How NATIONAL LOGISTICS POLICY will be a GAME CHANGER for Indian Economy? : Business case study
prime minister Narendra Modi has, unveiled the government's National,Logistics policy 2022. National logistic, policy is,a logistics, foreign,on 17th of September 2022 the prime, minister of India made the Grand, announcement of the national Logistics, policy and the unified Logistics, interface and just like UPI,revolutionized the payment industry of,India this policy is expected to,revolutionize the entire Logistics, industry of India including road rail, waterways and even air Logistics and, more importantly in this extremely, competitive International Market it is,expected to evolve India into a fierce, computer not just in Asia but all across, the world but as usual while most media, houses have copy pasted the prime, minister's announcement of the NLP very, few of them have actually had to explain, how exactly will it transform the, logistics industry of India so in this, case study let's try to understand what, are the current major hurdles in the,Indian Logistics industry that's pulling,India behind how will this system of,national Logistics policy and ulip, transform the logistics industry of,India what are the hurdles that can turn, the same policy into a disaster and most, importantly as students of business what, are the study material to help you, understand the evolving landscape of the, logistics industry of India this video,is brought to you by multiple but more,on this at the end of the video,to understand the national logic,'s first day to understand the problems, associated with the logistics industry,of India and unfortunately the reality,is that in spite of it being a critical, pillar of our economy it's been a,nightmare for Indian businesses now if,you look at the cost of transporting one, metric ton of goods in India it costs 18,rupees per metric ton per kilometer by,air by road is 3.6 rupees and rail is by,far the most economic mode of Transport, with just 1.6 rupees per metric ton per, kilometer so by the look of it obviously,a large chunk of goods must be shipped,by real right well guess what around 71,percent of the goods in India are, shipped by Road and only 17.5 percent of,them are shipped by rail similarly only,a small segment of trade is done through, waterways the question is why well, that's because we don't have enough, rails or trains to cater to the demand,of the quantity of goods being, transported in India secondly both, passenger and good strain in India run,on the same track with the passenger, trains being given more preference over, the good Stream So this results in,delays thirdly when you need to ship, something by rail you need to opt for a,multi-modal transport for Last Mile and, first mile connect rating as in you will, have to ship your product from the, factory to the Train by truck then, unload and load it get it shipped to a,particular location and then have, another truck pick it up and then drop,it to your Warehouse so when I spoke to,the team of udon which is a B2B trading, platform they pointed out that India, currently lacks the infrast

How Amazon's Super-Complex Shipping System Works
How Amazon's Super-Complex Shipping System Works
This video was made possible by Hover.,Professionalize your web presence with a custom
domain and email address for 10% off at hover.com/Wendover.,About 13 million times per day, someone clicks
the order button on amazon.com.,Some days later, all, or at least almost all,
of those 13 million orders arrive at their, destination.,But what happens in between?,How does Amazon get a package to you?,Well, it depends… a lot.,In fact, Amazon’s fulfillment system, their
shipping system, is more complicated and convoluted, than that of almost any logistics company.,It’s far more complicated than that of UPS,
or FedEx, or DHL, or any other major delivery, company.,In a counterintuitive way, this complicated
and convoluted fulfillment system is a crucial, component of the secret sauce that’s driving
Amazon’s success.,They’re striving to make the consumer experience
simple through behind-the-scenes complexity.,So, back to the question: how does an Amazon
package get to you, and the answer, it depends.,It depends first on who’s fulfilling the
package—Amazon or the seller.,About one fourth of sales in the US are fulfilled
directly by the seller, as most products on,Amazon are listed there by a third-party,
which can send packages directly through UPS,,FedEx, the postal service, or another consumer
delivery company if they choose.,Amazon has nothing to do with the fulfillment
of those orders, and the process looks largely, the same as with any other e-commerce company.,What’s different is how the other three
quarters of Amazon packages in the US get,to you—the ones that are fulfilled directly
by Amazon.,The path that these take depends first on
how big the package is.,You see, Amazon’s fulfillment centers are
more-or-less split into three categories:,small sortable, large sortable, and large
non-sortable.,That first category, small sortable, represents
the bread and butter of Amazon’s business.,These are items that are less than 12 by 16
by 6 inches or 30 by 40 by 15 centimeters,in size, and about 25 pounds or 11 kilograms
in weight.,The next category, large sortable, is basically
anything larger than this up to a weight of,about 60 pounds or 27 kilograms.,Now, the reason for the split between large
and small is because the fulfillment operations,of smaller items is much easier to automate—they
can fit on conveyor belts and automated robots, and other tools that lower the company's reliance
on humans.,For example, Amazon uses a robot called the
Kiva which fundamentally changed the way the,job of the company’s pickers, the people
who find and grab an item out of storage,,worked.,Previously, pickers would walk some 10 to
12 miles or 16 to 19 kilometers a day through, cavernous rows of shelves.,Now, at least in their most advanced fulfillment
centers, a robot picks up an entire mobile, shelf, on which a required product is located,
and transports it to the picker, who picks,it.,Essentially, rather than the picker going
to the shelf, the shelf goes to the picker.,With these
