This Wearable Allows You To Control Machines With Your Mind

This Wearable Allows You To Control Machines With Your Mind

there's no wearable that lets you, control your computer with your mind,it's being developed by control labs a,Manhattan based start-up that's backed,by tech giants Amazon and alphabet, control Labs develops neural interfaces,to make our interactions with technology, more fluid to the point where devices, feel like they're become part of you,Patrick K Fache founded control labs, with Thomas Reardon both of them have,PhDs in neuroscience from Columbia,University and Reardon also created,Internet Explorer while he was at,Microsoft to make this human machine, link possible kay Fache and Reardon, figured out how to tap into the body's,nervous system your brain actually, generates commands that then propagate, out to your muscles to allow you to move,in the world that's all relayed via, what's called the motor nervous system, ultimately your brain sends down a,signal down to your spinal cord in your, spinal cord in turn relays that out to,the muscles this is an electrical signal, that actually is received at the muscle,an armband outfitted with a number of,sensors detects this electrical activity, and sends it to a computer from their, algorithms decode it and use the signals,to manipulate a machine users can then,do things like scroll through text turn,a dial or select items from a menu the, signals can even be used to control, robots you don't actually have to move, for us to decode some of your intentions, what you have to do is generate that, electrical pulse so what you notice is,my hand looks like it's in a fist right, now but if she just keeps me from, opening my hand I can actually open my,hand all the way or we can turn it here, you'll notice I can like do one finger,or two fingers or my whole hand I do,that by just generating, nerve impulse even though I'm not moving,we don't decode your movement you decode, your intention I got to give the system,of go to see if it really works, first I had to calibrate the sensors to,my neural signals it wasn't perfect but,the system was able to detect less, intricate motions such as picking up a,water bottle or practicing the Queen's,wave next I got to really put the system,to the test,my task so hit a number of moving, targets by just thinking about where I,wanted the cursor to go and trying to,not move my hand you basically want to,retrain yourself to think about how, you're gonna generate force without, really moving because you don't have to,but you're used to doing that as the, demo progressed the system got better at,reading my neural signals and I got, faster at hitting the targets people, have hurt us all the time and asked us,you know what's the first use case for, this technology it's as if I came to you,and in the end of the 19th century and, said hey look we have this new thing, called electricity and we can generate,it on the fly and you're the VC and you, asked me like so what are you gonna use, this electricity for and I'm like what, are we not gonna use it for your phone a,tablet the computer that's built into a,kiosk at the ai

Virtual Machines vs Containers

Virtual Machines vs Containers

hello everyone in this video we're going,to talk about the difference between, virtual machines and containers but, before we talk about the difference, between the two let's go back and talk, about how things were before VMS and, containers so the traditional way that a,company or a business operates is by,having applications running on servers, and each server would just have one, application running whether that, application is running a website a,database or email so it would be one, application on one server and this was, because the operating systems on these, servers such as Linux and windows didn't,really have the capability to run, multiple applications securely on a,single server so with each new, application that a company or a business, offered they would have to buy a new, server for it to run on and on top of,that the application wouldn't be able to,take full advantage of the server's,capability because modern servers today, are so powerful that oftentimes the, server is only running at 10 percent of,its capacity so by running one, application on one server turned out to,be a big waste of money and also on the, server's full potential,so to fix this problem Engineers, developed virtual machines virtual, machines allows multiple applications to,run on a single server by simulating, hardware and software so for example if,a company had three servers running one, application each those three, applications can be run on a single, server by simulating those three servers, and their applications by creating three, virtual machines so now this one server,is running three virtual or,software-based machines it's running all,of the different operating systems and, also the applications such as databases, web services and email and they're all, running side by side on one machine,so as you can see on this graphic to,build virtual machines you start off, with Hardware such as a server and then,on top of the hardware there is software, called a hypervisor a hypervisor is what, allows one machine to run multiple, virtual machines it's what allocates and, controls the sharing of a machine's,Hardware some common hypervisors are,VMware esxi Citrix Zen server and,Microsoft hyper-v and on top of the, hypervisor are the virtual machines and, each of these will have their own, operating system such as Windows Linux, and Unix and then on top of the, operating systems there's the, applications that these machines are, going to be running so as you can see, virtual machines solve the problem of,wasting money on new servers but as,great as they are they do have some, drawbacks and one of them is that VMS,can consume a lot of disk space and this,is because each VM has its own dedicated, operating system and because they have, their own operating system VMS also, consume a lot of RAM and CPU power from, the server that could be used for other, processes and VMS are slow to start up,because since they have an entire, operating system they do take time to,boot up and with each VM it also, requires a license for

Z Machine: the People

Z Machine: the People

one day, you'll be protecting vacuum,we have a tool here that nobody else on,the planet does and this provides a sort,of unfettered and exclusive access to,states that just cannot be created any, other way outside of a weapons test D is,basically a giant battery it's a big, capacitor bank the entire innards of Z,is a series of stages meant to simply, take that electrical pulse and compress,it in space compress it in time and, generate the most extreme pulse of,electrical power that you can on this, planet and that energy is funneled down,to a tiny little centimeter sized target, region at the very middle of the, facility and that's where the physics, experiment is but you need all of this, infrastructure to be able to create that, that Momentis pulse of energy that we,use in our experiments Z is coupling, more power to the center of the Machine, than the entire world's power generation, capacity in fact many times over, there is a massive operation that has to,be undertaken for every single shot the, teams that are actually doing the, science that are looking to accomplish, some kind of scientific goal here on the, machine they may be planning for that, years in advance the facility starts, planning for shots anywhere between six, months and two years out she has, probably on the order of 50 people that, actively work every day on the machine, the center has about 300 physicists, there additional managers support staff, makes a large group of people,to get a shot,a shot director is a communications, focal point for all the activities, throughout the shot cycle their job is,to inform people of what the shot plan,of the day is and then if any changes, occur and to get groups together to,manage those changes so that we can get,a shot and again every experiment is,very different but it still takes the, same amount of coordination to get the, shot off depending on what they're,trying to get out of the experiment, depends on what team comes together on,that day so it can get very complicated, and that's what makes it exciting to you, know that you're working with different, people and different experiments every, day, the energy storage section is full of,oil which is processed by the system, behind me,the energy storage system contains all,of the marks generators which actually, store all of the energy that gets, charged up when the machines about ready,to fire and that pushes all the energy, into the post forming section which is,full water and when a laser trigger, system fires it dumps all of that stored, energy you know small compressed amount,of time into the center section we have, about 400 and some thousand gallons of,water of the ionized water that's,actually pumped through this system that, goes through the storage tanks that are, south of the facility it's about 600,000,gallons of oil that actually gets, processed and after every shot and it,goes out to storage tanks for the team, can then go down and inspect the energy, storage system I worked on the market, generators those are the big ma

Why The World Relies On ASML For Machines That Print Chips

Why The World Relies On ASML For Machines That Print Chips

At the center of this big factory in the Netherlands, in the midst of a months-long assembly process, there's a revolutionary machine that the, whole world has come to rely on.,You can see an EUV machine right behind me.,The size of a city bus, but working with atomic level precision, these EUV lithography machines are the most expensive step in making every advanced, microchip that powers the modern digital age: data centers, cars and every single iPhone.,We are the only provider on the planet of this critical technology.,These machines are the only way to print miniscule designs on these chips. They cost up to $200 million. And they're only made by a single company:,Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography, or ASML.,Today, ASML has a monopoly on the fabrication of EUV lithography machines, the most advanced type of lithography equipment that's needed to make every, single advanced processor chip that we use today. And this company is one of the most extraordinary organizations in the world. The machines that, they produce, each one of them is among the most complicated devices ever made.,In the midst of a chip shortage that's caused backorders of everything from PS5s to Teslas, the need for ASML has never been higher. Its stock has, skyrocketed since 2018. While it's three main customers, chipmakers TSMC, Intel and Samsung vie to be front-of-line for ASML's next breakthrough, technology. The price tag for this next machine, which promises to push the boundaries of known physics, is more than $300 million.,It's so expensive that most companies cannot afford it.,While the chip was rage on, we wanted to find out what's really going on inside the quiet company making the machines that print them all.,This is the optical part of the machine that makes EUV possible.,We got a rare tour inside ASML's cleanrooms in California and the Netherlands to see how these machines use precision lasers, exploding, molten tin, and the smoothest surface in the world to bring our digital age to life.,ASML's crucial role on the chipmaking stage has brought it wild success over the past few years, making it even more valuable today than Intel, one,of the biggest chipmakers it supplies.,It's double digit growth every year. We're not a startup. No, we have now 32,000 people.,Peter Wennink has been CEO since 2013. But he joined ASML back in 1999, just 15 years after its humble beginnings. It started as a subsidiary of,Dutch electronics giant Philips in 1984, conducting research out of a leaky shed next to a Philips office building in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.,They were in financial dire straits, so we had no money. We were poor. And because the problems Philips had were so big, nobody looked at this little, outfit out there that was trying to do something crazy, so they neglected us.,Still, in its first year, the company successfully launched a first-of-its-kind machine that used precise rays of light to print tiny, designs on silicon to make microchips, a technology known

Brand and Proposition

Brand and Proposition

hello I'm Matthew leech I'm really, excited to be starting our series of,talks with brand and proposition, over the years I've heard a lot of,people coming to me with marketing, problems and have to say the vast, majority of them have been proposition, problems if you can provide the, proposition right you'll probably find, that everything you do works on the, other hand it's just stuck with a,branded proposition that isn't quite, right,so a starting point the court from the, most successful e-commerce gave all time,Jeff Bezos there are two kind of,companies those that work to change, charge more and those that work to,charge less both these strategies will,be fine but clearly you can do both at,once so it's worth just thinking which, take the company you want to be in the,e-commerce is an awful lot easier to be,this type of company that has a strong, value proposition particularly as a,marketer I guess while we're on the, subject of Amazon the are the elephant,is the room if you're lucky enough to be,working a market that Amazon hasn't,entered yet a warning for you they are, coming for the rest of us think it,probably came for in behalf of the,e-commerce transactions the most of your, customers will have a payment method set,up,Anderson being mean well be able to get,an Amazon delivery within two hours and,the placing on Hanson is very good so,you you've really got to be very clear, that your proposition is dramatically, better than Amazon or so hopefully, details well as a couple of approaches, the front approaches product innovation,so for example one of our customers, that's freshly roasted coffee just a few, days before dispatch the coffee is grown, typically just a few hours before it's,sent so the result was a really fresh, taste again that's something that,Madison just can't do you know I'm an,example would be some running shoes a,lot of the store selling running shoes, will video you running analyze your, running style and then helps you choose, exactly the way to shoot again that's,the river Amazon can do you've also got, ordering innovation so one of our, customers is parsley bots who sell food,to seniors and the seniors really, appreciate being able to phone up and, speak to someone to place the order you,can also order by mailing in a check, again you said maccann meal and a check,Tour de France I suppose the most, obvious way of beating Amazon which is,what most people do is to have, really I think the days of selling, somebody else's online missus next, concept as richness versus reach no it's,possible to have a very rich experience, that example that might be going into a,boot store where you can look through, all the books you can feel them you can, read them and most people sort you can, probably even get coffee or you've got, this approach with a lot of reach but, less rich yes such as going down Amazon, have got millions so much bigger range, than you with having a local bookstore, that's much less but it's not so again, you don't think where you are on this on,this conti

Media Planning

Media Planning

hello I'm a Jew teach welcome to media, planet so in our previous talks your, hoons the perfect advertising creative,no we need to get your message over, there and start spreading it like a,patient's ear so before we go into the, depths of media let's just think bigger, picture what is the point of advertising,I'm broadly this is divided into two, things brand advertising which is a very, easy awareness and this is called above, the line and then a response advertising, which is called below the line I guess, historically you know people may be a,bit snobbish about bullying and as I,guess you can tell by the time but, originally above the line means, something that an ad agency got, commissioned for so you know classic, example would be I guess Kotick or,coca-cola advertising is all brand, advertising it's about building, awareness and actually call the core I'm,gonna do anyone to take response and, they want you to go into a store or a,restaurant and buy coke we haven't had,an e-commerce generally what we wanting,is a response in commerce so it's very, important thing to bear in mind, eight weeks so this takes us to the, first room all the time think must, always be measured then drop the less, effective adverts and do more which, brings us to questions at home and do,the John Wanamaker quote how my,advertising doesn't work from this I,don't know which half so let's see how, response measurement again a really, common way as the kerbin what we're,doing is that we call to code for money, off again all of the e-commerce,platforms will support this it's,extremely important that you,a lot of different courts every recently,us we can take company who'd used a,single promotional code for every one of,their campaigns, miss Phinney slightly more older fashion, button in the back you know back ten, years ago he would have multiple phone, numbers - I think we had more than it,more than 13 12 three numbers at one, point so we were using different numbers,on different adverts and different, publications, okay so of course for online as against,Italy cooking's for attribution is an,extremely complex subject so we're,actually the cover that separately in,order to talk so I'll just leave that, for now econometrics so a second, dimension X is often used for TV but if,they're giving you a sort of a building,a statistical model of endogenous, factors in other words for some things, that you're doing an exile Janus factors, external facts the season we do all this, together and it's very complex thing, which normal takes quite a few months to,put together so maybe the good companies, tend to do I mean a much simpler thing,is reaching a lot left get in a market, like the UK a small market like the UK,where most media is national,we use this very much been a market like, the US when your tends to be marketing, more at the state level obviously, bleaching a lot in California have you, seen in California okay so these are, just some of the metrics that we use for, response measurement cost per response,CPR sometime

Launch by CTRL-labs: Controlling a Machine with Your Intentions

greetings uh make sure I'm on my slide, here thanks for the introduction I am,Thomas Burton I'm the CEO of control, labs I lead a merry band of neuro, scientists and engineers in New York who,are building what we believe is the, world's first non-invasive always, available and always on neural interface, technology and we started the company, because of a really simple problem that, there is a yawning gap between human, input and human output you have a,phenomenal ability to take in,information all day long at all times, via your vision via your audition via, your hearing very appropriate ception, you have an amazing ability to process, that information what you lack is,sufficient output you output through, your muscles and that is slow and,error-prone we want to close that gap,and we want to do it because of this the,new computing platforms that are upon us,now these pervasive computers like an,Apple watch where you know my fingers, didn't get smaller when it showed up or,new kinds of robotics that have high, degrees of freedom but our bodies, weren't really meant to control directly, and maybe the most exciting of all are, these new immersive platforms in AR and,VR in which there aren't natural means,of interaction other than movement but, what we believe with the neural, interface you can kind of explore new, kinds of interactions and exploit new, powers you didn't know you had I believe, that the devices that we've used over, the last decade or so mock us and they, limit us when I try to go do something, simultaneously adjust the temperature on,the wall or play in VR and have an,interaction that makes some sense, virtually and I love this picture, because it captures what I think is,probably the most frustrating thing for,me and being doing something as joyful,as driving and easy as driving in,conflating that with what it's like to,actually just type on a touchscreen this, thing that causes us cognitive load I,have to engage the corrector of the auto, corrector I believe when the iPhone came, out and many of the technologies over, the last twenty years they've caused us,to regress as a species we are not at,all, exploiting our real capacities so we,think the question of control apps is,not how do we make our devices more, capable it's how do we ourselves become, more capable, neural interfaces are the root solution,to this problem neural interfaces, translate the activity of your nervous, system to make you more powerful than, all those devices we created a specific, technology we call intention capture, that allows us to solve the human opiate, problem and close the gap between human, input and human output so I'm giving you,our point of view about how you work in,the world today you have a brain, everyone here does your brain actually, continues down it's not just what's up,in your head,it's that full continuous brain that, goes down at your spinal cord your, spinal cord is sort of the USB port of,the brain you generate command signals, that then turn muscles on and off that's,what your b
