hello and welcome to SRJC libraries let's take a look at Smart Search. Smart,Search is a discovery tool that lets you search for books e-books and articles,all at the same time. In this tutorial we will learn how to do three things. Number,one: use basic key word and phrase searches to find our information. Number,two: to narrow and limit searches to improve those search results and number,three: explore options to save our research for future reference. Let's use,climate change as our search example. Climate change is in quotes, so this,exact phrase appears in our search results and not climate for example in,one part of the article and change in another. We'll use the word and to,connect both of these concepts to ensure that each of our results contains both,concepts and not just one or the other. Let's search. We are now in the search,results page. First thing to do sign in to your account. This will allow you to,access research that you have saved over the session. Use your SRJC ID and PIN to,log on. Before we dive in to our search results let's take a quick look at this,page. Up top you'll see that we have the search bar where you could add or delete,your search terms. You could also choose to use the advanced search option. Second,,find our search results in the center of the page. Next to each results is an icon,and the type of information source. To the right such as book or article,underneath find a link to the title of your source. To the right find options,such as generating a permalink which is a permanent web link to your source,,emailing the source to yourself, or adding this item to your favorites. Click,the pushpin to add to your favorites. At the top of the page,you'll notice we have close to 2,000 results which leads us to the last part,of our page. Modify your results. Let's use this menu to narrow and target more,precise search results. we could sort by relevance or perhaps show,materials fully available, online books and prints and DVDs, or filter for,peer-reviewed articles or perhaps exclude peer-reviewed articles to locate,magazines and other periodicals that focus on a specific area of research,,limit by date range, select a particular resource type, or choose a specific,subject. Perhaps I'm interested in the marine aspect of my topic. I'll check,that box, go to the bottom and click apply filters to generate a new relevant,set of research results. To access an article I click on the link for the,title. So I'll just point out three features. One: information at the top,about the article which is useful for your citation. Number two: details about,the article which can be great for previewing. Let's take a look so here we,can see the title of their creator, we also have the subject terms. How to Build Search Box in Excel

Today I want to show you how you can add a search box to your Excel spreadsheet.,Imagine you have customer information in Excel, you can use a search box to look for ,exact matches, but you can also use it for more advanced scenarios. You can look for partial ,matches. You can even search across multiple columns, and we can even highlight the results. ,This is a fully fledged search box. If you want to follow along today, ,I've included a sample spreadsheet right up above and down below in the description.,This is the perfect thing to add to an Excel dashboard, and if you want to create an Excel ,dashboard, I have a video right up there that'll show you step-by-step how to do it.,All right, let's check this out. Here I am in Excel, ,and we're going to start with just the basic search box first.,We're going to do an exact match.,Down below I have a data set with customers and their favorite cookies.,I know, how can you possibly choose just one favorite cookie, but hey, we had to do it. ,Over on the right-hand side, I want to add a search box so when you search for a ,customer's first name, the table down below will show all of the matching customers.,To insert a search box, first off, we need to add the developer tab and if you don't yet have this, ,you can simply right click on the ribbon and then click on customize.,Within customize over on the right-hand side you should see an option for developer.,Make sure that this box is checked and then click on OK.,Now that we have the developer tab, let's click on it and ,right in the center there is the option to insert.,Click on this and under the ActiveX controls category, here you'll see a text box. We're ,going to use this as our search box. Click on this and then draw a search box over cell G2.,We now have a search box on the sheet, but it doesn't actually do anything yet. While in design ,mode, let's right click on the search box and then go down to the option that says properties.,This opens up properties and within this list you'll see an option for linked cell.,We want to link our search box to a cell within our worksheet ,and I'm going to link it to the cell that's directly behind the search box or cell G2.,So right here I'll type in G2 and then I can close ,out properties. Smart Notes Hacking Session #12: Search Bar End-To-End Test
