How to Create Image Sitemaps for Google

Hello and welcome, in this video session we’re going to learn how to create image sitemaps for Google. Brought to you by www dot rankya ,dot com dot au Now I’ve got Firefox open, I will pass couple of URLs for you to check out. And read bit more in depth information about ,image sitemaps and sitemaps in general ok So let’s say I’ve got a website that I want to create image sitemaps for, ,and obviously I will have images on it, as you can see on the screen here. We got one image here and we got another, and we’ve got some other ,ones, and we’ve got some other ones on this particular page right So, let’s open up our code here, see, what you saw before on that ,screen was, if we are talking about image sitemaps, is, this URL set here, so this is an xml file particularly using namespace as specified by ,schema for sitemap images. So what its saying is, it’s an xml file using encoding UTF8, Unicode8, ,and then the information that we have, is this particular URL set here. Ok, so what that’s saying is, what that’s saying is the URL is located at ,this location, I’ve got an image as such with these details, and I’ve got another image with these details and so on, so all the images on that ,particular URL which is located here will have these image details ok so that’s what this is saying here. So it’s as simple as that as to let’s ,say you’ve got ten pages, therefore you simply create ten different URL sets with the image information that you have on your web pages ok ,so its very very simple And if we look at the other URL set here, it would be up to here, so we got another URL set here, ,what it is saying is, there is another URL it is located here and on that particular URL, I got this image with these details and I’ve got another ,image with these details ok so we’ll look at the details in the minute but what I want you to understand the simplicity of it so you can ,basically create your sitemaps simply you know replace the details that you see on the screen with the template I’m going to make ,available for you Now we got couple more other things that you can incorporate, ,first let’s say you got a URL here with this particular image details right therefore you simply would replace the details replace it with your ,own image details given full path of your URL and the title is the title of the image and caption is the alt tag description of the image ok so that is ,what that is saying there ok And we also got geo location now what that means is its very important that we ,understand that geo location in this sense doesn’t mean the keywords that you want to target right Geo location in this sense means regarding the ,image that you are detailing in this sense in this xml file ok that’s that is for,Therefore you can perhaps you know let’s say the image was taken in Melbourne then I would say Melbourne Australia ok, so it’s very basic as ,to ok the image was taken in Melbourne or is a scene from Melbourne but I’m talking about Melbourne Australia in t

all right folks this screencast will,help explain why the image sitemap app,will allow you to do some things that,you haven't been able to do before with,Shopify so the first thing that happens,is we ingest your entire product catalog,and we find every image for every,product then we compile a new and more,comprehensive image sitemap and,immediately submitted to Google on your,behalf,from there we also monitor any changes,to your catalog and submit updates to,Google in real-time for you so for the,first time you'll be able to see deep,data associated with your indexed images,you can see here that we've submitted,over 600 products with over 3,000 images,and about 65% of our images have been,indexed so we can use this percentage as,a baseline for future image SEO,improvements perhaps something simple,like including more descriptive language,and our file names would be a good start,you can also see that we have a healthy,site map with no warnings or errors and,then it took about 30 seconds to process,the last catalog change and resubmit a,fresh image sitemap to Google with all,the latest products txt removals,omissions image updates captions and so,on three other unique things that we,show are the average image Heights of,our indexed images a file similarity,correlation and what we call blackouts,or products that seem to have no indexed,images at all here we see that the,average height of our indexed images is,about 1600 pixels so this can be a,really good indicator that our high,quality images are being indexed or,maybe we see a very low number here like,600 pixels and that might show that,we're using a JavaScript image gallery,that's preventing proper indexing and,next we can see the average correlations,between file names and either product,titles or product handles a high,correlation here is a huge predictor of,successful indexing with Google and you,can see here that we have a very very,low correlation which likely means that,all of our images should be re uploaded,with more descriptive file names that,closely match,the product title and the product handle,and here we can see a list of all the,products for which there seemed to be no,indexed images at all this can be,heavily influenced by the file,similarity correlations that we just,spoke about and furthermore this could,be something simple like maybe we forgot,to upload images or perhaps some of the,images are of a low quality we picked,them from the wrong folder,maybe the images are very hard for,Google to distinguish there could be a,lot of reasons here but this is the,first step in starting to troubleshoot,some of the gaps in our catalog indexing,next let's look at some of the specifics,of how our new comprehensive image,sitemap differs from the one that,Shopify provides first we see the,Shopify image sitemap so if we look at a,single product here we have the a Dario,long sleeve shirt and we can see maybe,about 10-15 lines of XML it specifies a,single image it has a small caption that,coul

XML Sitemaps for Google - How to Create XML Sitemap

xml sitemaps for google,and search engine optimization,in this video session i'm going to,simplify what xml sitemaps are all about,and how you can generate them,and also submit it to google,now first of all let's understand this,fact about xml sitemaps,they are basically,chunks of code,that you can place within a file,and that file has to have an extension,called,dot xml,so,all it is,is a set of urls,as we can see here it says,url set,and then,the end of url set is here,now,you don't have to create your xml,sitemaps,manually like this,just understand what it is,basically it's an xml file type,with set of urls,that is the map of your website,and,as we can see here,that what i've highlighted is the url,within that we can provide the location,information,last modified,we can if we want,add change frequency,as well as priority,now do we need these two,we don't if we don't want okay,so,basically,at its core,you just need,to tell,the map of your site,using url tags,it has to have the location,or else it wouldn't make sense,and when it was last modified,that's the minimum now,but surely a website will have many,different pages,as in many different urls,so then all you need to do is make sure,the map of all the urls are within your,site map,so then let's imagine that's page 2,and location of page 3,whatever the url is,let's imagine we have product a as an,example,product,a,dot php,it doesn't matter it's just the,location of the url,now the priority setting is rather,confusing for most people because,there's a lot of so-called seo experts,out there trying to confuse you,ideally whether you use the priority,settings or not,search engine optimization and google,rankings work on different,levels,okay but nonetheless you have that,option here,now what this priority setting is all,about is,you can if you want,set the priority as to say you know what,if it is let's say priority five,for this two example,for this priority seven and for this,priority eight,higher the priority up to,one obviously,is better,as in you're what you're saying is,you know what that url is more important,than the others so therefore when you're,coming to visit my website to see the,the urls and when it was updated,consider that a little bit more,important okay so that's what this is,all about,now the thing is,there are many different,ways that you can create sitemaps,and google actually has guidelines if,you operate a website the xml sitemap,for main web pages,you can use xml sitemaps for that but,there is also,you can create video sitemap if you want,you can create,new sitemap if you want,and,as far as google is concerned you need,certain information according to its,guidelines okay so i'll show you some,samples before we move on,let's,okay let's take a look at this first,here,as we can see google is saying,we take different,sitemap formats we're looking at xml,here,but you can have rss or even text,also the guidelines is that,50 megabytes,and up to 50 000 urls 15 megabytes,uncompressed
