hey everyone it's brandon with electric,marketing and today i'm going to be,doing a walkthrough of octane and why we,utilize their software for all of our,quizzes for our shopify and email and,sms clients,so first and foremost the reason why,quizzes are so important and such an,integral component to our,personalization strategy and,allow us to,improve retention and increase lifetime,value,is because it allows us to aggregate a,ton of zero party data on a customer and,zero party data is essentially data,that's being given explicitly by the,customer to a brand so,when i go ahead and take this skincare,quiz,when i tell them how much i time how,much time i spend on my skin care,five to fifteen minutes,that i,have,redness and,dry all over,so i just gave them three,points three data points of zero party,data this data now gets passed over to,clavio which we can use for further,segmentation in our email and sms,campaigns automated flows,and retention strategy moving forward,so fundamentally that's why quizzes are,such an integral part of what we do from,a marketing perspective the reason why,octane is such a strong tool and why we,use them for all of our quizzes on,shopify is because of the deep,integration that they have with clavio,as well as the conditional logic that,you can build out within,the account,so i won't dig too much into the actual,setup of the quiz itself but there's a,bunch of conditional logic and rules,that you can build out so that,certain,product recommendations and certain,content will only show to certain quiz,takers based off of their responses,the most important component there is,that they are then synced with clavio,so,you can see here,as an example,once i submit that email,you go to this picks page so,on the right hand side here we're,showing the three top products based off,of the,responses that the person has given so,they can add those to cart or they can,add all of them to cart which is a,unique feature of the octane tool,then,automatically clavioflow hits so the,customer or the prospect will receive,this email and because of the octane,integration we're able to pass through,the image of the product that was,recommended as well as the description,and then also this cta will click to the,results page as that's now saved by,octane so it will take them to back to a,shoppable results page as opposed to the,customer having to take a quiz again,now,this is where things get really,interesting isn't all the data that's,getting passed over so,here you can see a segment that we,created for a swimming under the eyes,campaign,and one of the things that we selected,was if they said that their primary skin,concern was dark circles so now we can,go ahead and create a campaign entirely,around dark circles and send it to that,group for a particular product and let's,say that product has multiple uses but,we want to talk to our segments,differently and we send an email to the,dark circles group all about dark,circles in that product but we

new features and improvements to the,number one quiz platform for shopify,uh one you can now preview your octane a,quiz while you are building it makes,sense uh probably should have had that,earlier now you can do it you can,preview your quiz while you're building,it you don't have to launch it this is,obviously super super useful,you can now automatically send customers,a link to their quiz results so they can,access them later so what the heck does,this mean if you have an octane eye quiz,on your store customer comes it takes,the quiz at the end it gives them a,beautiful results page it tells them why,they should get these products and what,products they should get,what you can do is you can now sync a,link a direct url,that will take them right back to that,results page and so you can send them an,email later and say hey we saved your,results for you,click here and go get them or you could,text it to them and once they click that,button it'll take them back to your,store with that exact results page,pulled up they don't have to go through,the whole quiz again so this is a really,useful feature you can now also,automatically add the exact product,recommendations from the quiz to your,clayview emails this is kind of similar,but it's a little a little bit different,if i take the quiz i get recommended,three products on your store you can now,send me an automated email from clavio,that says hey we saved those three,products that you got uh here's your,quiz results and in the email itself you,can actually show those actual products,so maybe i get uh three,set of three products somebody else gets,a different set of maybe four products,we'll get different emails with,different products and this is all uh,automatic so this is a highly requested,feature and it is now out and we are,very excited about it you can now send,free form text from the quiz to clavio,and use it to personalize your emails,and text so in your quiz you can ask for,someone's name or whatever else you want,and then you can use that data to,dynamically customize subject lines or,emails,with whatever that text is that they put,in this is super useful,soon so this is not out yet but coming,soon you will be able to customize all,the product info,on the products in your quiz results and,so this means that let's say you have a,skin care routine finder,and instead of just saying the names of,each product you actually want to change,it on the results page to say like step,one you should use this step two you,should use that maybe you want to change,some of the photos maybe you want to,make these relevant to a,recent like holiday or upcoming holiday,now you don't just have to use whatever,data you have associated with your,product in your store you can actually,customize it,inside the quiz to match you know,whatever that quiz experience is going,to be like maybe you want the product to,talk you know to a specific use case,depending on how someone answered the,questions,the last thing this is

how jones road uses octane ai to,increase their aov by 50,and 3x their money on tick tock,so the old way that cody and jones road,was running ads on tick tock is they'd,have their tick tock ad and they would,send that traffic directly to a product,on their store which is really typical,this is how a lot of brands uh run their,ad they send it directly to a product,and what they were seeing is they were,getting about a sixty dollar uh average,order value from this,what they started doing and this is the,new way is they would still run a tick,tock ad but instead of sending it to,directly to a product what they would do,is they would first send it to a listing,so a landing page uh here are five,amazing reasons why you will love bobby,brown's new clean beauty line jones road,beauty and the only call to action on,this entire page,was to take a quiz,so if you scroll down to the bottom of,the listicle,you'll see a call to action to take a,quiz it's the only button that you can,push so in order to get to the actual,jones road website you have to go,through,their quiz which is powered by octania,and the octane ai quiz asks a bunch of,questions that this company jones road,wants to know about these customers that,nobody else can tell them the only,people who can tell them is the actual,people who are browsing the site who,just look yet so you answer all these,questions what you know what is your,skin concern what type of skin do you,have who do you look like the most uh,what kind of products are you interested,in so many different questions and then,it asks for an email once it gets your,email and they've collected over 50 000,emails so far doing this so they're on,track to get over a half a million over,the next year uh just through this quiz,once you put in your information all,that data is sent to their clayview,account and so now their clayview,account not only has the emails but all,the answers to the quiz and they use,that to segment their welcome series and,their campaigns,based on who people are instead of,treating everybody exactly the same,and then at the end of the quiz it,recommends the exact products that are,right for that person based on their,answers and because it's not sending,people now to just one product like,their first version and it's offering,multiple selection uh which is,recommended you know purely based on the,answers to the quiz so it's really,really personalized,their aov,increased by 50,to 90,and so this has had a really big impact,on their advertising strategy now,they're replicating it on all the other,advertising platforms uh and they're,copying this exact uh methodology so if,you want to get all the information on,this not just the overview that i just,gave go to octanei.com customers and we,have a full write-up uh and the entire,video recording where cody the director,of e-commerce over at jones road walks,through exactly how he did everything,i've been a big quiz fan for for a while,and so we we run all of our tick tock,

so up next we have a man of many,different backgrounds uh Ben's a media,guy he's a entrepreneur he's an activist,uh he's done he's a podcast host he's,done pretty much everything it seems,like,um so then I'm referencing your your uh,your time at Northwestern and protesting,the news feed as the activist I was,gonna say well what was I an activist,for it that one uh I was so context for,everyone years ago when Facebook had uh,was young and was still in colleges they,launched a thing called the news feed,and that was really that that had a lot,of backlash and I woke up I was a junior,at Northwestern I was uh work I was,doing training to become an R.A and they,I didn't like it because they had all,these like things like this person broke,up this person got back together and so,I made a Facebook group called students,against Facebook news feed I told a few,internet friends about it and then I,left and then I got a phone call about,noon that day and I was like yo Ben have,you been are you at your computer and,I'm like no what's going on we're like,you're from the Facebook group went,viral it has 10 000 people in it I was,like wait what and what was happening,was the news feed was promoting my group,that was against the news feed and by,the end of that night it got to 100 000,people and by the end of the week 10 of,all of Facebook at the time had joined,my group and I was getting calls from,time the New York Times I got thousands,of messages I had three marriage,proposals in my inbox I think I still,have screenshots somewhere Mark did,eventually fix it I have a,email correspondents uh I had with Mark,about it plus we had a phone call and uh,yeah that that was a fun time a lot of,the early Facebook people remembered me,uh interestingly and fondly and then,even more so when I became the editor of,Mashable when I was covering them that,was always fun every time I would,interview mark,that is uh you know how many people are,on a first name basis with Mark I'm I'm,certainly not right now,um you know you never know what will,happen but,um that is that is quite the story and,so what exactly were you protesting,uh it wasn't that I thought the street,had to go away it was that I my face the,Facebook group I made asked for more,privacy features to be added that,there's a bunch of privacy features like,being able to say which things should,and should not be in the new like like,be allowed to be sent to the news feed,like I didn't want to have my breakups,or my people like you know in the news,feed more privacy control and to Mark,and Facebook credit they added those,things like a couple like a week or so,after the protest,well it worked so as I said activist,activists,um so anyways but well I I gave a brief,overview of of who you are,um and so first of all thank you for for,coming on that on the show uh or the the,stream uh but we'd love to hear it from,you from your mouth kind of your,background who you are and a little bit,about octane,so hi everyone I'm Ben uh
