ACF Better Search Plugin - Search Your Custom Meta Fields for Free

welcome to this short series on super, useful tools to expand what you can do,with acf or,advanced custom fields as some of these,do require acf pro so please check, before installing if you're using the, free version of acf to avoid any form of,confusion and frustration, now if you're interested in being, notified as soon as i add new videos on,acf and other topics,be sure to hit that subscribe button and, smash the bell icon below, okay so this first video is all about, making the built-in,wordpress search function work with acf, meta fields, unfortunately straight out of the box, wordpress only searches the standard, wordpress fields,so feels like title description those, kinds of things, and this is a problem when you want to,include your own custom acf, meta fields into any site you may be,working on but don't worry though,i've got a treat in store for you today, with a super useful and better, free plugin called acf better search so,let me give you a quick demonstration of,how to use it and reasons why,you may want to use this to power up the, normal wordpress search, and in some cases where it may not prove,to be,the best solution now instead of a,really, simple demonstration page i really got,two pages to this, there's the page that has the post on it,with the search section at the top and, that's what you can see, here and this is just gonna display a,range of posts,if you search then you'll be taken over,to the, search results page which is part of an,elementor pro template which is designed,in exactly the same way it's all just, using the post widget, and the search widget from elementor now,if we just do a typical search that's,part of a normal wordpress website,it'll search through the relevant data, title description, those kinds of things uh we'll take a,look at that you can see i put the word, banana at the beginning of this one,and we're going to search for banana and, you'll see that when we hit, search we get the result for that, particular one,and this is great this is exactly what, you would expect the problem comes in,when you introduce custom fields through, advanced custom fields so if you add, custom fields in,by default straight out of the box it,will not show results,as part of a normal search in wordpress, those fields are completely ignored, and to show you an example i've created,a custom field that i've simply dropped, the word, red into so if i type in red i do a,search, you'll see it says we can't seem to find, what you're looking for so no results, are being returned, for that because it's in a custom field, let me just hop over into the dashboard, and i'll show you all i've done, this is my field group and if we open, that up,you'll see this is applied to the posts, and you can see we've got a custom field, and inside there just a normal text, field, and if we come and take a look at all,our posts you see if we go into the, first one,i scroll to the bottom you can see, there's my custom field with the word, red in it,so that's all i've done and you have as,many cus

Shopify Metafields - How to use Custom Fields

Shopify Metafields - How to use Custom Fields

hey everyone yang here codingwithyen.com,and today we're going to have a look at,shopify meta fields sometimes also, called custom fields really important, stuff because they basically allow us to,store additional information for, products orders or other important, objects and especially in the context of,online store 2.0 there were some, significant changes you need to know, about so let's have a look, all right so starting this video off, let's quickly talk about why we need, meta fields in the first place and why, they are so important, and i assume you all know how to create, products in shopify you just go to the, admin dashboard or products and when you,add a new one,the editor is pretty straightforward you, just enter a title a description, you can upload a few images set the, price,or add a bit of further information like, the stock keeping unit and so forth and,we could say this editor is quite good, because it works with most products and,i mean that's what it's designed for but, there are also certain instances where, you want to display additional details,in this example it could be the, headphones sensitivity the charging, current the voltage the battery type and,so forth and then you wouldn't find, suitable input fields here or let me,also give another example,if someone was in the food industry or,maybe selling supplements they would, want to enter nutrition values like, calories sugar the different vitamins, and then you wouldn't find suitable, input fields in here as well, and then you could create meta fields to,store that additional information so,that's what they are mainly used for, okay now in the past the only way to,create meta fields though was by using, apps or some hacky workarounds and now, shopify actually released a native, feature that also integrates very well, with the new theme architecture that we,talked about in my last video and that's,what i want to show you today, okay so first i want to show you some of,the new customizer features and as you,can see i currently have the dawn theme, installed a theme built on the 2.0,architecture that's very important and, then let's just visit the customizer, and bring up one of the product pages,so i have this collection right here, with three different headphones uh let's,just bring up the first one,and now i want to add a bit of the meta, information or additional information, that i just mentioned something like, sensitivity, voltage and charging current, and then we could create,a new block element right here, and let's use one of these collapsible, tabs, down here, and then we could just name that details, and paste some of the details right here,i already have them in my clipboard,so sensitivity 110 decibels voltage and, recharging current, let's give it a save for now, okay now we can find these values on the, front end so sensitivity voltage and, recharging current and the only problem,is that these values are now hard coded,or let's say constant across all the, product pages, let me even show you that,so,here we have

Advanced Custom Fields 6 - What's New & What's Changed?

Advanced Custom Fields 6 - What's New & What's Changed?

recently ACF and ACF Pro have had a bit,of a checkered past being kind of pushed, around to various different companies, well WP engine bought it recently and, this is their first major update being, the version 6. it's not yet released, this is just a b temp we're going to,take a quick look at some of the changes, now quick disclaimer these are only, really cosmetic changes there are some, little tweaks for enhancements but most,of it is back-end updates to make, changes to bring it in line and make it,a little bit more modern and fresh, compared to what it has been in the past,so let's take a quick look first of all,at the interface itself and then we can, take a quick look at some of the changes,I'll link to the article about the, actual beta and all the information, about what's been included in it but, let's take a quick look at that, dashboard update,so once you've installed it and you log,in and you go into your custom fields in,your field Group you'll see it looks a,little different we've got a banner, across the top then we've got the main, area we start creating our field Group,so once you get into things that's when, you're starting to see some of the, changes so let's go ahead and click to,add a new field Group and you'd,immediately see things have changed, inside you no longer do we have one long, full screen we know how things broken, down into tabs so all the same, information is here but it's broken down, into more manageable chunks so you can,see General validation presentation and, conditional logic if we scroll down, underneath you can see there's our, location rules presentation and our, group settings so we can customize these,in the same way that we always have done,so visually it does look better for me,personally I'm not the biggest fan of,this tabbed way of working I kind of,like the way you used to have it in one, main screen but this does bring it up to,date and also I'll probably get used to,it as I start working with it more I'm,kind of just used to the way that ACF,has pretty much always looked all the, time that I been using it the other, thing to note is that we have better, accessibility features for people using, keyboards so that's integrated into this, update so again I would recommend, checking out the article over on acf's,website which will give you more, information on that so if you are, interested in accessibility check that, out okay so let's take a quick look now,at the interface you can see we've got,our general where we can go ahead and, choose our different kinds of field type, now I have ACF Pro installed so I have, the full set of features if you're using, the free version some of these won't be,available things like repeated regions, and so on you can see we can choose all,the normal options and leave this as,text for now just for a moment and you,can see we can then come in we can set,our labels we'll just call this location, for example our field name still, automatically populates we can put in a,default value if we want we've got help,on

Advanced Custom Fields Pro Elementor & Relationship Fields

Advanced Custom Fields Pro Elementor & Relationship Fields

now when you're building websites with, tools like advanced custom fields you're,gonna come across times where you need,to build relationships linking databases, together to be able to create a much, more feature-rich page or display, additional content today's video I'm,going to show you how you can do just, that,we're gonna be taking advanced custom, fields using the relationship options, and then when we link in that through, into dynamic content for elemental so we,can visually and easily build all the, template files and create a great, looking and result so if this is,something interests you let me just jump, over the computer now and take you, through and show you exactly what we,could have create and then we're gonna, start building it from scratch so this,is a very basic example of the type of,thing that we're gonna look at creating, and visually it's not the most exciting, but it's going to give you a good, demonstration of how this all works so,if we take a look this is a particular, vehicle if we come back at the vehicle, section you can see we've just got a,listing of the vehicles with some, filters the kind of thing you would, expect to see on a used car kind of site, you know very simple kind of format if,we come in and take a look at the Focus,RS we scroll down to the bottom you can,see all the details were the vehicle, optional extras but we have a set at the, bottle called dealerships now these are, relational entries in other words these, are related they can be linked through,to multiple different vehicles so you, could have 10 different vehicles at,freddys Fords and 10 different vehicles,at Dave's user IDs it's a very easy way,of setting things up and if we come back, out of this and we go and take a look at,a different vehicle we'll try the Mini,Cooper you'll see if we scroll down,we've got the same details again this, time it's only available at Dave's used,Odie's so you can very quickly and, easily link these through use in that, relationship and this is like I say a,very simplistic example but once you, understand the what's kind of code going,on behind the scenes it'll give you a,good idea of the types of things that, you could use this for and how you can,use it to create more complex looking, pages so before we move on and start, actually building things let's take a,quick look at the way things have been, set up now if we come over into the, dashboard of WordPress I've got a couple,of custom post types I've got one for, vehicles which has all my vehicle, details in there and I have one for, dealerships which will hold the, information about the dealership it's,self-sow logo the address things along, those lines vehicle details if we click, and take a look at that we've got a,custom list of meta fields inside there, that are associated with the vehicles, post type so things like your vehicle, price the manufacturer and so on all, pretty simple and straightforward and,the locations it rules set up on there, the post type is equal to vehicle so all, that data is avail

WordPress ACF Tutorial: Get ACF Field Label From its Name

WordPress ACF Tutorial: Get ACF Field Label From its Name

hey everyone this is lewis from wp,academic i had an interesting request, recently regarding advanced custom, fields and i wanted to show a solution, for it because it apparently has some, value for some people also if you stay, tuned to the end i have a fun, announcement, about how you can get free wordpress, help from me that's zero money for, wordpress help so you might want to stay, tuned till the end,uh back to this tutorial so i had, someone ask me how they can get their, advanced custom field label from its, name and to illustrate what i mean i set,up a quick test field group here uh so,there's just a field to keep it simple, the field label is just test field and,the field name, being sample key,so uh if you wanted to grab this uh,field label in your code whether it's a,template file or or what have you,um it's actually pretty easy and i've,seen somebody or some people multiple, people uh come up with sort of bloated, solutions,so some people might call get field, object and, while this works and you can get the, field label, there's a lot of code behind here, and especially when you're considering, site speed it might not be the best, approach, there's also the, downside to this where if somebody were,to deactivate, the plug-in or if there's a botched uh,sort of plug-in update, then the front of your front end of your, site would actually break,so i'm going to show you a bit more of a,foolproof approach,so i'm just going to open up my code, editor, and rather than have you, sitting around, while i type out code i'm just going to,show you the code and then walk you, through it so that you just understand, what's going on,behind the scenes a bit more,so my function name is going to be get,acf label,by name, and so you can see at the top here i'm,just avoiding naming conflicts by,calling function exists,uh that way if for some reason somebody, else has another function called case, get acf label by name, you won't run into any sort of php, errors, next we're going to check to see if,anything was passed in so i'm checking,to see,if it was empty, and then if it is empty we just alert, the developer hey no,field name was specified here, then i'm going to set a default to not, found,so this is a fallback in case anything, were to go wrong with my try catch block, here it still gets returned at the end,so if everything were to go wrong here,we'll still just get not found as,opposed to,some sort of error,so now in our try block we have a simple,uh,sql statement here,so in order to understand this more i'm,actually going to just show you the, database,so let me go ahead and open up the, database here,so,uh,advanced custom fields the plugin stores, its fields as posts,so i have the post table open and we can,see here my acf field label,is test field, and we have the, post title,uh i'm sorry the post excerpt contains,my field name, and if i scroll over to the right here, you'll notice that the post type is,actually just acf field,so back to my code here, what we're doing is we're selecting the, post titl

How to use Shopify Metafields (custom fields)

How to use Shopify Metafields (custom fields)

hey this is young from let's go chop, off' i and in today's video i will give, you a quick overview on Shopify meta, fields also sometimes referred as,Shopify custom fields so that you can, start using them today and let's get, started alright so in my last video we,were working on adding some tabs to the, product page so that you can maybe have, the description in one tab and then some, additional details about the product in,the second tab and maybe some, information on the delivery in the third, tab but the problem with this setup, right now is that all these values are,hard-coded into the theme file and we,can also have a quick look on that so,for example here we have the first tab, with the product description which is,already dynamic so that's great, but here we have the second tab which, contains this HTML table with two rows, and we display the material and the, weight but since these values are,hard-coded into the theme file they will, appear on every single product page, and so we can find them on the product, page for the vanilla candle but also on,other product pages for example for this, pillow and this doesn't make too much, sense right now,so I think this is a good use case to,introduce meta fields to display this, information dynamic and let's see how, this works so the first advice I can, give you when it comes to shop if a meta, fields is to use an app and I mean there, are ways to manage your meta fields, without any app but for the sake of,simplicity and especially if you're,building this for someone else then you, want to provide an easy to use and good, looking interface and so I went to the,Shopify App Store and simply searched, for our meta fields and you can see, there are plenty of apps and they come, with different pricing but also with, different functionality so for example, some have CSV import which might be,interesting if you have hundreds or even, thousands of products but for this video,we will stick to the meta field guru app, because at the point I record this it is,totally free and it comes with a very, intuitive interface and they have some, great features to come in the future,so I already went ahead and installed, that up to the Shopify development store, and now we can have a look inside the,app but let's open it and once this, loads you will be presented with all the, objects that can have meta fields, assigned to them for example we have, collections products and maybe even blog, posts but as we were interested in,product for this video let's open the, product section and right here you will, find a list of all the products, available on your store so let's search, for the vanilla candle, and you can see that it doesn't have any, meta fields right now but let's create a,new meta field and now we have to define,a namespace and the key and with these, two attributes we can later access the, meta fields value so let's give it the, namespace of details because it belongs,to the product details and for the key,we can use material and then we have the, value type

Getting started with Shopify Metafields

Getting started with Shopify Metafields

foreign, what's up YouTube Welcome Back to,another edition of coding with Robbie my,name is Robbie and in this video we're,going to be covering Shopify meta Fields,so uh before we get started make sure to,like subscribe leave a comment let me,know you're there and uh yeah you're,probably wondering Robbie what's a meta, field well it is basically a place to,store additional data in Shopify so you,can add a meta field to products, collections your shop pretty much any, object in Shopify you can add a meta, fuel to and it's a little bit of a,hidden feature because if you're in your, admin dashboard there is no way to add a,meta field through this dashboard it can, only be done through the API so you have,to depend on an app to do this but, there's some really good apps out there, and it's uh not difficult at all and uh,yeah so what is this good for let me,kind of paint a scenario for you so say,we have a product page like this and, down here we have a specifications area, and really if you go to the product um,editor page, really the only place you get the store, data, sorry it's just taking a second to load, extremely long time to load that's weird,I just kind of ruined my whole segment, come on,what the Shopify, all right there we go they're really the, only place you get to uh store data is,the title description and media fields, and then there's some price and stuff, but you know there's really no place to,add specification data so you're,probably thinking oh we got settings why, don't you just use,um section settings so I kind of set, that up to show you the issue with that,so let's say we're on products I got my,default product and I got settings for,it right here but this is just for the, default product so say I have 20,products for every single one I'm gonna, have to uh create a new template and, let's call this one a leather jacket, and let's say hey the leather jacket, maybe it's you know,54 and 32 and we save it and that's,going to create an additional template, file on our theme and then we have to go,Within, products and we have to find the leather, jacket or really any product we want to,use it on,Shopify is really slow today and then I,gotta go hey I don't want to use the, default template I want to use that new,one I created and this is just going to,create a ton of bloat within your theme, you're going to end up with hundreds of,template files and it's just really a,bad way to do it so before we go any, further I'm just going to delete that, new template we created so let's go to,online store and just go to your theme, and go to edit code, and then find the newly created uh,product template mine's right here I'm,just going to trash it,there we go so in order to add meta, fields to your store you're going to,have to download an app if you just, search for meta fields on the App Store, there's a bunch of different ones and by,far the best app is meta Fields Guru so,I'd highly recommend this app you just, come here and add app and once you do,add it to your store you get to

WordPress Advanced Custom Fields for Beginners - Part One

WordPress Advanced Custom Fields for Beginners - Part One

hey everyone and welcome to my advanced, custom fields tutorial for wordpress if,you're not familiar with what advanced, custom fields or ACF is then you've been, missing out WordPress as great and, popular as it is as a content management, system has never focused on building a,simple system for custom fields and, that's where ACF has filled in the gap,ACF is in my opinion one of the most, important plugins you can use as a,developer in WordPress it removes the, complexity of adding custom field, functionality into your WordPress theme,so if you've ever tried creating the, functionality of custom fields directly, into a plug-in or theme you would know, that it is very time consuming,ACF provides you with all of the, functionality required for custom fields,to display on the admin panel and a,simple API to display it on the front, end of your website using PHP so what a,custom fields well put simply they allow, you to add custom data into your,WordPress website that data is then, stored in the database so you can, display it anywhere you want you can, truly build some very customized, websites very easily with ACF if you're,a web developer and you want to provide, simple fields for your clients to update, their website then ACF is perfect for,you there are two versions of ACF,there's a free version and a premium, version and in this series I will be,using the premium pro version however, you can follow along with the free, version and if the software helps you,our dekker definitely recommend, purchasing it each video in the series, will cover a different field type in ACF,and we'll show you how to implement it,as well as different ways it can be used,so with that being said let's get, started as you can see I have a very, basic WordPress theme installed to,ensure that this tutorial is simple for,you to understand and if you'd like to,use this theme you can just download it,in the description below this video I,created it just for this purpose, now if we go into the WordPress, installation you'll notice I've just, created some basic pages they're all, blank and obviously I have advanced,Fields Pro installed another plugin that,I would recommend downloading would be,the classic editor and this just takes, away Gutenberg the new editor in,WordPress to simplify the the pages so,that you're not using that new interface, you can use the new interface if you, want but I'm just more comfortable with, the classic editor so just install that, and once it's installed activate it so,we'll just activate the classic editor, and as you can see because we have, advanced custom fields Pro already, installed custom fields is down here you, don't need the pro one you can always go,to plugins add new and look for advanced, custom fields and you can use the free, version there are some differences, between the free and the pro but if,there is this thing that I'm showing you, that requires a pro version I will let,you know okay so let's get started now,if we look at the pages on our website,we have home about us
