how do you Moz fans and welcome to,another edition of whiteboard Friday,this week I want to tackle a question I,get sometimes about the day-to-day,activities of an SEO and what should you,do after you've completed that first,site audit sort of fix the problems what,does the day-to-day work look like and,so you know a lot of SEO s especially,those coming from consulting backgrounds,or who join companies as in-house SEO s,who had kind of this big project-based,SEO work to do find themselves,struggling after that's done right and,that typically that process is pretty,straightforward right it's you kind of,do an audit you look at all the things,on the site you figure out what's wrong,what's missing where are opportunities,that we could execute on maybe you do,some competitive analysis and market,analysis you identify those fixes you,work with teams to make those changes,validate the results have been completed,and then you're sort of in this well do,I go back and on it again and try and,iterate and improve again now that,doesn't feel quite right but it also,doesn't necessarily feel quite right to,go to the very very old-school SEO model,of like alright we've got these keywords,we're trying to rank for let's optimize,our content get some links you know,check our rankings for them and then try,and rinse and repeat and keep improving,this this models pretty broken I'd say,and and just not reflective of the,reality of opportunities that are in SEO,or the reality of the tactics that that,work today right so the way that I like,to think about this is the audit that,the SEO audit right an SEO focused audit,which is trying to say what traffic,could we get what's missing what's,broken and wrong only works at the low,level in the very tactical trenches of a,marketing process or a business process,what you really need to do is you want,to be more incrementally based but you,need to be informed by and you need to,be evolving your tactics in your work,based on what does the business need,right now and so you know this process,is about saying what are the top level,company and marketing goals overall for,everyone in the company what are we,trying to accomplish,this year this quarter the next,three-year plan right what what are we,trying to achieve and then figure out,areas where SEO can best contribute to,that work and then from there you're,creating tactical lists of projects that,maybe are going to positively move the,needle the right needles right the ones,that you've identified and then you're,going to evaluate and prioritize which,ones you want to implement first and,second and third and what order and test,implement those right tope hey we're we,figured out that you know we think that,a new blog section for this particular,piece of content or we think that,getting some user-generated content,building up some community around this,section would be terrific,or we think outreach to these kinds of,publications or building up our social,stats in these worlds will

hey everyone good morning,it is bit after eight o'clock and this,is a look,into what a typical day looks like for,me all right i'm about to go into,my first call of the morning it's a,sales call when i do one of these sales,calls,i do an audit beforehand one thing i,wanted to share real quick it's not that,interesting i suppose,but it's um it's my setup right here so,i do this,um and the reason why i do that is that,it makes it look a lot better for the,uh for the call since you're doing zoom,you don't want to have it down so low,because it looks kind of unprofessional,i suppose,all right so the call went pretty well i,have a few things i need to do,next which is just a summary email uh,things i kind of found within the,account,i have another call 12 o'clock with a,content writer,um so really what i'm going to do is,around 11 45 or so kind of go over my,notes,and then get ready for that next call,hey everyone awesome update from my end,is that i just landed,a new client so they sent over their,signed portion of the contract,i have to just review it real quick to,see if there's any changes within it all,right so right now,i'm reviewing the contract so what i do,from here is i move away from my desk i,come over to my kitchen table,just to kind of break up the day and,make it feel a little bit uh,you know different and i just review it,make sure everything looks,fine for my end as well and then i will,sign the contract with,my pen that's on my surface laptop and,then send it off it's very easy,saves me a ton of time from you know,taking photos of like a contractor,finding a printer somewhere,to get the documents out um i have a,bunch of emails i need to go through,all right so just taking a small break,this is my,little helper right here who will be,helping me later on,on some seo tasks so um,basically i just ate lunch right now and,um,gonna take a few minutes off just kind,of watching tv and then i have a call,coming up around lunchtime and uh,kind of go from there okay so these are,the notes that i took during my meeting,with my content uh my new content writer,so what i do every time when i come into,a meeting,i try to you know ask them some,questions about you know so i'll circle,it right here some questions about,you know what they like to work on,what industries what verticals their,typical turnaround time,and i also talk about things at the end,so i try my best to watch the clock and,then at the end of the,call to go over things about the benefit,of what i provide,all right so now it's a little bit after,12,30. i need to go out to cvs to pick up,this prescription and then i'm going to,stop by my office location,to check that mailbox so figured i would,record this too,all right walking out of cvs,got a very nice compliment about my math,beanie so that's always very fun and uh,she liked the uh she liked the slogan so,stands for make america think harder uh,that's really about it so now i've got,to go to my office to go to,the mailbox to see if
