Ads conversion tracking tutorial! We will cover ,the dedicated Google Ads conversion tracking
tag and compare this to importing conversions ,from Google Analytics. I'll show you how to do
this with both versions of Google Analytics, ,so Universal Analytics, and the latest
version, Google Analytics 4 (or GA4 for ,short). You will learn about the other types

If you don't take the time to configure conversion ,tracking, then you won't be able to report on the
performance of your campaigns inside your account. ,And you will also need conversions if you want to
use automated bidding strategies or campaigns that ,rely on machine learning, like Performance

resources in the description below this video. ,There are two options for tracking website
conversions into your Google Ads account. We can ,create a dedicated Google Ads conversion tag, or
we can import conversions from Google Analytics. ,But which one should you use? If you need to
get up and running quickly and you're already ,reporting conversions in Google Analytics,
then importing conversions is a good option. ,It means you won't need to add extra code to your
website and it's pretty easy to set up as we will ,see in a moment. However, for more accurate
reporting of your conversions in Google Ads, ,I recommend using the dedicated Google Ads
conversion tag. It will require more time ,to set up, but it will provide more accurate
results compared to importing conversions from ,Google Analytics. Let me explain why... Someone
searches on Google, and then clicks your ad... ,They've come to your website from Google Ads. Then
they convert... If we were using the dedicated ,Google Ads conversion tag, then we would see
a conversion in Google Ads... And if we were ,importing conversions from Google Analytics, then
we would also see a conversion in Google Ads... ,Okay, so that's fine. Both options are accurate,
but now let's look at another example... Someone ,else searched on Google, and then clicks your
ad... So they've come to your website from Google ,Ads, but then they leave... And they come back to
your website using a link they found in a post on ,Facebook... Then they convert... If we were using
the dedicated Google Ads conversion tag, then we ,would see a conversion in Google Ads... But if we
were importing conversions from Google Analytics, ,no conversion would be reported in Google Ads...

what's up everyone welcome to the,surfside ppc youtube channel today i'm,going to go over google ads conversion,tracking now before we get started into,anything i want you to keep in mind that,if you're using a platform like shopify,they're going to have articles like this,on their help center that's based,entirely around google ads conversion,tracking so if you're using woocommerce,you can use a plug-in like the,woocommerce pixel manager this will,allow you to easily set up conversion,tracking on your website if you're using,shopify you can follow their guide if,you're using bigcommerce or any of these,other large e-commerce providers you can,easily set up google ads conversion,tracking i would highly recommend going,directly to their help pages because i'm,not going to go over each individual way,to track conversions for every different,platform what i'm going to be showing,you today is how to track an order,confirmation or a lead confirmation page,so when someone visits this confirmation,page they're only going to get to this,page if they fill out this form that i,have on my website so if i were to,create for example a farmhouse goals,drop shipping program what i can do is,make a form like this and when someone,enters all their information and clicks,on submit it's going to actually,redirect them directly to this,confirmation page so then i can use this,confirmation page as a conversion so,every time someone visits this page that,means they filled out my form so for,example if you're selling an online,product maybe it's an e-book maybe it's,an online course or something like that,when someone visits the confirmation,page after they purchase your product,you can use that page as a conversion,it's the same way if you're selling,tickets or if you're booking travel,there's always going to be that,confirmation page and this page is,commonly used as a conversion page so,i'm going to show you today exactly how,to set this up from the very beginning,so if you don't have any pixels,installed on your website or anything,i'm going to show you how to get started,with this and then how to import that,conversion into your google ads account,so that you can actually optimize your,campaigns for conversions like mine are,here so to get started what i would,recommend doing is using google tag,manager so go to tag manager.google.com,and make sure you create a free account,and when you create your free account,the first thing it's going to tell you,to do is install google tag manager so,what you need to do is enter these two,pixels this first one goes in between,your header tags and the second one goes,immediately after the opening body tag,so if you're using wordpress what you,want to do is use a plugin like head,footer and post injections and then all,you need to do is go into your plugin,page so you can see this is the head,footer and post injections page and take,the initial pixel at the very top so,this first one here you want to copy it,and just come into t

Google ads provides a number of ways for,you to track your landing page URLs so,many so that a number of people get a,little bit confused on them so in this,video I want to help demystify some of,the Google ads tracking talk through the,tracking templates custom parameters and,a number of other pieces to help you,make sure that you're tracking,performance as best as possible,I first want to preface this video by,saying that I know that utilizing the,conversion and remarketing pixels are,very important for Google ads campaigns,but I'm not going to be talking about,pixels in this video specifically I'm,going to assume that you already have,those set up but if you're interested in,learning how to do that you can check,out the video at the top of the screen,right now now with that out of the way I,want to start diving into the in,platform adjustments you can make for,your tracking in Google ads the first,piece we need to do is make sure that we,have the proper tracking setup and there,are a couple of different ways that we,can do this if you're familiar with,digital marketing at all you're probably,aware that you can use URL parameters,and there's also such thing as Auto,tagging within a Google ads campaign so,let's hop into the account level,settings for the paid media Pros Google,ads account and I'll start to talk,through each of those to find the,account level settings you just need to,come over here on the left go to,settings and then choose the account,settings down below and the first thing,I want to talk about is Auto tagging,that's going to be this one right here,in the middle and you can see that our,account is already opted into it it's a,very easy simple check box that you just,have to check and then you're finished,with it you can see here that that will,tag the URL that people click through my,ad now one misconception about Auto,tagging in Google ads is that it applies,all of the UTM parameters that you would,need for tracking in Google analytics,that's not actually the case so I'm,going to hop into a help article real,quick and I'll show you what it does,instead,I'm going to focus on this first,paragraph in the how it works section,when you apply Auto tagging to your,account Google will apply a Google click,ID or Google click identifier to the end,of your url so that it will communicate,with the Google analytics platform so as,you can see here if your url is,www.example.com with auto tagging on,your url will look like this once it,actually loads there will be this,additional GCL ID equals parameter with,an alphanumeric code after it that will,tell Google analytics the campaign,keyword device all of the different,types of information pieces behind the,Google ads campaign that that user came,from but it's only going to use this,Google click ID it will not utilize the,UTM parameters or any additional values,that you would need to track anything,outside of the Google analytics platform,now what that means is a couple of,things first I will

hey i'm lewis and in this video i'm,actually going to show you how to set up,google ads custom parameters i'm going,to teach you about utm tracking and show,you some best tips and strategies that,we use when tracking results for our,clients on google ads campaigns so why,are utms and proper tracking and also,stuff so important if you just want to,run google ads campaigns well it's,actually something that's often,overlooked or set up incorrectly when,running these campaigns and it helps you,identify which leads and sales came from,which keyword source medium all this,other jazz so you can optimize around,that further past just the g click which,only tells you which campaign is,converted this is especially useful if,you're using third-party tools like,salesforce or marketo or you're looking,at your data through analytics as well,it helps break down exactly where those,leads and opportunities came from so you,can now optimize around it so let me,just jump into my screen really quick,show you some common use cases and teach,you a little bit about utms alright,let's go so before i jump into google,ads and show you step by step how to set,this up let's just cover really quickly,what are utms so fun fact utm actually,stands for urchin tracking module and,this is a software company that google,actually purchased in 2005 and that,later became the foundations for what we,use as google analytics so it's,basically just you know a shortened,version of their company proprietary,tracking module so we actually require,our team members to have utms on every,single campaign before turning them on,there's a big reason why it saves us so,much headache further down the line and,helps us optimize a ton because now we,can see a lot more parameters inside any,kind of lead dashboard or third-party,sales tools like salesforce to figure,out where our biggest value leads,actually came from or what other,parameters they actually converted on,i'll show you that in a second but let's,first cover what this format looks like,so this is a basic tracking template to,use go ahead and check the description,i'm going to include this code if you,just want to copy and paste it and just,not watch further that's fine but i want,to show you also how to use dynamic,parameters i think it does make sense to,keep watching but basically,lpurl stands for landing page url what's,going to happen is when you put this,tracking template on someone clicks on,your ad google automatically switches,these out with the actual landing page,that they clicked on the ad for and then,same thing for the device if they were,on a desktop or a tablet or mobile it'll,switch out the word device with mobile,desktop or tablet and then if you want,to know the source we like to put google,adsense as a google ads campaign that,helps you a lot when you're looking,through analytics to see where the,source of traffic is coming from ad,group id that's also populated,automatically campaign id and creative,and things like that
