to wear and suits,my 6.7 inch wrist perfectly,the watch is supplied with a bun strap,and although it does make it more,historically correct,i prefer wearing it without the extra,padding as it sits closer to the wrist,the only problem with this exact strap,when worn without the padding is that,the screw,used to hold the strap to the watch,sometimes,itches my wrist something they could,solve by making the screw,rounded instead of squared off as it is,now,it is not a big deal and i can't really,blame vario for it,as they intended this to be worn with,the padding,other than that the 18 millimeter,leather strap,is very comfortable supple and looks,great,almost matching the hour markers in,color,the case itself is very simple rounded,with brushed finish on the case,and a polished bezel that continues to,the curved sapphire crystals seamlessly,the crystal features inner ar only just,the way i like it,the dial is the real star of the show,and no matter how much i tried,i couldn't capture just how beautiful it,looks in person,made out of enamel it has a milky and,warm color,like you can see the layer upon layer of,enamel,it really looks special and gives a,luxury vibe to the whole watch,the printed minute track and the sub,dial also exude luxury as they have,substance and are glossy playing with,the light,the watch comes in many dial variants,with some being historically more,correct,like the black tile white numerals one,and the white on white,with a red twelve but this white with,orange version,is the most interesting and most,striking to me,the hour markers themselves are massive,with the color ranging from mustard,yellow to orange,depending on the light and they make,reading the time,very easy i especially love the way the,minute hand reaches the outer minute,track with precision,and matches the hashes in thickness it,is a small detail,but one that makes for a great effect,and makes

Fix Those Nasty ND Filter Colour Casts - feat. Nisi True Colour ND Filter

photo filters are bits of glass the,least you'd expect is for it to do its,job of filtering out stuff right nd,filters are supposed to block light now,and that's useful for a number of,different applications video being one,of them long exposure photography then,you've got graduated nd filters for,bringing down the exposure of the sky,but it's not always so simple to darken,your exposure and not get a shady color,cast,to make something that's so dark to,block light out but still lets them in,without having some color bias is,actually quite difficult it's fine for,shades but a bit shady not so tasty for,nd filters because you want your colors,looking exactly as you saw them even,though it's got neutral in a name quite,often what you get is not quite so,neutral the problem is quite often worse,with variable endies and it's not,necessarily the case of all cheap,filters give color casts sometimes it's,the expensive ones too there's the lee,big stopper which could be a really good,name for anybody called lee who's a,goalkeeper but this,is the creme de la creme of nd filters,but it also adds a big ass blue cast to,your photo too but it's to be expected,that there are some trade-offs when,there's so much stopping power well,that's all nice and well but you still,have to deal with the color cast issue,right now the simplest easiest most,obvious thing to do is to buy an nd,filter that doesn't have a color cast,conveniently nissi the sponsor of this,video has a filter worth looking at,yes this is called the true color,because the colors are true and there,are no color casts,it is true,the color,there's no casts philtron looks as close,to filter off as you could want it's,nice because i like the practicalities,of variable endings but i've not been,that keen on using them for photos,because of some issues with very wendy's,such as color casts,as you can see we've won the filters,that i own right here from syrup you can,see the color cast there which looks,like they've probably applied syrup to,the front of the nd filter,probably,not but it's not just wood trees also,very important that skin colors are not,made to look off once you've put your,filter on your lens but look if you,already got an nd filter that serves up,healthy dose of color casts there are,fixes another thing you do is set the,counter auto white balance but sometimes,it still doesn't work i mean with the,lee big stopper,it still looks blue it's such a stop of,epic proportions that even stops your,auto white balance wow,another thing you could do is to set a,custom white balance when you've got,your filter on to pick out neutral gray,within the scene or you could use one of,these but the trouble is when you've got,this dark bit of glass in front of your,lens sometimes it's hard to pick out,neutral gray within your scene and if,you didn't try to do anything about it,before taking the shot there are some,solutions afterwards with your software,either lightroom or photoshop you can,adjust those sl

How to: Troubleshooting & Recalibrating Vario, Vario W

hi I'm Pierce gents with brats of,support today we're going to,troubleshoot a grind quality issue on a,varial series grinder as well as,recalibrate the verse first remove the,hopper from the top of the unit do this,by rotating a hopper counterclockwise,and lifting off notice I had no beans in,the hopper when I was removing it take,care to empty the hopper beans or if you,have the shut-off offered turn the valve,to the closed position now that the,hopper is off we can inspect the upper,carrier the upper bird carrier is the,silver round piece of metal that has,three wings coming off a bit this piece,on the grinder must be rotated fully,counterclockwise for the grinder to,perform correctly currently the upper,bird is rotated all the way clockwise,and the grinder would only produce a,coarse grind go ahead and use the burr,installation tool to lock it fully,counterclockwise into place when locked,all the way into place you will see that,the tab on this metal upper carrier Lots,up against the creamy white gearbox tab,rotate your upper berth fully,counterclockwise to lock it into,position now that the upper burr is,verified to be locked into place we can,reinstall the hopper and check and,adjust the calibration of the verse now,that we verified the upper bird is,locked into place we're ready to check,the bird touch time of the grinder,the first step to check in the bird,touch time is dropping both lever arms,down to the courses setting next we're,going to power on the motor and while,the motor is running we're going to,adjust the right lever up to the two,setting and then the left lever up to,the top of the scale or,till we hear a change in noise whatever,comes first when the grinder is running,empty of beans a change in noise heard,at the fine grind settings is the burrs,beginning to contact each other the,factory setting is to have a burr,contact time of 2q let's check the,calibration of this very of W and adjust,it if needed to power the motor on a,Vario W grinder the hopper must be,installed and locked all the way,clockwise into place the button sequence,is tear 1 and then start to power on the,motor if you are working with a varial,grinder the button sequence will be,manual and then start both lever arms,are all the way down,on this grinder I'm hearing a change in,noise at about setting 2h the factory,calibration is at about setting to cue,we need to tighten the calibration just,a little bit we want to limit the amount,of time the grinder runs empty of beans,with the burrs touching a few seconds of,Burr and burr contact is not a concern,the ceramic burrs are quite resilient,however if they run against each other,for an extended period of time,they will begin to heat and wear will be,accelerated begin by adjusting the,grinder - setting to cue you can hear,the birds do not contact currently at,this setting,I'll underneath the grinder there's the,ground discharge port this is where the,ground coffee falls out of the grinder,and into your bin directly
