How to get started with Bold Subscriptions

hi,welcome to both subscriptions my name is,beth and i'm here to show you around the,app,let's start by covering off a few things,to make sure your shopify store is,prepped and ready for install,first off it's important to make sure,that you'll be using a compatible,payment gateway,the good news is that both subscriptions,work seamlessly with shopify checkout,and all of its supported,payment gateways to help you out we've,included a link in the description of,this video,that will list all of the shopify,checkout requirements,if you're using a non-supported payment,gateway unfortunately you'll need to,change and use one that is compatible,with subscriptions on shopify,you'll also want to make sure you've,completed setting up your shipping and,taxes within shopify,and finally if you wanted to create a,subscription specific product,for example a mystery box or seasonal,subscription,you'll need to first create it in,shopify as well,if you need assistance setting up a,subscription we've also included a link,in the description of this video,in order for subscriptions to work,properly and display the subscription,widget you'll need liquid code to be,installed onto your shopify theme,here let me show you before installing,we recommend creating a duplicate of,your live theme,to do this go to shopify admin online,store,duplicate your current theme to complete,an automatic install,all you need to do is open the app which,will then prompt you step-by-step,instructions,make sure you have the app installed on,the correct theme,if at any point you need extra,assistance please visit the bold,commerce help center,where you will have access to plenty of,articles and live chat support,creating your first subscription is easy,click on subscription group,then create a subscription group first,you're going to create a subscription,name,this name will be internal and it won't,be seen by customers,next choose your subscription product,click select,products and select the product you want,to offer as a subscription,customers can swap out their,subscription products within the same,subscription group,next select subscription frequency,options,here is where you would set the,frequency of your subscriptions,your subscriptionc frequency option can,be set either day,week month or year once you've chosen,your frequency you can give it a name,this name will be storefront for your,customers to see lastly,additional settings if toggled on you,can offer customers a discount for,subscribing,either percentage off or dollar amount,off,if everything looks good don't forget to,click save changes,there you've created a subscription if,you ever need to edit the subscription,simply click on the three dots under,actions,corresponding to the subscription group,then click edit subscription group,in the customer portal section you can,toggle customer permissions,your customer can log into their account,to make changes,pause or resume their subscription,change their next order date,cancel subs

hey this episode we're talking about,breaking news in the Shopify world and,that is memberships and what they,announce Jason's gonna go into it but,Jason's a little bit of a Nostradamus,when it comes to membership stuff and so,we also want to circle back to that and,talk about their journey with it and,then what that would look like so go,ahead and take it away and let us know,what memberships memberships yeah yeah,well yeah if you if you listen to,Shopify reunite they a big virtual event,they did recently then one of the,comments that they made was all about,membership programming work and,basically expanding their functionality,and and sorting out some technical,details to really help memberships,thrive on a Shopify platform and that's,cool you mentioned that I've Nostradamus,haha that's funny,you've mentioned that because I wrote an,article it was three years ago now I,couldn't believe it but here it is if,you searched for memberships with,Shopify or any of the key phrases that,are similar you know how to do a,membership on Shopify or whatever my,article is is right below Shopify which,is pretty cool and so yeah here it is I,wrote it in May of 2017 and I've updated,I think twice since then but I'm here it,is it's sort of our journey with setting,up our sewing with cinnamon membership,program and we've we've got about a,thousand people in that program now and,it's pretty good you know long-form blog,article but one of the sections which is,kind of funny is features we need to add,and I say right into it,note too bold commerce and or Shopify,this works but could be much better in,particular we need the following,functionality ASAP well three years,later and it was kind of fun,to hear them announce that they're,working on these things and it's really,cool now whether they ever saw this,article I don't know but I would think,that they would have because it does,rank for this key phrase just below in,their own work but it's so if they did,read this and if nothing else I hope,fully spoke for a lot of e-commerce,others who are trying to do membership,programming on on Shopify so it's kind,of fun and specifically you know some of,the functionality just to point out a,few of the details the problem with,running a membership program on Shopify,right now is you can't it's not a,product that you can upsell or promote,like other products that you would just,add to your store you have to use an app,like bold commerce is the you know bold,product sorry,bold memberships is the app we use and,but it treats it just like a weird,one-off thing where that you have to,transact through their system and it,doesn't go through the shopping cart in,Shopify like a normal product so you,can't upsell it so I can't you know,can't sell something for five bucks and,then say hey would you like to join the,membership program in the upsell process,which is how you make money right and,Shopify and they just have not had that,beat and we talked to bold people about,it we have an a

hey guys so today we're talking about,another Shopify app and this one is a,real cool moneymaker for anyone that,wants to not just sell an individual,product but create some sort of,membership plan and in this case it,could be anything it could be for us it,could be different web master packages,we're actually showing you a video of a,weight loss company that's based out of,Maryland that does have a Shopify store,which has been kind of interesting,because they're a brick-and-mortar but,we actually turned on this new,capability with Shopify and they're,getting products from everywhere so not,just Maryland they've actually now,increased their reach without having to,have people come in the door at their,location which is near the National,Harbor so interestingly enough yeah you,don't have to be selling only online,because I have a Shopify store right you,can be a brick-and-mortar company and,still have a shop on my store and,finally it's big money which is what we,did here which is really kind of cool so,to do that what we did is we actually,created different membership plans some,will allow you to go to the actual,location some are strictly just online,help for losing weight and all that kind,of stuff so what we have is there,essential I preferred or signature this,has all been done through the bold,membership app so none of its hard-coded,really easy to configure and you'll have,kind of a table here showing the,different benefits of each membership so,to set this up really kind of cool,you're going to install the app it's the,recurring memberships at Seibold and,once you have it installed you can,create a new plan you can see your,existing memberships you can set up,email settings and you can actually get,payments and all right in here so we're,first going to kind of just set up,general setting just to kind of show you,guys exactly how this works any payments,that come in,through memberships app does need to be,connected to a Skype account so you can,actually get that money in so you'll,connect your Skype account here you can,set up a grace period to accept new,billing which makes sense so you have,your kind of ten days into the month and,use phony bill on the 15th go ahead and,set yourself up on a five-day grace,period and then you can do a 30-day,billing reminder frequencies to let,people know that they're about to be,charged all of it's all automated so you,know again just it takes a lot of,headache out you don't even have to,worry about building people it's an,automated process you'll then throw in,the link where this will live in this,case it's going to be this page right,here the membership plans page and once,you have that in place you can then go,into like email settings and see all the,different type of email types and edit,or test right here so if a failure,happened where a credit card was,declined or an update to credit card,needs to happen here is how that email,looks and again you can change out the,content here and you know kind of
