Page Speed SEO: Here’s What You Need to Know

page speed is a very simple concept that, overlays a great deal of complexity it,isn't just how quickly your site shows,up to visitors really it is a,combination of your site's time to first, bite which is the initial response time, between your site and the user's browser, this is then taken into consideration, with specific metrics such as the first, contentful paint where the user first, sees actual content the largest, contentful pane where the site's largest, chunk of content then loads for the user,to see,and the first input delay where the user, can click links and interact with the, site in ways other than scrolling all of,these loosely combine into a rating, called speed index which you can get, from google's own page speed insights, you can use this as a benchmark metric, and in a general sense all of these, together give you a solid picture of,your page feed and how google other, search engines and your users see and, interact with your site how does, pagespeed affect seo well page speed, affects your seo a lot over the past few, years google has adjusted its algorithm,to take user experience into account one,of the top factors for a good user, experience is having a quick and, responsive site when a user goes to a,site that takes more than a couple of,seconds to load there is a high chance, they will leave increasing that site's,bounce rate google then sees that bounce, and makes a few assumptions as to why,the user might have bounced on a very, quick bounce google will likely assume, one of the following page loading took,so long that the user left the site was, unusable and features were broken the, site didn't contain the information at,all some or all of the site's,information was incorrect the site's,layout prevented the user from, effectively finding an answer to their, query google wants your users to have, the best experience possible that means,in the current era of internet usage, never having to wait for anything so in,terms of how page speed affects seo the, best way to think about it is that it,doesn't matter how great your content is,if the user gets bored before they ever, see it how to optimize page speed for,seo minify html css and javascript divi, does it automatically and other, performance optimization plugins such as,wp rocket have toggles for you to opt, into this feature remove render blocking, resources as your page loads the browser,is concurrently trying to render and, parse multiple elements render blocking, resources are those which stop that, concurrent loading and take up the, browser's attention in full until these, resources load everything else is put on,hold if you're a wordpress user many, site caching plugins have simple toggles,to remove or defer render blocking, resources divi has multiple options for, this already including the critical css, feature which breaks up potentially, render blocking css into smaller chunks,to load alongside others as well as,deferral for javascript and other style, sheets from the gutenberg block editor, use a cdn cdns

Does PageSpeed Actually Impact SEO? [New Experiment]

Does PageSpeed Actually Impact SEO? [New Experiment]

to site speed actually affect your,Google rankings while they recently, decided to put this ranking factor to,the test and the results might surprise, you,i'm brian dean the founder of backlinko, the place where marketers turn for, higher rankings and more traffic and in,this video i'm going to show you the, results of my SEO experiment keep, watching you've probably heard that,PageSpeed is an important google ranking, factor there are a million blog post out, there that tell you how important page, speed is for SEO plus a few years ago,Google rolled out a page speed update, that specifically down ranked sites that, loaded slowly on mobile devices I mean, even a large scale analysis of 1 million, google search results that we did found,a correlation between loading speed and, first page rankings in google but I,haven't seen an experiment that isolated, page speed as a potential ranking factor, which is why I decided to run one here's,what happened a while back I noticed, that a lot of our pages even those that, ranked number one for competitive, keywords had horrible page speed scores, for example this page that ranks in the,top 3 of Google for SEO checklist scores,an 18 out of 100 in Google PageSpeed, insights now I was pretty sure that,Google use loading speed as a ranking, factor but seeing all those slow pages, that were ranking for competitive, keywords made me wonder its page speed, one of those minor factors that don't,really make a big difference or is it,something that will make or break your, rankings to find out I wanted to improve, the speed of a single page and then, measure how that pages rankings and, organic traffic changed over time I,ultimately decided to run the experiment,on this page a list post of SEO tips now, this seemed like the perfect page to,test because it was already ranking at,the bottom of the first page for my,target keyword SEO tips and if that page, moved up to the top of the page that, would be a strong sign that whatever I,did made a big difference so before the, experiment began this page ranked number,8 for SEO tips and was bringing in about,a hundred and 50 organic visitors per, week, these numbers had been stable over the, last few months and when I ran the page,on Google PageSpeed insights and had a,score of 28 on desktop and 13 on mobile, which are absolutely horrible scores all, around that pages score on,webpagetest.org wasn't any better, according to that test my page took 40,seconds to load 40 seconds,so those were my benchmark numbers next,it was time to actually improve the, loading speed of that page so backlinko,CTO and I decided to dig in and figure, out why this page was loading so slowly,on the surface this page really, shouldn't be slow in the first place we,use an optimized lightweight WordPress, theme compress all of our images and we,use a CDN as it turned out this page, loaded slowly mostly because it had lots, and lots of high-res images in fact that, pages total file size was 25 megabytes, that's bigger than the sizes of contra 3,st

How to Speed Up Your WordPress Website (Simple Guide)

How to Speed Up Your WordPress Website (Simple Guide)

So my buddy Zach messages me and he's like:,"Hey, can I hire you to speed up my WordPress website?",And I was like:,"Dude... Just do A, B, and C, and I'm pretty sure you'll see a huge performance boost.",A few days passed and he said:,"The speed tips you gave me worked perfectly.",So today, I'm going to show you how to speed up your WordPress site with three simple steps,,and take your site speed from something like this... to this.,Stay tuned.,Google has used site speed as a ranking signal for desktop searches since 2010.,And as of 2018, page speed became a ranking factor for mobile searches too.,And even though speed improvements will only affect a small percentage of slow websites,,faster page load times lead to better user experience and ultimately, more revenue.,In fact, a study by Google shows that as page load time goes up, bounce rate rises with it.,Now, there are numerous reasons why your website might load slowly.,But the most common reasons that I've seen are due to slow connectivity, caching, page size,,and sometimes more technical reasons like render-blocking JS.,But if you're anything like Zach, who's not exactly the most technical person, then, the three steps that I'm about to show you should help you get better performance from your site.,Now, before we get started, it's important to note that the things I did for this site, won't necessarily translate perfectly to your site.,There are tons of things to consider when it comes to WordPress site speed like your, theme's code, specific plugins you might be using, server configuration, image file sizes,,and more.,So as we go through the tutorial, I'll try and explain the more technical reasons behind, poor performance, so you can hopefully diagnose further issues yourself.,Alright, so let me give you a background on the website we'll be optimizing and we'll start, with some benchmark speeds.,This is a brand new affiliate site built on WordPress using the free WP Astra Theme.,He's activated seven plugins, many of which will contribute to page load time in big and, small ways.,Now, to keep things simple, I've run a single post, which has text, images, and a video, through three page-speed tools.,PageSpeed Insights shows a mobile score of 45 and a desktop score of 79.,Pingdom shows a load time of 1.72 seconds, page size of 1.7mb, and 63 requests.,And GTMetrix, fully loaded in 4.3 seconds with a page size of 1.55 megabytes and 61 requests.,Now, since these tools only allow you to view one page at a time, I ran a full crawl using,Ahrefs' Site Audit tool.,And if we look in Page Explorer, you'll see there were a total of 23 pages with a load, time of 1 second or longer, which is basically all of the site's pages.,So there's definitely some room for improvements.,So the first thing we did was to switch DNS providers to Cloudflare's free DNS service.,Now, in order to understand why we used Cloudflare, you need to understand how the web works,,at least at an elementary level.,Websites are just files o

Make Your Wix Site Faster - Advanced Wix SEO (PART 2)

Make Your Wix Site Faster - Advanced Wix SEO (PART 2)

hey where's everybody welcome back to,the next episode of advanced vixx SEO,strategy and today we're gonna cover how,you can optimize your speed on your Wix,website in order to make your website, load a lot faster which actually is one,of the most important aspects that,Google takes a look at before ranking, your website so let's just give you a,quick example so you have a website that, takes 10 seconds to load and a website, should take around 2 seconds alone, obviously Google are gonna prioritize, the two-second websites as this is a,more user-friendly website even if you, think about yourself if you go on a,website it takes 10 seconds to load each, and every page you're most likely going,to just leave the page and go to the, next result in Google so we are going to,go through how you can optimize for, speed in order to make your website load,a lot faster in order for you to rank, your website under your specific keyword,so let's just get right into it and, hopefully you guys enjoy if you want, more videos like this one make sure to,like the video subscribe my channel for, more content are on SEO digital, marketing and anything else you guys, want me to cover so let's get right into, this video and hope you guys enjoy so as,you can see this is my very beautiful, website that we made a few months ago, when I showed you guys how to design, your Wix website as you can see my,design skills are very good and, therefore we are gonna use this website,as an example for this guide so just to,give you guys a start off point when you, want to optimize your Wix website for, speed is that images and videos are, content it takes a long time to load, since images and videos are huge files,or a lot bigger files compared to text, which is quite easy for your computer to,love right so what I like to start off, doing is make sure that all my images on,my website are optimized and in order to,optimize your images you can do it you, know I'm in a lot of different ways, but one of the ways I like to do it is,using a online compressor what these, compressors essentially is going going,to do is making your image file a lot, smaller without compromising the quality,of the image so your image is still, gonna be high quality even though the, file itself is still gonna look very, good so let's just take this image as an,example we have a field right here which,is looking very beautiful with this, white text and black text you can barely, see let's just start off by changing and,a column background for this one so the, column background we have is this one, which is from wigs and I'm not quite, sure if wicks themself actually, compresses their own images but let's,take in new image as an example so let's,go to unsplash and unsplash is a website, where you can get three images there are, usually high quality so let's just go,ahead and search for wheat so we can, probably find something similar to what,we already had on our website so this, image right here looks quite good it's,definitely high quality as you can see,

Page Speed: SEO Mythbusting

Page Speed: SEO Mythbusting

what do you think I like misconceptions, about page speeds and especially is page, speed in ranking well a lot of people, think that it's a big ranking factor in,fact I was literally looking at a,document that a company had produced as,its document actually talked about SEO,and you had section on SEO which is good, there at least I'm thinking about it but,the first thing they listed was paid, speed and they were actually quite, insistent in the write-up that it was,the most important ranking factor oh no,and and I was like okay I've got to find, the right way to tell them that I want, them to deal with this because it's,really important and it's clearly impact, user engagement and conversion ya know,it doesn't mean you're gonna move up,three spots right, hello and welcome to another episode of,SEO myth busting with me today is Eric, anger and would you like to introduce, yourself because you're doing so much, stuff what is it that you're doing well, you know I'm a general manager of part,of the digital marketing team at,Perficient digital and altogether we do,let's see SEO content creation content, marketing pay-per-click analytics, conversion rate optimisation trainings,Twitter conference speaking that's a,fair amount of stuff to keep us in a,fair amount of stuff to keep us busy but, today we're gonna get busy talking about, page B it's a great topic as so many, people get it wrong oh yeah is it quite,a deep topic as well yes so what kind of,questions do you have around ranking, factor space trade speed and page speed,in general so let's actually start in,general and just talk about why page, speed is important how's that sound,ah sounds fantastic I think if you look,at what you're trying to accomplish is,you're trying to accomplish that you're,building a good website for your users, right right so now how many times have, you been on the metro or in a car or,somewhere in the like countryside where, you didn't have fantastic reception on,your mobile phone and you basically just, like really quickly trying to find, something out and it just took ages for,the content to actually show up that's,painful isn't it it is painful and in,fact on some sites that can happen when, you are in a place where you're,perfectly strong yeah yeah and that's,that's not that's so frustrating right, and you don't want to frustrate your, users right and we as a search engine do,not want to have users frustrated when, they like see content so for us it makes, sense to consider fast web sites a,little more helpful to the users then, very slow web sites right it does make, sense and I guess my thought process in,this has always been that well yes it's,likely that you're using at some levels,of ranking family but you can't make it,such a strong ranking factor that you, won't show the most relevant content, yeah absolutely so yeah if you have bad, content if you are the fastest website, out there but the,Coenen is not great then that's not, helping you right right I mean to get,the content you don't want quickl

Wix Website Speed Optimization - Wix SEO 2023 (Part 5)

Wix Website Speed Optimization - Wix SEO 2023 (Part 5)

welcome back to the next episode in the,wix seo series in this episode we'll be,taking a closer look at how we can, optimize the website performance of our,wix website in order to improve our, organic rankings and the reason why this,is important is because google actually, takes into account your website, performance when they rank your website,in the google search it's super, important that you actually have a,well-performing website in order to rank, well and perform well in the organic, results so we'll start off by looking at,some tools where you can actually, analyze your website performance of your, wix website by then we'll then go into, how we can optimize certain elements on,the wix website itself and then by the,end of this video you should have an,idea on how you can actually optimize, your website to increase your, performance and hopefully improve your, organic rankings as well with that being, said let's just jump into today's,tutorial and hopefully you guys do enjoy, okay so the first thing we want to do is,just make sure we head over to our wix, website so if you watch the vix seo, tutorial we've done uh we are building, this who is bobbing coffee shop which we,have used as an example throughout the, tutorial now this wax website it doesn't,have a premium plan because it is an,example video or an example website, itself so we do still have ads on the, website itself and we do have a free, domain name now with that being said if,we want to start optimizing our website, from an seo perspective we want to make, sure we head over to the vix editor, itself once you're in the vix editor,we're gonna start looking at some things, which are gonna be images and editing, images or having images on your website, will actually reduce the speed of your, website quite a lot now the type of,image that you have on your website will, obviously have a bigger impact on your, website and other types of images will, have less of an impact of your website, performance, some images will have a huge impact on,your website performance negative impact,on your website performance i should say,is big images so as you can see here at,the top of our website at the moment we,do have a slideshow gallery with them i,think two or three different images i,think it is,three different images and we have here,at the top of our website now these, images are very very big on the website, itself and that also means that the, dimensions of these images are also big,as well, now when you have images with big, dimensions that means that the image, itself will actually be quite big so the, file size of that image will be big now,if you have an image which are lower in,terms of dimensions let's say 10 pixels,by 10 pixels that is going to be a small,it's just going to have a smaller file, size overall,so what we want to do here is make sure, that we're using as few big images or,large images on our website as possible, now we can try to compress these images, and we can make sure that we're using a,preferred file type on

Site Speed: What SEOs Need to Know #AskGoogleWebmasters

Site Speed: What SEOs Need to Know #AskGoogleWebmasters

welcome everyone to a special episode of,ask Google webmasters here today is,Martin hi everyone and this is John hi,yeah we're gonna be answering questions,on the topic of speed that were, submitted with the hashtag ask Google, webmasters on Twitter so let's start off, with a question from row Heat what is,the ideal page speed of any content for, better ranking on search oh you're,asking me that question okay so,basically we are categorizing pages more,or less as like really good and pretty, bad so there's not really like a,threshold in between it's just like we,are more or less roughly categorizing, the speed experience for users and how,are we actually doing that where do we,get the data from yeah that's that's,important so we mostly get data from two, places on the one hand we try to,calculate a theoretical speed of a page, using lab data and then we also use real, field data from users who've actually, tried to use those pages and that field, data is similar to the chrome user, experience report data cool so we are, having like hypothetical data and, practical data so we don't really have a,threshold to give away but basically the, recommendation I would say is just make, sites fast for users that's what it,boils down to that sounds good yeah the, next question comes from Olga and Olga,is wondering if a website's mobile speed,is best looked at using the test my site, tool the GT metrics tool or PageSpeed, insights hmm that's a really good, question what's the most important tool, for SEO we have multiple tools that, measure multiple things and I can, understand that that can be kind of,confusing at times in general these, tools measure things in slightly, different ways so what I usually, recommend is taking these different, tools getting the data that you get back, from that and using them to discover, kind of low-hanging fruit on your, webpages so things that you can easily, improve to really give your page a speed, bump how's that sound,no that sounds pretty good and also the, tools, differently like aimed right some some,of these tools like test my side is,pretty high level so like everyone, understands roughly what's going on,there whereas GT matrix is a lot more, technical and PageSpeed insights I think,it's kind of in the middle of that so,depending on who you are catering to who, you're trying to give this report to to,get things fixed you might use one or,the other,so figuring out what is the low-hanging,fruit and using the tool that gives you,the best insight into that for the, audience that you're trying to convince,is it a sea level is it a other marketer,is it someone from the tech side like, this is a developer then you probably, take a different tool next question, comes from owner owner is asking I am,testing an almost-empty page on dev tool, audits and it usually gives me minimum, results which are 0.8 milliseconds for, everything and 20 milliseconds for fij, what it's fed first input delay first, input delay of course but sometimes it,gives worse results for TTI FCI,and

SEO & Web Speed - How to Optimize Your Web Performance

SEO & Web Speed - How to Optimize Your Web Performance

welcome to a new special edition of,crawling mondays, today is going to be a very very special, edition because we are, going to talk about one of the hottest, topics nowadays, speed your website speed joining me,today,is the awesome jamie alvarico, from not a robot she's a technical seo,and founder, and dave smart his developer and tech, seo attained the bots, thank you very much for joining me today, jamie dave, thank you for having us and not putting,in a capsica before we got in,indeed all the bots here right away all,the bots are here, yeah what are the most common web speed, issues that you find,on websites again and again and again, every time that you outed a website, there it is this issues right there so,many different sites uh,are out there with so many different, issues but the big one is,just they send so damn much across the, wire, you know huge payloads um,and there's some truism that less is,always more with things,so massive massive over load of things, like javascript, images things you don't need to and then, there's some other more or less, mundane stuff you know there's two, slower servers there's,running some large site on some small, shared, server somewhere and just not looking at,the overall performance um before things, get to you,and then not taking care of what's,getting to you there's,uh you know things like looking at time, time to first bite and stuff that's,older sort of more speed related stuff,he's often neglected maybe a bit less so,now but one of the biggest kind of,issues that was that i tend to notice, now is,where people forget about that part they, might have peddled the servers they, might have got stuff sent across, then it's just uh it's gone now it's not,my problem but there's so much more, speed and performance than just that, initial, first bite and uh that seems to be being, ignored quite a lot really,i thought that you maybe will talk about, css that are overused, and not necessarily you every particular, page or something like that so i,i like how you took you know another, side,of things and yeah of course js all, default all the faults, but jamie i think that you are going to,mention it maybe,oh i was about to whip out my,handy-dandy go-go-gadget soapbox, and say perhaps if you want to have a,really performance site, you go ahead and weigh the four megs of,tracking pixels, being constantly fired against the user, experience, this is one of the most common things i,see and when i'm under the head when i'm,collaborating with the team, the likelihood that that data is lacking, integrity or is not, readily actioned is really high so we,set up this thing we were sold this tool,it's a plug and play go go gadget, magic solve all marketing cure, that is inaccurate that isn't complete, that is not actioned, all loaded synchronously of course right,in the fields, yes um one of the most common things i,see,is you a site relying on a third party, you are relying on them to execute time, you have a,synchronous call so if you're asking a,third party for css,for js

How Long SEO Takes to Work (and How To Speed It Up)

How Long SEO Takes to Work (and How To Speed It Up)

when i came into the office this morning,i enjoyed this color scheme so,apparently this is called, spring blossom so i had a bit of a look, and it turns out we've got some other, options as well,we have savannah sunset hmm tropical, twilight, what about fancy a bit of arctic aurora, all great but in my opinion you can't,beat,a good bit of office defense welcome to,exposure ninja, how long does seo take, maybe as long as this this, ping this no that's not an announcement, well in this video i'm going to be,sharing some stats that we've pulled, from, our client seo campaigns to give you a,bit more of a detailed answer, because how long does seo take is a very, common question,we all want to rank quickly and it's,scary investing, time and money into something where you, don't see an immediate return if we,contrast it,something like pay-per-click advertising, for example which still isn't immediate, but you can, immediately get some ads showing up seo,is a,much longer time scale thing to do so,how do you know if you're smashing your, head against the wall for six months, about to break through,or you're just smashing your head, against the wall well the general, consensus answer within seo is that you, need to allow between, six to 12 months to see ranking, improvement in fact google's own, recommendations from miley oda,say that you need to allow between four, and 12 months,to see a significant improvement hold on,four to 12 months well that's a really, big difference four months is great 12,months is like, three times as long though so what's the, real answer well we wanted to dig into, the data,to see not only how long seo took but, what were the commonalities between, the fastest moving campaigns so that's,exactly what we're going to share in,this video, how long does seo take what are the, factors that impact how long, seo takes and how can you speed it up,okay so here's the short answer to the, question how long, seo takes if you're being aggressive and, you're starting from a very, low base then usually you're able to see, ranking improvement within,a very short period of time i.e three, months or less,if however you're in a much more, competitive market and you already have, the basics covered, then it'll take much longer to see gains, typically eight months, plus if you want some data then the, average exposure ninja seo client that, does, seo for more than six months sees a 30,increase in their organic traffic now of,course you expected caveats in a video, like this and, here are they we actually found that, there's no such thing as,typical seo results with our clients, actually people's experience was, dramatically different and there are, lots of different variables, now it can be frustrating when you ask,an seo company how long does seo take, and they say,i don't know where's the thing there are,so many dependencies even giving, averages, feels to be honest a little bit, misleading because across the client, data that we reviewed, actually very few campaigns looked like, the average,of all of the data
