HOW I SOLD MY FIRST LIVESTOCK without a sale barn | Dorper Sheep Farming

this is kind of surreal nine months ago,i went out to pick up my first live,soccer now,i'm going out to sell,my first livestock so we are about 10,hours,out from the launch of my very first,livestock sale i've launched a lot of,products in my life but i've never,launched any with four legs and a,beating heart,so i think we're about to make history,shepherdess at harmony farms here coming,at you today with a total recap on my,first,livestock sale,there are some things i'm gonna change,but overall i was so incredibly thankful,for how,my first livestock sale went and i'm,gonna walk you through exactly what i,sold and some of the strategies that,went into it,first and foremost how did i sell my,lambs well i have two different ways,that i can market and sell my dorper,sheep two different products that they,can end up as and one is livestock,feeder animals for other small farms to,finish the process of growing a lamb and,process themselves,or breeding stock ranchers can come in,and buy,rams or use from me to build up their,flocks whether existing or new,and then i have,dead stock i guess it would be which is,a meat product i can sell my dorpor,lamb as a gourmet grass finished,lamb product i get a lot of questions,this is a side note as to how,dorper meat tastes,guys i've never tasted a meat like it it,is absolutely incredible they basically,produce the most tender and delicate,meat you will ever have but,back on track,this year i sold my livestock at,shepherdessdorpers.com which is a,website that i custom built,for,my dorper sheep sales i did not do an,auction i did,a fixed price listing now while i did,pay a little bit of attention to market,values,i also did price my products based on,what they are which is a highly niche,grass,based livestock and my customers were,coming to me understanding,what went into raising these animals,whether i'm successful or not it is my,desire to set a bit of a bar,with respect to,grass-based livestock sales as a,first-timer coming in,i was looking,for basically what i'm selling now i was,looking for livestock from operations,that managed on forage so that i could,take,not only the economic advantage of that,kind of a system into my system but that,i could also take the health of that,animal into my system so i sold,not,as an auction basis but as a fixed,priced,animal and i moved these both on my,website as well as through,local channels not 100,of my sales came through my website i,have a series of local channels that i,also use to move and market my sheep and,while into the future i believe i can,get to that 100 mark through,shepherdessdorpers.com that's going to,come with building a customer,base but i am extremely optimistic with,the volume that i was able to move,through my direct website this year and,i anticipate it will be even more,next year,so how i did it and how i will change it,i sold my lambs once they were weaned,but i didn't really begin the sales,process until,about four weeks after they were weaned,i wa

Selling some sheep and goats at the auction

hey good morning guys,so it's uh starting to get dave out here,we,got up got everybody,kind of up and and where they need to be,to be loaded,uh kind of woke them up let them eat a,little hay and stuff fill up we don't,want them,looking too gant going into the cell,ring but,they won't eat that much this morning,they're in a,strange pen there and thing so uh we're,waiting on uh,charlie with the truck,and uh,just doing a few other things here to,get ready,well we're loaded up,ready to go there wasn't a whole lot of,extra room in there actually,a lot fuller we could have held some,more but uh,it's fuller than i thought it would be,nobody's crowded we don't like to crowd,them but we have had two before,so he's headed to,maryville and we'll head out here soon,and go up,the sail,so,charlie that drives his,neighbor of mine friend we have goats,on some of his property and someplace,he's got cows and,you know really works out well and we,pay him to haul them all,hey guys well we're up at the uh,auction bar now looks pretty nice i,never been here before,but uh i think they've recently reopened,and uh,charlie got the,sheep and goats up here,oh i don't know what time it was i think,it was before noon he was already,unloaded we were eating lunch,so,yeah everything looks nice and,shiny here,so we'll see how things sell,well we're walking around back here just,checking things out,looks uh i mean i don't know i'm kind of,impressed it's,it's pretty nice,i wanted to get up on the catwalk but,they are closed i think,something about the roof blew off or,something or some of the roof,so you can't see as well as what maybe,you could if i could get up there,a bunch of wool see,yeah so here's our group of uh,goats there's everything in there from,little feeder kids there's some,some uh nanny kit nanny's in there,there's no nanny kids really but then,there's some,some,fat weathers in there,there's a little,coal uh ram in there,and then uh,well all our lambs are,over here,so there's a,group of the lambs there,they probably shrunk a little bit,getting here it's a cold rainy day right,now,but we'll see how they do guys,i told evan i was going to give him some,publicity but that could be good or bad,for him,we'll see,that's right,55 pounds,foreign,398.,here comes the lambs,we'll see i don't know if they'll split,them up and,run them all through,big track of these lambs right here,tangled up ladies and gentlemen guys,87 weighing 65 pounds,per string on the strikes excuse me,well i really didn't even catch the last,bid we'll see what they print,372 50.,i think my sheep did better than the,goats did really,these are,five more little bit bigger ones,72 pounds,345,well i think the i honestly think the,sheep did better than the goats this,time,they're probably slaughtering them and,calling them goats,well here's another group of goats,coming in here,that uh,it's ours,we'll see what they do,um,um,uh,that's a little better,well here's a few heavier ones 67 pounds,385,that's pretty go

Selling a few Lambs to Test the Market

hey guys,um hey we decided to bring some,fat lambs and some other uh call views,and things down here to the Yates Center,livestock auction today so,first Tuesday of the month auction and,we'll see how it goes I haven't been,down to this auction for,I don't know quite some time nothing,really wrong with it it just been going,somewhere else but to look like it's,gonna sell report that,no their their sale was was doing pretty,good as far as prices,and prices for maybe a little heavier,Lambs that we might have so uh we'll see,that's not ours those are just some of,walking through here looking at,that looks like a bunch of ram lamps,there,foreign,starts at six there's,quite a few in here comes in,a nice looking group of goats there,we'll see how they sell,we didn't bring any goats today only,this is some sheep,Lambs,that's a nice looking group there,buddy,come on come on,foreign,foreign,excited,five,hey we got unloaded,it's like a lot of people that same idea,we did,foreign,three dollars,our discounted quite a bit yet,we didn't bring any kids to the sale,some Lambs,22854 3 on 54.,so those weren't ours but those are some,that look similar to ours,um 40 a pound I was hoping I was to,bring more than that but it doesn't look,like they are a good deal to you 230 now,babe,97 pounds,about 40 pretty good kind of lambs right,there guys,about 40. now five it'll be about 40 now,two and a half two and a half dollars,dirty do it I have put them on four on,two four on two,those weren't ours I just wanted to see,see what the heavier weights just don't,bring as much per,head I mean that's 128 dollars ahead,and uh,those,65 70 Pounders we're bringing,oh 175 to 180 90.,her head so,guess what I'm telling you just don't,pay to get them too big,you got to consider that your the time,you're,lamb and you may be lambing too early,and selling too late,it's a group of 45 pounds feed your kids,bring them back bring them back bring,them back,I ain't got nobody gotta bring them back,dead,100 divided by the head put them on 3 on,57 105 so that's a little over two,dollars a pound,those aren't ours I just wanted to show,you what some feeder kids were bringing,here tonight,so it looks like if you have goats tell,them no matter about what they weigh if,they're finished well they're gonna,bring around,160 dollars on up to maybe,180 or 90 dollars ahead,but they got good finish on them now if,they don't they're gonna be back from,that quite a little bit 63 Pounders,we'll see what these weigh 63 Pounders,mountains,290 Pounds so that's 183 dollars ahead,so those aren't mine I just want to give,you a little bit,to expect,three twenty twenty babies,25 now 30 now pipe now 48 now five,minutes,49 Pounders brought 340 a pound 167,dollars ahead they didn't have as much,finish on the meter there though but,that's just about what they're gonna,bring,now,all right here comes some of our Lambs,here it's not all of them but,we'll see how they do what they weigh,what they bring probably about like the,r

Selling Lambs at the Sale Barn (Auction) | Our First Time | Vlog 16

so,i think this morning what our plan is,going to be is we're going to get all of,our sheep,into our trailer because there's only,like,13 so it's not a real big amount,but we're going to take the,ones we don't want to sail barn this,morning so what we'll do is we'll put,them all in the trailer,and then we'll just kick the big ones,that we want to keep,out the little side door and since,they're bums they're not gonna go,very far they're not very ambitious and,they know who feeds them,so alrighty,all right so we're getting ready to go,to sail barn we've never been before,um so it'll be a learning learning curve,um but it's starting to snow,i don't know about you guys but we've,had a really warm fall winter so far,so but look it it's starting i don't,know if,yeah you can see it a little bit look at,that now we got the neighbor's sheep,out there way over there,oh trying to get in car seats for the,boys,and then that thing too if you guys are,a little weather station,awesome it's snowing henry yeah,are you excited yep yeah,mine are oopsy,okay i'll help just,oh,so,well we'll see how this goes,all right so we're realizing how many,we never really counted how many females,and males we did end up butchering,two boys a couple weeks ago,yeah with thanksgiving um,now so we only have about six minutes,now we're comparing sizes to see which,views we got she's big,she's big those were the two best ones,even as a bottle third one there's,pretty darn good too,that one that last one's tiny,and without her being in there i think,that one's bigger than that one,hey,get that off the navy,okay so we have one two three four five,six seven,i say that one in that one,or that one or not oh that one,it's tiny yeah that one does but it's,between that one and that one,that one that looks like it has better,wool,i don't really care no these guys,um what about this third one this is,this one's pretty small,i'm gonna hand you her yeah,so this is what we got to decide which,ones we are better breeding stock,so if we're going to try and breed these,you only want to keep the best ones this,can be healthier for the animal,you get them i open it out the door so,this one's kind of hard to tell she's,leaning down yeah she's kind of gotta,but i can't tell if she's small or not,come on time for you to go maybe someone,else wants to,all right all right,all righty so we got them in the trailer,we are taking let's see it's how many,one two three,four five six seven to the sale barn,so they're pretty small but it'll be,good experience for us to know what to,do,all right guys we just got the uh,sheep loaded up and uh we ended up with,four boys and three girls that were,taken to the sale barn,so we're just on our way to,go see how it goes and uh never done,this before so kind of excited to,see it it's not very many sheep to be,really taking but,it's going to be kind of fun to just,learn the process,all right guys we just dropped off the,bums at the uh,at the sale barn but yeah it was super,ea

PAYDAY ! | Selling Prime and Store Lambs in New Zealand.

morning everybody down here at the lease,block,um,playing down here today,is to wager after all these lambs that,we've took down here and they went on,the kale and plantain,um i draft them into,41 and above go prime,40 below we'll go uh store and then we,wager after the ones at home,on,monday so today's wednesday on monday,and then i crashed them all yesterday uh,sure some other ones,so yeah got the race rule here,and we're just in the process of,unfolding this,so got the generator and compressor over,there,and then,all our bits and pieces here,so we'll quickly unfold this,so we've got our pianos all set up,so the fats will come out this side,uh just here and then the,the prior store ones will just run,straight ahead so,we'll go and uh go and get them in and,uh yeah makes that,so this is the real clover paddock put,these lambs into about a week 10 days,ago,and uh yeah chewed it right out so,it's a good time to shift them but uh,yeah,blue,still a bit of feeding here but we can,run the usual here in the winter,just clean it right out and,start again in the spring for some good,lambing tucker,quiet blue,let's go let them find the gate,oh,so,come on,so just ticking away here,the um,the generator is actually um,overloading with the compressor and,running this it's never done that before,so it's a bit frustrating,but um,yeah millie's here doing a cracking job,just keeping the lambs,up she's doing really well,that's a big help,come on what are you doing,you're a store lamb,oh,millie wanted me to video the one with,big horns,so horns aren't very common for our,sheep here crossbreeds in new zealand,um,yeah,what's everyone else's uh,what's everyone else's,sheep like do they have horns,pretty sure that comes from the fin or,the something else in these um kelso,maternals,right so got all uh those weighed up and,the prime ones crutched through the race,wall so they were um,there's about 97 of them i think,so they'll yeah give us around about 150,bucks hopefully,and then these are all the store lambs,from here that i've just got a crutch,just going to do them in the race here,because the generator was mucking around,actually it was cutting and cutting out,so,we need to yeah probably get our own,generator out of that but,um anyway yeah so,i'm just gonna run these through and,tidy them up and then we'll be all good,to go for yeah the trucks tomorrow,quiet jasper,so,do,so,right 230 of them,and then,145 down at home so they should average,about 33 kilos in total,at 3.80,yeah 120 something dollars so pretty,happy with that,um yeah and it's got a few to take home,prime lambs out here so a few to take,home that are just in a bit of poor,condition,um so,fly blind or just skinny too small to,sell so we'll just keep them home get,them in better health and stick them in,canopy park so,once again using the old handy piece,um list the handpiece with an electric,motor 12 volt battery,all in,all in a little pouch here,just with an on off switch so yeah an,awesome piece of ki

frozen yeah it's cool it is such a,Monday,well mondays are always nicer to start,the day when they're sunny and still and,it's cold like breathe in and freeze,your nostril hair cold but I would much,rather this than that in between doesn't,know if it wants to rain doesn't know if,it wants to snow so damp it gets right,into your bones don't like that kind of,winter,I would rather clear sunny a little on,the cold side and no wind can I order,that let's go see what we're in for,today they destroyed my frozen all right,I got a unthaw some lines here see if,this is frozen a little bit in the,nipple I'll just keep that off and,thought that the only problem with this,burn is frozen yeah it's cool,in hot water it's a thought and then I'm,gonna have to run to town and get some,heat tape because the insulation was did,not work at all,okay I think we're all right one at a,time stop they're gonna be busy for the,next little while you guys don't seem,too concerned oh I gotta get that what's,going to you so it's literally only been,about 10 minutes and it's already minus,four point seven when the Sun is out and,doing its thing the Spartan does warm up,quite a bit so fits minus five outside,today it should get up to the boat,probably between 3:00 and plus 5 degrees,Celsius in here through the day it's,usually about a 10 7 to 10 degree change,from outside versus inside during the,day at night it gets cold Birds all,right let's see looks as if we're still,clear yeah looks like we're still clear,for nesting but they are just sitting,there looking,all right let's see if the store will,open oh good you know what I might kick,it a bit just to make sure I think I,left it open enough all right hang on to,your hats,close enough,closeness oh I hate that so much that,guy can't get here fast enough okay,there's a few things we have to do in,the winter to combat the cold one is to,plug in your tractor and I didn't do,that last night this does have a global,plug so I'm going to leave the key on,for a bit it'll count down from 20 and,I'm gonna let that do that a few times,on its own and let it warm up because I,should have had this plugged in I'll do,that tonight I didn't know was supposed,to get this cold last night wow she's a,beaut I'm gonna start this up and get it,going get it warmed up,it has been a morning of frozen,everything the tractor took I had to,leave it running for probably ten,minutes to warm up because the it was,slow hydraulic hydrous that right the,corn auger the belt didn't want to go,because there's been so much moisture,and I think the belt got stretched so I,think the tightener I think the,tightener needs I think it needs tighten,anyway this froze again so I'm just,about to put on I found one feet cord I,had here so I'm gonna put it on so at,least they have one working nipple,across the road though no problem that,barn is a little bit more insulated so,the water the water didn't freeze over,there thank goodness all the water pails,were frozen I'm just w
