Where Do The Clothes At Stores Like TJ Maxx Come From?

off-price retailers offer lower prices, wider selections and similar quality, goods compared to traditional department, stores and as popularity for department, stores drops more and more off-price,retailers are popping up across the, country, around 1990 my client was tj maxx at the, time they said we've done a real, thorough study of the country and we,think the limit is 500 stars i'm like, well why is that well well that's all i,think the market can handle you know, that's what they were saying and like, there's only so much off-price goods and,of course that's proven to be a small, percentage of their potential in the, marketplace and they have thousands now,of course,off-price retailers are thriving today,as consumers flock to their shelves for, discounted clothes cheap home decor and, seemingly great deals but one question, that more consumers are asking and less, know the answer to is where do all the, items that your local tj maxx and, marshalls come from, there are three main ways off price, retailers get their product first they, buy access clothes from full price, stores, usually it is at the end of the selling, season,so when retailers have extra inventory, they would like to clear up the system, free up their cash to invest in new, batch of merchandise so buyers of,off-price retailers oftentimes work, directly with large department stores, and the name brand manufacturers in fact, many retailers set up their own, liquidation marketplaces where buyers, can come to the marketplace to bid for, their surplus inventories, the second way is buying directly from, manufacturers who often make a surplus,of products that they want to sell, cheaply a lot of apparel and home goods, are part of a larger industry that has, been operating in economies of scale so,usually the manufacturing happens abroad, and the individual brands who are, producing these items to bring to market, they have contracts with manufacturers, and they order a certain number of items, however usually there is overproduction, because it is much cheaper to have, produced let's say a thousand units, extra as opposed to be missing those, thousand units and have to restart the, production, and the third major way is that these, brands partner with manufacturers to,create special exclusive brands that are, only sold in off-price stores, there's quite a bit of private label in,these off-price outlets where they, manufacture product to their own, specifications and sell them under names, that sound like they might be real, brands but they're house brands for the,off-price retailers that is the way to,get merchandise at much larger scale and,on a more reliable basis and of course, both parties would have no incentive to,disclose, information on such agreement to the, public originally these off-price,retailers were founded on just the first, procurement strategy buying leftover, supply from department stores but as,demand has soared they've turned to the, other supply chains as well tj maxx one,of the largest off-price retailers in,the us decl

TJX Companies ($TJX) - Quick Stock Analysis

TJX Companies ($TJX) - Quick Stock Analysis

we'd like to finish up with,tj maxx um do we have time i think we,should right don,i'd say so all right tjx everybody loves,tj maxx they own a lot of different, companies besides tj,maxx home goods baby home goods,21 000 vendors wow that's impressive,um okay so tj maxx every chick in the, world loves tj maxx, ready um call it 80 billion market cap,pe of 110. i guarantee that's misleading, for some reason there was something that, happened, obviously you know what happened kovid, they still made money in the last 12,months even with kovid, that's what happened so keep that in,mind it's an x on there, but their profit margin last quarter was, eight and a half percent i'm gonna think, this is gonna be an x overall for profit, margin,um 1.6 dividend on 80 billion,is 800 million and 400 so 1.3,billion dollars that was our dynasty, owner um,thing 1.3 billion dollars so we have two,x's,uh p e ratio and profit margin, and with account for 1.3 billion dollars,in,dividends every year pillar number three,is revenue growth over the past five, years, the revenue growth uh 31 billion 42,billion check mark there, again find out how much of that was same, store versus growing stores,so two x's and one check for tj maxx we,want to look at profit growth as pillar, number four,2.3 3.3 check mark there yeah, number five pill number five is shares, outstanding we want this going down, check mark there 1.35 down to 1.2,and easily a 10 drop that's pretty, awesome current assets over current, liabilities is pillar number six baby, current assets 16.7 billion current,liabilities,11.82 check mark there uh so they have, plenty to go off of there,so it's looking pretty good paul for two, years it is free cash flow growth this,is me,flawed a bit with last year i assume, well this is not going to have last, year's numbers in there okay we will, look at that but this is not going to,have last year's numbers in there,so 2.1 billion to,2.8 billion, you check there then 2.6,two to nine please don't screw this up,sometimes i got it divided by five,is two point two and a half two and a,half point five billion does that sound, right that doesn't sound about right, times i hate to show bias here,i almost feel like come on give it to us,i i think it's a 20 times multiple it's,50 billion dollars,so it's still an x but i do think tj,maxx, has the potential because i don't think,i like about tj maxx's they buy a lot of,closeouts,so the online part of that you're gonna, have the competition they have a reason,to drive people's stores, women always know you go to tj maxx when, they get their tuesday deliveries you go,in there you find what they have you, pick it up,you go like it's limited supply i like, that it's gonna be hard to do online, and every location is different i think,a premium for retail,on tj maxx is worth it but i still think, the stock needs to fall, because what's the market cap 80. yeah,so it needs to fall by 30,or so 40 i i still like a 20 times, multiple for the free cash flow,it's growing it seems to be growin

Discount retailer TJX ‘comfortable’ with high inventory levels

Discount retailer TJX ‘comfortable’ with high inventory levels

well we were talking about inventories, earlier in akiko for our chart of the,day this morning we want to talk about, parent company of tj maxx and marshalls, which reported this morning better than, expected earnings but inventories were,up for the company again same story, across a lot of other companies that, have reported because it shows low, demand and a need to discount but seven, billion dollars that's up 37,year over year but you know for tjx,we've seen the stock, jump a lot i don't know if we have the, quote right now but lastly i when i was, looking it was in the green uh if you're,a discount retailer high inventory might, not be the worst thing which explains, why it's up seven percent because, you're a discount retailer you have more, options people can kind of sift through, and have some well you you know i'd be,curious to see how much of that in terms,of their sales starts to pick up because,to your point you know discount retailer, and obviously it's not just apparel, they've got home goods they've got other, you know brands there that certainly, even in good times so what's interesting, about, this whole story about inventories which,we were talking about at the top of the, show is that this is bad for most, retailers because again you're just, stuck holding the bag on all this stuff, that you can't sell and especially if,you have to start discounting it that, makes your margins worse but if you're a,discount retailer your margins are, already lower in fact higher volume is,what helps you and it's actually this, weird situation where tj maxx might be,benefiting from the more empowered, consumer you have a lot more product, coming through which means there's,higher you know because i mean look you, will spend what 30 45 minutes in a tj,maxx looking for something nice and if,you have more options available to you, then there's a higher probability you're,gonna walk out with something especially, even in this environment where you might,be willing to pay another two or three, dollars for a t-shirt because of some of,the leftover stimulus money so that's,why i want to emphasize that the better, statistic maybe to look at is the, adjusted pre-tax margin which was 9.4,for the quarter for tj maxx it was 7.2,percent the same time last year so even, though that chart that we showed you, there were lower inventories at the same, time last year it's actually coincided, with higher margins for this company as,well which i think is a reason why, they're one of the only winners on the, street well and you'd also think with, you know department stores we're talking, about sort of higher end that trickles, down right if they have additional, inventory that comes through to tj maxx, that's why you go to discount retailers,so they might have more inventory but, steeper discounts which would bring more, people into the store yeah and the call, happening right now management saying, that they're comfortable with the, inventory levels even though it's up 40,uh year over year but of course um i,don't kn

TJX's Initial Sell Off Was an Overreaction to Earnings

TJX's Initial Sell Off Was an Overreaction to Earnings

okay TJX companies released their, quarter today and shares opened up down, almost 5% and just really didn't make a,lot of sense to me and it looks like, cooler heads are prevailing and it's,coming back to almost break even for the,day in fairness I guess that the market, did open a little weak and maybe you, know who knows why it was down as much,as it was you can't here's the thing you, can't get too emotional about it,right there could have been a big fund, that this was their their q2 so sallet, who knows exactly why all right but you,got a goal with what the data says okay,so the data basically there it is on our, graphic revenue was up 4.8% earnings per, share was up 7.1 so nice that's great, and by the way you know we're not it's,not high growth company so that was, pretty much in line ok revenue missed by,one percent but earnings per share was, right in life okay so that's that's the, story don't look at that stock price, because you will just get confused and, you're really are better off to act on a,stock price if this is the earnings, report you get okay so and I get it why, people would be confused because my,goodness these headlines to come out, like TJX stock is slipping because, discount retails isn't safe anymore no,it says whoever TGX dips after missing, estimates signals more retail lows,no first of all they didn't miss they, were right in line now maybe I don't,think someone would publish a miss, unless their data said that but there's,no way it was a Miss by more than a,penny,or something like that because you know, our data said it was right in line if it,was a Miss it was you know they're using, another source of data and it was missed,by a penny maybe two at the most, like this is not it's correct it just it,kills me to listen like you really got,it I said you gotta be unemotional and,not read these headlines unless you just, want to do it for fun TJ I did that one, couple more in here Cramer wait to buy,TJX TJX missus earning below and opens, below key moving average moving average, nonsense drive me nuts, all right so pretty much let's just call,it inline and a nice move forward so low, growth that's fine that's what you got,in this company let's take a look at in,our work of course I should have a work,up there it is look at the return on,invested capital history,it's just year in and year out 20% plus, the worst year they I was 2008 2009 when,it was 16% that is a first world problem, valuations still very good like I just I,just not I'm just not on board with, those crazy headlines I read I just, think you got a XA this is a good, quality company they're doing what, they're supposed to do yeah they're in,low growth but they're they're punching, out good cash flows every quarter and, there's no reason they can't beat and, retail or discount retailers are not bad, none of that is true the data doesn't,say it and it certainly certainly not a,TJX so try not to be emotional TJX still, looks good, thank you for watching our investment, video this is the same analysis we
