may have heard of amazon,uh so amazon is a great resource just,because it has every product,right uh and what we're gonna do is show,you a few tools you can use to you know,coordinate with amazon to uh you know,just to further,further your your knowledge you're,getting here so so first step is we're,going to go,down to the best sellers okay and so,uh this is a section that a lot of,people don't know about but,it's it's super helpful so you know what,you get is you get,all the different categories here on the,left which is nice,and then you have this other area up top,which is,is really all of the kind of different,buckets so,i have the category i.e electronics and,then i have a different buckets where i,can say,best sellers new releases new releases,movers and shakers okay so that's a,great,you know way to do it so you might say,hey okay i'm interested in electronics,if i go to best sellers i'm gonna get a,ton of interesting products this is,going to be,it's like going to be tier 1 electronics,that are going to be hard to source but,it's good to know about this,you can also see it breaks down a lot of,subsections beyond,uh electronics so electronics and maybe,hey you know marine,electronics that feels like a good niche,right and so i think there is that kind,of part of this that,um you know we have to we have to pick,niches that we can win in,and so saying i'm going to be the top,computer store on the internet,that might be hard uh saying i might be,the one i'm gonna really,uh top five top ten marine,electronics that's a better niche i,think we can play in,right so anyway amazon's you know that's,kind of the basic amazon part where,go to the best seller section then i,would probably say,you know movers and shakers feel like a,better place to look,if i'm looking for dropship products,especially when i'm starting out or new,releases would make sense as well,and then you know filter filter by the,category so,um kitchen right so now i'm on kitchen,uh movers and shakers great place to be,right if you,focus you know you're gonna create a,shopify store about,knives kitchen knives good niche and,then,and then i can just focus on on that,okay,so we can go a lot deeper i mean,amazon's got,a lot of stuff i think for the for the,purpose of this course and kind of,finding products,i think that's a great um you know great,start,so so second to second up we got camel,camel camel,uh so camel camel camel is a price,checking app right so if i'm going to go,and say i like,kitchen uh products i'm just going to go,ahead and say kitchen,okay what comes up for kitchen okay this,this knife set here,and then now i have the the camo camel,camel,price breakdown the historic uh price,breakdown of this this product,right so if you're if you're buying that,inventory you can know,where to go where good price is and you,um can figure out where the market is so,this is helpful you can set alerts you,know once again i'm not going to go into,all the different details here,but uh b

hello hello my shopify drop shippers,let's talk about drop shipping math why,is this important,we need to model this out before we,spend the next five years working on a,business just to then realize that we,didn't understand the math going into it,right,i've done that before create an ios app,really excited,only to realize that i'm only making,pennies you know every time someone buys,something so,so we really want to understand the math,just to make sure we know what we're,getting into,right so meaningful profits require,scale and e-commerce what does that mean,well we're all getting into this to make,money,right it's not just to make a store for,fun and so,we have to understand that in order to,generate real money they can pay for,things like our rent our food,it just just in e-commerce it requires,scale right so,e-commerce is low margin could be 10,margin 20 30 but it's not 90,like traditional software so it's low,margin that means it requires,scale requires lots of sales to make any,good money,uh how do you make sales well uh,marketing is crucial right if we have to,have,scale to be successful in e-commerce,then what does scale mean typically,skill would mean marketing scale,right i'm not going to be able to scale,as large as i want in terms of sales,without really understanding and being,good at marketing,and then also everything always takes,longer,and is more expensive in in business,right so,if you think you're going to get there,in a year it's going to take three years,if you think it's going to take five,years it'll probably take 10 years,it's always more expensive there's a lot,of hidden costs here,that we don't that we don't always,factor in and we don't always truly,understand so the goal of this little,mini lecture is just to really,uh just help you understand some of,those those those nuances,okay so so here is the goal right a,thousand dollars a month would be great,any of us would would take a thousand,dollars a month in any business that we,were part of,okay so um so what you have here is a,very kind of generic breakdown,of what it may look like to get to a,thousand dollars a month in profit,right so it's not a small number,i actually have it miled out to say it's,17,000 a month in sales to get the 1k in,profit you're going whoa whoa whoa,that's,that doesn't you know line up well let's,look at it right so,on that 17k let's say i have 20 margins,right that's a thing that's that's not,necessarily as well understood in,e-commerce if i sell something,for a hundred dollars it's like i'm not,making a hundred dollars i'm making a,sub,part of that i'm making whatever that my,profit margin was right so,let's just say your profit margin is 20,percent uh on a kind of standard drop,shipping where i'm not touching the,product and it's,and i'm not the brand twenty percent,feels,pretty good you know also two you're,building these models better to build it,uh you know light in terms of the margin,than high meaning,i'm gonna say hey look um it's

Consulting vs Dropshipping with the Business Model Barbell: Part 1

in this video we're going to talk about,consulting versus drop shipping in terms,of how to use consulting to help improve,your drop shipping business,a lot of entrepreneurs don't know where,to get started and so we want to make a,quick video here about some of the,things i've done in my journey with,merch mixer to,give you some maybe tactical insights on,how to set up your ventures,right so just about me i'm matt smith,i'm the ceo of merch mixer,facebook invested my first company from,there i worked with,stack commerce helped build up the,supply of their products and deals and,that that coming was acquired by tpg,which is a top private equity firm i've,worked at uh appsumo is another,interesting startup i worked at that's,decently well known and i built my own,kind of consulting and sas companies i,kind of dive into some of the tactics,there,so really i think to get started in,digital entrepreneurship consulting is a,great place to start and doing services,is a great place to start,for a variety of reasons and we'll talk,about those,from building a product is not that easy,building a sas app,a service is more customizable maybe,easier to get off the ground takes less,capital so generally as an entrepreneur,i always recommend for people to have a,consulting business even if you are,primarily doing w-2 work it's good to,have your own consulting business,there's tax advantages,and,you are more nimble if you have your,business kind of set up with your brand,etc,and so,obviously consulting businesses can,scale to 100k in my opinion faster than,a lot of,other types of product-based businesses,and so for a lot of people 100k is a,target right that they want to make,annually in terms of their income they,have to make,and therefore this is a good number for,us to think about kind of our first,businesses or our core business in our,portfolio of businesses which is even,better,the services can be a bit more,customizable to the market,and and they're just easier to execute,from my experience,in terms of setting them up getting,started you're kind of getting money,quickly in the door getting to in front,of customers quickly,is also important so if i have a new,consulting business i want to spin up i,can get up a website in a day or two in,a week in a month and then i can start,emailing people and running ads against,that that service and seeing what,happens right where if i have to build,an app for ios or you know whatever,business it's going to be a bit more,complicated,and so those businesses just take a lot,of scale which means a lot of money and,time and you you may not have money or,time,uh and so if you think about the way to,do,this type of business for me has been,having two different businesses and one,is a,consulting business and one is a product,business those could be one business,entity depending on how you're,structuring it,but for me what i've found is having two,different entities,and teams going after two different,opportunities or the way i'

MerchMixer Shopify App: Traffic Conversion Funnel Overview

all right let's talk about the,conversion funnel,so to get the sales that you're gonna,need,you're gonna have to get a lot of,traffic and online marketing is really,hard,so just you you have to know that going,into creating your drop shipping,store on shopify online marketing is key,as we've brought up several different,times,and you know it's gonna have to get a,lot of traffic so not only is it hard,but also you have to get a lot of it so,that makes it even harder right,uh you have to get a lot of traffic to,be successful to have the sales and,profits that you need,you don't need a massive budget to do,the initial,testing and so that being said what,is a big budget for someone you know,someone one person may not be,as big for another but you you need some,type of budget to do the initial testing,so i would say 500 bucks a thousand,dollars per,channel so some people spend 100 on,facebook and say facebook didn't work,that's not enough right there's things,in stats,about sample sizes right you just have,to have a large enough sample size,so what does that mean i mean it means,probably,ideally hundreds of visitors coming to,your your store via your your kind of,test,so if i'm gonna do a facebook test like,i don't need a ton of money i don't need,a million dollars,but i need a thousand dollars to,probably test facebook,well right and there's a lot of,different factors like what product,you're promoting et cetera so,so you don't need a huge budget to test,but you do need a budget to test you,can't test with xero unless you're going,to do all the marketing yourself,most people talk about facebook,advertising which does require capital,something like content marketing,wouldn't right if you can create the,content yourself,but to scale the traffic,you do need a budget right because if,you say well,i'm going to test it and i'm going to,create the content do the blogging,myself,and i'm going to create you know 10 blog,posts a week,you know eventually okay like if it,works then,it's let's do 20 or 30 blog posts and,then you're going to have to pay someone,right so you you do need a budget to do,online marketing in general,uh so let's think about this for a,second so,you have to focus on one channel at a,time,right so here's a typical thing that i,see hey i'm doing my my new shopify,store,so i'm gonna start tweeting i'm gonna,start facebooking,i'm gonna buy some facebook ads i'm,gonna send an email,i'm gonna you know do this do that and,so you basically do 20 things you do 20,things,not well so just focus on one channel,and one thing,okay most people talk about facebook ads,but but let's not use facebook ads since,that's kind of a,tired channel at this point let's say,affiliates,i'm going to get tons of affiliates to,promote my deals,great so just focus on affiliates just,focus on affiliates for a month,and really try to figure it out versus,spreading yourself too thin,you might be doing this part time you,might be doing this,you know not full time you'll hav
