Shopify 2.0 Metafields Tutorial (Real Store Examples)

shopify metafields are finally here,uh they're part of the overall shopify, online store 2.0 update,um which is a huge update that shopify, rolled out about mid 2021 okay so it's,been six months now,uh we've got a lot of new themes that, are on shopify online store 2.0,uh architecture and one of the most, important features that i want to talk, about today is meta fields metafields, have been available for a while but only, developers could use them because they, weren't part of the actual shopify admin, like the interface now that we have new, themes on online store 2.0 regular, people store owners marketers you can,use them as well firstly let's talk, about what are meta fields okay they're,basically custom fields, for products and for collections, okay what i mean by custom fields i mean, that, when you're,creating a new product right in your, shopify admin, you have the title field you have the, description box right you have the price, and you can upload images,so these are all fields right but you, don't have you're not able to create, your own custom fields, are you,um you're not able to say, split the description into two parts say,you want like a title and then you want, like a subtitle like like maybe one, sentence that goes under the title and, then you want the main description below, that right you can't create your own, like subtitle field or you couldn't,before but now you can, with matter fields okay so that's what, matter fields are they're custom fields,uh for your products mainly, and for your collections as well,so in this video,i'm going to be showing you how,you can use them how you can set up meta, fields so how you can define them first, you define meta fields, through settings in your shopify admin, and then you can use them on products, and i'm also going to show you how i'm,using metafields now,on a real website so that you can have, like a real life example, okay actually let's jump right into a,real life example okay i'm gonna show, you this first how how this brand fresh, ego kid, they're a client of mine okay and i've,been working on their site over the past, year or so just adding little upgrades, just little features that they wanted, and, one of these features is this other, options thing right this other options, section as you can see it's just it's,the same pants in a different color, and they call it other options and they, have lots of products across their store, that have this other options, section so how do they actually add this, right because this isn't an app,um they didn't want to pay for an app, they'd rather pay me one time so that i,could um set this up for them, and then they have this ability and they, don't need to rely on an app or pay for,an app monthly or anything like that and, this is using meta fields okay,um,so let me show you how that, what that looks like,so let's jump into the product admin,um this is that same product, and if we scroll all the way down to the, bottom, look at this we have meta fields right,we didn't have this before we didn't,

The above is a brief introduction to Metafields2

Let's move on to the first section of Metafields2

Shopify 2.0 Metafields: The complete Guide (Different Options +How to use them)

Shopify 2.0 Metafields: The complete Guide (Different Options +How to use them)

with metaphase i'm able to do things, that i needed to hire web developers, before to do,meta feeds will give you the ability to,customize your store as a pro without, doing any coding as an e-commerce store, owner most probably you don't care about, anything but creating a highly, converting very well designed shopify, store and meta fields will help you, exactly to do that without the need to,hire anyone or to pay for anyone in,order to design and modify your store, shopify released a new update few months, ago and this update is actually the, biggest and boldest update in shopify's,history i have talked before about this, update many times on this youtube, channel but in today's video i'm going,to talk about the best thing about this, update and they are the meta fields in,today's video i'm going to show you the, different type of meta fields that you,can create and i'm going to give you, recommendations about how to use each, one of them but before starting with our, video there are three things that i want, you to do first i want to invite you to,like this video because by liking it you, will help me to reach more and more, people second i want you to subscribe to,my channel and to hit the notification, bell because in this way you will get, notified each time i publish a new video, and third i want to invite you to sign,up to my free workshop in this free, workshop i show you the exact framework, that you should be applying to your, business in order to make it sustainable, and strong so if you are looking to,create a sustainable strong ecommerce, business i highly recommend you to sign,up to this free workshop remember it's,100 free and you don't need to pay, anything just go down and sign up and, this is it,and now let's move to my screen to see,the different meta field types and how,to use them,so from your shopify dashboard under, settings you go to meta fields, and here you can create for now meta, fields for products and for variants, later on shopify will allow us to create, meta fields for collections for, customers and for orders let's go to,products, and when we click on add definition we,can see from here the different types, that we can create, until now i didn't find any use for the, color meta field if you have any idea, please let me know in the comment, section below the second meta feed you, have is date and time and it goes, without saying it shows certain date and, time that's,very specific for each product so if i,created this meta feed from here and i,called the date and time, when i go back to my products,i can see, that now for each product i have a new, characteristic which is the date and, time, you can use this method field to tell, your customers when a product for, example is back in stock or if you are, launching a new product this also could,be the date of publishing the new, product, now going back to the online store, let me show you how you can add this, meta field this meta feed is actually a,text based meta field which means you, just need to add a text block and

3 Apps To Bulk Edit Metafields In Shopify Online Store 2.0 (2022 June)

3 Apps To Bulk Edit Metafields In Shopify Online Store 2.0 (2022 June)

what's up guys today's video is for, everyone that is using metafields on,their store maybe for collection filters, maybe for,uh displaying something on the product, page it doesn't really matter the point,is you already know how meta fields work, you've got them set up on your product, page here they're showing up but you've,realized that you have a lot of work to,do if you have hundreds of products and,you need to fill out these meta fields,on the product page for each product, right um and you're looking for a way to,do it in bulk so i've actually already, made a video like that answering how to,do it in bulk, that's this video and i published it in,just january of this year so only like, four or five months ago that video talks, about a method kind of a trick for using, shopify's bulk editor the built-in bulk, editor you know the one that you access,by,clicking here and going edit products, and then we can actually change a little, bit of the url right i show you how in,this video to,make the meta fields visible here and to,edit them here so the problem is and why,i'm making this video is because it,seems like this method is already, outdated because, shopify has recently updated or is,rolling out an update that is affecting, some stores so this no longer works on,all stores of course you can watch this, video you can look up this video and see,if this method works for you and then, you don't need to use an app, right but if this method is no longer, working for you, then i'm afraid that you need to use an,app and that's what i've been doing, recently on my client stores is uh using, various apps to bulk edit meta fields i,don't think that there's really any, other way to do it right now okay let's,go right ahead and i'll show you the, different apps and the reason that i'm,showing you three different apps is,because, they all work with slightly different, methods and one might be better for your, specific requirements and just a quick, note that i'm not sponsored by any of,these apps i don't even have an,affiliate link for any of these apps, because none of them have an affiliate, program you know unfortunately for me,uh,so yeah this is just purely a,recommendation based on what i use,i'm not making any money of this video,at all so the three apps are going to be,meta fields guru matrix fi and bulk, product edit okay let's start with meta, fields guru this is a classic and,well-known app for editing meta fields,i'm sure you might have run into it,before, but yeah it's probably the leading app,for editing meta fields and it's got, this uh bulk editor right and it's got, this excel like editor these are, actually two different things the first, thing is the excel like editor this is,this is really nice really useful it,shows you basically a spreadsheet um,you add whatever meta fields you want to,edit so i'm going to add the fabric, meta field for my products i'm going to,say confirm, and this little slider here i like this,it's just saying not to add too many, because this can make th

Getting started with Shopify Metafields

Getting started with Shopify Metafields

foreign, what's up YouTube Welcome Back to,another edition of coding with Robbie my,name is Robbie and in this video we're,going to be covering Shopify meta Fields,so uh before we get started make sure to,like subscribe leave a comment let me,know you're there and uh yeah you're,probably wondering Robbie what's a meta, field well it is basically a place to,store additional data in Shopify so you,can add a meta field to products, collections your shop pretty much any, object in Shopify you can add a meta, fuel to and it's a little bit of a,hidden feature because if you're in your, admin dashboard there is no way to add a,meta field through this dashboard it can, only be done through the API so you have,to depend on an app to do this but, there's some really good apps out there, and it's uh not difficult at all and uh,yeah so what is this good for let me,kind of paint a scenario for you so say,we have a product page like this and, down here we have a specifications area, and really if you go to the product um,editor page, really the only place you get the store, data, sorry it's just taking a second to load, extremely long time to load that's weird,I just kind of ruined my whole segment, come on,what the Shopify, all right there we go they're really the, only place you get to uh store data is,the title description and media fields, and then there's some price and stuff, but you know there's really no place to,add specification data so you're,probably thinking oh we got settings why, don't you just use,um section settings so I kind of set, that up to show you the issue with that,so let's say we're on products I got my,default product and I got settings for,it right here but this is just for the, default product so say I have 20,products for every single one I'm gonna, have to uh create a new template and, let's call this one a leather jacket, and let's say hey the leather jacket, maybe it's you know,54 and 32 and we save it and that's,going to create an additional template, file on our theme and then we have to go,Within, products and we have to find the leather, jacket or really any product we want to,use it on,Shopify is really slow today and then I,gotta go hey I don't want to use the, default template I want to use that new,one I created and this is just going to,create a ton of bloat within your theme, you're going to end up with hundreds of,template files and it's just really a,bad way to do it so before we go any, further I'm just going to delete that, new template we created so let's go to,online store and just go to your theme, and go to edit code, and then find the newly created uh,product template mine's right here I'm,just going to trash it,there we go so in order to add meta, fields to your store you're going to,have to download an app if you just, search for meta fields on the App Store, there's a bunch of different ones and by,far the best app is meta Fields Guru so,I'd highly recommend this app you just, come here and add app and once you do,add it to your store you get to

How To Bulk Edit Metafields In Shopify Online Store 2.0 (2022)

How To Bulk Edit Metafields In Shopify Online Store 2.0 (2022)

if you're watching this video then i'm,assuming you have a large store with, lots of products, and also that you're already using, metafields or at least you're quite, familiar with metafields if you're not, very comfortable with metafields i've,actually already created a video, introducing metafields and you'll find, the link for that in the top left of,this video right now,the problem you might be having if you,do have a large store,is that you have lots of matter fields,to fill out,and it's very very time consuming to go,into every product page scroll down to,the bottom fill out the meta field and, then go to the next product and do the, same thing,it's ridiculous to do that for say 500,products normally when you need to edit, your products in bulk you can go to this, all products page click this check box,and select all products in your store, then click on edit products and it will, show you fields that you can edit in,bulk and you can add fields to this page, with this drop down but as you can see,our meta fields don't show up here these, are only default shopify fields luckily, there is a way to get around this, limitation, remember my fabric metal field that i'm,using on this product, well here it is in the bulk editor,so it is possible to access metafields,in the bulk editor and this is done by,paying attention to the url let's go,back to the bulk editor that i opened, which is just showing the standard price, field,so let's have a look at this url,it says admin bulk okay and then we have, resource name is product okay so we're,editing products and that says edit and, that says variance dot price, okay that's because it's showing the, price,so how about we try to change this,we're going to type meta fields okay, and then we need the name space and key,of our meta field that we want to edit, okay and you can find this,on the metafield definitions page which, you can access by going to settings, and then meta fields so you can see my,meta fields here i have like length and, fabric,so my fabric matter field is,metafields.specs.fabric this is called, the namespace and this is the key,but basically, you're going to copy and paste or type, this in,and we don't need the product part so,just metafields.specs.fabric,that's going to go,i lost it but that's going to go,right after edit equals, right and we go meta fields dot specs, dot fabric, okay and hit enter, and there we go there's my fabric meta, field, now you can actually edit more than one, meta field at a time so we can have just,as we can add fields like the title,or,like tags,we can also, add extra meta fields, and the way you can do that is to,separate all your meta fields, with, percent to c okay so after our meta, field, after our fabric matter field we're,gonna type percentage sign 2,and capital c,and then we're going to write meta, fields, again those specs, dot length this time okay because this,is the name space and key of my length, meta field, okay, and the url's just jumped again, but here we are matter field specs, fabric then p

Shopify Metafields - How to use Custom Fields

Shopify Metafields - How to use Custom Fields

hey everyone yang here codingwithyen.com,and today we're going to have a look at,shopify meta fields sometimes also, called custom fields really important, stuff because they basically allow us to,store additional information for, products orders or other important, objects and especially in the context of,online store 2.0 there were some, significant changes you need to know, about so let's have a look, all right so starting this video off, let's quickly talk about why we need, meta fields in the first place and why, they are so important, and i assume you all know how to create, products in shopify you just go to the, admin dashboard or products and when you,add a new one,the editor is pretty straightforward you, just enter a title a description, you can upload a few images set the, price,or add a bit of further information like, the stock keeping unit and so forth and,we could say this editor is quite good, because it works with most products and,i mean that's what it's designed for but, there are also certain instances where, you want to display additional details,in this example it could be the, headphones sensitivity the charging, current the voltage the battery type and,so forth and then you wouldn't find, suitable input fields here or let me,also give another example,if someone was in the food industry or,maybe selling supplements they would, want to enter nutrition values like, calories sugar the different vitamins, and then you wouldn't find suitable, input fields in here as well, and then you could create meta fields to,store that additional information so,that's what they are mainly used for, okay now in the past the only way to,create meta fields though was by using, apps or some hacky workarounds and now, shopify actually released a native, feature that also integrates very well, with the new theme architecture that we,talked about in my last video and that's,what i want to show you today, okay so first i want to show you some of,the new customizer features and as you,can see i currently have the dawn theme, installed a theme built on the 2.0,architecture that's very important and, then let's just visit the customizer, and bring up one of the product pages,so i have this collection right here, with three different headphones uh let's,just bring up the first one,and now i want to add a bit of the meta, information or additional information, that i just mentioned something like, sensitivity, voltage and charging current, and then we could create,a new block element right here, and let's use one of these collapsible, tabs, down here, and then we could just name that details, and paste some of the details right here,i already have them in my clipboard,so sensitivity 110 decibels voltage and, recharging current, let's give it a save for now, okay now we can find these values on the, front end so sensitivity voltage and, recharging current and the only problem,is that these values are now hard coded,or let's say constant across all the, product pages, let me even show you that,so,here we have

Overcome Shopify Variant Limitations by Using Metafields

Overcome Shopify Variant Limitations by Using Metafields

hi there my name is Tara mcginn I'm a,Shopify coder and Problem Solver and I'm,here today to walk you through a,solution that I've developed to overcome, the Shopify options limit,of three options and the variance limit,of 100 variants using Shopify metafield,so no app required we're here today, looking at one of my clients websites, wind jewelry is a beautiful handmade, nature inspired jewelry company in,Seattle Washington, and she came to me with an issue that, she had you know her metal colors for,Rings the bandwidth many of her rings, have gemstones there's the gemstone size, there's also the ring size there's just,so many different options for these, rings, she was using an app a product options, app and a variant image app to sort of,help group things together but just, found the overall system very cumbersome, and slow to load and the apps can be,expensive on a monthly basis as well so,we developed a custom solution using, product meta Fields some of the things, that I really like about this this, solution are that we actually are, linking several different products, together with these swatches so here,we're looking at a tide pools yellow, gold ring,it's got a thin band it has a Montana,Sapphire gemstone if I click on Red Gold,it actually takes me to the exact same, band same Montana Sapphire gemstone same, bandwidth but now it's in Red Gold it's,actually these swatches take us to,entirely different products,um likewise now if I am to click on the, wide width band it keeps the Red Gold, the same it keeps the gemstone the same, but now it takes us to the product that, has those exact same settings but in a,wide width band,so we sort of have the look and feel, here of variant but actually what we're,doing is linking different products, together this has the advantage of,making it really easy to group images, together there's no confusion here as,I'm clicking through images about, exactly which variant these images are, for, when we have a lot of variants for one, product all of those variant images, thumbnails appear and it can become, quite disorienting for the customer to,understand which variant it is that, they're looking for,by creating different products for each,of these it's really obvious we're just, seeing the prop the images for the, product that we're looking at,the other advantage of doing it this way,is that our collection pages are nice, and full so for the tide pools ring, collection as I'm scrolling through I,see all of the different bandwidths I,see all of the metal colors I also see,all of the different gemstones available,so that it's really clear to me that, there's a wide variety available to suit,my tastes,so you simply have the best of both, worlds here we have each product listing,as an individual product so our, collection pages are full each ring can,be retargeted directly on social media, and yet we are it's also very clear when,we're looking at a ring that it's,available in more options than what we,see just in these images,so this is all accomplished uh

Collection Filters in Shopify 2.0 - Full Tutorial & Concepts

Collection Filters in Shopify 2.0 - Full Tutorial & Concepts

shopify 2.0 has completely changed the,way that filtering works,we now have a brand new filters section, under the navigation in the shopify, dashboard we can finally filter by price,we can filter by product options like, size without having to tag products with, the size or the price as we had to do,previously on the other hand we are, losing tag based filtering and i know, that's a big deal for many of you, especially if you have a large store, your entire, catalog may have been organized around, tags and now you have to rethink your, whole system it's maybe even a deal, breaker for you with upgrading to,shopify 2.0 but don't worry i'm going to,give you some tips on how you can, transition from the old tag based, filtering system to the new one in,general in this video i'll quickly, discuss the differences between the old, filtering system and the new one in,shopify 2.0 then i'll move on to kind of,a tutorial format i'll teach you, everything about setting up filters and,i'll show you lots of examples first i'm,going to show you how to set up basic, filters like size and price then i'll,show you how to create your own custom, filters using fields my example will be,filtering by fabric and you'll be able,to filter by cotton wool or polyester, and you can apply this knowledge to,whatever it is that you sell it's going,to be the same concept i'll also briefly, talk about color filters and why this is,the most difficult kind of filter to set,up and finally i'll discuss filtering, apps there are a couple of situations, when, filtering apps might be the best, solution for your store for example if,you still really need filtering by tag,and you also want filtering by price and, other advanced filters right then you, might need to use an app but first let's,talk about the difference between the,old filters and the new ones so finally, filters are now a built-in part of,shopify instead of being a feature of a,theme, that's very important difference this is,the reason why,the whole system has changed filtering,in shopify used to be done inside of the, theme some themes had filters and some, did not,so if you wanted filters firstly you had,to get a theme that actually offered, that feature and what you would do is,you tag your products and then you set,up the filters inside the theme, customizer not inside the shopify, dashboard but inside the theme right and, this was very inconvenient because every, theme had a different way of setting, them up you had to read the instructions, for that particular theme and then you,had to name your tags accordingly right,so,usually with underscores or dashes or,some specific format so that those, filters got grouped and they would show,up in the correct way this was bad for a,few reasons firstly it's confusing there, were many times when a client asked me,to help with a bug when really it was, just a matter of naming the filters, correctly it was also time consuming, because you had to manually tag all of,your products or you had to use some, kind of bulk editin

HOW TO USE SHOPIFY METAFIELDS - EXPLAINED by Shopify Experts

HOW TO USE SHOPIFY METAFIELDS - EXPLAINED by Shopify Experts

all right yes let's go over this real, quick Mehta feels what is it why do you, need it we get so many questions we,often use and we often use them in the, fields but I always get the question, from clients what men ever what why how,and the concept is really simple, you see if you go to a product page,we're gonna use product pages as an,example if you go to a product page you,get this beautiful masterpiece right, here that you follow so it's always the, same thing you got your title where you, fill in your title you got your, description you fill in your description, you had a little image I'm highly, creative and very good here you have, your variants large extra-large and then, here at the bottom you have the search, engine previous unit cently that there,as well and you got the product type and,you can say vendor from where it comes, which collection it comes to and then, you can say oh the tags some little, extra info one word two word tags you,can put in there all right awesome but,now if we look at a page the web page, and we will overlay that into video so,you also have the title and in the, description and then the image and the, defender and then you know two very into, the price and that's it,so now I have a lot of clients that come,to me and say okay but I want the, description here but then I also want, like some information here below and, some other information here and you know,I want my prom pictures to be here but, then I also want some product pictures, here and here and here so here you're,kind of stuck with this format always, title description and,so what momenta fields allows you to do,is the minute fields allows you to,basically say hey you know what we're,gonna add the next row fields let's say, here and this is gonna be description, number two this crib should yeah but can,you get the point number two I'm not, good you're good and this is gonna be,description number two and you know what,we're gonna have an extra image field, image and you can add the images of your, person using the cup because you're,selling I don't know I don't know it's,Friday night I don't know but the point,is that you can add extra fields you can,say we used tons of information you want,to description you want to turn, description one a for description you, want 20 different descriptions so that,is what meta fields and many fields, managers allow you to do they basically, allow you to add additional fields, instead of just the title description, and the fixed fields that you already, have and that is why you use meta fields, now you will see that all the minute, fields manager you always ask you to,same thing they ask you a key and they, ask you value well yeah because a key,the developer is going to put inside, code of the web page he's going to say, inside the code okay this little part of,the web page is going to be the,Minnifield but of course if he just says,Menna fields the middle field or code, your system is gonna say okay but which,Minnifield do you want description many, fields you

Shopify Metafields: How to Add Custom Fields in Shopify (Online Store 2.0)

Shopify Metafields: How to Add Custom Fields in Shopify (Online Store 2.0)

for years and years adding custom fields,in shopify was a tricky process, you had to use hidden urls or worse, install unreliable browser extensions,in order to add and edit them then for, displaying that field in your theme the, only option was to hard code that field, directly into your theme code that is,until shopify announced the new meta, field system,at unite 2021 and my god has the system, improved this new update allows you to,edit metafields, directly from the admin alongside the, standard fields, within a resources edit page and, combined with the new data linking, feature, inside the store editor you can link the, newly created meta fields,to section settings removing the need to,write any code at all,to bring metafields onto your front end,in this video let's take a look at how,we manage metafields in shopify, under the new online store 2.0 system, always i'm going to start off this video, inside my development store, chris testing shop as we spoke about in,the last video despite the wording from, shopify regarding, all online stores created after june 29,2021 being online store 2.0 stores,it seems like all the features talked, about in online store 2.0,are applying to all stores no matter, whether they were created before,or after june 29 2021.,if i scroll down you can see i can, connect with github,i can go into settings and add meta, fields like we're going to do in today's,video, and i can run the dawn theme,as you'll see in this tutorial so it,seems that at the time of this recording,it doesn't matter whether your store was, created before june 29 or after, you're going to have access to all these, features so of course in this video,we're going to be talking about, shopify meta fields one of the most, exciting features to come out with these, suite of changes that shopify are, calling online store 2.0,and it's pretty simple to get started, what i'm going to do is i'm going to,head into my customizer or theme editor,as they now call it,and i'm going to head to the default, product template, here you can see i've got one of my,example products loaded up,and here you can see the main product, information section with all of these, blocks, all right so one of the cool things that,is new in this online store 2.0,experience,is data linking so if i click on this, one here, you'll see that we've got the vendor, field, linked up in this text field right here,so here you can see,the vendor on this particular product is,shopify, and that's a dynamic field that comes, through the specific product, onto the front end via here so if we,wanted to hard code this and make this, something else like product title below, now you can see it changes to product, title below but it's not dynamic,so now every product that uses this, template,is going to have that text so this is,something that's super cool within, online store 2.0 we can add a dynamic, source and,we could add for instance the vendor, here,if i go to the next one down you can see, this one,is just title it doesn't have any, settings but yo
