greetings and welcome to scam takedown,task force a channel dedicated to,finding scams online and taking them,down I'm your CEO Dan and today we're,gonna talk about gift cards looks like,so a scammer has a pretty simple mo they,want your money and they'll do anything,it takes to get it pretty simple so why,is it that they all want you to go to a,store and get a gift card or a prepaid,Visa card well it all comes down to,traceability you see when you make a,transaction at your bank the bank has a,record of it who it goes to and having,them create multiple accounts really,slows the scammers down and scammers,don't like being slowed down it also,allows the banks to communicate with one,another and adds breadcrumbs which allow,eventually the FTC or FBI or other,agencies to go and find these scammers,and take them down they also don't want,to be busted so what makes a gift card,better with a gift card all the scammer,has to do is get the code that's it once,they get that code they go online sell,it immediately and even though they're,taking a loss on the full value of the,gift card it's still 100% profit for the,scammer and unfortunately not too many,companies who are accepting these gift,cards are asking questions so while yes,it is slower that they have to actually,sell the gift card and not cold hard,cash it allows them to keep doing what,they do with less of a chance of getting,busted now many of you might be thinking,well that's stupid who would fall for,that,well people fall for it every day it's,because the scammers use impeccable,deplorable tactics first they'll start,by casting a wide net once they reach,their targets through emails or phone,calls the people who respond are,typically the ones who are susceptible,to being scammed and those people are,the older generations or people who,aren't write of mind a vulnerable,population that isn't to say that the,younger generation isn't falling for it,but they're less susceptible than your,grandma,they use bully tactics whittling away at,their targets in some cases they'll use,threats where they say they'll call the,FBI or they'll call the ATC or the,police and have them or one of their,family members arrested or they might,just continually call over and over and,over until finally they cave I think,it's important that we don't blame the,victims in these situations,it always looks very cut and dry from,our perspective but try to imagine you,being drunk and receiving a phone call,telling you that you might go to prison,if you don't do something in that state,of mind that's more or less what they're,looking for someone who isn't already,all there that kind of fear is what they,instill into their victims they're cruel,and unrelenting and they won't stop,until they're either frustrated or they,get what they want and the people who do,cave they'll take them for everything,they got,so what are we able to do about it well,unfortunately the sad truth is that,there's not a whole lot we can do,individually oth

Accounting for Gift Cards

the accounting for gift cards is,somewhat unique we've got a couple of,issues the first being that at,point-of-sale when someone actually buys,the gift card a company cannot recognize,revenue so if someone walks into a store,and pays $200 cash for a gift card the,company can't say oh we have two hundred,dollars of revenue and the reason is,that that person has not redeemed the,gift card yet at some point that so they,give it to a family member and then that,person comes in a month later and says,hey I won sup of that merchandise and,then the store is obligated to give that,merchandise so when this store initially,receives the $200 cash for the gift card,they're actually going to recognize a,liability so they're gonna debit cash,and they're gonna credit a liability to,show that they have an obligation at,some point in the future to provide,goods or services to the person holding,the gift card now what if the person,doesn't redeem all of the gift cards,what if is so we've got a two hundred,dollar gift card but what if they only,redeem a hundred and seventy dollars,worth of that they don't spend the,entire 200 what happens to that,remaining thirty dollars well there's a,couple of issues number one some,companies will have an expiration date,on the gift card and it'll just say okay,look we've got one year expiration so if,at the end of one year if you haven't,spent the full two hundred dollars and,you've instead just spent a hundred and,seventy well you just lose that thirty,the gift card is done and the company,would just recognize this thirty dollars,as revenue so the company would just,basically pocket the money and not have,to provide any goods or services for it,okay so that's that this is called,breakage by the way breakage is when,there is a failure to redeem part of the,gift card okay and companies go to great,lengths to try and estimate what will be,their breakage rates and so forth so,what about certain states you might have,heard of a sheet meant for what about if,the state is the state that has a sheet,mint laws as sheepmen laws are basically,they relate to unclaimed property so,unclaimed property would be that this,would be a case where if the purse,paid $200 for the gift card and they,didn't use $30 this would be a case of,unclaimed property now some states will,have these two sheepmen laws would say,look if you don't if you don't spend,that $30 that is sheets to this state,what that means when we say is sheets it,just means that that $30 instead of the,company just saying oh well that person,never spent the $30 I guess we don't,have to do anything the company actually,has to pay that $30 to the state,government so this depends on a,state-by-state basis are their,achievement laws so if there are no,achievement laws then the company just,says okay well I guess they never spent,the $30 hey great but if there are,sheepmen laws that money can go to the,state government so you see that this,get a little complicated so let's go,through an exa

Clever Gift Card Slider Cards - 25 Cards!

hello i'm glad you're here this is,jennifer so every year i give a lot of,gift cards during the holiday season and,i like to make cards that present the,gift card in a fun way just to make it a,little more special,so today i'm showing you how i made 25,cards today all that contain a gift card,that slides up to display when the,person opens it,now i'll talk a little bit about why i'm,making so many of these cards but i,wanted to show you this technique,because it's something that you can do,with the supplies that you have and add,into any card i will first show you how,i did all of this stamping and then,we'll assemble the cards and do the gift,card feature,as with any interactive card i think,it's best to see the completed card in,action first when you open it the inside,slides up to reveal the gift card,okay for the stamping on this card i'm,using the kitchen sink stamps tear drop,ornaments now this set and the other two,have been in my to use pile for over a,year now i wanted to use it last year,didn't get a chance finally using it now,and boy was it fun to use,kitchen sink stamps is known for their,realistic layering sets and they are,amazing if you've never looked at their,other products i encourage you to do so,i'll link to a video on the top right,where i've used their products in the,past,the stamping you get looks so realistic,now this is the other set i'm using,these christmas lights this is what i,really wanted to use they look so real,when you stamp them and they're very,easy to line up so i'll be using both of,these sets,now there's another i thought i was,going to use but decided not to but it's,one that would work well with the other,two and this is the ornaments and stars,set it's a small set so the price point,is great and you have ornaments and,stars that look very realistic when you,stamp layer them,along with this i'll be using one of my,favorite die sets of the year and this,is the spellbinders fluted rectangle die,set,so there are solid rectangle dies and,then dies that create a fun little,finished pattern for a frame so you can,use these to create frames or rectangles,with the pattern on the inside or,outside,many ways you can use them and i'm going,to show you creative way also in this,video,and they do have circle squares and i,believe ovals available in the same,design but i'm sticking with the,rectangles today,now the first thing i did was i stamped,some of the rectangles that i cut with,that last die set very quickly with the,solid most images from the two stamp,sets i showed you earlier one has the,pine and one has the christmas lights,this is just me kind of planning out how,i want my cards to be stamped i like to,do this you'll notice my stamping is not,great it's all about just doing a quick,guide to follow as i stamp i did three,different versions and i chose to do the,one on the left with the small rectangle,so these rectangles will be stamped and,on the front of our card so off screen i,die cut about 25 of the wh

hello everyone it's connie stewart with,simplysimplestamping.com,thank you guys so much for joining me,for today's tuesday tip now we have been,talking during the month of may 2022,about some fun ways that you can give,the gift of a gift card or cash it's,that time of year we've got mother's day,and father's day and graduation and,weddings this is going to be a fantastic,video a great way that you can create a,pocket card again just a fun different,idea for giving that gift let me show,you what a pocket card is,so there is our pocket you see that just,pulls right out and inside we've got a,little place you can put some cash you,could put a gift card either one you can,actually leave that off completely and,just have a great card by the way that's,going to fit into our medium sized a2,envelope so you can mail that project,too,and i even have a free diagram for you,to go along with it so you'll have no,problems creating this project very,quickly let's get started with our,pocket cards today,so we're going to create the father's,day card today but remember this card,can be anything you need it to be you're,just going to change that focal image,let me pull in the supplies i need so,you know what you need to create the,card so you're going to pick your,favorite designer series paper i'm going,to use hey sports fan and this is a,great way to use up if you've got some,half sheets of designer series paper,because this started out as a six by,twelve and what i did is i have one,piece here that is cut six inches by,nine and a quarter and then i have,another piece that's two inches by six,inches so i just cut part of that off,not a big deal and that's going to be,used to hold the pocket now let's talk,about that pocket we're going to need,two pieces of cardstock i'm going to use,some soft succulent although,evening evergreen would look great here,too all right this is a little bit,different measurement four and an eighth,by five and three eighths so it's a,little bit smaller than a quarter sheet,that's so it can fit inside the pocket,and then i have a piece of very vanilla,three and three quarters by five that's,what's gonna go on there now for our,focal image on the front of course,you're gonna use whatever works for you,and whatever works for your stamp set,i've got some soft suede,two and three quarters by three i have,some very vanilla two and a half by two,and three quarters to go on right there,and then we're also going to use some,linen thread this is great for masculine,cards and hey stick around i've got a,really great masculine uh tip for you as,well and the stamp set of the day is,wildlife wonder uh guys can i just tell,you a quick thing about this stamp set,when i saw it i wasn't crazy about it,until a friend of mine sent me a card,and once you stamp these images it's,gorgeous again great for masculine cards,and i love this to a great guy,and for all the great things you do i,thought it was perfect for father's day,all right so let's get started
