hi it's elder and today I'm going to,teach you how to prepare images to use,on your website when it comes to images,there are a few things we should take,into consideration there is the image,file type image file name aspect ratio,resolution and image size so let's start,this image file type I recommend to only,use jpg and PNG files and sometimes you,can use gifs or gifs,if you require some kind of animation on,your website and if you know how you can,also use vector based images like SVG's,for things like icons or logos as for,color profile try to use as RGB because,it will make sure that your images look,great on web and mobile devices,next is file name and I already talked,about naming the files for images in my,SEO optimization video if you haven't,already go watch this but in short I am,recommending to name your files short,and descriptive and in addition to that,I recommend to only use the small,letters so don't use capital letters and,avoid using any symbols or signs like,question marks and others,then we have the image aspect ratio so,what I recommend to do here is be,consistent so select three or four,aspect ratios for your website for,example we can use the square images so,one by one then we have one for the wide,images so 16 by 9 or 4 by 3 or 3 by 2,and then we can select one for portrait,images so something like 3 by 4 or 2 by,3 will be fine make sure that you crop,all of your images into these aspect,ratios and it will be helpful especially,if you're using Web Design apps like,blogs which do not automatically crop,your images so if you're building the,gallery in blocks it will be very useful,to you if you have the images this,similar or consistent aspect ratios your,website will look more clean and your,images will not be distorted,next is image resolution and I recommend,to use the maximum width of 2500 pixels,for all of our images on our website and,of course 2500 pixels is not small and,for images which will not be shown more,than the width of your website which can,be something like 1200 pixels or 1400,pixels you won't even need 2500 pixels,wide images so be smart about it so for,the fullscreen banners or like,fullscreen edge-to-edge headers use 2500,pixels wide images and for images which,will be only shown inside your canvas,inside inside your website for example,your profile images or maybe some,gallery use images this is the maximum,wave or like 1500 pixels,finally we have the image file size and,it is very important to find the perfect,balance between the quality and the size,of our images so my recommendation is to,make all of your images to be under 500,kilobytes and if possible much less so,let me show you a couple of examples of,how I am optimizing the images for my,websites so here I have the simple,website project here and I want to use,two images one image of myself next to,the text here and one full screen image,banner and I'm using blocks up here but,everything I show will apply to any web,design platform for Squar

How To Use Webp Images in WordPress with the EWWW Image Optimizer Plugin

hey everyone this is tony teaches tech,i'm tony and in this video i'm going to,show you how to convert your images for,your wordpress website,to webp now we're going to be using a,plugin called the eww,image optimizer to do this and i,probably don't have to say this because,you already know,how important it is to serve webp images,from your wordpress website it is,um webp itself is a compression,algorithm developed by google,that does a fantastic job of compressing,images way better than,png's and all the other image formats,out there,and and basically the reason you want to,do that is because,the amount of data being transferred,from your server to your client will be,reduced even further,and that equates to quicker loading,pages which is good for,everybody so if that's something you,want to learn how to do let's get on,into the tutorial here,okay so we're going to be working with,my serial blog here it's called serial,guru,and the first thing i want to show you,is if in google chrome you can go to,view developer developer tools,and if you're in the network tab and you,have the assets filtered by,image if we refresh the page here you,can see that,these images are being served as png,images right now and just to prove that,we're looking at the,the same thing this is that image right,there,and it's a png and if we add up all the,sizes of all these images,we're looking at 3.7 megabytes just in,images being sent from the server to the,client so,that's a big chunk let's see if we can,get that down reduce that by compressing,our images,the other thing i wanted to show you,before we actually start,is my page speed insight score here,which is a 65 for serial guru just the,home page,and if we go down here you'll see that,the biggest and by far,the biggest opportunity for time savings,is to serve your images,in next-gen format which one of those,next-gen formats is webp which,is the the one that's developed by,google the compression algorithm that's,developed by google for images,so let's see if we can get,a better score than 65 and let's see if,we can transfer,less than 3.7 megabytes in images,all right so on your wordpress website,go into your,admin dashboard and in the plugins,section,if you don't already have it install the,eww,image optimizer i already have it,installed so when you're done with that,we can come in here and click on,settings,and the first thing you're going to want,is well first let me show you if you go,to the webp,tab here it says that webp conversion,requires an api key or,subscription the subscription is like,five dollars,ten dollars per month something like,that they take care of optimizing all,the images for you kind of set it and,forget it,kind of thing but the api key um the,other option is to just buy some credits,to convert images,on an image by image basis and that,works out to be like,a fraction of a cent for each image or,something like that,so that's what we're going to do today,the the a la carte option so you need,that
