How to Use Dropbox Selective Sync - Save Computer Hard Drive Space

so I'm going to show you here how you,can only have certain files in Dropbox,sync to your computer so that you don't,take up a ton of computer hard drive and,slow it down so I'm in my main Dropbox,folder online right now and you can see,I just have a ton of files here alright,so I do access a lot of these some of,them I just want to have handy on my,computer so I want them to to sync but I,do what I did is I took everything that,I never look at like really old files,I'm sure you have a ton of those sitting,on your computer never look at and I,made sure they synced into or remove,them into a folder that I call cold,storage and this is stuff I never look,at but I wanted to keep and you see I,organized it the same way it had been on,my computer on my hard drive and for,instance and documents I just have tons,of stuff never look at it but don't want,to get rid of it so then if I go back up,I will show you what that looks like on,the computer itself so I have my fold my,Windows Explorer here let me just go,into Dropbox and you'll see all those,files except there's no cold storage,folder here because I don't have it,syncing to the computer so the way you,set that up is first make sure you have,everything online in your Dropbox folder,online that was the the website so make,sure you've synced everything there then,go into your little Dropbox icon in the,bottom right here you can kind of see it,click on that and then what you want to,do is go into your settings so you click,on your little profile picture I am,currently doing some thinking but you,click on preferences and then in,preferences in preferences you want to,go into,into sync right I don't use smart sync,this is something that's that Dropbox,has it's supposed to decide for you,which things they think or not based on,how often you use it I prefer to do the,selective sync and if I click on,selective sync it loads up everything,you have in Dropbox and you can pick,which ones you want to peer on the,computer so it says unselected files,won't appear on the computer so I,selected everything and then I went down,to my cold storage folder and I D,selected that so now that cold storage,folder let me open that up again will,not show on your computer so that's it,and again what I said was that you have,to make sure you have everything up on,Dropbox online first put everything that,you don't want to have sync into one,folder and then go into those settings,in the little Dropbox icon go into your,your preferences go into sync and then,go into selective sync and pick which,ones you want to have show up on your,computer or not and that will save you a,ton of time and then whenever you're,creating a new file on your computer if,you make sure you save it into a folder,on Dropbox then you just never have to,worry about anything getting lost or,your computer crashing if you just have,everything in Dropbox including the ones,you never look at

File Server to File Server Synchronization over Cloud Storage

my name is david deluca i'm a senior,storage solutions architect,at amazon web services i'm here to talk,about a recent enhancement to aws data,sync,which enables you to perform fully,automated data transfers,between amazon storage services with,just a few clicks in the data sync,console,let's get started aws data sync is an,online data transfer service,that simplifies automates and,accelerates,moving data between on-premises storage,systems,and aws storage services,data sync allows fast data transfer it,is easy to use,it is secure and reliable it is a fully,managed aws service,and it is cost effective in addition to,transferring data between your,on-premises storage,and aws storage services data sync can,also transfer data between,amazon storage services these include,amazon s3 amazon efs,and amazon fsx for windows file server,this enables you to easily replicate,data between your managed file systems,for business continuity,as well as copy portions of your data to,different buckets or file systems,as needed by evolving application,requirements,using the aws data sync console command,line interface,or software development kit you can,easily configure fully automated data,transfer tasks between aws storage,services,without managing in-cloud infrastructure,let's move on to a demonstration of this,feature,here we are in the aws management,console,before we get started with data sync i,want to take a moment to show the source,and target that i'll use for this,demonstration,the source will be this s3 bucket which,is located in the us east 1,northern virginia region it contains,several objects,as well as folder prefixes i intend to,only copy objects in the documentation,folder prefix,which contains a mix of powerpoint pdf,and a few other file types,my target is this s3 bucket,which is located in us west one northern,california,as you can see it is currently empty,now let's launch data sync,from the data sync introduction screen,navigate to the,create a data transfer task box for this,demonstration,let's select between aws storage,services,and click get started,on the configure source location screen,we will create a new location,from the drop-down list you select the,location type,and data sync will automatically,populate the names of available,resources in the selected region,for example if i select amazon efs,i see that there is an efs file system,available in this region,i can do the same for fsx for windows,file server,for this demonstration let's select,amazon s3,here is my source bucket,instead of transferring the entire,bucket we will only copy the contents of,the documentation folder prefix,we also need to select or auto-generate,an iam role,which will grant permission to this s3,bucket let's click next to continue,on the configure destination location,screen let's create another new location,data sync allows you to select the,region in this example,the target location is u.s west one,northern california,once again data sync will automatically

FreeFileSync: Two Way Synchronization

In this tutorial, we are going to synchronize files using FreeFileSync's "Two way" synchronization,variant.,Unlike "Mirror" synchronization, "Two way" will detect and copy changed files in both,directions.,This is useful, for example, when you want to keep two or more computers in sync by means,of a portable memory stick or a shared network location.,When synchronizing the first PC, the memory stick will act as the target, while during,the synchronization of the second PC, the memory stick will be the source.,Technically, the "Two way" variant will determine source and target for each file pair individually,and also detect conflicts when a file was modified on both sides since the last synchronization.,Let's start with a blank configuration and select the left and right folders we want,to sync.,Press "Compare".,The synchronization variant is already set to "two way", so let's look at the list of,changes that FreeFileSync found.,Since this is our first "Two way" synchronization, FreeFileSync has no information about the,last sync yet and will set up files that exist on one side to be copied over to the other,side.,If this is not the desired action for this first synchronization, you can change the,sync direction for each file individually or for entire folders .,Let's run the synchronization and look at the result.,The two folders are now the same.,Notice that FreeFileSync has created sync.ffs_db files in both of them.,These database files are used by the "Two way" algorithm to determine the proper sync,directions.,Let's put it to the test: We create a new file here,,delete a file, and change a file.,Let's also change a file with the same name on the other side.,Now we run a new comparison and see what the "Two way" algorithm has found.,It detected all changes on the right side and set sync directions pointing left.,It also found a conflict, which is the file we changed on both sides.,What can we do about the conflict?,We could look at the file content by opening both files with their default application,,and then set the sync direction manually.,Or we could open both via an external text comparison tool, to see all the differences,at a glance.
