The purpose of an information report is
to present, factual information on a given subject.
There's a particular structure we need,to follow, and certain language features
we need to use when writing one.,We'll start by looking at the structure.
By following the correct structure of an,information report,
we make it easy for the reader to,understand the information we're
presenting.,This is the basic structure of an
information report:,title, introduction, body paragraphs,
and conclusion. Let's start with the, introduction.,The introduction gives an overview of
what the reader can expect to learn from, reading the report.
It includes a brief outline of the, subtopics within the report.
Here's an information report on sea turtles.,Let's take a closer look at the
introduction.,We can see from the title and the
introduction that this report will focus,on threats to sea turtles.,Further on in the introduction, it gives
a brief outline of the threats the, report will include.,An introduction should also include a
hook. That is,,something to catch the reader's
attention. This could be an interesting, fact, statistic, or even a question.,Let's go back to the 'threats to sea
turtles' introduction,The author has used this alarming
statistic to hook the reader.,After the introduction come the body
paragraphs.,Each body paragraph focuses on its own
subtopic.,Let's say we were writing an information
report on rainforests.,We might decide to give information
about the animals that live in,rainforests, the plants, and the different layers of a rainforest.,Each of these subtopics would need its,own paragraph in the body of our report.
Let's take a closer look at what a body, paragraph is.
Body paragraphs often have subheadings.,Subheadings make it easy for the reader
to navigate the report, and find information quickly. Each body
paragraph,needs a topic sentence. A topic sentence
is a sentence that tells the main idea,of the paragraph.,The rest of the paragraph provides more
details and examples, all focused on the, subtopic.
Let's take a closer look at one of these, body paragraphs:
body paragraph 3: Layers.,Here is the subheading: 'Layers of a
Rainforest'.,Here is the topic sentence: 'Rainforests
have four main layers.',Just like the subheading, this signals to
the reader what the paragraph is about.,The rest of the paragraph provides
details and examples,,all focused on the subtopic: layers of a
rainforest.,Information reports can have many body
paragraphs.,They should be ordered logically. Which
subtopic does it make sense to place, first? Last? Perhaps some of the subtopics make, sense to be placed together.
After the body paragraphs comes the, conclusion.,The conclusion should briefly summarise
what the reader has learned.,No new information should be introduced. Let's take another look at the report,'Threats to Sea Turtles',
specifically the conclusion paragraph.,No new information has been introduced
here, and we can see that it wraps up the, main idea of the report
Let's move on to the first section of Easy Reports
PRIMAVERA P6 MADE EASY! Reports in P6
PRIMAVERA P6 MADE EASY! Reports in P6
step 20,is the reports so very the very last, step after we've done step 1 through 19,is to want to,run the reports we want to show tangible, evidence, that we have the information we need to,convey to,the end user so we want to verify all,the information, and make sure it's viewable we want to,put it in a,uh we course want to do print a print, preview make sure and,you know on the gantt chart views we're,one wide it's viewable, remember remember the reports are viewed,by different people and used by,different people so it's very important, they're put in the correct format so,let's go ahead and you know we verified, that, all the columns are shown correctly, let's see we got all the columns that we,have,we need for a baseline schedule some, people say let's go ahead and take out,the actual start and actual finish, because we don't need it in the baseline,i say maybe it's probably good to have,in there, but you know uh to make the reports a,little bit, more readable we can take those out,now that gives us more viewing on the, gantt chart view,so we'll go ahead and do file print, preview, and when we do the print and i'm going,to move the view window here, when we do the print preview, you will you'll see here that it has, everything laid out,in an early start format we probably, want to change,we want to make sure it's a landscape we,want to make sure we fit everything,to one wide so that everything we can,see on one page,it can be as many pages tall but we,don't want it more than be,than to be one wide because it makes it,very difficult to read, tabloid which is 11 by 17 that's typical, for the schedules we produce,um you know we can slim off the the, margins of course,um as close as possible the headers we,can put text in,you know automatically you know we have,uh,uh you know the project name comes, you know by default but we can put, headers uh we put it in the, left middle and right hand side footers,we can put information here,we can put in here the legend we can, take out the legend,we can put dates we can put logos we can,do a lot of different things, and the options we want to go from, project start to project finish, but we also can do numerous different, things when we do the updates,we may want to go from the data date, going forward or whatever,so we'll go ahead and hit okay and now,we have one wide, and we have a couple tall you can see,you can go down and look at the,the other tall what i don't like is that,it cuts off there so what i'll do is,i'll say okay well the date is,you know this is december of 17.,i'll want to i'll go ahead and click on,um,this and i'll say instead of having uh,project finish being the last one i'll,put a custom date there, and i'll put you know like today's you, know i'll put it out there a little bit,and that way when we go down, you can actually see the names so that's,one way of doing it,okay so um and i'll go ahead and do it,maybe, maybe that's a little too far out so,maybe what we'll do is we'll go,back to our custom date will be like, kin

Jira Reports: Easy Reporting in Jira
Jira Reports: Easy Reporting in Jira
Hello everybody! This is Manuel from iDalko and
this is another podcast. Today we have as host, ,big Chris, well that's the way he calls himself.
Big Chris is gonna talk with us a little bit ,about easy reporting for non-technical/business
teams. Hi Chris! Hey, thanks for having me Manuel, ,nice to meet you. It's my pleasure.
So what is easy reporting, because ,I think I'm at the right address. I would be one
of those guys that is non-technical and would love ,some reporting with a push of a button or with
some simple ways to gather all the information and ,it looks like I'm at the right address for
the moment. Yeah sure! I mean I think we all ,have our non-technical days even some of the most
advanced of us don't feel particularly technical ,on a Monday morning so... and I think that's
the key I've been in the Atlassian space for ,5-6 years now and a big thing I've noticed is
that the first people to move into this space ,were super technical, right? Like a lot of the
first solution partners were helping people ,migrate from even more awkward more technical
solutions such as you know subversion and so the ,big move of people were power developers
making tools for other power developers ,and obviously Atlassian's come a long way
since then. People have made the most of its ,project management capabilities and so you
see it expanding more and more being used ,by marketing teams, HR teams, or just anyone
that wants kind of a bit of visibility, ,a bit of project management, and to run things
in Sprints or Kanban. So as that space has grown, ,I found that some of the biggest vendors are
a bit lagging there so we've been filling that ,niche gap at the moment. And I think there's
a real need to have a good idea of who the ,new end users are and what design principles you
need in order to make something good for them. ,How did you start with it and get a whole bunch
of users together and tortured them until they ,gave you the best ideas on how to build an easy
reporting tool? So thankfully, there was no need ,the wonder of the internet is that people really
enjoy complaining very publicly, so if you just ,look on our Twitter or the Atlassian community we
found so many people wishing that they could... ,the first iteration of the tool we made was just
color selector for pie charts for Jira. That was ,it. And one of the main complaints, I think it
had tens of thousands of votes was if people could ,just make their rag status pie chart actually be
red amber, and green because at the moment the ,colors are randomized and every time you show that
report to the manager you have to explain what it ,means and what the color means and what, sorry
why is my red green and why is my green purple ,or any other color. So we started off just with,
you know, a color picker for Jira pie charts, ,and to be honest, it was a proof of concept like
yeah the leanest startup we could make just to get ,rolling but it

How to Build Power BI Reports from Start to Finish
How to Build Power BI Reports from Start to Finish
in this video i'm going to teach you, step by step, how to build the power bi reports you,see behind me,you can download the files from the link,in the video description so you can have,a go yourself, now if the pace is too fast click on the,cog icon in the bottom right of the, video, and you can alter the speed settings and,of course you can pause, and rewind and watch as many times as,you like, okay let's get started, first i want to give you a very quick, overview of what power bi,is it's a business analytics tool for, visualizing, and sharing insights we can get data, from hundreds of sources using the same, power query tool that's available in,excel,we then model the data with the same, power pivot tool that's also, available in excel and from there we,create compelling, interactive reports and dashboards and, collaborate and share them with people, inside and outside of our organization,we can set them up to automatically, refresh so there's no further, maintenance required, now there are two main power bi tools we,use the free power bi desktop tool,to get data model it and create the, report,we then publish our reports to the, online power bi,service where we can collaborate and, share them with our audience, now the data i'll be working with is 12,months worth of budget, and forecast data and 6 months worth of,actual data for the it department of a,global company, and this is a modified data set from, obvious, the forecast budget and actual data is,stored in csv files, that have been exported from an,accounting system and they're saved on,my pc,you can see the files contain records by,date department, cost element country and the amount and, these, are my fact tables i also have an excel, file containing dimension tables, that contain further groupings for the, cost element country and,i.t departments each table is named and, these names will also be the names,of the tables when i import them into, power bi,now i'll be comparing performance, against budget,or plan if you prefer to call it that, and because these are costs,an adverse variance will be when actual,or forecasted costs, are higher than budget now for those, statisticians who might be thinking, that variance is the wrong term to use, here i just want to clarify that this is,a term accountants use,to refer to the difference between a,budgeted value and the actual value, okay i'll switch over to power bi and,we'll get started, power bi desktop is the free modeling, tool available for windows for authoring, your power bi reports it uses the same, power query and power pivot tools that,we have in excel,so if you're familiar with these tools, then you're off to a head start, here the power query tools are on the, home tab of the ribbon, and for those not familiar with power, query this is the get,and transform data tool built into both, excel and power bi,it enables you to get data from a huge, range of sources, and clean and transform it before, loading it to the powerpivot model, now my dimension tables are in an excel, file,so i'll grab t

Automatically generate reports with Matlab including any chart real easy
hey Brian here for quantum obstinate, just want to show you something really, cool,if you're into setting up automated, reports with something like MATLAB so I,want to show you a trick I've just found, now I've only started this process maybe,10 minutes ago talking to somebody, overseas that we all seem to admire and, love I was sort of um quiet when I said, that this system that I'm working on,called the ak-47 - treating internal, changes and that things and reports and,how I could do it so fast in let's say,two months well it's one of the reasons, using MATLAB but this is one of those, cool little features that I found called, this is using the it's called report the, report um they just deploy up here, report Explorer now this is all through,GUI within that lab okay so got this, tutorial I'm going to show you that it's,part of the demos of from from out of,box MATLAB 2014 eight alright so what,I'm doing is is I've got scripts ready,to go but I want to automate them you, know you know I mean I want to automate, those scripts so there's a little, tutorial here little component it's part,of the report Explorer I've shown before,in previous videos but this figure loop, component and that enables you to,basically automatically iterate through, various loops and it's very quick to,bang out like really fast as a little, tutorial here so let me just run it oh,and the trick here is,right here run it with this demo big, loop tutorial you just set edit big loop, tutorial okay, and now hopping into MATLAB now when I,run that command that will bring up this, report Explorer with this setup in my,report Explorer okay so here's all the, separate components I've shown before, the interesting ones this report figure, figures in report or I'm sorry the, figure loop what you just talked about,so we can do is you can set up a script, that will run like this okay I generate, all your figures that you want out of,the figure loop put into a handle and, then literally in two seconds it'll come, out all those figures and a nice easy, report let me show you what I mean so,this is very fast to set I've just been, doing it for a day and I'll press show, this in another video and the final of,what I'm looking at and how I'm gonna, proceed with all my reports for the, system with the embedded script but the, cool thing is here's the finger thick, loop figures script which is a MATLAB,script so it's gonna run it in the,Explorer and now let me just show you, what that script does and again this is,just a tutorial so basically it's gonna, generate these set of figures and then,it's gonna run all that here I'm just, loading in basically images I think I,don't know I haven't really identified, that but from there he'll basically, evidence of the vaina has a title page, chapter another chapter and then it's,gonna dump out all those figures okay so,watch when I run it which is this little, lightning bolt off she goes, off she goes blah blah blah here's all,the images boom okay ah I just gotta, load up that tutorial which or th

Quick and Easy Reports in Excel
Quick and Easy Reports in Excel
- Hi, I'm Justin from Maths Pathway.,When I first became a teacher,,I thought Excel would be a helpful thing,to teach my students, and it is.,What I didn't expect is how
much time it could save me,,particularly around report writing time.,I'm not sure if you've been a situation, where you've got to write a
report comment for each student.,And really what you're drawing upon mostly, with those comments is the sort of things, that you've noted down in your grade book,,like maybe you've already made some sort,of very high to very low judgement about, how their class participation has gone,or their homework.,And you need to write an
individual report comment, for each student.,And although you might
still wanna personalise,,Excel can actually do a whole lot,of the work for us and
give us a pretty good guess,at a starting comment, that we can then edit more quickly.,I'll show you how to get this done.,There's a few ingredients we'll need.,One is to get a bit more information, about each student and let Excel tell us.,So we'll just insert a couple of columns,so that we can work here.,What I wanna do,is I wanna use their first
name in the report comment.,I wanna be able to say like
Rafi does such and such.,So I wanna split out and
get their first name.,So I can do that using the Data column.,I can do text to columns, and I'm gonna say that these are delimited, via a space.,So there's a space, that breaks up the
different parts of the name.,Next, finish, there we go.,And I've got my first names
here and surnames there.,So I'll just update my headings.,The other thing I wanna
do in my report comments,is use pronouns.,I might wanna say Rafi does such and such.,She is a great learner or something.,So I'll put in an extra column, where I'll put in their pronouns.,Okay, so I've typed all those in.,Let me get rid of these extra
columns we don't need anymore.,And now the final ingredient I need,is what the options for
the comments would be.,So I've got them here in another sheet, where I've set it up with
very low to very high, and I've got comments ready to go.,And now I have just use a formula,to make the report comment for me.,What I can do is first say,,the first ingredient for the comment,is going to be the student's first name.,So I'll put equals their first name,,ampersand, and then I'll do a space,,'cause I'll need a space after their name.,And then it'll be their comment
about class participation.,So I'll do a VLOOKUP.,I will look up their
class participation grade,,high to medium, low in this table,,which I'll dollar sign,so that it doesn't move around, when I move the reference around.,I want column number two, the first column,is the one with the very low
to very high stuff in it.,And I want this to be an exact match.,So I'll put in false.,And let's see how the report
comment is looking so far.,Ayaz participates very well,in class discussions overall, et cetera, because she's got high in that score.,I want another sentence though.,I don't just want one sentence.,S
